what if… let’s say… orca eclipse was turned into a human… how badly would he hate it or would he react differently?

Oh, he would loathe it. His spell goes wrong when he kisses the photographer to change them into a siren, and he becomes a human instead. He hates his blunt flippers (feet, they're called feet). He's baffled by how biting cold the very air is and that he stumbles like a newborn reindeer. The only good thing is that he is still taller than the photographer even if he has to lean against them to move his stupid long, lanky legs, also, it's freezing. Y/N gives him half of their Arctic gear so he won't freeze to death on the way back to base.

Eclipse keeps trying to kiss Y/N again to hopefully fix this whole mess and get them both back into the water, but they keep evading his attempts by fretting over his shivering form. He does not enjoy this at all.

Y/N is reeling from this chain of events. Eclipse is still dangerously breathtaking with his black and white markings but his arms and legs now possess the gradient deep red and rust orange of his flukes. He keeps his frilled head of sunset colors. They have no idea how to explain how they found a guy, much less a fishy one, out in the Arctic to Michael and Vanessa, but they're going to try. They will keep him sheltered and warm while figuring out what happened with that kiss.

Humans and Boredom IV | An Arms race has a Finish Line, Right?

Advances in shield technology are rare, but always significant, as they render nearly all weapons systems prior to the new discovery obsolete.

Humans don't really do shields all that much. With how powerful their basic weapons are, any energy shield technology basically didn't do anything worthwhile.

That is, until they got their hands on advances the rest of the Galaxy had made. Particularly deflector shields.

Now, even when supercharged by Human power generators, Human slug weapons still simply go through them, but every energy type weapon is rendered less than useless.

The way deflector shields work is two layered: the first detects and relays the exact characteristics of any known energy type, then the second mimics those but of the opposite polarity. This results in the incoming attack getting harmlessly reflected into space.

Humans plugged one in to a ship that also has a Human quantum computer, which, as all of their computers, are much faster, but are prone to crashes, data loss and corruption, and are just kinds buggy pieces of garbage. But really, really fast garbage. With this speed of computation, the deflector shield becomes an energy mirror. A targetable mirror at that.

Essentially, if you only have energy based weapons and encounter a Human ship with this shield, you can't open fire at them. You will end up attacking yourself. The "stop hitting yourself" protocol, as the Humans have dubbed it. If your shields can withstand your own attacks, you are not in a stalemate - the Human ship has weapons of it's own. Weapons your shields can't endure.

And even if by some miracle they can, every Human vessel has an incredibly powerful plasma weapon - their secondary main thrusters. Run away if a Human ship turns it's back to you but is RCS'ing towards you. You will not survive a plume of raw plasma directly funneled from their miniature star reactor. That's not a thing Human ships can survive. You, in your not-an-abomination-of-all-that-is-sane-engineering space ship, are fucked.

Back to when they first demonstrated what they can do with our deflector shields - they played ping pong with a similar ball of plasma. They did find a limit though - when the energy of the weapon exceeded the energy generators output. As in, that of a miniature star. Then enough of it got through and melted the drone piloted ship.

While we prioritize maintaining good relations with Humanity, we're also looking into reviving the long abandoned teleportation technology route. The combination of Humanity and Earth "vanishing and reappearing", plus unconfirmed rumors from pirate channels that Humans are experimenting with teleporters, make us reevaluate what kind of laws of physics we may have somehow not yet discovered.

One thing Humanity made clear they will not share with us is how they disappeared. Using uncharacteristically strong language with a rarely seen intensity in their tone and gaze. We'll have to figure this out ourselves.

1 - Rayashki Elementary

Big-Eared Monkey and Mr. Crocodile - a reference to Cheburashka and Gena the Crocodile in form of August’s nicknames. The song Vila often sings might be based on The Blue Wagon from the 70s cartoon.

The collage shows not a bayan accordion but another accordion type called “гармонь” (garmon’) in Russian

3 - New Mine

We’re getting more lore about the critters based on Inuit mythology. Kikituks are said to be evolved from shamanic statues into amphibious creatures and preferring mammal meat over fish nowadays. Ijiraks are said to be former people trapped into the boundary between life and death for wandering too far into the wild. Qiqirns are described as malevolent canines that wander aimlessly for eternity (it can be connected to their role in shamanism).

Information about the background character because I've got attached to him: the Rayashki guest arrived here following an Irish merchant ship. He’s a miner from Greenland expedition team with a bushy red beard and bear belly. He has a crude front but is a symphony enthusiast and likes literature - the temporary library helped him to bond with his teammates over literature without feeling weird. Also he has a little daughter. Pushkin’s Ode to Liberty that he read is a historically interesting piece where the author supports a political activist exiled to Siberia (the ode gets Pushkin exiled too but to a more gentle place)

4 - Swimming Pool

The descriptions go in chronological order of mermaid history.

Among the stage descriptions, there are two interesting objects described:

A preserved seabird, seemenly for the migrated critters.

Rayashki Cheese - is said to be made out of milk from northern tundra. The cheese’s wrap design is based on Friendship cheese made by KARAT. The peculiar detail about it is that the only KARAT factory is in Moscow

Rayashki seemly participates in barter with the ships.

Cultural Palace - is a common name for major club-houses

6 - Civic Square

The polar bear statue was made after one of the meetings and now is taken care of as a symbol of the community

Tango has two modes: cannot focus for the life of him or glued to something and cannot leave. This is doubled when he’s little. Impulse and Skizz like to give him tasks to do so he stays entertained such as “go find me the coolest stick you can” or “get to the top of your starter base and back as fast as possible”. He cannot do activities like drawing or puzzles when little, he gets bored and distracted. But set him down with Phineas and Ferb or Loony Toons and he won’t move for hours.

Eclipse could never expect anything so fascinating as a siren to introduce yourself to him while on the ice, but he's not shy in making it known that you are stunning and beautiful. How could he not be allured by your otherworldly vision?

You are pleased, to say the least. You lean closer over the ice and gaze at Eclipse for a moment with your chin in your hand, grinning your shark-like teeth before telling him that he is simply delightful. Come closer, love. You want to see him.

He spends an enchanting time with you, praising you and even touching your wet hair and clawed hands, but the sun is setting and he really should get back to his brothers. He wants to see you again. You laugh sweetly. He is too precious. You simply have to keep him.
