『 Lunch Squad 』
⇢ outgoing to: @minhyukxrk ; @rkjohnny ; @rkgray ; @rkxkjd & @aronrk
Jeongguk puts the menu down, exhaling a sigh as he leans back into his chair. “What is this eval?! I wanted to join the last one but couldn’t. Now that I actually can they give us this,” the newbie trainee complains, a grumble leaving his lips.
“I don’t mind acting, don’t get me wrong but I have no idea what I’m supposed to do... do we know what kind of probs they’ll give us in general? Can we choose one of the probs provided? I’m just so lost how to even go about this or train for this.” Exhaling another sigh he stretches his arms above his head, leaning further back in his chair.
“Sunbaenims~ help the poor noob, please!”

selling point,
@yuzurk
she could not have been any more enthused if she tried. their last evaluations for the year is something that she knew she would excel at. it was the perfect retribution from last month’s gruelling task and a gift from the heavens above. lord knows she could not quite force herself to do another dance focused evaluation after such a strenuous one.
“here, try this water bottle.” she speaks to her companion, handing out a bland looking bottle with a triumphant smile. “i suppose this is something of a challenge. water is not exactly the most appealing of products to advertise.” picking the most obscure items around it and turning that into a ten to fifteen second commercial is the sort of game she did not know she would enjoy doing. it was a laidback early preparation for this month’s task and one that she can get by any time of the day.
she had only just been recently introduced to the new trainee but she feels already at ease enough to want to work through these practices with her. it was a rarity but after two years in the company, she believes it should be expected of her to be a warm older figure to the new and younger ones. it is a hard task to commit to for someone who barely possesses any inner warmth but at the very least, she ought to try. “let us see if i would be enticed to buy water after this.”

*·— tell me you like me
@rkyngsun
this was her calling; a sign. she knew it. after joining nova, the other trainees were sent to perform at the end of the month. these evaluations were known in the industry, and it was interesting hearing the stories of how many had frozen to death in the hours they were made to perform in bad weather. it made nakyung wonder what they had in store for her once she could join those events.
ever since she was born, the girl was praised for her beauty. during the mgas, she was criticized for being too pretty. now, her very first evaluation is all about looking good on camera. nakyung takes the bottle of water lightly, and then slowly turns around. her hair falls softly over her shoulder and she shows a gentle smile to complement. in her head the song had already started to play before she starts to sing it herself. “라라라라라라라... 날 좋아 한다고…”
her eyes blink as a calculated move before nakyung returns to her usual movements. “see? yongsun is the one in front of her, not some type of camera. “you can transform anything into a successful cf.” the girl says it with confidence as if she’s any bit experienced on the job. that experience is simply limited to recreating famous cfs with her friends and singing along to sad tunes while staring out windows. “now it’s your turn.”

