“Aquaman.” Batman swept into the room, beelining straight for the suddenly apprehensive Atlantean king.

“Batman. What can I do for you?”

“Phantom. Does he pay taxes?”

“Pardon?”

Batman makes a low noise that had Aquaman’s danger senses buzzing.

“Does Phantom have to pay taxes. Towards Atlantis.”

“No…? Why?”

“He wanted money, in exchange for… information, of a delicate sort,” Batman said, diplomatically avoiding the topic of Phantom bargaining for the identities of corpses in exchange for a measly $100 dollars per identity. Like a flea market dealer, that one was.

“You encountered Phantom again?” Aquaman perked up.

“Yes. Gotham’s bay is… polluted.” Batman paused. “With victims. Of murder.”

The entire area quieted as heads turned towards the Dark Knight.

“Yes, I am… distantly aware of Gotham’s waters.” By that, Aquaman gets green around the gills whenever he turns his awareness in that direction. There’s a reason he doesn’t enter Gotham, and the Dark Knight’s ban is only half of that reason. “Ah, but you’re correct. For what purpose would Phantom need mortal currency?”

“Hn.”

“Maybe he needs some stuff?” Flash zipped to a stop next to Batman, feet tapping as he dug into the pile of snacks cradled in his arms. “Us mortals are always coming up with new things, maybe he wants to try some games or something?”

Batman tilted his head down, seriously considering Flash’s suggestion. “It’s plausible.”

“Barry, Barry, Barry. He’s old as hell, right? He probably wants to try the new booze!”

“Hal, my man!” Flash fist bumped Green Lantern, who came up. “You’re back! What happened to John?”

“Dunno. He got called somewhere that way,” Green Lantern waved a vague hand towards the left. “Had to deal with a politician or something from that area.” He shrugged, swinging an arm over Barry’s shoulders to put him in a headlock and stealing a chip.

“Huh. Anyways, would our mortal alcohol even work on a demi-god or something?”

“We should ask!” Hal turned towards Batman. “You should ask if he wants to go for a drink, spooky!”

“He’s a child.”

“He’s been around for more than a millennia, Bats.”

“Informational gathering, right, Hal?” Flashgot out of the headlock, quickly munching on his snacks to stop Green Lantern from stealing them.

“Totally. Yup.”

“…Fine.”

“Wait, are we just gonna ignore that Gotham’s waters are full of bodies?”

“Yes.”

“What?” Danny asked, mind half on the bags he’s dragging out of the water and the other half on the essay he has to submit in about four hours.

“Green Lantern wanted to invite you out for a drink.”

Danny turned to the stoic Gotham knight, who had his wrist computer out to log the bodies’ info the moment Danny gave him the information. Some of them even told Danny who murdered them, so Batman could start building cases with solid leads.

Danny’s only twenty. He’s not legal yet but he doesn’t want to give any clues to who he is. How is he supposed to…

“Can’t.” Danny shrugged. “I’m not legal. I died when I was fourteen so…�� Danny trailed off, speechless at the drowned puppy face Batman was giving him. What the fuck.

“Anyways, fork over my payment.”

Batman wordlessly hands him a wad of hundreds.

“What do you need cash for?” Batman suddenly asked.

“Huh? Isn’t it obvious?” Danny tucked it in. “Material things, obviously. I need a blanket,” because holy shit, Gotham is damn cold this time of year. “Anyways, see you same time next week, litterer.”

“I don’t litter.”

“Tell that to the batarangs I found under the water,” Danny grumbled. “But I’ll stop calling you that if you get a signature from Poison Ivy. I have a friend who loves her.”

“An alive friend?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know, weatherboy?”

Danny snickered and disappeared. He’s gotta cram that essay.

Chapter 3: A New Beginning

The atmosphere in the hangar shifted dramatically when Admiral Kazansky entered, his presence oozing authority. The members of the Hunter squad, who all had their fair share of intense situations, looked like they were barely holding back fits of laughter. Jake, on the other hand, wore a perfect blend of confusion and fear on his face. Alexa, sensing his unease, stepped forward and wrapped her arm around his waist, offering him comfort. Dean and Buck exchanged knowing glances, recognizing the warmth in their sister's eyes. Dean turned his attention to Jake.

"Lt. Seresin, firstly, welcome to the family. The Hunters would be honoured to have you. Now, Iceman over there has bailed my sorry ass out of some truly bizarre situations, most of which I was declared dead in. I'd strongly advise you to follow the next three steps. Step one, be honest with the Navy about what happened. Step two, consider getting a protective tattoo for yourself, and lastly, we need to get you trained up," Dean said, revealing a side of himself that was usually hidden beneath his tough exterior.

Jake took a deep breath to calm down. As he turned to look Iceman in the eyes to explain everything, a voice drew their attention to the door.

