Are beetroots healthy?
On the basis of the red color, beetroots have become known in ancient times as a blood-forming medicinal plant. In red beetroots, there is an extremely high content of iron and folic acid, which are crucial in the formation of red blood cells. In addition, beetroots are very low in fat and due to the saponins and flavonoids, they are good for cancer prevention. But also the coloring betaine in the red turnip is in the protection against cancer diseases involved. Beetroots are also used in the so-called turnip therapy and as a preventive measure for blood diseases like
leukemia
colorectal
cancer.
Not only does the turnip itself have a positive effect, but also the raw leaves, for example in beetroot juice or in the form of green smoothies. In addition, the beetroot juice has an appetizing and antihypertensive effect. For this reason, beetroots are very healthy.
Beetroots protect blood vessels and internal organs
Thanks to the phytochemical substance betaine, which is richly contained in beetroots, beetroots ensure the
stimulation of liver cells
stability of the bile duct
strengthening of the gall bladder.
Thanks to betaine, the human organism is able to quickly and completely eliminate toxins and metabolic end products. In addition, the red dye supports
the protection against vascular and heart diseases
the reduction of homocysteine levels.
Since in beetroots are not only betaine but also large amounts of the folic acid present, it can be assumed that a consumption of beetroot food and beetroot juice at regular intervals prevent stroke and myocardial infarction. According to current studies, elevated homocysteine levels are responsible for the development of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. Here can also the consumption of beetroot develop its protective effects.
Beetroots and other health aspects
Betaine, which occurs in beetroots, can increase the level of serotonin for a better mood in humans. Furthermore, the healthy vegetables are known for the fact that two glasses of beetroot juice per day are sufficient to help regulate the blood pressure. Within three hours, a reduction in blood pressure can be observed by drinking beetroot juice. This phenomenon is maintained up to 24 hours after the consumption of the juice.
Numerous vital substances in beetroot leaves
In the leaves of the beetroots, there is a variety of vital substances. The leaves have
triple amount of magnesium
six times the amount of vitamin C
seven times the amount of calcium
200 times the amount of vitamin A
2000 times the amount of vitamin K
Beetroots ensure a relatively rapid healing of wounds and are also known to be effective against the odor of garlic. Moreover, the red vegetable is very suitable for any kind of detoxification and internal cleansing of the human organism. If fresh beet juice is drunk every day, a colon cleansing can be done more quickly. At the same time, an increase in the resistance force of the human body is to be expected. Particularly good effects can be seen in the regular consumption of beetroot for skin problems such as
abscesses
acne
boil
Beetroots - Benefits for pregnant women from folic acid
Thanks to the exceptionally high content of folic acid in beetroot - 80 micrograms per 100 g - pregnant women benefit from this vegetable since folic acid is needed for the production of new cells. If folic acid is present, the unborn baby is spared the so-called open back spinal bifida and cleft lip and palate. But also people who are in a healing process can benefit from the increased folic acid content in beetroots.
Beetroots help with various diseases
For example, the consumption of beetroots can have a positive effect on the following diseases:
Alzheimer
arthrosis
diabetes
increased blood pressure
heart disease
For all diseases mentioned here, relief is to be expected with a regular consumption of beetroot. In the organism of diabetics and overweight persons, there is a reduction in nitrogen production. This is boosted again by the beetroots. The consequence of this is an improvement in the insulin sensitivity, which enables an improved control of the blood glucose in the diabetic. In persons with high blood pressure, a constriction of the vessels often occurs. Especially the drinking of beetroot juice is effective in the expansion of the blood vessels.
Beetroots - what makes them so valuable?
Beetroots provide besides the mentioned vital substances
potassium
sodium
iodine
phosphorus
vitamin A
vitamin B
Also, the high quantities of beetroot iron are not to be despised. By regular consumption of the vegetables, the formation of mitochondria is favored. The higher the proportion of mitochondria in the human organism, the more powerful human beings can be. Anyone who has more mitochondria in old age is much slower. In addition, the person feels more vital.
Beetroots - Help with losing weight?
