Some news about Bob's new project 'The family next door'
Based on New York Times bestselling Australian author Sally Hepworth’s novel "The family next door" and it stars- other than Bob Morley- Teresea Palmer, Bella Heathcote, Catherine McClements, Ming Zhu Hii, Jane Harber (Who was in Limbo), Daniel Henshall, etc.
Six part series directed by Emma Freeman, who directed Bob in season 1 of Love me.
It's a drama and mystery that is also an authentic and funny story about suburban life, love and motherhood. It will air 2025 on ABC iview and ABC TV.
The Family Next Door is the story of a stranger who arrives in a quiet Victorian beachside cul-de-sac, where mysterious occurances soon lead to a crime she suspects has been committed by one of four neighbouring families.
The book of the same name was originally released in February 2018. The full synopsis is as follows:
The small suburb of Pleasant Court lives up to its name. It’s the kind of place where everyone knows their neighbours, and children play in the street. Isabelle Heatherington doesn’t fit into this picture of family paradise. Husbandless and childless, she soon catches the attention of three Pleasant Court mothers. But Ange, Fran and Essie have their own secrets to hide. Like the reason behind Ange’s compulsion to control every aspect of her life. Or why Fran won’t let her sweet, gentle husband near her new baby. Or why, three years ago, Essie took her daughter to the park – and returned home without her. As their obsession with their new neighbour grows, the secrets of these three women begin to spread – and they’ll soon find out that when you look at something too closely, you see things you never wanted to see.

Edward Helmore at The Guardian:
Senator Chris Van Hollen, who travelled to El Salvador last week to meet Kilmar Ábrego García, the man at the center of a wrongful deportation dispute, said on Sunday that his trip was to support Ábrego García’s right to due process because if that was denied then everyone’s constitutional rights were threatened in the US. The White House has claimed Ábrego García was a member of the MS-13 gang though he has not been charged with any gang related crimes and the supreme court has ordered his return to the US be facilitated. But in an interview with ABC’s This Week, Van Hollen, a Maryland senator, stressed that the government had presented no evidence linking Ábrego García to MS-13 in federal court. “Mr President,” the senator said, “take your facts to court, don’t put everything out on social media.”
Speaking on CNN’s State of the Union, Van Hollen said Trump’s “argument that you can’t fight gang violence and uphold people’s constitutional rights at the same time. That’s a very dangerous view. If we deny the constitutional rights of this one man, it threatens the constitutional rights of everyone in America.” [...]
“I’m for whatever gives him his due process rights,” Van Hollen told the outlet. “An immigration judge in 2019 said he should not be deported to El Salvador because that would put his life at risk from gang members like MS-13. “The Trump administration did not appeal that immigration judge’s order to keep him in the United States. He is here legally now, has a work permit, is a sheet metal worker, has a family, and three kids,” he said.
“I am fine with whatever result happens as long as he is given his due process rights under the constitution,” Van Hollen added. The administration has said Ábrego García’s deportation was an “administrative error” and the supreme court has ordered that the government “facilitate” his return, setting up a contentious debate of what that means in practical terms. As Van Hollen made the rounds of political shows on Sunday, he expanded on the theme of a constitutional crisis. On NBC’s Meet the Press he was asked if the US was in constitutional crisis with the Trump administration.
“Oh, yes, we are. They are very much flouting the courts as we speak. As the courts have said, facilitating his return means something more than doing nothing, and they are doing nothing. Yes, they’re absolutely in violation of the court’s orders as we speak,” he said. “My whole point here is that if you deprive one man of his constitutional rights, you threaten the constitutional rights of everybody,” Van Hollen said later to Fox News Sunday host, Shannon Bream. “I would hope that all of us would understand that principle – you’re a lawyer. I’m not vouching for the individual, I’m vouching for his rights.” On ABC’s This Week, Van Hollen was asked if he had walked into a trap when García was brought to his hotel for an hour-long meeting and the pair were pictured with margaritas. The senator said the drinks were placed there by a government official for the photos, and not touched, and added that the trip wasn’t a trap because his purpose had been to meet with García so he could “tell his wife and family he was okay”. “That was my goal. And I achieved that goal,” he said. But he added that “the Salvadorian authorities tried to deceive people. They tried to make it look like he was in paradise. They actually wanted to have the meeting by the hotel pool originally.”
Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) went on all the Sunday shows to state that the trip to El Salvador was to support due process rights of Kilmar Ábrego García and those in similar situations.

