Look at this fat fluffy birdie!
Details are under the cut.
Tumblr media
March 12. I'm sick, so just a bit of stitching. It's 3 strands of acrylic wool and the stitches do NOT look to my standard. :/ Well, I bought this kit to try to stitch with wool, so now I know I dislike it. Might as well try to re-stitch it with the regular embroidery floss and see how it looks.
BTW, I switched the fabric from Aida 14 to Lugana 27. A different color, too, so I don't have to do the French knots.
Tumblr media
March 15. Forgot to take a Pic without any backstitch.
Finished it in 2 days (March 12,March 15). My first Riolis kit and probably my last, at least with "wool" thread. It's unraveling, it tangles, it's uncomfortable to work with, and I didn't like the pattern itself.
It's cute but it's also very meh. (UPD March 16: It's actually quite nice as a finished and hooped result, I just didn't like the process at all.) I wanted to try the wool thread and I did. Not a fan. 3 strands of regular embroidery floss is bad enough but wool? And the way it looks on fabric? Nope.
Oh, and I also did white stitches in 2 strands instead of 1 (and somewhere in 3 strands) because all I could see was the fabric under those stitches. I saw some people switching the fabric to 30-32 count Murano and those people are correct. I have no idea why the kit has Aida 14. Stuff like this works way better on evenweave.

Riolis: Abyssinian Cats stitched by Ok-Jellyfish-5024.
From riolis cross stitch kit. It’s my first time stitching with wool and it feels so good! The extra golden necklace and bell really lighten up the embroidery.

Ok. So. My buizel wants to battle a rioli as the riolu keeps jabbing playfully at her without any real force, despite the buizel trying to ignore the riolu.
She shakes her head and points to the other side of the beach. Putting her arms up in a defense, boxing-like pose. I get in the way and stop her. She shakes her head and tries to get me to move....
She is still healing from the net incident and losing her tails. Yet she doesn't look mad. Just.... Cocky?
OH MY ARC I ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT YOUR BUIZEL!!! I hope she’s doing well! It’s been a while since I’ve heard about her :D
Well, at least it isn’t a scizor she wants to fight this time. If it’s clear that the riolu was doing so playfully, then she should be fine to do a small battle with them. Another indicator that she just want to do friendly battle is that she isn’t angry with the riolu. The “cocky” expression she has on her face would just be excitement for the fight and a want to prove herself, not retaliation against the riolu jabbing her.
I’d say let her! As long as you’re supervising and ready to step in if anything goes too far, she should definitely be ready for this.
Take care, and I hope it goes well for her!!!

One thing I will say about cross stitch is that it's unfortunate for me to find patterns that are only physical.
I understand why this is (it helps shops physical patterns are often sold for more, kits sell for much more, etc), but I find it disappointing, because as somebody with low vision, I can only work from pdfs. I could scan in a physical pattern but the pages/layout turns out oddly and the quality usually suffers. At that point, I'd rather just buy a different pattern.
I will say, however, that some designers will make an exception if I message them and explain the situation. The brand Riolis in particular said they would send me a pdf if I could provide proof of purchase of one of their physical patterns/kits, which is an accomodation I'm genuinely fine with. Like I said, I understand why they don't sell pdfs and I'm willing to pay the price of a physical copy to get one.
It's just one of those things that are unfortunate, and it's a lack of accessability and accomodation that while understandable is still disappointing.
I've had to explain online before too the people with low vision or who are blind can still cross stitch--most legally blind people have some usuable vision, and cross stitch really doesn't take a lot. If you pay attention, a lot is done by feel, since you can drag the needle across the fabric and feel it "catch" on each hole. That's how I do it, at least--which is fine, I'm happy to educate people if they're willing to learn! But it does mean that the community sort of lacks accessability in a lot of ways.

Look at this, I finally finished it! I think this is the biggest cross-stitch I’ve ever done. It did this interesting thing with stitching two threads of different colors at once, which was wild. 10/10, very pretty. Nice thread too.
Kit: Blue Jays, Riolis
Time-lapse of progress pictures under the cut
Behold: a wobbly time-lapse of this cross-stitch project
Music: Summer Chill, Clipchamp

Started doing cross stitch in my spare time for fun and I finally almost finished my first project which is a Riolis kit of foxes (of course) and I decided to use a different color for the backstitch which has left me running out of the color before I'm done. Sure, I will just get more of the color....
Alas, I have discovered this particular brand requires you to directly contact them and they will give the details to another shop for you to buy from cuz they do not give out the color codes due to counterfitting. Plus it is a different Floss material so just matching to a different Floss type will not work. 😭 It is very much a small issue, but I was excited to finish it.
