“Do you mind if I sit here?”
“Oh! No, not at all, go ahead. I can move over, if you want more room? I don’t mind!”
“No, it’s okay, I’m good.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah, I’m just waiting for Austyn. Are you going to Hogsmeade?”
“I’m going with Jordan. As friends, you know -- just hanging out, not like that, because she likes girls and I’m a boy, so. Yeah.”
“Okay?”
“You know what, I forgot something, I’m heading back, I’ll just see you later? Or I won’t? I don’t know. Uh. Have a good day?”

stevefknrogers replied to your post “do you think iris would have an easier time of it if she was an only...”
wren protests and says iris is not a tagalong!! he always wanted her to come along ok
on her good days, iris knows that ♥ but it doesn’t change the fact that she mostly let wren lead and followed where he went. not that she minded, really, he was curious enough for both of them and always eager to show her everything. i doubt there were many times she spotted or thought of something she wanted to check out or do that he didn’t come up with on his own, anyway.

"This is going to hurt." Wrett
Wren was sitting almost completely still. This was novel -- but then again, so was being in the Hospital Wing for a *real* reason. He usually came down for headaches and Quidditch bruises; the rest he exaggerated, just a little bit, to look at Wyatt.
He knew the other boy didn’t really know he existed, which was actually kind of perfect, because then there was no way he could get his heart broken! He could just daydream about him doing cute stuff instead. It wasn’t like his current injury was stopping him, but every now and then he moved without thinking and then he had to remember that no, he was not on a gondola in Italy. Wren let out a slight hiss as he did it again, the pain jolting through his elbow -- and that caught Wyatt’s attention.
“I could take a look at that, if you want, so I can tell her what’s going on” he offered, from where he’d been making up one of the beds, and Wren exhaled. He bit his lip. He tried not to ramble.
“It’s okay, really, it only hurts when I move it like. Well, like that, and I can just not move it like that, I bet, I can find some other way to carry my bag and take notes and go about my life,” he spoke, almost stumbling over his words and wishing Jordan was here to elbow him.
He was never gonna tell her that, but still. Wyatt nodded, coming a little closer, and Wren could already feel himself falling into his magnetic field. “What happened?”
“Oh...I tripped and kind of skidded and did a whole slip n slide into one of the knights that guard the door? And I tried to stop myself so I wouldn’t hurt him and. Yeah. It’s really dumb,” Wren explained, starting to feel some heat curling up his neck and ears. He wasn’t expecting Wyatt to touch him, his hands soft on tender skin, and it made him jump.
Wyatt took his hands away immediately, which, no. “I’m sorry, I should’ve asked,” he apologized, still standing super close and Wren shook his head, almost thrusting his elbow into Wyatt’s face. That hurt, though, and he quickly tucked his arm to his chest. “Let me try again? This is going to hurt a little, but I think you might’ve dislocated your elbow.” Wyatt’s voice is sincere, his hand a safe distance away, and it’s too cute. It’s so cute he can almost blame the pain on it.
“Okay,” he says, watching as Wyatt’s eyes flicker up to his face and then down to his arm. He moves it the way the other boy says, biting his lip as Wyatt touches him again, and finally, the nurse comes over.
“I think it’s dislocated,” Wyatt tells her and Wren watches his face as she confirms, a slight little proud glint in his eye before he backs off and she takes out her wand. It’s an easy fix, though he still yelps when his elbow pops back in. “Just be careful in Quidditch practice later.”
He knows Wren plays Quidditch! -- because Austyn is his best friend. Wren sighs a little, hopping off the bed, and almost trips. He’s still not used to being this tall after a summer of growth spurts. At least Wyatt isn’t looking at him.
He’s back to making the beds, his focus deliberate and his hands sure. God, what he wouldn’t give to be the (non-injured) center of Wyatt’s attention.