TV Guide - January 23 - 29, 1965
Kevin Joseph Aloysius “Chuck” Connors (April 10, 1921 – November 10, 1992) Film and television actor, writer, and professional basketball and baseball player. He is one of only 13 athletes in the history of American professional sports to have played both Major League Baseball (Brooklyn Dodgers 1949, Chicago Cubs, 1951) and in the National Basketball Association (Boston Celtics 1947–48). With a 40-year film and television career, he is best known for his five-year role as Lucas McCain in the highly rated ABC series The Rifleman 1958–63).
Connors had a rare comedic role in a 1955 episode (“Flight to the North”) of Adventures of Superman. He portrayed Sylvester J. Superman, a lanky rustic yokel who shared the same name as the title character of the series.
Connors was cast as Lou Brissie, a former professional baseball player wounded during World War II, in the 1956 episode “The Comeback” of the religion anthology series Crossroads. Don DeFore portrayed the Reverend C. E. “Stoney” Jackson, who offered the spiritual insight to assist Brissie’s recovery so that he could return to the game. Grant Withers was cast as Coach Whitey Martin; Crossroads regular Robert Carson also played a coach in this episode. Edd Byrnes, Rhys Williams, and Robert Fuller played former soldiers. X Brands is cast as a baseball player.
He also became a lovable television character actor, guest-starring in dozens of shows. His guest-starring debut was on an episode of NBC’s Dear Phoebe. He played in two episodes, one as the bandit Sam Bass, on Dale Robertson’s NBC western Tales of Wells Fargo.
Other television appearances were on Hey, Jeannie!, The Loretta Young Show, Schlitz Playhouse, Screen Directors Playhouse, Four Star Playhouse, Matinee Theatre, Cavalcade of America, Gunsmoke, The Gale Storm Show, The West Point Story, The Millionaire, General Electric Theater hosted by Ronald Reagan, Wagon Train, The Restless Gun with John Payne, Murder, She Wrote, Date with the Angels with Betty White, The DuPont Show with June Allyson, The Virginian, Night Gallery hosted by Rod Serling, and Here’s Lucy with Lucille Ball.
As Connors was strongly typecast for playing the firearmed rancher-turned-single-father, he then starred in several short-lived series, including: ABC’s Arrest and Trial (1963–1964), an early forerunner of Law and Order featuring two young actors Ben Gazzara and Don Galloway, NBC’s post-Civil War-era series Branded (1965–1966) and the 1967–1968 ABC series Cowboy in Africa, alongside British actor Ronald Howard and Tom Nardini. Connors guest-starred in a last-season episode of Night Gallery titled “The Ring With the Red Velvet Ropes”. In 1973 and 1974 he hosted a television series called Thrill Seekers.
In 1983, Connors joined Sam Elliott, Cybill Shepherd, Ken Curtis and Noah Beery, Jr. in the short-lived NBC series The Yellow Rose, about a modern Texas ranching family. In 1985, he guest-starred as “King Powers” in the ABC TV series Spenser: For Hire, starring Robert Urich. In 1987, he co-starred in the Fox series Werewolf, as drifter Janos Skorzeny. In 1988, he guest-starred as “Gideon” in the TV series Paradise, starring Lee Horsley. (Wikipedia)

The BBC and Red Planet Pictures have revealed that Don Gilet (Sherwood, EastEnders, The Beekeeper, Shetland) will be the new lead detective in ratings-smash crime drama Death in Paradise.
Making his debut in a feature-length Christmas special later this year, before a brand-new series in 2025, Gilet will play Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson - who arrives on the idyllic island of Saint Marie from London, and isn’t overly pleased with his new surroundings…
Gilet has recently begun filming in Guadeloupe, alongside returning Death in Paradise regulars Don Warrington, Shantol Jackson, Ginny Holder, Élizabeth Bourgine and Danny John-Jules.
Don Gilet says: “Being offered the new lead role in Death in Paradise feels like a deeply loved and incredibly precious jewel has been placed in my hands. This is a big show, with a big heart and the love continually grows for it. It is my intention to never lose sight of that and to remain grateful, humbled and dedicated. Even during those testing times when every sinew is screaming at me to run off the set and dive into the sea, swimming pool or an ice-cold beer – whichever happens to be closer at the time!
Tim Key, Executive Producer for Red Planet Pictures, says: “Don is an amazing actor and we’re delighted that he’s joining us as the show enters another exciting new era. We’ve got huge plans for
the new series and beyond, and I can’t wait for the audience to meet Mervin and to see what we’ve got in store...”
Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, says: “We could not be happier to welcome Don to the series. Already known to BBC viewers from the likes of Sherwood, EastEnders, and Doctor Who, he’s long been one of the UK’s most exciting actors. Death in Paradise is in brilliant hands - roll on Christmas!”
Offering the perfect cocktail of sun-soaked escapism, shimmering seas and clear blue skies, the detective drama enters its fourteenth year on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, with its much-loved combination of magnificent murder mysteries and plot twists which leave audiences on the edge of their seats.
BBC Studios, who distribute the series, have now licensed Death in Paradise to over 230 territories across the globe. It was recently announced that following the successful launch of spin-off series Beyond Paradise last year, the Death in Paradise franchise will build on its international success with new Australia-set spin-off series Return to Paradise, airing later this year on the BBC and on ABC in Australia. Death in Paradise is a Red Planet Pictures production for the BBC made with the support of the region of Guadeloupe and internationally distributed by BBC Studios. The feature-length Christmas special and 2025 series will be executive produced by Tim Key and Amy Rodriguez for Red Planet Pictures and Danielle Scott-Haughton for BBC, and series produced by Sue Howells. All series of Death in Paradise are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

