Multiple people in the last two days have proposed Goblin Emperor/Murderbot crossover fic, which is a fascinating conclusion to jump to, but I would like to propose the setup to this fic:
Murderbot is contracted to a service that results in its killing a couple of humans. Its contract ends, and it is immediately contracted to guard investigator Thara Celehar and ensure that the murderer does not harm him while he investigates.
Celehar is absolutely working himself into the ground. Murderbot is 100% calling this one in. Following Celehar around providing no assistance whatsoever.
Celehar: The corpses said they did not see their attacker, but there was evidence the attacker was very fast Murderbot: Curious.
Eventually Celehar works round to uncovering the truth, which Murderbot does nothing to hide from him, because it is a tool and ultimately the people to blame are the ones who contracted it so what does it care.
Celehar: Why didn't you SAY you did it at ANY POINT in the last TWO WEEKS? Murderbot: You didn't ask. Also it gave me time to catch up on my media.
It was hired to make sure the murderer does not try to harm the investigator, and it is achieving that mission.
#the goblin emperor#murderbot#hmm do I put this in the tag? ehh I suppose for organizational purposes#fic request#the grand denouement:#Celehar: so if you're just a tool who hired you?#Murderbot: I am not contractually allowed to say#Celehar: What information are you allowed to give me? - What USEFUL information to this case I mean#Murderbot: I could tell you where the records are stored#Celehar: Where are the records stored?#Murderbot: Contract history is kept in this repository! It's public access.#and so Thara Celehar learns the fundamental philosophy of computer programming#and Murderbot pushes play on Sanctuary Moon

(screenshot b/c apparently I can't put video files in reblogs)
This reminds me of a real movie I've heard of, called America: The Motion Picture. It's a comedy satirizing overly patriotic retellings of American history, particularly the American Revolution.
I heard about it from this meme I snagged from r/196 before the Reddit blackout (sorry I can't credit anyone for the edit, I didn't save that info and I'm not going back to Reddit):
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I want to so bad.

I finished Blood Communion and I'm fine this is fine everything is fine I am so normal about these books and Lestat and Louis nothing to see here nope I'm perfectly normal
Excuse me while I take 5 to 10 business months to recover. Oh, I already know I will be rereading these books over and over again quite often.
#rapha talks#rapha reads#the vampire chronicles#vc books#anne rice#blood communion#books#now i'm just here waiting to see what rolin jones will do with all of that lore and those myriad of excellent characters#but mostly i'm just sitting here in silence contemplating my emotions and thinking about folklore and how the vc are a sort of folklore#it's as lestat says throughout it all: these books are the repository of the history of vampirekin#and the nexus upon which the court was made possible - and the court is the creation of actual vampire society#aaaaaaaah i need to study these books under literature and folklore prisms so bad

Altered Census Records
Navigating genealogy platforms has its challenges, and recently, I encountered a situation that sparked reflection.
While I appreciate the collaborative nature of free platforms, I've observed instances of users altering historically accurate information.
For example, imagine retrieving a record to use in a citation from a free platform: the 1900 US Federal Census, from Burleson County, Texas, only to discover that someone has inaccurately changed it to Briscoe.
It's essential to recognize that while family names can be misspelled by the enumerator and ages often fudged by our ancestors, place names are critical in tracing our ancestors’ footsteps.
In this case, the alteration is more than just a minor adjustment; it involves distinct locations with no historical connection.
This experience underscores the importance of being vigilant in our contributions and to encourage the prioritization of accuracy when sharing information.
In such situations, it becomes crucial to advocate for the use of accurate primary sources and official records from the repository that maintains the integrity of our family histories.
By sharing specific examples, like the unfortunate alteration from Burleson to Briscoe County, one can understand the challenges faced by genealogists and family historians.