“I’m right here, okay?” Wrett
There is hair and makeup being done to him right now. Wren has only ever really done two things to his hair: grow it out and cut it, and now there’s a lady massaging something into his hair. It actually feels kinda good, but he has no idea what she’s doing. He doesn’t know if it’s better or worse than the lady keeping a running commentary on his dark circles, but she’s talking way faster than he ever has in his life.
At least Wyatt is nearby, but he’s fidgeting. Wren can see him in the mirror, hands jammed into his pocket and rocking a little. He puts his hand out to the side and behind him a little, wriggling his fingers until Wyatt comes to him. Both the ladies working on him sigh, but shift all their stuff, and Wren waits.
“Scared off yet?” Wyatt asks, his voice soft, and he shakes his head. “It’s just a background shot, and you don’t have to say anything or even look directly at the camera,” he reminds him, fingers lacing through his to squeeze his hand.
“I know,” he reassures him, and thankfully, he guesses hair and makeup are done because they’re being left alone now. Wren doesn’t really see much of a difference other than that they made his hair messier, but he doesn’t say so. It might hurt their feelings if they heard him. “I’m right here, okay? And I’m gonna stay here. Well, until they tell me I have to move, but metaphorically right here with you.”
Wyatt smiles, ducking his head, and Wren stands up from the chair, wrapping his arms around him. Something tells him it’s gonna be just fine, though he’s still trying not to think too hard about how many people watch What’s Up With The Whisps?

“When I’m with you, I’m home.” Our thing :3
“Hi Jo, hi Mags, hi Jasper,” Ava sang out, darting into the kitchen. Caden wasn’t far behind her – but he was all arms and legs, in the middle of a growth spurt, and utterly confused by it all. She grabbed for the juice, spinning around when she didn’t get a greeting back, and abruptly paused.
But not before catching Cade’s arm before he ran into her, because it was a close one. Jo and Mags had company, company that was looking at her in a way that made her fidget and put the juice back down. “Hello, ma’am,” she said, a little quieter.
“Ava, this is my mother,” Mags said, after a moment, exchanging some kind of l look with Jo. The older woman in question nodded her head, looking over to Cade, and it was like her whole face changed.
“I wasn’t aware that you would have company while family was over,” she said, her voice crisp, and it made a lot of old (bad) feelings bubble up in her chest. That sounded like every Ministry social worker she’d ever been assigned.
“Ava’s not company, grandma. She’s my best friend,” Caden answered, slinging his arm over her shoulders, but it didn’t feel good. Maybe she should go home. She’d told her godfather that she would be here all day, but he probably wouldn’t care if she came home early.
“Caden’s right,” Jo said, smiling up at them. “We love having Ava here – why don’t you two go up, and I’ll bring the juice to you in a moment?” It’s as clear a signal to get them to leave as anything else is, but Cade is already moving.
She goes with him, poking him in the ribs as she does, and suddenly they’re chasing each other up the stairs, laughing as they do.
It’s not until later that week, when she’s over again for the fifth time, that Ava brings it up. They’re in the barn – she’s already in the loft and he’s making his way up there, his movements sure for once.
“I don’t think your grandma likes me,” she tells him, worrying at a piece of hay, “She wanted me to go home, I could tell.” It’s stuck in a crack of the floorboard.
“She gets funny about that stuff,” Cade says, pulling himself up and over to sit down next to her. He taps her on the knee with his pen and she thrusts her arm out at him, giggling a little at the first stroke. “I don’t know why, though. Cause this is like, your home too.”
“Is it?” Ava asks, hating the kind of weird tilt in her voice. “I like being with all you guys, though. And I like us always being together at Hogwarts too, and all of that.” She pauses, wriggling the hay stalk. “I think maybe, when I’m with you I’m just…home.”
Cade pulls a face at her, turning her hand over so he can get to the underside of her arm. “Moms get that, though. I dunno why grandma doesn’t, but it’s okay. I heard them telling her you’re part of the family.” He bends further down, the pen moving in swirls across her skin – and Ava smiles as big as she can. It makes her cheeks hurt and her heart explode.
Later, when she sits down to write her wedding vows, she marvels that at thirteen she already knew how Caden made her feel.