On September 16, 1977 season 2 of Wonder Woman began after switching from ABC to CBS and adding to the title "The New Adventures of..." That was not the only change. It is explained that Diana had returned to Paradise Island between seasons. The last season had ended in the World War II era. When Diana Prince/Wonder Woman returned to the world of men this time, it was now 1977. Instead of Nazis she found herself in the cold war world. Lyle Wagner was kept on, but this time playing the son of his season one character. This season also saw yet another actress take over the role of Hippolyta, this time Beatrice Straight. Instead of working for the Air Force, Diana Prince and Steve Trevor "jr" worked for the I.A.D.C. ("The Return of Wonder Woman" TV, Event)

Return to Paradise, the upcoming Death in Paradise spin-off set in Australia, has finished filming.
Former Home and Away actress Anna Samson, who plays the show's lead character DI Mackenzie Clarke, revealed the news on Instagram. Other key cast in the show include Lloyd Griffith (Ted Lasso), Tai Hara (Colin From Accounts), Catherine McClements (Total Control), Celia Ireland (Wentworth), Andrea Demetriades (The Artful Dodger) and Aaron McGrath (Gold Diggers). And Anna posted a picture with some of the cast, saying: "I got to spend the last three months with these three lads. I love them more than I can say. We wrapped our show this week and my heart is broken that they will no longer be contractually obliged to spend time with me."
Return to Paradise, which has been shot around Sydney and the Illawarra coastal region, follows Mackenzie Clarke, a high-ranking officer in the London Metropolitan Police, who's forced to return Down Under after being accused of tampering with evidence.
The makers tease: "Having fled the town six years ago, infamously leaving her ex- fiancée Glenn (Tai Hara) at the altar, Mackenzie is not welcome here.
"But with no other job options, and a unique talent for solving a mystery, no matter how challenging, a reluctant Mack joins the team at Dolphin Cove Police Station. Once a case lands on her desk, she can't rest until she's figured it out, and the killer is in handcuffs. It's that tenacity and work ethic that might just, over time, help Mackenzie win over her new colleagues, and the people of Dolphin Cove."

Return to Paradise is the latest extension to the Death in Paradise universe. Beyond Paradise, which stars Kris Marshall as DI Humphrey Goodman, was the first spin-off and has proved a huge hit. Return to Paradise will be shown on BBC One in late 2024, while it's likely to head to BritBox in the US. It will be screened on ABC in Australia. Meanwhile, Death in Paradise season 14 will air next year.

