Dec 14: And this is one reunion that is looong overdue. What a joy to see @mayla0525 again, not seen since we moved out of Tokyo in 2008. I’ve been surrounded by love, more so since Mom’s passing. Tonight, @junko.matsuhisa , my bestie from Tokyo surprised me with this lovely dinner and companion; and she has personally instructed the pastry chef to put emphasis on the “50th” part of the congratulatory writing, to make sure that the super bold number pops up in every photo LOL. It seems like my birthday celebration has been extended again. This truly has been the highlight of my Tokyo stay this time. I’m really, really grateful for such amazing friends, and so, so, so undeserving of their loving thoughts. Thank you, Junko! What an emotional day: I’d have loved to have Mom and Dad usher me into my 50th year on this earth today; but Mom left us exactly two weeks ago. Instead, my tribe, HeMoGloBin, presented me with a surprise luncheon at the @onnikitchen.id complete with 50 gold balloons, cake topped with a character based on my favorite online avatar, and best of all, their loving and supportive company. I was going to scream when I entered the room, but that would’ve scared the bejeezus outta my Dad. I love my friends; more so in these past four years when they’d alleviated the stress that resulted from taking care of my ailing parents. And I adore them for taking care of my parents while I’m back in the States.