I don't like wading into Ao3 debates, but I want to give my professional opinion on Ao3 with regard to archives vs. libraries.
I am a professional librarian (MSLS) and I have worked in both archives and public libraries and a lot of the confusion and concern I see surrounding Ao3 is a fundamental misunderstanding of How Archives Work.
An archive is a collection related to a subject. That subject is often a person but sometimes a field or concept or project. And the purpose of an archive is to keep everything. And I mean everything. I was going to say "short of biohazards" but since I know there's a sealed R. Crumb Devil Gal chocolate bar in the UNC Chapel Hill archives, we really do mean everything.
When a collection of materials--which are usually unique and original and can be photos, manuscripts, letters, recordings (audio and/or visual), notes and notebooks, objects, published books, whatever--on and/or from the subject arrive at the archive, they are examined, preserved for longevity, accessioned and cataloged (added to the archive's records), and added to the archive. You measure collections in linear feet. As in, once it's all preserved and boxed and secure, you note how many feet of shelf space it takes up. And some of y'all on Ao3 have a lot of linear feet to your name (and I'm proud of you).
This is an archive: it is designed to preserve the original materials related to a subject. That is its purpose. Archives are how we have the original scroll manuscript of On the Road, for example, or the Lomax recordings of American folksongs, or Tijuana Bibles, or James Joyce's loveletters to Nora.
Now you, a member of the public, can access some archives. Some are easier to access than others. The one I worked in was open to the public; good luck getting into the British Archives without a good reason.
So now apply this to Ao3--which is an archive both in name and in purpose. It is intended to preserve fan-created content long term. And this means everything, whether you personally like the materials or not. It is a repository for as much as possible.
And the "whether you personally like the materials or not" is important, hence why I mentioned Jim's loveletters and Tijuana Bibles in particular. (RIP Jim, you would have loved pegging.)
If it's made by fans and it exists, we should keep it to document the history and progression of fandom. That is the point. We have lost enough materials related to the subject of fans of media and we don't need to lose any more.
The fact of the matter is that Ao3 is only one facet of the OTW, which preserves other fan-related materials (convention booklets and zines, for example). Somehow Ao3, an archive on the subject of fanfiction, has been divorced from the rest of the project, mostly by way of "purity culture" and panic over "dangerous" fiction.
The fact that you can go through an archive and find interesting information is the other side of archives. No, they shouldn't be like the banker's box of old letters stuffed in my closet. Yes, they should be organized and as accessible as is appropriate for the state of the materials.
It's really, really cool to find stuff in an archive, I'm not even going to lie. I have done it before and I will do it again. And yet there are other items in an archive that I might not want or need or be interested in at all--but they're still there. That's the cataloging and accessioning: to keep up with what's there, to stay "on topic" with collecting, and to be able to find things in that archive. Bless the tag wranglers who are doing the cataloging at Ao3.
The pearl clutching seems to come from 1. the creation of "dangerous" fanworks and 2. public access to those "dangerous" fanworks. These are issues of "purity culture" and opinions on censorship and should not involve Ao3.
Ao3, under the umbrella of the OTW, is a documentation and preservation project first and foremost.

Know I am a broken record with this but the widespread use of AI answers in search results along with AI generated SEO spam is one of the biggest threats to a human knowledge repository in history.
"AI" (actually language learning models) are designed to mimick human language so it "looks" correct but they have essentially no ability to fact check or think critically. They don't live in the real world with us they're algorithms hanging out in Plato's Cave.
The hype machine surrounding them paired with the cultural tendency to assume that computers are infallible and neutral has caused everyone to act like they're fact calculators. They are not, they're automated bullshitters trying to spit out their best approximation of what they assume you're expecting as an answer not what the answer actually is. They're less like a fact calculator, and more like a fact daydreaming kid in math class blurting out the first answer they think of.

🚨Exciting news! More than 6,000 3D scans of non-human primate skeletons collected over the last decade are now available for research worldwide—providing a valuable resource to scientists in the fields of biology, biological anthropology, evolutionary science, and conservation. This multi-institution effort was led by Museum scientists Sergio Almécija, a senior research scientist in the Museum’s Division of Anthropology, Nancy Simmons, curator and chair of the Museum’s Mammalogy Department, and Ashley Hammond, curator and chair of the Museum’s Division of Anthropology.
Now available on the National Science Foundation-funded repository MorphoSource, the dataset includes scans of nearly 400 individual specimens—ranging from great apes to Eurasian and South American monkeys. The physical specimens that were digitized as part of this effort are housed in collections at the Museum, Stony Brook University in New York, the National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C., the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and the Royal Museum for Central Africa (Belgium).

