Meant To Be - Chapter 3
Dean and Jordan are each trying to escape their painful pasts. Their chance meeting and a dangerous encounter begins a relationship that may give them both a new start.
Pairing: Police Detective Dean Winchester/Jordan Taylor
Word Count: 2038
Warnings: None.
Aesthetic by @editsbymichele on Instagram; Dividers by @firefly-graphics
Tumblr media
Jordan rolled over and shut off her alarm, yawning and stretching. The last few days had been a whirlwind, but she was starting to get used to waking up in her new surroundings. Donna’s apartment was bright and sunny, pretty much like the woman herself. She had welcomed Jordan with open arms, literally, and immediately installed her in the second bedroom, down the hall from Donna’s room.
After taking a week to settle in, at Sam’s insistence, she was ready to start her new job at Winchester Law. Sam was picking her up in a couple of hours to get her acquainted with the office and do all the annoying paperwork involved, so she climbed out of bed and headed for the shower. As she got ready to step in, she remembered that her tiny sample shampoo had run out the morning before, and she sighed, grabbing a towel to wrap around herself as she headed out to look for her new roomie.
She walked into the living room as she called out,  “Hey, Donna, do you have any shampoo I could borr…” The front door swung open as she was in mid-sentence, and Dean walked in, stopping dead in his tracks as he saw her. “Oh…shit.” Jordan clutched the towel around herself a little tighter, blushing to the roots of her hair. “Dean. Hi. I’m so embarrassed right now.”
Dean, however, looked incredibly pleased with himself, a slow grin spreading across his face, his eyes full of mischief. “Don’t be embarrassed on my account. I’m good.”
“Dean Winchester!” Donna’s voice scolded as she rushed by Jordan and directly over to her partner, turning him around and shoving him to the door. “What are you doing in here?”
Dean turned his head, a confused scowl on his face as he was forced into the hall. “What?! I always come in when I pick you up… coffee...”
“Go back to the car and wait for me, I’ll bring your coffee. You can’t just walk in here now, I’m not the only one who lives here, Dean. For Pete’s sake!”
“Sorry! For fuck’s sake, stop shoving me!” He turned around to grin at Jordan again. “It was really nice to see you, Jordan,” he said with a wink as Donna slammed the door closed in his face. They could hear his laughter as he headed down the hall, and in spite of her embarrassment, Jordan couldn’t smother a little smile.
“That man! I’m so sorry,” Donna apologized. “He has always just let himself in and got his coffee here, but I’m always up, dressed and ready to go before he gets here and it’s just a habit. I didn’t even think about it.”
Jordan shook her head. “Not your fault, I shouldn’t be wandering around in a towel. I just forgot my little bottle of shampoo ran out yesterday. Can I borrow some until I can get to the store?”
“Oh, honey, help yourself to anything you need from my shower! When I get home tonight, we’ll make a run to the store, get you stocked up.” She put a hand on Jordan’s shoulder. “I’m really sorry – are you okay?”
Jordan smiled, her cheeks still flushed pink. “I’m fine. I’ll just probably never hear the end of this.”
Donna nodded, her dimples showing, a sparkle in her eyes. “Oh, yeah, count on it. He’ll never let this one go. Well, I’d better get going. I’ll see you tonight.”
Tumblr media
Dean shoved his desk drawer closed a little harder than necessary, and his partner shot him a look, shaking her head. “What? I hate desk duty.”
“Oh, I know. Which is why you have such a pile of paperwork there. Why don’t you just settle in and do it, get caught up while we’re stuck in here.”
He glared at Donna, then at the pile of papers on the corner of his desk. “Hate paperwork,” he muttered under his breath as he grabbed a handful of unfinished reports and opened his laptop.
“Just think how good it’ll feel to get all of that work finished and out of your hair.” Donna smiled, unfazed by the baleful look Dean shot her way.
“Leave it to me to get Miss Mary Sunshine as my partner,” he grumbled, and Donna’s smile grew wider.
“You’re welcome,” she grinned back at him, then went to work on her own stack.
Tumblr media
Jordan jumped as a knock echoed through the apartment, rushing to the door and peering through the peephole. “Sam! Oh, Sam, you didn’t have to come up here and get me! I thought you’d just text me or something.”
Sam smiled, his dimples winking as he stepped inside. “I thought I could at least come up the first time I picked you up. Didn’t want to just sit outside and blow the horn.” Jordan laughed, grabbing her jacket from the couch.
“Ok, I guess I’m ready. I wasn’t sure how to dress...” She had debated for an hour, finally putting on a pair of dress slacks and a blouse, and she looked up at Sam for his approval.
“You could honestly wear whatever you want, I usually wear jeans. Whatever makes you comfortable, it doesn’t matter to me. In fact, a lot of the time you can probably just work from home if you want, after we get the office organized again. It’s kind of a disaster right now, sorry.”
“We’ll get it all sorted out, no worries. Once you fill me in on your filing system and how you want things done, I’ll get it taken care of.” She smiled up at him, ever amazed at how tall the man was. “Well, boss, we’re losing daylight.”
“Great. I hired a slave driver,” he teased, and they made their way out of the apartment together.
Tumblr media
Jordan flopped onto the sofa with a satisfied smile, letting her head drop back as she let her mind wander over her day. There really was a lot of organizing to do in Sam’s office, due to his lack of help for the last few weeks, but she had made a pretty good dent. After this week, she could probably work out of the apartment most days, maybe go in one day a week to do filing and such. Sam was such an easy-going guy, he was going to be a dream to work for. And his fiance, Sarah, was so nice – she had stopped in during the day, and they hit it off right away.
Her phone rang and she grabbed it, smiling as she saw Dean’s name. “Hope that new boss of yours isn’t too much of an asshole,” he teased.
“Oh, he’s terrible! Even meaner than his brother.”
Dean laughed. “Yeah, I hear he’s a real jerk.”
“Well, nobody’s perfect,” she giggled in reply. “So what’s up, Detective Winchester?”
“Donna and I wondered if you’d be interested in going out for a couple of beers, maybe some pub food? Then we can stop off at the store so you can pick up what you need.”
“That sounds great – what time?”
“We’ll be there in about – 45 or so? If you can be ready by then.”
“No problem, I’ll be waiting, just give me a yell and I’ll come down.”