People who have more mitochondria because of an increased consumption of beetroot can also burn fat better. In the long run, an optimized fat metabolism leads to the melting of superfluous pounds. Overall, the increased blood flow caused by the use of beetroots helps to mobilize stubborn fat deposits.
Beetroot - What does it bring to athletes?
Due to the fact that beetroot encourages mitochondrial formation, athletes are enabled to perform more efficiently. The positive effect of improved fat metabolism by the regular consumption of beet is also of great benefit to athletes ( less dependent on its carbohydrate stores). Thanks to an increased blood flow, the structures of the connective tissue and the muscles after the workout are much better supplied, which leads to a recovery. If injuries occur in the connective tissue or in the area of the muscles, these can be cured much faster by the beetles.
Beetroots in the kitchen
Thanks to the deep red color, the beetroot brings life to the plate. But not only because of the coloring it is worthwhile to include them in the nutritional plan. The slightly sweet-sour flavor fits into the hearty dishes such as the beetroot salad with sausage as well as in fine food such as beetroots with almond. The vegetable can withstand strong aromas and spices particularly well. Intensive flavors can be caused by sharpness. Red beet salad is usually added in vinegar. There are numerous beet recipes, including the traditionally well-known recipe Labskaus. This is mainly spread in the north of Germany and consists of
Potatoes
Matjes
Corned Beef
Onions
Beetroot
All the ingredients are cooked to a mushroom sauce and then served together with fried egg, cucumber and rollmops. Borscht, a Russian red soup, has a similarly high degree of popularity. This stew usually consists of potatoes, meat, white cabbage and beetroot. The ingredients are braised for a very long time at a low temperature so that the different flavor varieties can develop well.
With beetroots through the winter
All varieties of beetroots are extremely healthy. Enriched with good ingredients like
potassium
iron
Folic acid
vitamin B
They contribute to the deacidification of the human body and the stimulation of the metabolism. At the same time, the immune system is being strengthened by the phytochemicals, what is extremely important especially in the winter months. Furthermore, the vegetable contains substances which have an anti-inflammatory effect. For the best use of the beetroot effect it is advisable to consume these raw, as beetroot juice or as raw food. If you do not like the earthy aftertaste of the beetroots, you can help by adding fruits, spices or dairy products. But also in the cooked condition, beetroots are healthy, so it is quite worthwhile to try numerous delicious beetroot recipes.
Beetroot - A visual and culinary enrichment
Beetroot is a very affordable foodstuff. It can be easily cultivated even in less favorable locations, has no special demands on the soil and can be stored without great problems over the winter months. Almost every meal can be enriched with the buttery taste of the roots. Since the numerous nutrients and folic acid present in the beetroot react very sensitively to heat and are also degraded during storage, it is advisable to produce beetroot juice on your own. Purchased beetroot juice is pasteurized and is mostly under the influence of light for a long time in the store business. It is also recommended to consume preferably beetroot raw food. Pure red beet juice has a special taste, and therefore does not satisfy everyone. THat's why it is recommended to mix the juice with apples, carrots and especially lemons. If you do not own a juicer, you should make sure that it is not a centrifuge juicer. Better is the purchase of a juicer with a press-rollsum or press-screw technology, which manages with a quite small number of revolutions of 80 to 110. This results in easy juicing of the leaf vegetables.

For the storage of the beetroots it is advisable to use a dark, cool and dry place, where it lasts for a relatively long time. It is not advisable to freeze it, though. If this is intended, this should have definitely be cooked beforehand. If the beetroot is to be further processed, the healthy vegetable must also be cooked in boiling salted water for about three-quarters of an hour. What is crucial is that the peel first remains on the vegetables and it does not have any injuries. Otherwise, a bleeding of the beetroot is to be expected, which makes the tuber a gray, unappetizing lump. After the cooking process, the dish can be carefully peeled. It is advisable to wear disposable gloves and an apron as the beetroot juice colors everything without mercy. In the event that something goes wrong despite all precautions, lemon juice can help remove stains. For those who are in a hurry, there are already ready-cooked and vacuumed beetroots to buy.
