Blowout Bingo: If you guessed 'back tire' you are a winner! And I am lucky!
With Jack & Bob • 8/29/18 Picked up a new tire at Bike Connection in Palo Alto to replace the Bontrager 4 Season tire I’ve had on for all of a month now. The New Pirelli P Zero tire rolls fast! I guess I should get one for the front :-)
Not sure what I ran over, but it must’ve been kinda sharp!

Waiting to get done with dialysis so I can call AAA to tow my car to a tire shop...popped my front tire on an uneven road down the street from the clinic at 7 this morning. Thankfully I was able to limp my car into the parking lot so I could make it to my treatment on time! Trying to stay positive but dang, this unexpected expense throws a wrench in my vacation man! #Vacation #LifeChallenges #FlatTire #Tennessee #RoadHazard #AAA (at Newport, Tennessee) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVF9xP7g9SB/?utm_medium=tumblr

Careful if you’re driving past the lakes in Bridgeport. Tree down, laying on lines. Passable but you have to go clear off the road. Was around 3pm, may be clear now. #roadhazard #countryroads (at Bridgeport, West Virginia) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0O6fnTl75H/?igshid=tms2tdy4fcge

🚴♀️ Cycling is a great way to stay fit and explore the outdoors, but it can also be dangerous if proper safety measures are not taken. With the increasing popularity of cycling, it's important to know how to stay safe on the road. 🚨 Crash cycling is a term used to describe the unfortunate event of a cyclist getting into an accident. Whether it's due to a careless driver or a mistake made by the cyclist, crashes can result in serious injuries or even death. However, there are steps you can take to minimize the risk of a crash while cycling. 🛡️ In this article, we'll provide you with tips for safe riding that will help you avoid crashes and stay protected on the road. From wearing the right gear to following traffic rules, these tips will ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable cycling experience. So, let's get started!1. Understanding the Risks: Common Causes of Cycling Accidents🚴♂️ Cycling accidents can happen due to various reasons. Here are some common causes: 🚗 Collisions with motor vehicles 🚶♀️ Pedestrians stepping into the bike lane 🚚 Large vehicles blocking visibility 🚧 Poor road conditions 🌬️ Strong winds and weather conditions 🚲 Equipment failure or malfunction 👀 Being aware of these risks can help cyclists take precautions and prevent accidents.2. Gearing Up: Essential Safety Equipment for Crash CyclingBefore hitting the road, make sure to gear up with these essential safety equipment: 👕 A well-fitting helmet to protect your head from injuries. 👖 Padded cycling shorts to prevent chafing and provide cushioning. 👟 Sturdy cycling shoes with good grip to keep your feet on the pedals. 🕶️ Sunglasses to shield your eyes from the sun, wind, and debris. 🧤 Gloves to improve your grip and protect your hands in case of a fall. Other important gear to consider: 🚴♂️ A high-visibility cycling jersey or vest to make you more visible to motorists. 🚴♀️ A rearview mirror to help you monitor traffic behind you. 🚴♂️ A bike lock to secure your bike when you need to leave it unattended. 🚴♀️ A first-aid kit to treat minor injuries on the go. 🚴♂️ Lights and reflectors to increase your visibility at night or in low-light conditions. Remember, safety should always come first when cycling. Don't skimp on gear and always be prepared for the unexpected.3. Mastering the Basics: Techniques for Safe Riding on the RoadBefore hitting the road, make sure to check your bike's brakes, tires, and lights. Wear a helmet, gloves, and protective clothing. Always ride on the right side of the road, in the same direction as traffic. Use hand signals when turning or changing lanes. Stay visible by wearing bright colors and using reflectors. Stay alert and aware of your surroundings. Avoid distractions like using your phone while riding. Keep a safe distance from other vehicles. Scan the road ahead for potential hazards. Slow down in wet or slippery conditions. Practice defensive riding by anticipating the actions of other drivers. Be prepared to brake or swerve to avoid obstacles. Watch for cars turning or changing lanes without signaling. Stay out of blind spots and avoid riding in between lanes. Remember to always follow traffic laws and signs. Obey speed limits and stop signs. Yield to pedestrians and other vehicles when necessary. Use bike lanes when available. By mastering these basics, you can ensure a safe and enjoyable ride on the road. 