"So get this Ice. That lab you are having the Daggers bomb. It popped up overnight, and the writing on the wall is in a language I know of. I do, however, know someone who can read it."

"Winchester, what have I told you about tracking me down and just spilling information about classified operations?" Iceman said, glaring at the tall, Moose of a man.

"I remember telling you that you intimidate me about as much as an ice cube. My brother is scarier than you," the man said, looking him in the eye.

Ice had this look in his eyes that screamed he would break him. Dean looked proud for some reason.

"Sammy, you think I'm scary?" Dean said with a smile.

"Dean, you raised me from the age of four. I saw you trade your life for mine. Saw you have blood loss, be a demon, covered in blood and how you extract information in ways I didn't think possible. Only to remember if it's a method that you used, you lived through it. Most importantly, I saw your name alone strike fear into the enemy," Sam said as emotions flickered on his face. "And Dean, you need to get Cas down here like yesterday. Have him grab whoever Evan has here as well."

As Dean left the hangar, all eyes turned back to Hangman. The sudden return of attention had Lt. Jake Hangman Seresin on edge.

Could I get some bamf plant sam. Because if Sam got to keep some plant power I think she would be the dp universes version of poison ivy and danny would have a hard time dealing with her, or maybe undergrowth and her would be like trigon and raven.

"That's your Poison Ivy?!" Flash cried out in alarm. He jumped over a slashing vine and narrowly saved his own head from being decapitated. “And I thought Batman’s Poison Ivy was bad!”

Phantom smiled with a nod. "Yep! Isn't she great?" He went intangible to dodge a flower bomb and continued with a shout towards the figure standing in the midst of a flowery storm, "You're doing amazing, Sam!"

"Shut up!" She shouted back. Dressed in goth attire with BDSM-inspired accessories made of thorny vines, her monochrome face contrasted sharply against the bright and colorful floral. More vines came from the flower she was sitting on, accurately lashing out at the heroes around them.

Batman darted closer to Phantom. "Does she have any weaknesses?"

"None that you can make or find before she catches you!" Phantom said cheerfully.

Sam raised her hands and began to chant. Her vines thickened and turned a dark, twisted red, now growing faster and stronger as it grabbed and tightened around various heroes. Others wrapped around the perimeter in a thorny cage, flowers popping into existence and grass growing underneath their feet to slow everyone down further.

"She knows magic too?!?!" Flash cried out in despair, hovering over the air via jumping.

Phantom beamed. He was now completely trapped in flowering plants and growing plants. His teammates were similarly struggling against or captured by the plants. Phantom, however, was entirely unconcerned, though that might have also been because his restraints didn’t have thorns and no matter how much Sam was angry, she still didn’t hurt him.

“Isn’t this so fun, you guys? I’m so proud of her!” Phantom said, as another flower burst open and spewed pollen around them.

The remaining conscious Justice League looked at him like he was crazy.

“Phantom, can you please focus?!”

Ten pages worth of point 4 script, twenty three yards down, for why it's a BAD IDEA and breaks contract~!

i love how, we as Sam Girls, from different countries, race, background, ethnicities, watch Supernatural and invariably agree on these things...

His Carhartt jacket is just as iconic as Dean's leather jacket and we miss it.

Castiel��s brain short circuits- which is not easy to do since he is an angel- and if he had a heart that actually needed to beat to keep him alive, he probably would have dropped dead from shock as his eyes become laser focused on the man in front of him wearing satiny pink panties. He shuts the door a little harder than he should have, not really caring at that point if he was being quiet, which alerts Dean to his presence in the room. Dean straightens up and glances at Castiel with wide eyes, looking like a deer caught in headlights, and rushes to the bed to grab the pillow, covering himself with it. “Cas, don’t you know how to knock?” Dean asks, his voice cracking some as he speaks and his cheeks a little pinker than when Castiel saw him a little while ago. Castiel walks towards Dean, removing his trench coat and suit jacket as he goes, not caring where they land on the floor, Dean following the movement with a questioning expression. Dean doesn’t speak as Castiel steps closer and reaches for the pillow, but Dean backs away and just holds the pillow closer to himself. “Cas, what are you doing?” “I just want to look, Dean. Can I see, please?” Dean lowers his head to avoid looking Castiel in the eyes. “I don’t-I don’t want you to think of me differently. It’s why I haven’t let you see me naked yet. It’s embarrassing.” Castiel tilts Dean’s head up with his finger placed under the hunter’s chin. “Please don’t hide from me, Dean. You are stunning. I want to see all of you.”

Chapter 14: And Then, the Heavens Screamed

Powerful pulses rolled out across the ground in a steady rhythm as if the earth had turned into a giant living creature that breathed. Overhead, the storm clouds directly above the church began to split by some unseen force tearing them in two. The sky gaped open in precise, symmetrical lines, and the brilliant light that glowed from within was anything but natural.