[RERUN] Wonder Womaaaaaaaan!
youtube
(Thanks to ScreenBlaster13)
Is there a more fitting song to denote star-spangled ass kicking? I mean, even Captain America has a hard time inspiring viewers compared to this!
youtube
(Thanks to FistThingsFirst)
[NOTE: If anyone is interested in the wall of text that was the original review, you may do so here]
If you ask any fan of comics who knows the difference between DC and Marvel (and isn’t a complete misogynous ass-hat) who the “Big Three” are in DC, over 90% will name Wonder Woman as the third (don’t insult my intelligence by pretending to not know who the other two are) However, it took 75 years after Wonder Woman’s debut for her to make her big-screen debut, and there has only been one live-action television series (well, technically two, but since the second series is in the same continuity as the first, everyone calls them the same series)
Before I get started, I need to give a bit of history to those who only know Gal Gadot’s performance…
(Thanks to the Cincinnati Enquirer)
Wonder Woman was created in 1941 by William Moulton Marston (under the pen name Charles Moulton), a psychologist who believed that women would rise up and take charge (and Wonder Woman was going to get the public ready for the matriarchy. It certainly couldn't be any worse that what we've dealt with in the last decade or so)
Like Superman and Batman, Wonder Woman’s origin is pretty much unchanged since her debut, save for a few slight modifications to reflect a changing world:
The Amazons were a civilization of women during the time of the ancient Greek myths (later co-opted by the Romans). In the myth, Heracles (or, as the Romans would call him, Hercules) was tasked with retrieving the Girdle of Strength from Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons. Hippolyta was going to hand it over peacefully, but a miscommunication led the rest of the Amazons to attack and Heracles, thinking betrayal, murdered Hippolyta.
Obviously, the murder didn’t happen in the comics (as Hippolyta is alive and well in the DC continuity), but Heracles’ attack led the Amazons to flee the World of Man and form a new civilization on an island they dubbed Paradise Island (after Wonder Woman’s origin was retold post-Crisis they named the island Themyscira) Whatever the island is named, the Amazons have superior physical traits to mortals (and are obviously unaging, since Hippolyta still rules the Amazons after over 3,000 years)
An indeterminate time after the Amazons relocated, Hippolyta gave birth to a baby girl she named Diana (actually, she was formed of clay and the gods gave it life) Post-Crisis she is imbued with the power of the gods (later still it’s revealed she’s a demigod), but in the 70s she is merely superior to her fellow Amazons physically.
And this is where the series begins.
The series begins during World War II…
…with Wonder Woman (whose Amazon name isn’t revealed; played by Lynda Carter)
…and Major Steve Trevor (played by Carol Burnett Show alum Lyle Waggoner) fight against Nazi spies on the home front. Wonder Woman adopts the persona of Diana Prince, Navy nurse (pictured above with Steve), when not fighting the Third Reich’s agents.
After a short first season, ABC dropped the series, but it was picked up by CBS (renaming the series The New Adventures of Wonder Woman), who continue the continuity by fast forwarding 35 years to “modern” times…
…where Wonder Woman (who finally has been given the name Diana)
…and intelligence operative Steve Trevor (what, what?! oh, it’s Major Trevor’s son...who just so happens to look exactly the same) fight against threats to the US.
Once again, Wonder Woman adopts the Diana Prince persona, inserting herself as an agent alongside Steve.
Much like the comics, the beginning of each “series” is pretty much the same with a few tweaks to reflect changing times, though in the second series Wonder Woman isn’t quite the “babe in the woods” dealing with the World of Man as she was in the first (she returned to Themyscira Paradise Island after the War) Also note that this is the way events more or less unfold in the comics (and if you saw 2017′s Wonder Woman film it should seem somewhat familiar)
Steve Trevor’s plane goes down over Themyscira Paradise Island (In the original series, he’s shot down in a dogfight, while in New Adventures the crew and passengers of Trevor’s jet are incapacitated and the Amazons land it remotely…umm, HOW?! They’re an ancient Greek civilization that should not possess that kind of technology!), where he’s discovered by Diana and nursed back to health.
Hippolyta (who is never named in either series) decides to send an emissary to the World of Man to assist Trevor. Diana volunteers, but Hippolyta refuses. Diana wins the right (by athletic tournament in the original series, but by vote in New Adventures; guess the Amazons felt a second tournament would be a moot point), but is challenged by another Amazon before she can be given leave. The two women settle their challenge in the ancient tradition of Bullets and Bracelets (firearms in an ancient Greek civilization, centuries before gunpowder is inverted? Someone needs to brush up on their history!)
Upon winning the challenge, Diana takes Steve back to the World of Man in her invisible plane (OK, seriously…what part of “ancient Greek civilization” do people not understand?! Not only can Diana pilot a plane (which the ancient Greeks certainly wouldn't have access to), but they have stealth technology (which MODERN technology hadn't developed at that point)?), which is little more than a plane-shaped piece of plexiglass (as I noted in my Superfriends write-up, I fail to see how stealthy an invisible plane is if you can clearly see the pilot and passengers)
Diana comically runs afoul of economics (in the 1940s she finds out you need something called “money” to obtain things, while in the 1970s she finds out that things cost more that they did in her last outing due to something called “inflation”)
Meanwhile, Steve runs afoul of trusting the wrong pretty face, getting overpowered (after showing he might have held his own if there weren’t so many thugs) and captured. Wonder Woman swoops in, handily takes care of the same number of thugs, rescues Steve, and Saves The Day.
Unlike Batman, I did see Wonder Woman first-run, though as a pre-teen. As such, I didn’t fall prey to drooling over Lynda Carter running around in her underwear. I just thought it was awesome seeing Wonder Woman kicking so much butt.
While the series is tongue-in-cheek (it was the 70s; all “adventure” shows were similar in tone), it was nowhere near the level of campy/silly as Batman or Superfriends. I would put it on-par with The Adventures of Superman in terms of tone.
If you would like to watch the series, it's available on Max or behind your favorite paywall.
Once again, let me know if you would like to see any episodes reviewed.
And now, as a bonus, Gal Gadot kicking WWI German ass to the tune of the TV theme…