“Awesome. See you later.”
She sighed happily as she laid her phone back down, letting her eyes close for a moment. Dean’s face was right there, his eyes shining as he smiled at her, and she silently scolded herself. He wasn’t interested in her like that, and she needed to get a grip on her feelings before they carried her away. He was just a friend, and daydreaming about him wasn’t going to get her anywhere. “Slow your roll, Jordan,” she told herself firmly, then got up and went to her room to change.
Tumblr media
Dean drove to Dooley’s Pub, the normal watering hole he and Donna frequented. It was a cop-friendly bar, the owner was a retired police sergeant, and he called out a greeting to them as they walked in. The three of them grabbed a table, ordered a round of beers and started chatting about their day, munching pretzels from the bowl the waitress had dropped off. “So, how was it working for my brother?” Dean asked, and Jordan smiled.
“He’s going to be an awesome boss. I think we’re gonna get along great. How was desk duty today?”
Dean rolled his eyes, and Donna laughed. “You should have heard him whining all day, you’d think they made him clean the toilets or somethin’.”
“I wasn’t that bad,” he fired back, and his partner shook her head, then looked at Jordan.
“He was like an overgrown three-year-old, Jordan. Don’t let him fool ya. He can pout with the best of ‘em.”
Jordan grinned. “Awwww… it’s only for two weeks.”
Dean huffed out a frustrated sigh. “Two weeks is gonna drive me insane.”
“Short trip,” Donna quipped, and the girls laughed again, Dean failing to completely smother the smile teasing at the corners of his mouth.
“All right, all right – just for that, I’m gonna kick your ass at darts.”
“Oooh, I’ll play the winner – or the loser. Whatever,” Jordan offered, and they moved over near the dart board.
Dean easily beat Donna, and she punched him in the shoulder as she moved back to the table. “Go get ‘im, Jordan. Somebody needs to wipe that cocky smile off his face,” she teased.
“Yeah, that’s probably not gonna happen, but… I’ll do what I can,” Jordan answered, taking the darts from Dean’s hand.
“After you,” he offered with a sweep of his hand, and Jordan stepped up, taking aim. The first dart hit the floor, and he laughed as she swore under her breath. The second barely hung on to the board, finally falling out as her third buried itself in the wall beside the dart board.
“Epic fail.” She shook her head with disgust, and Dean went to retrieve her darts.
“Okay, let’s call that practice. Here…” He reached towards her, then stopped, looking into her eyes. “Is it okay if I...”
“Yes, please, help,” she laughed. He laid his darts on the table and turned towards her, and her breath caught in her chest as he gripped her hips in his hands, turning her slightly to adjust her stance.
“Now, when you throw, you should kind of snap your wrist to give it a little more speed.” He made adjustments to her arm and her grip on the dart, and she was beginning to wonder if she’d have the presence of mind to throw the damn thing when he was finished touching her. “Okay, give it a try.”
She glanced up at him and nodded, then focused her eyes on the board. The first two landed in halfway decent spots, and the third buried itself right next to the bullseye. She cheered and turned to throw her arms around his neck in an excited hug, then backed away, blushing. “Sorry, I just never thought I’d get it!”
Donna was grinning as she watched them. “You got it, girl! A little practice and you’ll be kicking his ass!”
They played their game, Dean winning, of course, and Jordan finished the last of her beer before heading to the bathroom. “I suppose, if we’re stopping at the store, we should take off. We all have to work tomorrow. But first – the little girls’ room.” She plopped her glass back on the table and took off, and Dean sat down, finishing the Coke he had switched to since he was driving.
“So…” Donna said, a knowing smirk on her face.
“So… what?” Dean’s confused frown made her giggle.
“I saw you. You’ve got a thing for her.”
“What?”
“You heard me.”
“Look, I was just helping her with...”
“Save it, partner. You are falling for her, and she’s definitely into you, so what the hell are you waiting for?”
Dean dropped his head and glared at her from under his frowning brow, the dimples above his mouth deepening. “Shut up.”
Donna laughed softly, complying with his request for the time being since Jordan was headed back their way. “All right, you two – let’s hit the road.”

Tumblr media
“Are we lost?”
“No.”
“I think we are.”
“Shh! Gandalf’s thinking.”
“Merry?”
“What?”
“I’m hungry.” Pippin and Merry whispered between each other. They were sat opposite each other, their voices flowing through the space. Sam was sat up against one of the rocks near Frodo. Gandalf had perched himself upon a rock. He lifted a pipe to and from his lips, blowing out smoke when necessary. You were sat beside Boromir, who was beside Aragorn. Legolas was stood, his back leaned against rock, close to Aragorn.
“I miss home.” You mentioned. Boromir smiled, wrapping an arm around your shoulders and pulling you gently into his side.
“After the journey, we will return. We will drink and feast and celebrate. And everything will go back to normal.” He assured and you gave a small smile. Though, you were unsure of whether you wanted that to be your reality when you were to finish the journey. You had quite enjoyed the thought of travelling with Aragorn and then when his time had come… Well, you had not thought that far just yet. Anyway, this was all hypothetical, of course, as it had much started to dawn on you that you might not get the chance to return. Luck had been on your side thus far but for how long would it continue to come to your aid?
Legolas noticed the worried look that fell over your features and his brows drew together, wishing that he could read your mind to know what troubled you. He was about to pull you to the side to ask how you were when Gandalf let out a loud noise.
“It’s that way.” He pointed with his eyes, a smile tugging at his lips as he looked at Frodo who was sat beside him.
“He’s remembered!” Merry said with a grin, pulling the pipe from his lips. He pushed himself to his feet.
Gandalf stood with the aid of his staff. “No, but the air doesn’t smell so foul down here. If in doubt, young Meriadoc, always follow your nose.” He led the way, holding his staff up so that the light exuding from it would reveal more of the path. Legolas held back to walk with you. You smiled at him and he returned it. Each member of the Fellowship stepped down the decreasing concrete.
“Let me risk a little more light.” Gandalf muttered. His staff brightened the way. “Behold, the great realm, the dwarf city of Dwarrowdelf.”