Lights, camera, action!
Exposure is a crucial part of making a group or artist popular, that’s why they often go to variety, music and radio shows during promotions and also try their luck as models and actors. Endorsing products of famous brands is the goal of many and also one of the ways idols and even trainees use not only to make extra money but make their faces known – it’s a good opportunity to be on the commercial breaks of a popular drama or have your face all over the city on billboards and cardboard cutouts.
As a new month dawn upon us, a staff member gathers all trainees in one of the companies’ practice rooms for a surprise visit of model and actress Lee Seonyoung and acting coach Moon Taeri. They share their experiences and some tips before revealing they came for a special lesson and asking trainees to come to the center and do an improvisation exercise with them. Once the guests leave, the same staff returns with some commercial films to show them examples of what they just discussed and inform them that they should keep practicing these clips for the upcoming evaluation that won’t be explained until the day but will be related to the lesson they had.
On December 31st, trainees will return to the same practice room, but this time they will find a professional camera and different props (such as water bottles, make-up, fake fried chicken, phones, etc). Taking turns, they will be randomly handed one of the objects and told to improvise a commercial film to promote it on spot (reference). Trainees have three takes to complete the challenge and all the recorded footage will be watched by everyone, including acting coaches, on the following day so they can evaluate themselves. As fun as it can be, they are instructed to take it seriously and keep it appropriate!
In order to collect +2 POINTS TO DISTRIBUTE AS YOU WISH and +2 DEBUT POINTS, write 250+ words solo or a four-post thread with another trainee involving the preparations for this month’s evaluation. For +3 POINTS IN A RELEVANT SKILL, +2 DEBUT POINTS and +1WK RELEVANT ACHIEVEMENT, write one 300+ words solo about your muse’s cf improvisation. Please tag all your posts with #rkdec19eval and have them up by midnight EST at the end of Tuesday, December 31st. ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀ ˟ 12월 、december evaluations ( cf evaluations , shampoo ad ) _____________________
sua stares at the empty bottle of shampoo in her hand and wonders why she has to advertise such a shitty product when it’s easily one of the cheapest brands on the market. but that’s the job, sometimes - things that she wouldn’t fully endorse in her entire life can sometimes call upon her for a job, especially if she’s really planning on becoming an idol. and just because she’s acting this out here and now doesn’t necessarily mean she’ll be putting her face to this product in the future.
that’s what she takes into this evaluation, and decides to give it her all - if only because she actually enjoys to do things like this, even if in the end the product is not something really up her alley.
( after all, sua was in the commercials for kt’s mobile game and she hasn’t played it since. )
she starts with her back facing the camera to show off her long, dark tresses that fall in perfect waves. while she knows that this would hardly be the look of her hair after using this kind of product over a long period of time, the point of this is the commercial - the point is to sell. her body does the movement, following the beat of a song heard only in her head. she goes for an active, dancer’s approach just so she can whip her hair around and show it off as best as only sua knows how. in the end, she finally shows off the brand of shampoo with a tilt of her head, hair falling almost oddly perfectly over her shoulders after such a strong surge of movement.
and though it’s true that sua would never use this shampoo in her life, she thinks that she’d probably do well in a shampoo cf regardless.

december 2019 evaluations commercial film improv provided object: pepero box
└ ┘
as a master weaver of tall tales (read: liar), chanyeol is an expert at putting on a face and rolling with whatever comes out of his mouth, belief in his lies resting upon his features, often indecipherable whether or not he's joking around or speaking in all seriousness. it's an art he's mastered over the years, a mechanism meant to keep himself from diving too deeply into anything too emotional, a pretense of shallowness to keep him from going over the edge. to put it frankly, park chanyeol is a great liar.
a natural acting talent, he is not.
there's something quite different about being put on the spot, trying to go according to a script or presenting an item to the public for purchase. a lie is simple, made up on the spot, often outlandish and outrageous, spoken with a straight face that says he believes everything he's blurting out. so when they put a box of pepero in his hand and tell him to make up an impromptu cf, he stands there frozen for a few moments, wondering if he can pull this off.
if he were at home, dared to do this by his friends and family, he'd go overboard, crafting some elaborate story of knight and dragons and ghosts for good measure, but he thinks if he remembers the coaches' words, to take it seriously, and it's hard to craft such a large tale in thirty seconds without all the necessary cg and cast extras.
so he goes with what he knows. pepero is heavily linked to couples and romance, and he thinks he's had good practice at that over the past year and some odd months and because jisoo isn't there, the camera will have to be a stand-in for the moment.
he approaches the camera with a smile, as if the lens were her bright brown eyes, pretending to cover its eyes without actually touching the equipment, allowing for a bit of space at the bottom of the shot. he's internally dying inside, hating having to show this side himself in public to others, but he tries his best to hide how badly he's cringing at the moment. "wait. don’t open your eyes yet,” he says, voice much softer and gentler than usual. he pauses for a moment before speaking again. “okay, now.”
he moves his hand and backs up, arms perpendicular to the ground as he does a quick spin. “how many days has it been?” he asks, pretending to take out several sticks of pepero, saying the number ‘one’ cutely as he pretends to eat four of them. “eleven eleven?” he then holds up the box. “then let’s continue to be together for the rest of this box...”
he then steps to the side, free hand making a sweeping gesture as if there are stacks and stacks more of pepero boxes, “and all of these, too.”
he steps back into the center of the shot, as if it’s a new scene, holding up the box in his hand. “pepero. joining hearts since 1983.”
the cf, in his head, is over with that line, and he takes this opportunity to crouch down to the ground, every part of his body curling into itself. he thinks the worst is over, but then he remembers...
he has to do it two more times.