“I’m not drunk enough for this.” Wrett
There’s Wyatt!
Hiding behind him should absolutely work out for him, Wren decides, and he does, stepping behind. He has to drop his head, though, and tuck his body in, and oh great, now Wyatt is turning.
He’s smiling though. He likes it when Wyatt smiles and it’s for real, not one of the TV smiles or a professor smile or an anything else smile, when he can see dimples. “What’s going on, baby?”
Oh good, baby.  He’s baby. “Jordan is trying to make me sing karaoke,” he explains, like his best friend isn’t standing on the stage and making it perfectly clear what she wants. “And I’m not drunk enough for this! I might never be!”
His smile turns into laughter, which is even better, but it doesn’t help with the main problem.  The main problem is that Jordan can still see him, and if she can see him, she’ll totally force the microphone on him.
“Wyatt,” he whines, covering his face with one hand like it’ll help, before he’s pulled close. He’s holding Wyatt’s hand, but Wyatt’s hand is holding him!
Also his butt.
“Don’t worry, you’re staying right here,” his boyfriend laughs, and Wren does too, leaning into him, all flushed and silly.

“The ladies love a guy who’s good with kids.” Our Thing (DILF Caden pls???)
(we stan a dilf-y caden @seebeccawrite )
Ava stepped away from her apparation point, brushing off her clothes – for once, she’d gotten away early enough that she could come meet them at the park. She scanned the park, a smile tugging at her lips once she spotted Caden and the kids. He was holding Kyra up as she practiced on the monkey bars, while Caleb was scaling the mock climbing wall. None of them could see her, but that was fine. She’d surprise them anyway.
She took a seat on a nearby bench, slipping off the heels she’d been wearing and let out a small sigh of relief. It caught the attention of her bench neighbors, two women about her age, mid-whispered conversation.
“D’you see that man over there by the monkey bars?” One of them addressed her, and Ava glanced, confirming it was still Cade. She was about to answer when they continued, “now that’s someone I’d like to have a playtime with!” They both laughed, and she couldn’t help but go along.
“He’s very handsome,” she agreed, fishing in her bag for the pair of flats she’d optimistically thrown in this morning.
“Handsome? No, that’s more than handsome, honey. Tall and dark and good with kids?” The other woman spoke up, mock-fanning herself and leaned in, “he always leaves by himself, though he’s got a wedding ring. Wonder where his wife is?”
This got her hackles up, just a little bit, but fortunately, she was looking down at her bag. “God, but I love a guy who’s good with kids,” the first woman spoke up again, and Ava straightened, swapping her heels for flats. “His kids are adorable too.”
They all three looked up, as Kyra took on the last rung by herself, swinging onto the platform while Cade watched, and then turned to catch Caleb who had launched himself off the top of the climbing wall. His laughter was loud enough to be heard where they were, and it made Ava smile.
She got to her feet, settling her bag back on her shoulder, and it was then that Kyra caught sight of her. Her daughter screeched happily, charging from the monkey bars up to her, and Ava caught her. Cade and Caleb weren’t far behind; they surrounded her in a group hug. She kissed both kids, feeling Cade’s arms wrap around her waist, and giggled.
“You have admirers, baby,” she mentioned into his ear, and he shook his head, his lips finding hers. As always, Kyra and Caleb pretended to gag and then ran back towards the playset. Once she pulled back, both women were staring at her and she smiled.
If it was a little smug, no one else needed to know.

I'm curious about your thoughts about Ava - any specific ideas you have about her life. What does she end up doing? You know Cade will follow her anywhere. ^_^
oh, Ava definitely suffers from a case of wanting to do everything and see everything and fix everything. She has so many grand plans for the Ministry especially after riding the high of her NEWTs (which you know she demolishes) that when she starts to run up against roadblocks, she hits them hard.
(these roadblocks range from being young/inexperienced to people not listening to her to someone taking credit for her ideas and Ava just goes storming in every time, determined to at least scale the roadblock if not shatter it completely.)
I think she has a hard time in the beginning, when she’s still working her way up things and is the most junior person in the room. I do think she’d move up a career ladder pretty quickly, just because of how much she brings to everything all the time always, but she always wants more.
i’m torn between the department of international magical cooperation & department of magical law enforcement (but tbh i think I just want the latter for the wizengamot -- which I could see ava strong-arming her way into being a part of lol)
ava definitely wanted to be the minister of magic when she was younger, and even though it’s not really something she wants anymore, she still kind of thinks about it sometimes, considers it like a what if?
(as far as her personal life goes....you know, she stays pretty crazy about that tall guy and his cows....)