Your lips parted almost immediately in awe, breath drawing from your throat. There were pillars hundreds of feet tall, all so intricately designed and decorated. Somehow amongst the darkness all of the stone seemed to turn from a dull grey to a shimmering silver. Dips and grooves were so perfectly sculpted that it seemed surreal.
“Well, there’s an eyeopener, make no mistake.” Sam said. His eyes were glistening with wonder as well as everyone else’s.
“It’s beautiful.” You whispered. It seemed as if the words were forced from your mouth. There was so much beauty and brilliance in the world that you had yet to see; the sort of the thing that excited you.
It did not excite you for long, however. Once you had been walking for a while again, Gimli paused. His eyes quickly scanned over skeletons leading to a room. He took an audible breath, running into the room. Your eyes widened and you quickly followed him. Your heart ached at the sight of him. His face was stained with more tears, his eyes flooded. His wails were unforgettable. A series of sobs left his lips, his chest heaving up and down as you gently placed a hand on his shoulder. You could feel tears begin to pool in yours eyes. You had not noticed that the others had joined you until the sound of extra footsteps echoed off of the walls.
“Here lies Balin, son of Fundin, Lord of Moria.” The wizard took a breath. You moved away from Gimli, standing beside Legolas with a small sniffle. “He is dead, then. It is as I feared.” He handed his things to Pippin, delicately moving a skeleton to pick up a dusty book that it had been holding, once. A shiver ran all the way up your spine, your skin prickling in goosebumps. You snapped your head around to look through the door behind you, anxiety growing within your frame.
“I have a bad feeling about this place.” You hissed into the elf’s ear and he nodded, leaning into Aragorn’s ear slightly.
“We must move on. We cannot linger.”
Gandalf turned the page. “They have taken the bridge, and the second hall. We have barred the gates but cannot hold them for long. The ground shakes. Drums. Drums in the deep.” He turned the page. “We cannot get out. Shadow moves in the dark. We cannot get out. They are coming—”
Suddenly a loud noise captivated the attention of everybody. The noise came from beside Pippin, who was stood looking extremely guilty beside a headless body. Before you knew it, the body fell flimsily down the hole beside it and the weight that it was attached to quickly followed. If you wanted not to be noticed then perhaps bringing Pippin along was not the right idea, for the noises echoed loudly around the space. After a little while of silence, Boromir let out an audible breath of relief.
“Fool of a took!” Gandalf snapped, tossing the book to the floor. “Throw yourself in next time and rid us of your stupidity.” He snatched back his staff and hat and Pippin looked to the floor.
There was a faint bang in the distance. If anyone’s eyes had wondered, they were now firmly back on the hobbit. Breathing was audible from everyone in the room. You looked worriedly at Boromir, he, too, looked anxious. Your breath quickened, turning around to face the door but turning back when Sam spoke.
“Mister Frodo…” At his words, Frodo pulled out his sword which was glowing blue. Your eyes widened at the sight. He had told you before that his Uncle Bilbo had gifted it to him before he left Rivendell. It glowed blue if there were—
“Orcs.” Legolas confirmed at the overwhelming sound of energetic screams and shouts. Boromir turned, running to the door.
“Boromir!” You warned, gasping sharply when two arrows landed not even an inch away from his face, protruding out from the door. Sprinting to him, you helped him shove the door closed. You could make out Aragorn saying something to the hobbits over the vicious pumping of your heart. Instinctively you turned your back to the door, holding it shut whilst Legolas threw an axe to you. It threaded through the handle of the door kindly and you stepped away from the door slowly, pulling out your knives. The door began to wave outwards and inwards, like it was victim to an angry storm. Weapons were cutting through the wood at speed and soon enough the doors caved to the Orcs’ will. They came flooding through the space like they were on a water current. Legolas and Aragorn shot their arrows but there were too many. They continued to pour through until they reached you.
With a roar, you brought your knife up to counter a sword, plunging your other into the face of your attacker. You dodged an oncoming axe, dropping the floor to swipe its legs before heaving its own weapon into its chest. Swiftly you sliced through the flesh of one’s neck, spinning to punch another before you stabbed it in the heart; if they had hearts, that is, you did not really know. Your fingers tightened around the hilts of your knives, searching around. You quickly sheathed your knives, picking up an axe from one of those that you just killed. As you made for one about to attack Boromir from behind, you swung the axe over your head, burying it deep inside its skull. The body fell to its knees and you struggled to pull the weapon out, forcefully kicking the body to release the axe. Shouting, swinging at one’s knees before slicing its head clean from its body.
You shielded your face as rocks came flying from where the door was once. Sheer horror smacked you in the face at the sight of a cave troll. It had chains around its neck and a huge mallet in its hand. It came bounding right up to Sam after Legolas shot an arrow into the centre of its chest.
“Sam!” You cried, breathing as he managed to crawl out of the way. When you turned around, an Orc landed a punch straight to your nose. You fell, startled, wincing slightly at the pain. Your eyes widened as it swung its axe towards your head. With barely inches between you and the blade, you managed to roll out of the way. Suddenly the Orc let out a cry of pain, and you used the opportunity to ram your knives into each of its legs before pulling one out and driving it into its chest. When it fell to the floor, you managed to take a quick glance at the body. There was an arrow sticking out of the fleshy part of the side. A small smile tugged on your lips amongst the madness, your eyes searching.
Your smile faded when your gaze landed on Legolas. The troll swung its chain at him with ferocity, causing rocks to fall from the pillars and the walls.
“Legolas!” You screamed his name, tears in your eyes. He managed to swerve from all of the troll’s attacks. You did not see much of what happened next, for the number of Orcs seemed to increase again, but you cut down all of the Orcs that came your way with much frustration, the tears of worry in your eyes turning to those of anger.
When you next got a chance to look at the troll, it was attacking Frodo, Merry and Pippin. You began to make your way towards them, lunging at each creature that came to attack you, carving into their skin as if they were meat for dinner. The cave troll grabbed Frodo by his foot, and you called to him, raising the aggressiveness of your attacks unintentionally, frustration consuming your entire body. Frodo managed to slice something from the hand of the troll, giving Aragorn the chance to stick a spear just under its breast. It smacked Aragorn to the side and he hit a rock before his body tumbled lifelessly to the floor. Frodo desperately tried to run around the troll but to no avail. The troll pushed the spear into the hobbits chest.