🚴♀️🚴♂️4. Staying Alert: Tips for Avoiding Hazards and Obstacles on Your RouteWhen cycling, it is crucial to stay alert to avoid hazards and obstacles on your route. Here are some tips to help you stay safe: Scan the road ahead for any potential hazards, such as potholes, debris, or pedestrians. Use hand signals to communicate with other road users, especially when turning or changing lanes. Wear reflective clothing and use lights to increase your visibility, especially at night or in low-light conditions. Stay focused on the road and avoid distractions, such as using your phone or listening to music. Additionally, it is essential to be aware of your surroundings and anticipate potential hazards. Here are some more tips: Watch out for parked cars, as doors can suddenly open and cause a collision. Be cautious when approaching intersections and always look both ways before crossing. Avoid riding too close to the curb, as this can increase the risk of hitting obstacles or debris. Stay alert for other cyclists or vehicles that may be approaching from behind. Remember, staying alert and aware of your surroundings is key to avoiding accidents and staying safe on the road. 🚲👀5. Riding in a Group: Best Practices for Safe and Effective Cycling in a PackRiding in a group can be a fun and efficient way to cycle, but it requires good communication and awareness to stay safe. Here are some best practices: Communicate: Use hand signals, call out hazards, and communicate changes in speed or direction. Stay predictable: Avoid sudden movements or swerving, and maintain a consistent pace. Keep a safe distance: Maintain at least a wheel's length between riders to avoid collisions. Be aware: Keep an eye on the road ahead, as well as the riders around you. Follow the rules: Obey traffic laws and ride in a single-file line when necessary. Additionally, it's important to be prepared for the ride: Bring supplies: Carry water, snacks, and a repair kit in case of emergencies. Dress appropriately: Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and a helmet. Know your limits: Ride at a pace and distance that's comfortable for you. Be respectful: Respect other riders, pedestrians, and drivers on the road. By following these best practices and being prepared, you can enjoy a safe and effective group ride. 🚴♀️🚴♂️6. Planning Ahead: Strategies for Preparing for Emergencies and Accidents on the Road🚗 Accidents and emergencies can happen anytime on the road. It's important to plan ahead and be prepared. 💡 Create a checklist of essential items to keep in your car, such as a first aid kit, flashlight, and spare tire. 📱 Make sure your phone is fully charged and have emergency contacts saved. Consider downloading a safety app like "Roadside America" or "Waze." 🚨 Know what to do in case of an accident. Call 911 immediately and move to a safe location. Exchange information with the other driver and take photos of the damage. 🚦 Stay alert and avoid distractions while driving. Follow traffic rules and stay within the speed limit. Keep a safe distance from the car in front of you. 🚙 Regular maintenance of your car can prevent accidents. Check tire pressure, brakes, and headlights. Keep your car clean and well-organized. 👨👩👧👦 Educate your family and friends on road safety. Teach your kids how to use seat belts and car seats. Encourage them to be responsible passengers. 👍 By following these strategies, you can reduce the risk of accidents and be prepared for emergencies on the road. Stay safe and enjoy your travels! In conclusion, cycling can be a fun and healthy activity, but it can also be dangerous if proper precautions are not taken. Remember to always wear a helmet, use hand signals, and obey traffic laws. Stay alert and aware of your surroundings, and be prepared for unexpected obstacles. By following these tips, you can greatly reduce your risk of getting into a crash while cycling. Don't let fear hold you back from enjoying this great activity. With the right knowledge and preparation, you can ride safely and confidently. 🚴♀️🚴♂️ So, whether you're a seasoned cyclist or just starting out, remember to prioritize safety and always be aware of potential hazards on the road. HA! How is this even possible? I was a bit surprised when my back tire took a 3’ detour to the left on what I thought was a 40’ strip of water in the road... turned out to be automatic transmission fluid... lo and behold... some joker lost his torque converter, it was laying on the side of the road... how is that even possible? • • • • • • #kz #kz650 #scrambler #steampunk #postapocalypse #leather #builtnotbought #custom #custommotorcycle #postapocalyptic #vintagemotorcycle #scramblerstrackers #bratcafe #roadhazard #transmission
