This is a bowl of what is left after I make a jug of juice, and today while carrying this to our compost bin, it made me cry.

No, it wasn't due to the smell, but the feeling of what it represents. This bowl represents God's hand in our life. From the Earth we gather the vegetables, fruits and herbs which I use for juicing. We chose to turn to juicing, because of the health benefits. Once in the form of juice, these fruits, vegetables and herbs become a natural supplement which helps to heal and comfort our bodies. I then take the bowl of scraps to our compost bin, where it is used as food for earthworms which in turn break it down to a soil-like substance which we then use to put in our gardens, around trees etc which begin the process over again by giving us food.

God is so good!!

I’ve been reading a lot of quotes from Susan Anulhawa on Goodreads. She talks a lot about the Palestinian connection to the earth. About how centuries of farming led to huge oranges and watermelons. How they work the ground, and when they die, they return back to the motherland Palestine. Her words are gorgeous and inspiring, and I highly suggest you go read them right now. 

i also keep thinking about all the carefully tended gardens that have been razed to the ground. between airstrikes and bulldozers. i keep thinking about the intention and care that went into the growing. it’s a kind of love. the hands in the soil. the sunlight, water, and time. i think about the closed borders. the denial of aid. the salting of the earth. the absolute refusal of any single, minuscule thing that could bring or sustain life.
