warnings: xiao has a autophobia [fear of the reader abandoning them/being alone], mentions xiao past, mentions of death. other than that, it's pretty much fully fluff!

notes: written for @xiaoslxt and @adalynn-is-lost's "fear" event! hope you all enjoy <3

i feel like xiao would be tough and emo all the time, but on some rare occations when he's alone with you, his cold facade would break and he'd become really clingy...

one particularly rainy day, you were at wangshu inn, cuddling with xiao. you knew that xiao disliked rainy days- they were a constant reminder that the other yaksha had died, leaving him remaining, alone, without anyone else to comfort him. it was days like this that you could feel his hold on your shoulder tightening.

he never truly admitted it, but... he was scared. terrified, even, of you leaving him, like how everyone else in the past has also left him. his master, the other yaksha... they all had faded away as time passed, leaving him alone.

"xiao... can i get up to get some water?" your voice comes out as a shock to the silence. he looks down at you, sleepy eyes fluttering open.

"...please don't go..." he whined, snuggling his head into the crook of your neck. "..don't go like everyone else did...."

you sighed. he was always like this, ever since he told you about how he'd lost everyone in the past. he had every right to be the way he was right now. "shh... its only for a little bit, i promise i'll only go for a minute..."

"if you're going, then i'm going with you." xiao pouted. you laughed, intertwining your fingers in his, taking your other hand to ruffle up his hair and then giving a small kiss.

"lets go, and i'll see if the chef can whip up some almond tofu for you."

when you came back from your little round trip around the wangshu inn, the rain had stopped so you and xiao went to the balcony. the sky was clear, and you could clearly see the beautiful sunset illuminate the sky in hues of blue, red, pink and orange, as you leaned your head onto xiao's shoulder.

"don't you dare leave me." you heard him say, his voice sounding strained and tight.

"i wouldn't dare dream of it," you replied, kissing the top of his head. "i promise i won't leave you for as long as im alive."

xiao held you closer, the unspoken questions looming over both of you - what if you weren't alive? what would happen then?

he sighed, basking in your warmth and cherishing the moment, but the thought of you dying still raced through. if he was a mortal, he would've been able to live every day with you. he'd be able to go with you.... and not stay forever alive, in a way that made his immortality seem like a curse. ha! as if it were ever a blessing to begin with... he laughed to himself. this curse of immortality only made him lose the ones he cherished with no end. he watched as your lean figure stood up and stood with your hands propped against the railing, a perfect silhouette against the sinking sun. he sighed, walked up and joined you, your figures decorating the setting sun.

"i'm not leaving anytime soon, dummy. it'll be a long day in hell until they can get me away from you."

This is a genshin impact collab

Everyone can join ! Just no smut for minor-coded members and no smut if you're a minor yourself !

If you have any specific triggers, let us know ! We'll help you pick a suitable number

You can write for up to 3 characters, but it's not a must. You may also switch which character you want to write for, add one/some (depending how many you're already writing for) or drop out altogether !

Latest dropout date will be 15th of June, 2022

The deadline will be 31st of July, 2022

You can post your finished work any time between the release of this collab and the deadline, just make sure to tag us so we can add it to the masterlist !

Your works can be character x character, reader insert or whatever you want them to be ! Just make sure you follow the given rules and tag everything accordingly

Additional Details/Rules:

Minimum word count is 500, no limits above

The genre/s is/are totally up to you ! Just incorporate your given fear somewhere, major or minor impact doesn't matter

Who's fear it is, is completely up to you

For the adults who plan to write smut: no works containing non-con, r*pe, p*dophilia

For any other nsft subjects (not limited to just smut, extreme angst like gore or violence also fall under this category) make sure you tag everything properly !

We also, in no way, aim to discriminate or make fun of of anyone who has any used fears !

this is an event for reading 600 notes! if you don't get what i mean by the title "i don't wanna die but i don't wanna live like this...", i'll explain in the next section :D

theme:

this collab's theme is about breakup! aha sorry if the title didn't make it clear-- but "breakup" is essentially the theme. that's to say, if you don't want to do a breakup, you can do a fight/argument and have fluff afterwards. also, if you want them to "break up" by having one of them die, you may do so, but please inform me first so i can mark yours accordingly. it's also something like a "heartbreak" theme? so yeah ^^

Things to know!

Because I have school, and the school device will be soon taken away, I might respond a little late, or not see your ask all for a for a few months

How to request!

When requesting please include: The lyrics to part of a song, the character, general genre of the fic [I will NOT be writing ANY smut however], if the relationship is platonic or romantic, and gender of the reader.

If the prompt is slightly suggestive (i.e. love bites) I might write it, but if its explicit or very suggestive, I won't write it.

I won't be writing for the children (Klee, Qiqi, Diona, Sayu) because I don't really know how to write for them yet