A sob was forced from your throat, your chest heaving for breath. Merry and Pippin jumped on the troll, stabbing at its neck relentlessly. It managed to shake Merry off, dropping him to the floor from a height. Gimli ran at it, attempting to smack it with his axe but got kicked to the side. As you screamed, your knives tore and shredded through its thick skin. You swung an axe from the ground up to land firmly in the back of it. Legolas drew an arrow, aiming carefully before shooting it. The arrow buried itself in its mouth. It let out a noise. Then it fell to the ground, spreading the dust over the other bodies that lay there.
It took you no time at all to run to where Frodo’s and Aragorn’s bodies were. A few tears fell down your cheeks while you sprinted. You sighed in relief to see Aragorn crawling toward the hobbits body, but you frowned, noticing that Frodo still had not moved. The lump in your throat grew. Your breathing felt restricted, a small sob falling from your lips. Aragorn rolled Frodo’s body over into his lap.
A series of groans came from the mouth of the hobbit and your eyes widened, thinking that your ears had deceived you. The hobbit was stabbed, surely, he was dead! But Sam ran to your side, taking a deep breath before he looked to the rest of the Fellowship.
“He’s alive.” He confirmed. Everyone seemed to breathe at that.
“I’m alright. I’m not hurt.” Said Frodo, clutching his chest.
You smiled. “But how?”
“I think there is more to this hobbit than meets the eye,” Gandalf suggested with a knowing look. When you looked back towards Frodo, he pulled the fabric of his undershirt down, revealing a glimmering white chainmail material.
“Mithril.” Gimli whispered, a smile on his face. You are full of surprises, Master Baggins.” Y stood, laughing breathily before turning to those behind you. Your gaze landed on Boromir and you smiled, wiping a bit of blood from his cheek comically. He chuckled, engulfing you in a hug. He gently pressed his lips to your to the top of your head and you smiled. Boromir left you to check on Merry and Pippin and you turned to Legolas, smiling.
“I was worried for you, mellon nin.” You avoided his gaze.
“And I for you.” He said. You could hear the smile on his face when he spoke, and your smile widened. You were about to say something else when more manic screams and shouts were heard, identical to the ones that were heard before the Orcs attacked you. Your eyes widened, turning to Gandalf.
“To the bridge of Khazad-Dum.”
And with that the Fellowship took off down the stony halls of Moria. You were all sprinting at full speed. It was a little surprising that the hobbits could keep up, but they had proven many times by now that they could hold their own and should never be underestimated. Screams echoed behind you and you turned to look, slowing when you noticed how many Orcs there were. This was a battle you were destined to lose. Fingers wrapped firmly around your wrist and you snapped your head forward again to see Boromir holding to you with one of his arms, pulling you along. Orcs started to pop up out of the floor and crawl down from the ceiling and quite quickly it was easy to see that there were way too many of them to even fathom fighting. The Fellowship slowed to a stop and you created a circle, pulling your knives from their sheaths and staring down the Orcs that surrounded you. The circle seemed to get smaller and smaller and soon you were shoulder to shoulder with Legolas and Boromir. The Orcs smiled maniacally at you. You took a sharp breath, ready to lunge at them when a very loud rumbling noise came from the end of the corridor.
Immediately, the Orcs turned frail, squeaking with fear and soon they scattered off just as quickly as they had appeared. You were alone again. The noise reverberated through the halls.
“What is that?” Somehow you had the nerve to ask the question.
“A Balrog. A demon of the ancient world.” You watched Legolas’ eyes widen slightly at the wizard’s words and you swallowed dryly. “This foe is beyond any of you. Run!”
Gandalf made for the opening that you had all meant to go down originally, the rest of you darting to the end of the hall to keep up with him. He stopped at the open archway, allowing the others in front of him. You ran just behind Legolas and Boromir was now leading the way. He moved down the newly presented set of stairs, not noticing the empty chasm that lay before his feet. He wobbled on the very edge, dropping his torch down the space as Legolas lunged forward, wrapped his arms around his chest and pulled him back.
Behind you, Gandalf clutched hold of Aragorn’s shoulder. “Lead them on, Aragorn. The bridge is near.” When Aragorn tried to help him, he pushed on his shoulder, forcing him away. “Do as I say! Swords are no more use here.” You raced down the numerous flights of stone stairs until you came to a halt. A part of the staircase was missing. Legolas jumped over it carelessly, landing perfectly on the other side. He held his hand out to you. You took a breath before leaping over the disparity, grabbing his hand tightly as he safely pulled you into his chest.
“Gandalf.” He gestured for the wizard to come next. Gandalf jumped and you gasped as an arrow missed your face by just a few inches. Legolas frowned, aiming and shooting, his arrow hitting the Orc archer right between the eyes. You ushered Boromir down and he nodded, grabbing Merry and Pippin before diving over the gaping chasm. You caught Merry in your arms, setting him down with a head pat before Aragorn tossed Sam to you. Catching him, you gently set him down beside Merry whilst Legolas dealt with Gimli. Once Gimli joined you, however, the rock that Frodo and Aragorn were still perched on began to crumble. You gasped, squeezing Boromir’s hand in anxiety as you watched. A huge roar echoed from where you had just come from, causing the archway to shake and break. A large piece of stone plunged from the ceiling, crashing down onto the very staircase that the man and the hobbit were situated on. Your heart stuttered as the rock destroyed what was in its way, falling into the abyss below. The stem of the staircase broke.
“Be careful!” You cried, biting your lip so hard it pooled with blood. Aragorn pulled a very terrified Frodo into his chest. You watched with complete anxiety yet confusion; you could see that the man was calculating something.
“Lean forward!” He instructed to the Ring-Bearer and as the two did so, the faulty staircase began to lean under their weight. Slowly, it moved towards the stable one, crashing into it and you let out a breath with Frodo in your arms. All you wanted was to sit and hug him and make sure that he knew everything was going to be alright – even though you weren’t entirely sure it would be – but you knew that could not happen. Legolas had safely caught Aragorn and the next thing you knew, the ten of you were rapidly rushing down the numerous flights of trembling stairs.
Eventually you got to flat ground but none of you stopped running. Your thoughts wandered to Gandalf, wondering if it was wise that he should be running like this, for it seemed he was far too tired even earlier.