He’s lying in bed after a day of practice, scrolling through his phone. A very regular occurrence, though it’s what Moonbok has been watching this past month that is different.
Rather than any gripping drama, MVs or funny animal videos, his video history has been filled with CFs, both current and older ones as he attempts to get his head around the first evaluation Sphere has set for him.
Moonbok won’t lie, he was a little sad that this evaluation was an acting based one as opposed to the general idol performance one he’d been expecting and had been looking forward to. But he could see the reasoning behind it, after all, the success of an idol was partly measured by the endorsements they managed to seize, wasn’t it?
And even if it isn’t the evaluation he’d been expecting, it is an evaluation Moonbok intends on passing. He wants to prove to Baek Jiyoung that she was right in finally granting him a chance to train at Sphere. And if that means he has to try and sell an imaginary product, then so be it.
Besides, it’s a chance for him to let his more charming side out, wasn’t it? Never let it be said that Jang Moonbok was unwilling to use his charms to his advantage.
Spying a bottle of shampoo on his dresser, he scrambles out of bed, suddenly inspired. Grabbing it, Moonbok flashes the imaginary camera a sunny smile, holding the bottle up to his hair.
“My hair is one of my most valuable assets, so don’t expect me to use just any supermarket shampoo on it. For me, the only shampoo I’ll let near my hair is...”
He’s cut off by his roommate’s cackling from the doorway and the evening ends with Moonbok tossing the shampoo bottle at the other male before stalking to bed with a sulk at his performance being cut off.
Word Count: 318

「 Sparkling Shit, U Buy That Shit 」 ⇢ Royal Evals Dec 2k19 | +3 CH ; +2 DB ; +1 WK Acting ⇢ Yuzu shining in what she can do best
“ Yay, nay or gloss was the question. They gave her hair conditioner instead. ”
And so doom day had come. Yuzu was excited more than nervous or scared. She knew how to make a fool out of herself well. If her humor would land in Korea and inside this company just as well as in the international gaming community? She was about to find out. Sitting together with some of the other trainees, leaning comfortably against the person beside her she watched as one by one they went up and delivered their own rendition of an improvised commercial.
Some made her laugh, some made her cringe and for some she actually felt sorry but never once did the girl bother to think up anything for her own turn. Studying the items one by one she had a basic construct for most of them in her head but not wanting to box herself in too much, she avoided overthinking it.
Then it was her turn and the new trainee marched up towards the selection, cracking her knuckles and twisting her neck in her over-dramatic mannerism. The moment she was handed a bottle of conditioner, her lips pressed into a line and she nodded once. She got this.
Taking a moment to think she nodded again when she was ready and slipped right into character. With a swift motion she tugged on her hairband, releasing her ponytail and letting her hair fall across her shoulders. Turning towards the camera with a smile on her lips, hair swaying gracefully behind her it was almost as if she did a slow motion there. “Bringing some colour into my life. But not while ruining my hair structure.” Then she holds the bottle up and flips her hair back over her shoulders as she delivers the perfect line. “Prime Conditioner. So my hair doesn’t just look like cotton candy but actually feels like it too!” She finishes her commercial by raising a strand of hair to her lips, holding it there as if she had a mustache. “And it smells like cotton candy too!” Just a tiny additional line for the entertaining factor, a laugh leaving her lips. She puts a hand before her face then to symbolize some form of scene cut and then lowers it to look directly into the camera with a soft smile. “Prime Conditioner. Touch the rainbow.” Extending her hand forward she carefully bobs her index finger against the camera and finishes up with another bright smile. Then she finally handed the bottle back to the staff with a bow and wrapped up her shot.
Returning to her seat she tilts her head, humming beneath her breath. She could have done better but for a first evaluation? Probably not too bad.

「 all about the face 」
a rkdec19eval starter for @rksihyeon
when the announcement for this months evaluation came jaehyun couldn't help but feel a little nostalgic, remembering back in february when jiwon had challenged him to apply for the commercial that ended up with hi getting offered a contract. hence why he ironically calls himself the face genius of kt-- sometimes unironically as well because jaehyun was aware that he was above average in looks.
in his aimless walk he found himself wondering what he should choose to advertise this month. since he could choose anything he'd like.
"hm," jaehyun pondered on it while he walked into the cafeteria-- he grabbed some food and wondered where he should sit-- the table with the older hyungs was awfully loud and jaehyun didn't want to kill the mood. so instead he contemplated to sit down on a table by himself but in the corner of his eye he noticed sia-- and jaehyun opted for the table she was sitting by.
"noona," he said politely, "is this chair free?" he lifed his brows carefully, if it was occupied then he wouldn't bother her and his feelings wouldn't be hurt either. jaehyun hadn't really interacted with the female a lot but during the last eval, jaehyun had given her one of his heat packs, just in case she was feeling cold.