Dean recognized that light in an instant—one of the Seraphim was charging a smite.

And not a simple smite, but the kind that didn't simply cleanse, but annihilated. A single, devastating strike that would leave behind nothing but a scorched crater and glassed earth. A divine nuke in every sense.

Sam barely registered the destruction. His gaze was drawn upward, mouth parting in disbelief, only now noticing the split sky Dean had watched earlier. Light finally broke through the clouds, falling down in searing beams so intense he had to raise a hand to shield his eyes. More and more poured out, threading and merging together, converging in a single, blinding column that gradually engulfed the ruined church.

The smite descended.

A shockwave detonated from the point of impact, tearing through space, bending the laws of nature until the very weaves of reality distorted. The world went white and soundless. Every window in every building and car blew up in a rain of glass. Trees splintered and broke. Lampposts crumpled like paper. People were tossed like ragdolls, some with inaudible cries, some silent forever, some with ruined eyes that would never see again.

Time stuttered and stopped. Everything was still.

Then, slowly, it restarted. The whiteness began to recede, colors flooded back, and the world righted itself. The sound returned as a cacophony of noise and screams and car alarms blearing all around. The light pillar narrowed, edges fraying into shimmering mist, until there was only a thin line left that retreated upward like a sword being withdrawn into the heavens. The clouds folded in, reforming over the rift as if nothing had ever happened.

Dean exhaled and pulled his grace back inward, releasing the shield that protected the Impala from the impact. Streets were turning chaotic, people were stumbling from buildings in panicked waves and running around, and he had to focus on the road.

"Oh my god…" Sam whispered, craning to look through the rare window again.

Nothing was left in the area they had just escaped from. Only a wide expanse of incinerated land, a few remaining structures charred and crumbling from the weakest breeze.

Dean glanced at it in the side mirror, quickly assessing the aftermath. All things considered, the smite was remarkably contained. Seraphim specialized in mass destruction and were capable of leveling entire cities without breaking a sweat. This strike, however, had been extremely precise, its firepower compressed into a tight, surgical burst.

Definitely not Uriel's style. And the other two Seraphs Dean had seen in the squad didn't seem strong enough to pull off something like that. Castiel, then.

His lips twitched into a faint, knowing smile. Yeah, it fit. Castiel, still trying to minimize collateral damage, even in a desperate fight against the Throne. Still the soldier with a conscience.

Chapter 2: "Triplets, Toothpicks, and Tangled Past"

 

The golden rays of the morning sun gently woke Jake up. Slowly, he moved to the edge of the bed, stretching his tired muscles, still protesting from the dancing they had done last night.

 

Swearing in a muttering voice, he stood up, grumbling about being an idiot who had, for the second time, forgotten to close the curtains. This have to be the last thoughtless mistake he makes. He has a chance to fix a couple of things. Things that one small slip can make worse. 

 

Shuffling into the kitchen, he started to join the world, his actions on autopilot as he started to make his coffee.

 

As the water heated up, his mind began to wander. In addition to the uranium mission, he had a personal mission to accomplish: fixing Mav and Roo's bond. Bringing the Mitchell-Bradshaw family together again. He always wondered how they got from Maverick and Goose being brothers to Carol making Mav promise to pull Roo's papers. The one thing that split the last of the family for over a decade.

 

Still feeling the burn in his muscles from last night's dancing, he couldn't shake the memory of the broken look on Pops' face. The first notes of that familiar song Roo always played had drifted into the air after their dance-off had stopped. In that moment, Pops had lost all colour in his face, and the joy that had been there was replaced by hopelessness and heartbreak. That song and its player turned him into a shell of a man. In the end, he had to promise Penny to drive Mav home safely that night. Jake never wanted to witness that look on Pops' face again.

 

Today was different, though. The start of a different, better time. The hangover and nervousness from the last time were missing. Instead, Jake felt excitement for the day ahead. 

 

After getting ready for class, he reached for a toothpick. Long gone were the days when the toothpick in his mouth had been part of his Hangman image. Now, it was a source of comfort, a small piece of nostalgia that he had a feeling he was going to need.

 

Jake arrived at the base and made his way to the class. The base buzzed with activity as personnel went about their duties, each step resonating with a sense of purpose, an undercurrent of anticipation in the air. As he entered the classroom, he couldn't help but wonder how the altered course of events would play out today, both in his personal mission and the larger mission involving uranium.

 

The challenge of changing the past weighed heavily on him, but Jake was determined to make things right this time, to mend what had been broken. And as he settled into his seat, he couldn't shake the feeling that today held the promise of a significant change, a chance that he might not be ready for. Jake was so lost in thought he almost missed Warlock introducing Maverick.