The bridge was near. “Over the bridge! Fly!” Little attention was paid to the roaring fires acting as gates toward it. Whilst everyone ran, Gandalf made sure to lack behind and just as he turned around, slowly, a giant creature emerged from the fire. It had black tattered skin and horns, terrible teeth and bright white eyes. Its mouth opened, and it created sound unlike any other on Middle-Earth, its mouth mirroring hot embers. Gandalf turned once it had taken a step, fleeing towards the group of you who also began to scurry away from the creature. You sprinted, heart jolting each time you heard – and felt – the Balrog take a step. In single file, ushering the hobbits in front of you, you crossed the bridge. Boromir held you for a moment once you had crossed, making sure that you were alright before he let go, eyes widening at the sight of Gandalf still in the centre of the bridge.
“You cannot pass.” Gandalf yelled, facing the beast with his staff out in front of him, his long sword settled in his other hand.
“Gandalf!” Frodo screamed. You inhaled sharply, eyes filling with tears in worry. Aragorn squeezed your hand gently as the beast stood tall, erupting into a ball of flame.
“I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udun!” A great light emitted from Gandalf’s staff when he held it up, but the Balrog created a weapon of his own. A flash of lightning spewed from the connection of Gandalf’s staff and the Balrog’s sword of flame. You grasped Aragorn’s hand tighter, feeling all of the moisture from your mouth dissipate. The sword melted down into the abyss and the creature moaned ferociously at the wizard once again. “Go back to the shadow.” He said behind hooded eyes. It stepped toward him, creating a fiery whip which he cracked against the stone.
“You shall not pass!” As his voice echoed, Gandalf thrust his staff into the stone, white sparks flying from the collision. The beast raised his arm, stepping mightily towards to wizard, but the stone crumbled under its weight. He plummeted into the abyss. You let out a breath you did not know you were holding. Gandalf turned to step towards you.
However, as he did so, an orange-yellow string secured itself around his ankle, pulling him across the stone until he barely hung from the edge.
You gasped, shaking your head incredulously. “No…” Frodo ran for him. Boromir grabbed him, holding him close before he could reach. Your eyes were wide with anguish, Frodo’s screams painfully ringing in your ears.
“Gandalf!”
He looked amongst you. “Fly, you fools.” Was all he said before he spread his fingers out, giving in, and he fell. Tears pooled in your eyes, an aching sensation pounding in your chest, throughout your entire body. A few choked sobs escaped you whilst Aragorn, still latched to your hand, pulled you along, shielding you from the many arrows that were being shot your way. The final set of steps lay in front of you, and as Aragorn gently dragged you along, you found yourself looking back, filled with a sorrow that everyone was experiencing.
Upon exiting Moria, you found that Boromir was holding back Gimli, from going in there and no doubt trying to murder the Balrog that had taken Gandalf. Sam was sat on his own, crying into his hand. Pippin was sprawled out on the floor in pain, Merry holding onto him, both of them with tears gushing down their faces. If your heart was not already broken from the loss, it certainly was shattered now from the melancholy faces that lay before you. Slowly, you made your way over to Sam, resting a gentle hand on his shoulder as you knelt beside him. He looked up and threw his arms around your body, sobbing silently into your shoulder. You closed your eyes, tears streaming, hugging him as tightly while he clung to you.
Legolas looked around, it seemed as if for the first time that he was unsure of what to do. His chest ached, even harder when his eyes landed upon you, and how you quickly swiped your tears away before talking to Sam, wanting to be strong for him and the other hobbits.
Aragorn cleaned his sword with his clothes. “Legolas, get them up.” He came close to you and Sam and you shook your head gently.
“Leave them.” You sniffed.
“Give them a moment, for pity’s sake!”
“By nightfall, these hills will be swarming with Orcs. We must reach the Woods of Lothlorien. Come Boromir. Y/N, Legolas, Gimli, get them up.” Aragorn pulled Sam up from the floor. “On your feet.” Boromir made his over to you, wrapping a comforting arm around your shoulder. You smiled weakly at him, and he kissed your temple softly. “Frodo?” You heard Aragorn call, your eyes wandering to try to find the hobbit. Once you had found him, you sighed.
“It is hardly fair, that they do not get a chance to lament.”
“I know, but Aragorn is right. We must hurry to avoid the Orcs and another potential loss.” You nodded and Boromir’s words, hugging into his side, your eyes never leaving Frodo.
~~~
You had all been walking for a long while, but it was still light. You had been walking beside Aragorn, listening to him talk away about where we going and then after that and after that. It was not until he mentioned again where you were going now, that a faint memory flooded into your head. Your brows furrowed together whilst you tried to remember the details of the memory.
“What is it, Y/N?” Aragorn asked, concerned.
“Lothlorien. It sounds familiar.” You gave him a knowing look and his eyes widened, only slightly, in surprise. You both knew what that could mean. Legolas, however, did not, but he wanted to. He felt awful for eavesdropping yet again, but you intrigued him more than one ever had before, and his curiousness was getting the better of him.
Aragorn started to jog toward the forest, and you joined him, stopping once you were inside. Your eyes widened when you looked around, your breathing staggering only slightly, your heart thumping in your chest.
“Aragorn,” you whispered. “I have been here before.”
Chapter 6: These Secrets Stain Us Red
They had gotten off the bus at the last stop before Kull, stepping out into the cold air. Sophie glanced at the trees in the distance turning orange and yellow. Distantly, she remembered when she was younger this was her favorite season, how the leaves would fall and crunch at her feet, and how it was actually somewhat bearable to be outside. She smiled at the memory as she held Linh’s hand, walking quickly to the gas station, her stomach already grumbling.
“Linh?” a voice called from behind them as they stood in line. Linh swung around, trying to find the source of who called her, nearly startling Sophie into almost dropping her water. The mystery person stepped out from behind a small cluster of people with an overly energetic wave. “Linh! It is you!” he called.
Sophie watched as Linh’s eyes landed on the man and her whole expression shifted. As opposed to the man’s own happiness, Linh seemed to put a wall between her real emotions and the rest of the world, her face betraying nothing. “Hey, Sameul!” Linh said in pretend excitement; Sophie knew that her words carried an undertone of malice.
