In keeping with the trend of STALKER protagonists having extremely common, generic callsigns, 'Skif' is also a common personal callsign among Ukrainian soldiers currently defending their country. The name refers to Scythians, a nomadic people that lived in the region from 7th to 3rd century BC. If you wander long enough through Ukrainian language social media, you'll eventually find someone named Skif. Probably several.

'Skif' is also the name of a battalion, in this case part of the Lyut Brigade - Special Police Forces. Though technically a law enforcement wing, the realities of the invasion mean that they see front line combat.

'Skif' is also the name of an anti-tank guided missile (ATGM), also called a Stugna.

And in English, a skif is a type of boat.

So in the context of the war in Ukraine, it is entirely possible to have Skif, from Skif, launching a Skif, from a skif. Skifs all the way down.