USE THE SLEEVES OF MY SWEATER ˟ ( LET’S HAVE AN A D V E N T U R E )
he doesn’t know what to expect and, truth be told, he doesn’t think his experience in convex gives him much of an advantage over anyone else.
[ that’s a secret fear he has, that at any and every turn, he’ll be judged for whatever advantages he has over others because of convex when, really, he thinks he left before things really kicked off, before things could be solidified, before he really came off as a true member. for so many years, he’s fought to be recognized as himself. ironic, when his phrase used to be be you. it still is, kinda. but lately he thinks he hasn’t been much of his true self in the past as compared to now. it’s weird, thinking that an overtly loud, outgoing person like him wasn’t true enough until now and it has more to do with his music than his social life, has more to do with finding and nurturing his own style instead of making what seems cool, what seems like it’ll receive good reception, what he thinks others want him to make. ]
instead, he realizes his reaction to the props in the room is maybe too honestly him. because, come on, of course it’s just like choi minho to come up with some cheesy romeo-like line, right?
he’s glad to find it among the many items— a hand warmer. he starts off without it in hand, suddenly shivering and forcing his teeth to chatter as he says just-as-cheesy things leading up to the moment. if only he could name brands or characters because it’s perfect timing with the recent release of frozen 2, just saying.
pretending to accept the hand warmer from someone else, he’s laughing even through the shivering, rubbing his hands together as if activating it, and he denies with absolute certainty that it can’t possibly work until he’s placed it against his chest, hand visibly where his heart is.
“ah, wait... i think i’m melting. ah, as long as my heart is warm, my body will be warm. what a treasure.”

❤ ━━━━━━ KT ┊ CF PREPARATION . 𝐃𝐄𝐂𝐄𝐌𝐁𝐄𝐑 ◞ EVALUATION ₊
ever since moon taeri and lee seonyoung had graced their beautiful and poreless faces before them at the beginning of the month, jiwon had been religiously reviewing the video examples nonstop. it was like some hyperactive, attention-depraved monster had taken a hold of her body and forced her to pay exclusive attention to the tasks at hand. and while none of them really knew what would await them come the end of the month, the anticipation began to build and jiwon didn’t want to be left unprepared if the impossible came to be.
so, she reviews.
like any good student ( even if jiwon was by far the worst student she knew, and hyunjin knew that best ) she studied like hell and back -- trying to make sure she knew each component of any commercial they allowed them to imitate. her background as a youtuber could have come in handy -- sans the fact that since she became a trainee the sponsorships lessened and the endorsements ceased to exist. and whatever ‘ influence ’ she had used to have -- it no longer ringed true.
which was why she was trying so hard.
even when she had gotten up, front and center, stammered and blanked on what to say during the learning sessions, jiwon made sure to reflect and understand just why it had gone wrong. not to say that she was perfect, it was far from it, if she were to be really honest ; but she believed she did all she could.
whatever they threw at her, jiwon would be prepared enough to face it with a body full of confidence.
( as much confidence as she could muster, at least )