This Sameul was not the man Sophie had seen in the memories, but from Linh’s reaction, he seemed to probably be involved in whatever Linh was in.
“That’s me,” Sameul responded, clearly not getting Linh’s annoyance like Sophie was. “Geez, it’s been what, how many months since I last saw you?”
“Yeah it’s been a while,” Linh said, her shoulders rigid and her jaw set. Who the heck is this guy? she thought. Their name was called and Sameul followed them to go pick up their food. Sophie tried not to feel trapped with the way Linh’s eyes darted.
Sameul smiled ruefully, “Last time I saw you you had a little backpack and were running out the door in the middle of the night.” Linh took in a sharp breath and stuttering to a halt, her tray of food almost dropping. Sophie raised her eyebrows, more confused than ever. There was a beat then a sharp ring interrupted the weighted silence and Linh’s eyes widened with relief.
“Oh Sam, I’m sorry, that’s her sister calling. She’s really gotta take that. Why don’t you come with me?” Linh asked, more of a command than a suggestion. Reluctantly, Sophie pressed accept on her phone, ready to unleash the crazy whirlwind of shit that she had found out on one completely unprepared Amy. “What up checking in blame Tina she was worried,” Amy said, boredom concealing her concern.
“Uhuh sure Tina was worried,” Sophie chuckled. “Anyways, Linh is being super suspicious.”
Amy made a startled noise, “O-okay then so not well.”
Sophie nodded even though Amy couldn’t see her, “Yup, also uh side note, totally did not watch another one of her memories.” “Sophie! It’s like you’re trying to do it on purpose!”
“It was an accident I swear!”
“Mhm, yeah, definitely.”
Sophie grumbled, “Oh screw off. Anyway, I was in this bathroom and her knuckles were all bloody like she had punched something. And then this guy came in and said that she wasn’t allowed to be reckless anymore, but from what I saw it was like she was living with some other runaway people I guess?”
Amy was silent for a moment. “Well damn.”
“Yeah,” Sophie agreed. “You shoulda seen her when this guy recognized her while we were getting food; she got like scary tense and for a moment I thought she was gonna water power him.” “Water power him? Really? That’s what you’re calling it?” Amy said. Sophie could practically hear her raising her eyebrow. “At that point just call it water bending.”
“I refuse to call it that.”
“How dare you; you’ve disrespected our childhood.” Sophie laughed. “But seriously,” Amy continued, and she knew she wasn’t going to like what she was going to say next, “Soph, what happened to telling her about the memories? Instead, you just spied more.” “She’s the one with the sketchy past!”
“That you don’t have any right to!”
“She’s been weird and I need to figure out why. Once I do I’ll tell her everything.”
“No, you don’t need to figure it out yourself! You need to talk to her and she will tell you if she’s ready to.” “Don’t tell me what to do Amy. She lied to me. The first night we were together we talked about how we got here and she lied to me like it never happened.”
“This isn’t war Sophie. Just because you’re scared, just because she lied doesn’t mean you get to invade her privacy. She’s not the enemy Sophie, she’s your girlfriend.”
Sophie hung up and her phone buzzed twice more while she watched Linh walk back over to her. This wasn’t Amy’s problem, this wasn’t Amy’s life, so screw her for trying to tell her what to do. She had the abilities and she was sure as hell going to use them. “Sam left,” Linh said with a clearly fake smile. “Said he should probably get back on the bus and didn’t want to intrude.”
At that Sophie raised an eyebrow, she didn’t need to use her telepathy to know it was a lie.
Stepping on the bus felt like placing the weight of the world on her shoulders. She knew that man was something to Linh, or Linh was something to him; maybe he was what Linh was running from. She didn’t have regrets when she reached carefully out to Sameul’s mind and glanced at what he said to Linh. Maybe she should’ve regretted it, but she couldn’t bring herself to. She needed to know, when she had left the Lost Cities it was her way of saying “I will not be lied to even if it seems better that way”. So much had been kept from her and here she was, getting things from the source instead of waiting for someone to tell her.
The words, “You haven’t changed Linh,” rang in her ears as she pulled back, not letting any emotions show on her face as Linh followed behind her. Linh didn’t say anything so Sophie didn’t say anything and they settled into a tense silence as the bus around them buzzed with noise. Sophie tried to think of something to say as the words played on repeat in her head but Linh beat her to it.
“You never told me much about Mari, about what she means to you,” Linh said. Each word seemed rehearsed as if she had said it in her head a thousand times before speaking the words into existence. “I didn’t know you cared,” Sophie responded quickly before she could think it through.
“Tell me about Mari?” Linh asked softly.
Despite what Sophie was hiding from Linh and what Linh was hiding from her, she couldn’t stop herself from talking. The words may have meant nothing as she rambled on about her life there, only meant to be a distraction, but she let them spill from her lips without hesitation. She talked of Tommy, Angie, and Mari, of her weekly game nights, of the regulars at the diner. The people she had come to love yet when the time came she didn’t hesitate to leave ‘cause she was scared. Scared of the permanence of it, scared she’d lose herself in the dream of it. And how when she burned those bridges all she felt was a gaping hole in herself. As she talked she thought of the people she had left in the Lost Cities; how she burned it all like she had when she was young and reckless and angry burning her mark, the moonlark, into the ground desperate to prove something, desperate to mean something. But now she was afraid of that, tearing everything to shreds, burning it to ashes because she didn’t know how to mean something to someone. She thought of what Amy had said and briefly wondered if she would ever be able to just talk about something instead of treating everything as a mystery she was destined to solve. Eventually, her words lulled Linh to sleep and she let out a soft sigh of contentment as she laid her head on Sophie’s shoulder. Sophie glanced at Linh, only allowing herself a quick look at her girlfriend’s soft and relaxed face before staring out the window watching the gravel pass, not allowing herself time for her guilt and sadness to rise. She wasn’t allowed those feelings. With every fiber of herself Sophie dreaded and couldn’t wait for the moment they stepped off of the bus into Kull, the town with as weird of a name as people.
An hour later, as the sun started to fall behind the trees and the sky began to turn dark, that moment came and Sophie found her entire body filled with anxiety. They made their way to the front, Sophie in front of Linh, her hand stretched behind her holding Linh’s hand like a lifeline.