has austyn explained quidditch to his family? have any of them looked at his broom like that seriously cannot keep you in the air? do they ~get it~
of course! he totally sent them a letter in first year after the first quidditch match like THEY HAVE MAGICAL SPORTS GOODBYE FOOTIE, HELLO QUIDDITCH and then proceeded to explain in great detail how the game works, and kept nudging wyatt like, wait, am i explaining this right? you know more, is this right? did i remember everything? i want them to be able to SEE it you know? and then totally drew really bad sketches of all the different balls and the hoops and stuff.and lol oh god when he begged them to buy him a broom the next summer... his mum and stepdad (and gavyn tbh) were probably all like THAT DOESNT SEEM VERY SAFE and a sales clerk had to swoop in and give the spiel that they must give a lot of muggle parents about how they work and stuff and austyn just stood there admiring the brooms with this look of longing that you just can’t say no to... (danee totally thought it was the coolest thing ever and was a little jealous tbh)

do you think iris would have an easier time of it if she was an only child or would she still experience the same levels of self-doubt?
i think she’d still be quite reserved and still have some issues about not being Enough for her parents, but some of the pressure would be gone. she’d only have abstract Expectations to hold herself to rather than constantly having to worry about how she stakes up against her two siblings and their success. she might have been more easy going when she was younger, let more of her own natural curiosity show through rather than just tagging along behind wren all the time, but once they got school-aged, i think her life would still follow a similar trajectory.

stevefknrogers replied to your post “how would gavyn and/or danee react to evan surreptitiously spending...”
lol gavyn. lol this whole family. tbh she's totally asking gavyn next time she can just picture rolling up to danee and having him be a little shit for the entirety of her stay. can't a girl just lounge in her boyfriend's shirt without the drama
ikr? bless them all, they’re Trying Their Best. xD but gavyn appreciates the asking and your cooperation on the matter :P
not in this household she can’t, sorry princess, now grab a towel and help with the dishes~ (”oh my god, you can’t make my girlfriend do the dishes” “she eats, she helps clean up! better go get the sink filling, mr. dishwasher.”)

how would gavyn and/or danee react to evan surreptitiously spending the night in austyn's bed without either of them knowing
gavyn would be torn between needing to deliver the parental-style smack down and wanting to lowkey fistbump him and be like, yeah, bro! but mostly i think he'd let it slide and just be like, ask next time, yeah? we probably won't say no.danee and his boyfriend who just make it their mission to embarrass the hell out of austyn in the morning tbh. if they found out in the middle of the night, they'd let them go back to bed with a ~we'll talk in the morning, and then just spend the entire morning being little shits until austyn finally manages to shuffle himself and evan out the door to freedom.

“You know cars?”
“So....that’s a funny story because I maybe kinda let your dad think I did? By accident! I was just telling him about our camper and how my dad didn’t like to use magic on it too much so whenever something happened we all took a turn looking in and then he mentioned he had something in his shed and”
“Take a few more deep breaths, Wren. You’re not breaking anything, are you?”
“Well, you know, I’m just trying to look cool and professional with this wrench and just like turning stuff and....I have no idea what I’m doing. Is your dad going to be okay? I mean, I was kinda hoping to try and impress him since I don’t think I stand a chance with your mum but not if I break this!”
“That thing’s been sitting there since my oldest brother left home. C’mere.”
“Are you sure?”
“Wren, my dad likes you already. It’s okay, sweetheart, come sit with me.”
“I maybe got oil on my shirt to make it authentic....”
“Then you might have to take it off?”
“Smart boys are my favourite.”

“Come on, Wren. Let’s do some drills, professional Quidditch player to potential professional.”
“Nope.”
“You’re really passing this chance up?”
“Yep. I’m waiting for Iris.”
“Don’t you spend every day at school with her?”
“Don’t you have your own flat?”
“Anyway, my point is I’ll get you up to speed, and I can pass your name along to my coach and others.”
“Pass. I’m not playing professional Quidditch.”
“You’re seriously going to waste talent like this?”
“I have other things to do.”