『 Stay Hydrated! 』 ⇢ KT Evals Dec 2k19 | +3 CH ; +2 DB ; +1 Wk Acting ⇢ Jkook showing off his god darn abs again
“ It was a wink of fate. He had to just give it to ‘em. ”
When the fateful day came and they pushed a water bottle into his hands, Jeongguk knew he had to do it.
It had been an idea in his mind ever since they had watched commercials and spent the rest of the months practicing impro commercials. Sure, Johnny had taken the top of the cake with his interpretation of these month’s evaluations but Jeongguk knew how to shine in his own way and perhaps it would do him well to be a little less confident and cocky about it.
Tossing the bottle of water up once before catching it again, a cocky grin settles onto his lips as he looks back to his friends before giving a short nod to the staff that he was ready. Water bottle secured in the spacious pocket of his sweat pants the male runs a hand through his hair, thankful that the strands still looked rather sweaty from his dance practice earlier.
A heavy sigh leaving his lips, he tilted his head back while his hands settled onto his hips and looked up towards the ceiling, pretending to be breathing heavily as if he had just run a marathon. “Woah, so thirsty...,” he complained before reaching for his shirt and yes- yes you guessed it. Pretending to wipe his sweat away he put his abs on full display for the camera, letting the bottle in his pocket come into view.
Pretending as if he had just noticed it himself he took it out before letting his shirt drop back down and observing the bottle closely. Then he uncapped it and tipped it back, the stale water tasting anything but good. Regardless he downed almost all of it before standing back straight as a refreshing sigh leaves his lips, smiling back at the plastic in his hands as if it had just saved his life. “Better.”
Then his eyes drift to the lens and he moves quick to put the lid back on before holding the no-name brand out to the camera. “KT Water. Perfect hydration for a fit and healthy body!”
And to wrap it up, just because he could, the male flexed his arm, a wide, toothy grin on his lips.
Nailed it.

*** ♔ ┊ trc december evaluation && cf evaluation
well, this is it. he has no idea what he’s going to do. that’s life.
except, that’s most of his life, he thinks. for how long has seungjoon been half-assing his way through? it’s the new year; maybe he should be reflecting on these things. watching the closed door, he gets distracted. how did that song go again? it was a cf with nara in it... ddi ddi ddi ddi... ddiddiddiddi ddibububu ddibuddibuddi... bubububu... he chuckles to himself. what a silly song.
oh, he’s next.
seungjoon makes his way inside the evaluation room. sudden fear. he eyes the props on top of the table, and then the person who’d tell him what to do. “what’s this?” he asks before arriving at the correct spot. in front of him, too many objects. they had only promised him one. his eyebrows automatically furrow, staring at the person in front of him. did they think he was some sort of joke?
“your object will be... contacts.” in an immediate response, his eyes widen. “what...” it takes him a moment to find his assigned product on the table before taking it onto his hands. what a joke. “isn’t this a bit unsanitary?” the staff stares back at him. “there’s nothing inside. you only need to pretend. whenever you’d like now...” he takes that as words of hurry. hurry up, seungjoon.
just as he had seen, seungjoon raises the small box next to his face. he stands like there for a few moments. somehow, he has to start. “can’t see?” good opening line. “wait, let me try again.” he lowers the box again and the staff repeats what he already knows: he has three tries. with a deep breath, he tries again. the box is back next to his face.
he stares at it this time, and then slowly turns forward. “can you only read things if they’re really close? lens. easy to put in; easy to take out." with his prepared line, seungjoon settles the box down on the table again. one finger raises towards his face, and his face turns up. “you don’t need to do it-” the staff tries to stop him. pointless. the man sticks his finger on his eyes and takes out the lens he was already wearing. “ow...” he looks back down, discomfort now settling in. he didn’t need to. “isn’t it easy?”
seungjoon tries to deliver his finishing line, but now the back of his hand is pressed against his now naked eye. this will go to the list of regrets. “can i go now?” “yes.”