They were the only ones getting off and within seconds they were left standing on the dirt road, the bus was long gone. The air was cold, and the wind blew lightly, tossing around Sophie’s ponytail. Neither spoke to the other, standing in silence, staring at the buildings in front of them. It felt like they’d break a spell if they moved, if they talked, so Sophie didn’t. But Linh did (a spell didn’t need to last an eternity in her mind, just for the moment that it was intended for). Linh squeezed Sophie’s hand three times, dragging her out of her haze to stare at Linh confused.
“It’s a human thing,” Linh said sheepishly. Distantly Sophie remembered Amy teaching her, three squeezes, “I love you”. Four squeezes back and Sophie had said, “I love you too.” She didn’t have time to think if it was a lie because with that she started walking, entirely on autopilot, the familiar route to Mari’s house ingrained in her mind. It was after hours, so there’d be no point going to the diner. So she dragged Linh down main street, taking a left about halfway down, and then it was another block til she found herself outside the door on the white porch of the bright mobile home with her whole body buzzing. It was almost too much to be there; staring at it again it was like nothing had changed. But something had, because she didn’t have a key, and so she knocked with all of the impulsive courage she had left.
Three rapid knocks.
One. Two. Three. Four. Five seconds.
The door opened with a creak.
It wasn’t Mari.
There was a man, about her height, hair pulled in a bun and silver bangs over glasses. He was familiar, why was he familiar? Linh drew in a harsh breath of air and squeezed Sophie’s hand as tight as she could. That was when the puzzle pieces fell into place. That’s when it all made sense. The man standing in front of her was someone she hadn’t seen in two years other than in the memories she had unrightfully stolen from him. The man standing in front of her, still with his signature silver, was Tam Song.
Amy’s phone buzzed next to her, pulling her away from rereading her homework question for the eight time. Ever since Sophie’s call and her following silence Amy couldn’t focus; she tried to distract herself, and pulled herself away from texting Linh and telling her everything Sophie had told her. It’s not my place, she would think. It’s not part of the plan. Her phone unlocked and she slowly processed the photo and message. It was a picture of Sophie leaning her back against the gas station with her hand holding her phone to her ear. It was just like her co-conspirators to be that dramatic they had to send a photo too.
-Operation Collect the Dumbasses-
Braincell Holder: You know we heard that call. Pure of Heart Dumb of Ass: I thought we said that I would start this conversation? No Thoughts Head Empty: Yeah well you took too long. Braincell Holder: Not the Point. The Mental Stability: And the Point? This felt too pointed, Amy thought. Way too pointed and directed at her. Her phone buzzed again. Braincell Holder: Having second thoughts? Only slightly, Amy thought, but no no this needed to happen. The Mental Stability: No Pure of Heart Dumb of Ass: Thank the fucking ancients we can move on No Thoughts Head Empty: We’ve got a Phase 3 to begin
Phase 3, which they already had planned, would be the hardest to set up. Everything had to be just the right timing and just the right place.
Incoming call from Braincell Holder
Amy smiled as she accepted the call and long red hair popped into the frame. “Where is she?” Amy asked.
The redhead grinned, “She’ll be here in a minute, you know how Mrs. Sparkly Justice is; she’s got meetings but she said she’s got a friend who wants to help.”
Amy smiled, their little band of conspirators and their plan was working better than she could’ve imagined.
“So,” Amy said, “Where do we start?”
A/N: Christmas Requests open until New Years!
~Master~
~Marvel Master~
You and Peter had been friends since you were born and now all these years later, you’ve never been closer. You spent every holiday together, and that’s why when the night of December 23rd rolled around and Peter and you were at your favorite cafe, your heart shattered when he was telling you he had to leave on a mission for a few days.
“But... what about our traditions? Watching cheesy Christmas movies on the couch and drinking so much hot cocoa we fall asleep? Decorating my apartment on Christmas Eve? Aunt May taking so many pictures she runs out of storage on her camera?” You tried to hold back the hurt in your voice as you looked at him.
Peter felt awful. He knew how much the traditions meant to the both of you. Skipping them was the worst thing he could do. “We can always do it when I get back.” He suggested, knowing it wasn’t the same. You appreciated the effort and nodded, grabbing his hand and holding it.
“Deal.” Peters face brightened a little as you smiled at him. He pulled you in for a hug, pressing a soft kiss to your cheek as you blushed, wrapping your arms around his waists “Flash is having a party on Christmas Eve anyways, maybe I can convince Ned and MJ to come with me.” You said as you separated, looking up to see the two in question walking into the cafe to meet you.
You tried to plaster a smile on your face threw out the night but MJ knew something was up. It was nearing midnight when you all finally went your separate ways, Ned and Peter heading one way while you and MJ went another.
“Ok, spill.” You were barely around the corner before MJ spoke, making you shoot her a raised brow.
“Spill what?”
“Why were you so...” she gestured to your face, looking you up and down, “not you?”
“Wow, thanks MJ.” You joked and rolled your eyes but MJ just nudged you, moving along down the sidewalk.
“I’m serious. You barely even looked at Peter, even when he was staring at all lovesick.” MJ taunts made you blush as she poked you in your side, sending you into a fit of giggles.
“Stooopp!” You laughed, hiding the blush on your face. “Peter and I have been friends forever, okay? Nothings going to change, no matter how much I want it too.” You muttered the last part, pulling on your scarf to his your sad smile. MJ put her hands up in surrender, her lips upturned as she watched you out of the corner of her eye. “Peter’s leaving on a mission first thing in the morning. He’s gonna be gone past Christmas.”
MJ didn’t saw anything, just turning to you with shock. “But what about your traditions?” You nodded your head and shrugged, continuing on the sidewalk as your apartment came into view.
“We’ll do it when he gets back.” MJ sighed, shaking her head as she glanced back to where you left the boys.
“I’m sorry Y/N, I know how much it means to you.” You told her you were fine but MJ saw right through you, giving you a hug as she whispers in your ear. “You know you’re the most important thing to him right? Not Spider-Man, Not Ned or I, Not even Tony Stark meant as much to Peter as you do.”
You let out a little laugh, squeezing MJ tighter. “If I meant so much to him then why was ditching me so easy?” MJ didn’t have any other excuse besides saying Peter was dumb.