. Reverse:1999 Resource Guide
These are links to some of the archives, lorecrafters and guidemakers that I follow and regard highly for their expertise, dedication, and contributions to the community. Making this list is also for my convenience.
If you know other sources, please share them! I will edit the post and add them here. Maybe one day I will also contribute to transcripts on a separate blog. We don't have enough of such precious records for a heavily lore and story-based game! Feel free to share your lorecrafting website/blog/channel too!
Archives
Websites/Blogsites
Huiji (CN) - CN Fanwiki, written in CN, with consistent updates. Really goated. Gamekee (CN) - Another CN Fanwiki, also written in CN. Some pages may not be updated. Arcanist Sanctum (Global) - That's us! R1999 Logs (Global) - Has some main, event and anecdote story transcripts. Reverse: 1999 Wiki (Global) - EN Fanwiki. They may be behind on working through some profiles, records and transcripts. UTTU Merui (Global and CN) - The website is also WIP. But it is shaping to contain news (including EN translations for CN updates), character profiles, story transcripts, music list, timeline, and I believe recorded CGs too.
Repositories
Myssal's Assets Repository (CN) - In-game assets. It has everything. Myssal just that goated. reverse 1999 png (CN) - PNGs/cutouts telegram. Russian language but you can use character tags by clicking on pinned message. They accept requests, but you probably will have to ask them in Russian. Their cutouts can be accessed and downloaded by going through post comments. Posts with arrows. reverserenders (Global) - official art renders tumblr blog. They accept requests!
Documents
Abyss_Idiot's links (Global) - Transcripts, archives and general lore. Actually lots of records done by several Discord members. May not be updated. As of making this list, I haven't seen anything from 2.0 onwards.
Youtube
八咫烏_Merui (CN & Global) - Event and main story playthroughs without commentary Reverse: 1999 Timekeeper (Global) - They have everything recorded. And I mean everything. Reverse 1999 Archive (Global) - On hiatus (?), they pretty much covered event and main stories up to Notes on Shuori.
Lorecrafting & Story Analysis
Youtube
Apeironite - Pretty chill format. Interesting in-depth analyses. As of now, I don't know any other YT content creator who tackles on game lore as much as he has. FructoseTolerant - While there have yet many Reverse:1999 character analysis content in her channel, once she does post one, it's really good. I recommend watching and listening to her thoughts!
Guidemakers
Websites/Blogsites
Prydwen (CN & Global) - Tierlists, psychube recs and character guides Gnomon (Global) - I am in-love with this website tbh. Has all character information, including sprites! Effect descriptions, material sources and descriptions, resonance build (up to R15), psychube recs, team recs, and very easy to follow guide on how to play each character + rotations! Also has information on series of dusks artefacts and mechanics, reveries in the rain guides, and tips for mane's bulletin! GAAAAAHHH!
Documents
Discord Community Tierlist (CN) - Tierlists, calculators, builds. Likely where most of the global theorycrafting started. bluforest's Scuffed Page for Recommended Resonance Layouts (CN) - Also has resonance codes! Spiritzhl's Unit Build Guide (CN) - Psychubes, resonance, portrays, reveries and euphoria info, critter rehabilitation guide. Arcalive Reverse 1999 (outdated) - Written in KR. Resonance and psychube recommendations, calculators.
Youtube
Jakazin (CN & Global) - Comprehensive character guides Devibul (CN) - Puzzle guides, character showcases Destroth (Global) - Comprehensive character guides, showcases
Useful Tools
Kornblume (CN & Global) - Character planning and summoning history Closure++ (CN) - Planning and calculations, and written in CN. Here's MaTeIriA's guide to using it if you can't understand CN like me. It does have a built-in EN language option but it doesn't work for me. I don't know if it works for you. Depending on your device, you may also have to zoom out to see the entire page. Timekeeper (Global) - Summon tracking

I finished coding my Rogue Trader character sheet template! It's now open sourced on GitHub 🤖
☆ Features
Display your character's stats in (almost) the same way as you've seen in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader CRPG
Multiple sections for character building:
Summary: Character origin info, alignment level, history, and biography.
Features: Show off your build by listing abilities & talents that your character has gained throughout the course of the game.
Inventory: Your Rogue Trader's equipment, armour, etc. goes here.
Relations: Detail the relationship of your Rogue Trader and their retinue members.
Gallery: Place to show off your fanart, commissioned art, fanfics, playlist. Anything goes!
Cool floating servo skulls (only visible in certain screen sizes).
Responsive. Not horrible to look at even in small screens.
☆ Requirements
You would need a static site hosting service for this to work. I recommend Neocities or GitHub pages. Both are free.
Some experience with using npm.
Some experience with basic HTML and JS object/JSON is recommended.
I really wish that it's easier to use and set up, but it's just not possible due to the tech stack I chose initially... I did write a beginner's tutorial on the repository's wiki, but I don't know if it makes sense to normal people who do not code... If you have any questions, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
Tech stack: SvelteKit, SCSS, TypeScript
Bonus:
Name too long? No problem :)
#link to the github repo is in the source!#I made a draft of this post then posted this on Reddit then forgor about it again rip.#rogue trader#warhammer 40k rogue trader#warhammer 40k#warhammer 40000 rogue trader
