I was wondering what camcorder you use and if you use any specific settings for it. Does the raw footage always have that grainy effect, or is it more from the television stills?

hello, thank you so so much hun <3 i use a panasonic vhs-c palmcorder and don't adjust any of the settings in camera. most old inexpensive handicams have objectively shitty plastic lenses and automatically shoot at a high iso when it's dark, and those combined give you all that noise/crunchiness. also, in general, the smaller the thing the less rosolution it has to offer -- so shooting on vhs-c rather than full vhs tapes degrades the quality of the output image/video. the tv adds more texture to the final product and creates a certain look in other ways but certainly isn't responsible for everything noise-wise. i've gotten the most 'crunch' when i used a capture card to digitize stuff...remember it lookin like i ran the footage over with a mower.
