"An Elegant Villain Unvealed!"
Really glad that Rollin' Rascal got their Kickstarter fully funded! I'm a bit late, lol. Seems like it'll be a fun game. I hope they improve on the 3D Sonic gameplay style!
Once I saw Elegance, I knew I had to draw her. I love evil ladies, lol. And robotic designs of course! It definitely was hard doing metallic shading for the first time in a while, but it was a nice challenge.

I don't play a lot of videogames but when I do I get quite deep into them. This game is on Kickstarter at the moment, I think it ends in a few days actually called Rollin' Rascal - here is a link.
I had this idea for a fire based power up and just had to draw it. x3

Just want to add that Rollin’ Rascal’s massively successful Kickstarter campaign (which is still adding and meeting stretch goals via Pledgebox) shows there absolutely is an appetite for this stuff. That’s not to say it’s what Sonic should be doing but I think the trend towards accessible simplicity with Sonic is due to its primary target audience of children and casuals, but I don’t really agree with OP’s idea that people just want watered down dopamine hits.
Does it worry you that most Frontiers fans don't seem to care (and in some cases actually prefer the boost gameplay) vs. mastering rolling? There's this weird (sad) vibe I get of games getting less complicated if not outright one-button easy and gamers actively seeking simplified interaction systems in a positive feedback loop. I imagine a rolling platformer Sonic wouldn't be very well-received because 'you can't immediately control him how you want to'. Have you wondered about that like I have?
Occasionally, sure. But I also think Sonic's been the type of game to go with what's easiest and most accessible. Or tried to, at least.
Rolling in Sonic 1 was very difficult, so we got the spindash in Sonic 2. The spindash got its own dedicated button in Sonic Adventure, so you could constantly spam it everywhere. The spindash became the boost. The boost, when done correctly, is its own type of momentum, because you're incentivized to hold uninterrupted boosts for long times instead of just mashing the button.
Like, I used to be a hardcore stickler for "Sonic HAS to roll or it's not Sonic!" but now I'm at a point where I don't actually like how in Sonic Generations they have him do a spindash animation for random reasons (like drifting) and I wasn't exactly celebrating the spindash boost in Lost World, either.
Like, yeah, if you're gonna do a 2D game, I think rolling and proper rolling physics are integral to that. But in 3D, I dunno if it's that appealing, partially because I've almost never liked how they portray rolling in 3D. If he's rolling, Sonic needs to be a perfectly round ball. Not somersaulting, not some magic energy field. A ball. SA1 understood that.

Paycheck was pretty rough but I had enough to where I backed the Rollin' Rascal kickstarter, which I thought I should do now given that the campaign ends before my next paycheck. We love to see Sonic fangame devs turned indie devs succeed. Although having said that my paycheck was not good enough to where I could do that and also buy Penny's Big Breakaway so that one has to wait, rip.
#23.2.24#can't wait to not be able to afford freedom planet 2 when that drops on switch as well#sonic