♡◞ DECEMBER EVALUATIONS ┋ cf improvisation, jewelry ad !!
when push comes to shove, nayeon has learned some things are easier said than done, especially when it came to doing certain tasks in front of a large audience. she isn't quite sure why the thought of performing in front of so many people causes a chill to travel up her spine, the fact that the majority of those she'll be stood before are those who she's fairly familiar and friendly with only confusing her more. performing for an audience had never been an issue for her, the brief period in time in which it had been something that bothered her having now long since passed thanks to boosted confidence and time.
as her eyes sweep across the table of assorted props and accessories, all ready and waiting to be tossed their way once called, nayeon begins to understand why her stomach continues to flip.
for all the practice she's done, all the spare moments she's given to studying expressions and movements so common to a majority of advertisements, there would still be an element of surprise that no one would be able to fully predict no matter how prepared they may feel they are— for all she knew, one of the acting coaches could toss a box of tissues her way and wait with hardened eyes to see what she'd do.
what would she do? cradle the box like a newborn child, precious and delicate as if its contents weren't meant to catch whatever gunk flew out of sickly noses during flu season? take tissues out delicately and blow into them with the same amount of grace she'd had when she'd done the same actions not even a few weeks ago, dizzy and feverish? surely that wouldn't sell, not even to the oddest of crowds.
nayeon prayed she wouldn't be given tissues.
by the time she called to stand before the camera, her hearts hammering in her chest, a somewhat tight-lipped smile on her face as she waits for her prop to be assigned. imagine the joy that spreads across her body as a small set of jewelry is handed to her, gaze lighting up as she counts her blessings and action is called.
for this, talking is the least of her worries, the objective clear in her mind as she moves to put a ring on, thankful for her long, slender fingers as the metal slides on nicely. in this moment, it isn't supposed to be about her, it's about the product— all she has to do is look pretty and draw attention to wherever the accessories fall. so, she holds a hand up, feigning blocking the sun from her eyes, making sure to angle herself to the cameras can view the ring along with her profile. her necks on display as she puts the necklace on slowly, letting is shine in the fluorescent lights. she puts on an earring for the hell of it, the final coming in the forming of tucking hair behind an ear as she stares at the camera with wide, pretty eyes, and effortless grin growing on her lips as the earring dangles freely.
despite not having to use much of what she'd practiced, she's more than glad she'd taken the time to check her angles.

✞* cf (commercial friends) ╯
⊰ ◝ @seulgirk ⊱
december has been a difficult month. he spent the first week of it with no sense of meaning whatsoever, hardly able to drag himself through the training day, heavy with sadness in the wake of woojin’s departure. he spent the first week of it wanting to leave, but talking to jinwook (and burdening him with his problems in the middle of such a busy season for him) helped. at first he wanted to leave, but then he thought, if not this, what? could he leave sphere and create a new band without kenta, leaving kenta as a trainee entirely alone? wouldn’t that be worse than never getting signed in the first place?
so he stays, and does what he does best to fight back sadness: fakes it. december’s evaluation proves an interesting distraction, and thankfully (miraculously) doesn’t involve breaking his back dancing. it’s something new to him, and something he fears a little, preemptively embarrassed, but he wants to do well. he doesn’t know what exactly sphere will have them do yet, but they told them to practice, and that’s exactly what daniel intends to do, never really one to stray from what he’s told.
he and seulgi agreed to practice together during independent study, some of the cfs they were shown requiring two people and this activity generally seeming more fun with someone else. they sit on the floor now, and daniel’s a little nervous, but he likes seulgi, and he’s sure he can fake confidence with this enough. hopefully they’ll be able to just laugh about the ridiculousness of it more than anything else. “i think we should practice the mascara cf first,” he declares. sure, the original was with two girls, and daniel will have no use for mascara ever (he assumes) but he liked that one best, maybe because of the english in it. if anything, he thinks trying it first will lighten the mood and make everything else after easier.

♛ ┊ rkdec19eval - prep
when she had first been in the modelling and acting class-- yeji had been a little amazed, sure she had modelled for her mothers restaurant before but only because her mother didn't want to bother finding models for it or sign any contracts. back then all yeji had done was smile at the camera, making different expressions that would suit eating.
so, if anything, yeji wasn't completely lost but at the same time, she wasn't completely confident that she would do this evaluation well.
"what to do..." she uttered to herself, first of all, she needed to find something she wanted to model. she could go for something common, like fried chicken-- banana milk? or maybe even a lip tint but that didn't feel very authentic to her, even though she knew that when if one day hopefully become an idol she needed to be able to model many different products if she got that opportunity. which this eval was supposed to prepare her for.
right now for this eval, yeji wanted to 'advertise' something she believed in or something she liked, or at least something that she used especially now that she is a trainee. what was a thing that she couln't be without? her tights? or maybe her training shoe?
yeji couldn't help wondering what on earth she could possibly advertise.
she knew she had to prepare or practice with something, if they gave her something random in the room at least she would know the gist of what to do with the object. one would think that she who got complimented for her expressions on stage would know what to do in a setting like this but-- this was a completely different area for her.
"i'm sure i'll figure something out? right?" she stared into the mirror, remembering the lesson that they had gotten the previous day-- she just had to find a way to transfer her expressions on stage, to those on camera.