 

"Now that you have your teacher I want to introduce the Navy's greatest three person team. We call them the triplets. The only team the Navy's ignored the sibling rule for. Meet the Hunter squad, Captain Dean "Ghost" Winchester, Captain Alexander "Chaos" Winchester, Captain Evan "Reaper" Winchester. They will be helping Maverick train you."

 

Before Jake could stop himself he yelled "Crap, I'm dating my teacher." He looked up to see everyone looking at him in shock. "Hi, Ally. I'm glad you're back." He said with a blush and small smile.

 

As everyone settled Maverick started his lesson. Just after throwing the F-18's manual out, pulling the pilot's attention to him. He started to brief the pilots on the mission when a frustrated Admiral Kazansky marched into the hangar.

 

"Lt. Seresin, can you please explain to me why you like the Hunters have two files? And while you're at it what happened in Texas three months ago that led to you getting stitched up on your arm after originally having been declared dead? I know Chaos was involved." He demanded with an icy glare, showing both why he is called Iceman and a great Admiral.

FIC REC WEEK 47 – CANON DIVERGENCE

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: RiotFalling

What RiotFalling excels at, in my opinion, is Bucky and Tony's intricate inner monologue. Their descriptions of what each character is going through at any given moment really get under my skin. And on top of that, RiotFalling's voices for them are hilarious – their banter makes my entire day every time I read one of their fics.

Summary: It’s not just the cabin that’s under construction, it’s Tony and Bucky and this thing between them that was supposed to be temporary and is seeming less and less so as time goes on.

Reasons why I love it: This fic cleansed my pores, watered my crops, paid my taxes. It gave me everything I love – hilarious banter, Dom/Sub goodness, shmoopy smut, it's all so incredibly satisfying to read. I love it more than I can say, and I really hope you give it a shot if you haven't already.

I had no choice (but baby to get it right)

Summary: After all those years of furtively dreaming about it, reading everything from scientific papers to romance novels, after all the times he told himself not to but still hoped, Tony thought he knew what to expect if this day ever came. Finally, after all this time, all the worrying and wondering and telling himself to just give up already, he finally meets his soulmate and finds out what all the hype is about, and it has to be like this. It just has to be Barnes.

Reasons why I love it: Aaaah, this fic is everything! The inner monologue is perfection, both Tony's and Bucky's feelings and thoughts feel so real, I'm in awe. And the ending puts the biggest smile on my face. Also, there's fantastic art by Sagana_Rojana_Olt in here, which you definitely don't want to miss out on!

Pairing: Bucky/Tony Rating: T Words: 4,499 Tags: Bodyguard Bucky, Valentine's Day, Mutual Pining

Summary: So maybe three years in Bucky is completely in love, and this might be his first bodyguard gig but he's pretty sure that's breaking Rule One. It's definitely one of the top five rules, at the very least. He can't even be surprised with himself either, not when it's Tony. Bucky’s job is basically to hang out with his crush all the time, and sure sometimes he gets shot or stabbed or has to physically drag Tony out of his lab when he starts sleep-deprived-rambling about building some piece of tech from a scifi movie, but most days Bucky doesn't have a single thing to complain about. And then there's Valentine's Day.

Reasons why I love it: This is the cutest fucking thing, oh my god, I love it. All of Tony's friends obviously being in on his plan just makes it even better. If you need some good vibes today, definitely check this one out, it's amazing!

Summary: Making friends is not something Bucky thought he’d be doing after all these years, but here he is, taking a risk. On himself, on Tony, on everything, it seems. Tony is... unused to being happy. That’s not to say he IS happy, but the feeling residing in his chest these days feels a lot more like happiness than anxiety. It’s fine. Everything is fine. Right?

Reasons why I love it: RiotFalling and WhiteIronWolf do a fantastic job with the two perspectives in this fic. I love the therapy session in the beginning, it really suits Bucky's character, and it's amazing to see how well he's doing for himself. And of course, Sam is the best bro, I love him. This fic is wonderful, and you should definitely read it!

Those Three Words (Let Me Help)

Pairing: Bucky/Tony Rating: M Words: 21,267 Tags: Flashbacks, Bucky Needs a Hug, Angst

Summary: Something is wrong. It’s all wrong and Bucky just wants— He hurts and he can’t— it wasn’t supposed to be like this. This isn’t how Tony thought his Friday would be going, but he’s going to do whatever he can to help. Even when things go further off plan than he ever expected.

Reasons why I love it: The way this fic is written really got under my skin, especially the beginning. It's visceral and raw and left me with a lingering sense of dread, it's amazing. RiotFalling and WhiteIronWolf really outdid themselves here! I hope you give this one a shot, because it's amazing.
