just imagining when iwaizumi gets ready to go to college in america and suddenly he realizes his name’s going to be flipped. he spends the few weeks before leaving practicing his penmanship and writing “hajime iwaizumi” over and over enough to nearly fill up half of a notebook. takes the entire plane ride reciting it thoroughly in his head like a mantra in an attempt to get it to sound right and hopefully roll easily off his tongue. only for him to be so nervous upon introducing himself for the first time that he stumbles out a choppy “i’m hizumi iwaime” to his roommate and debates dropping out immediately and catching the first flight back to japan. he doesn’t, and his roommate doesn’t poke fun like he really thought he would, which grants him his first friend out of the ordeal. and the new nickname of “hizu” for the rest of his time at uni.
