Revek the Driver, a short and sweet delivery boy with the unusual ability to talk to animals.

Jules the Baker, a lanky bookworm who doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life.

Tulia the Apprentice Smith, an energetic Iberian girl with a penchant for dreaming big.

Ilaila the Demi-trog, a reserved girl with a burning fury under the surface.

Malachus, son of Tarchus, an ambitious young farmhand with dreams of making a mark on history.

Brutus, son of Tarchus, a simple and straightforward young man with aspirations of helping his father on the farm and not much else.

Neph grew up in a shady, crime-ridden area, but that environment is what inspired him to become a vigilante.

Elior comes from a more technologically advanced society. Muskets have been invented and are currently being refined, and only the wealthy, the army, and nobles have access to current models.

Fenrir spends a lot of time in the Resting Grounds, particularly the Spirit’s Glade. Revek’s nature rubbed off on them a little, and now they’re a bit protective of the ghosts there themself.

Aruna dabbles in pretty much every art form you can imagine. Painting, sculpting, instruments, sketching, dance, you name it.

Tanith was adopted by the God Tamer. She taught them how to fight, and they even learned a thing or two about taming beasts. They also get along great with the animals Tamer keeps around.

Maimu fled from the mantis tribe in the Queen’s Gardens as soon as the Traitor Lord started losing himself to the plague. She fended for herself for some time until joining Neph’s group.

Stratos cut down his own caretaker after they yelled at him for a poor performance in the Colosseum. Stratos has been self-reliant ever since.

Chestnut Rebellion Chapters 4, 5, and 6:

Ch 4: Level Up

Revek’s friends take him on an adventure for his birthday, as is Etruscan tradition. Brutus found a hidden spot in the monster-filled Umbellua forests that he knew would interest his little friend. The party comes to a clearing with a massive and ancient cork oak in the middle, which Revek excitedly goes to climb, only to find a camouflaged porcine monster hiding in its bark.

After a confused back-and-forth, Gort (the aforementioned monster) joins them for a meal to discuss who and what he is, and why these children have invaded his meditation circle. Brutus is enamored with the old pig man, but expresses this silently and stoically.

Revek, as it is his sixteenth birthday, gains his tenth level, choosing to allocate it into a magical class, Sorcer, a naturally attuned class he was born with, unlike most casters who have to dedicate years of study to their craft.

Ch 5: Week’s End

Ilaila is annoyed that Revek chose flashy magic powers over an ability that would have made his pack animal’s daily life easier. She goes out into the woods in the dead of night and spars with some strange magical creatures to blow off some steam. Tulia follows her out to the river and confronts her about hiding her emotions from her friends.

Ch 6: Dies Areos

Revek goes into town during the day for one of the few times he’s allowed to do so: The Festival of Colors. He meets up with his friends to go see a race at the circus and eat some trashy festival food. The party discusses the mistreatment of Durg that Jules witnessed in the town square the previous week, and Malachus has a stupid idea that he takes Tulia aside to discuss. While getting food from a stout vendor, Revek overhears the two youngest friends’ plan. They’re going to steal records from the Roses.

Revek is distracted the rest of the day.