You told her goodbye, heading up to your apartment. The faint sound of Christmas carols echoed in the halls as you slumped against the wall, leaning your head onto the greasy ripped wallpaper.
They started singing your favorite christmas carol, the one Peter and you would always listen too while you decorated. Peter would always sing completely off key, making you laugh as he danced around the tree. Even though his singing voice was great, it always made everything better when he got you to laugh. The memory made you smile, tearing up as you ran your hand under your eye, wiping away any tears that fell as you shoved your key into the hole, pushing your door open to reveal the dark apartment behind it.
“I guess I should decorate you myself.” You spoke into the quietness, knowing that no one was gonna answer. The door closed behind you as you tossed your bag next to it, slapping the lights on. For some reason you thought Peter would’ve been on the couch, lounging in a pair of sweats as he chugged his third mug of cocoa. But he wasn’t.
Your phone read a little past midnight by the time you showered, putting yourself in your pajamas before walking out into the living area. The fake tree you had was resting on the ground, a few boxes of old ornaments laying next to it as you sighed, falling on the couch and turning on the TV. The screen lit up the room as you found yourself falling asleep to the voices of a Charlie Brown Christmas without decorating at all.
Peter sat on the jet the next day, tired from being in the air half the day and from his sleepless night which was locked in his brain as he stared down at his phone. Every few minutes someone would text him or email him or he’d just get some sort of notification and his screen would light up.
“Waiting for someone to text?” Sam asked as he moved to sit next to Peter, making the boy slightly confused before he stuttered, shaking his head. Peter didn’t say anything before his screen lit up again and some email appeared and Peter cleared it, the background of his phone pulling both of their attention and Sam realized what was going on. “Y/N.”
Peter looked embarrassed but nodded his head, staring at the picture more.
It was of you, taken last year at Christmas. You were putting the star on the tree, your tongue sticking out as you concentrated on not pushing the tree over. Peter couldn’t help but be entranced with how beautiful you looked at the moment and needed to snap a picture.
When his phone turned off he sighed, leaning back in his seat to rest of the side of the jet. “She’s been my rock since we were born, the one person I could do anything with and have fun no matter what.”
“So why the long face?”
“I left her on Christmas Eve. We spend every holiday together our way, you know, our own traditions. It’s just leaving her, I just feel... awful.” His voice was a whisper as Sam watched him, knowing that you meant more to Peter than he’s letting on.
Sam smirked, crossing his arms. “How long have you two been a couple?”
Peters eyes lit up and he almost dropped his phone as he spun to face Sam completely, shaking his head as fast as he could. “Oh no! N-no- no, it’s not- it’s not like that- we aren’t-“
Sam cut him off with a laugh as he patted the boys back, making Peter blush uncontrollably. “Sure it’s not, kid.” Sam stood up, leaving Peter thinking about you. Peter rested his head in his hands, trying to get some sleep before his phone buzzed and he pulled it out to reveal a text from MJ.
We need to talk about you and Y/N.
You spent a majority of the day doing some last minute Christmas chores: making some cookies for the neighbors, wrapping a few extra presents, and getting ready for Flash’s party. You couldn’t help but lose your happiness every time you walked past the empty tree, or the TV screen playing anything BUT Christmas movies.
MJ came by around 6, Ned stopping by soon after as you all made your way to Flash’s house. It was bigger than you imagined, all decked out with Christmas everywhere.
“You made it!” Flash yelled from behind you as the three of you spun around, his Christmas sweater drawing your attention right away as he staggered over to you. “Where’s Penis Parker?” He asked and looked past you all.
You rolled your eyes at the boy, your lips pursuing as you crossed your arms. “His name’s Peter and he’s busy tonight.” MJ and Ned shared a look behind you as Flash left. “Come on, let’s get something to drink.” You led them to a table not far from the entrance. Where you’d typically find a bowl of punch Flash had Eggnog and Christmas cookies. You laughed, biting into one of the cookies and grabbing another to hand to Peter. You froze, your hand hovering over the plate as you remember Peter wasn’t there. Your friends watched your attitude shift, your face down casted as you looked at them.
“I think Im gonna head out.” You said as Ned’s eyes widened.
“NO!” He yelled, gaining the attention of a few people around you as you furrowed your brow. MJ rolled her eyes, smacking him in the arm with her purse as you jumped. “Oww!” MJ glared at him, signaling over to you as you crossed your arms, eyes darting between your friends.
“Ok, is someone going to let me in?” They both scowled at each other, eyes narrowing before they both turned to you with fake smiles. You were taken back, bumping into the table behind you in surprise.
“We just meant, you don’t want to spend Christmas Eve alone, right Ned?” MJ asked, locking her elbow with yours and leading you out into the middle of the room as Ned took your other room.
“Absolutely!” He shouted, again much louder than he needed. You had no idea what was going on between them but you ignored it, letting them distract you.
A few hours later, you were still moping quite a bit, watching your friends dance sing badly to any type of song they played. You appreciated their efforts but it wasn’t completely working.
“Hey guys?” You yelled over the music, making them both come over. “Thanks for all this, but I really am going home. I think I’m just going watch some movies and head to bed.” You bit the inside of your cheek, taking a deep breath as MJ pulled out her phone and Ned took a step forward to hide her.
“Well, I can watch movies with you.” Ned offered as you gave him a small smile, putting your hand on his arm.
“Thanks Ned, but it’s not the same. Peter and I have been doing this for as long as I can remember. It’s just not Christmas without him.” He nodded sadly, taking a glance at MJ who, unknown to you, gave him a thumbs up.
“It’s okay Y/N.” She said, pulling you into a hug. “Call you tomorrow, okay?” You nodded, wishing them a Merry Christmas before heading out the door. Ned’s mom had driven you all there, but you weren’t far from your apartment as you took a walk in the dark.
You marveled at the Christmas lights adorning houses and a few different buildings. There were bright shining lights decorating the streets as you shivered, pulling on your gloves and scarf and made on your way. It was all so beautiful, a light fall of snow coming down as you looked up, wishing more than ever Peter was right next to you to enjoy it.
You finally reached your apartment building, passing a few different decorated doors before sweet music filled your ears much like yesterday. You couldn’t hear what was playing as it was muffled behind a door, but what alarmed you was it was your door. You didn’t remember leaving any music on.
“What the hell?” You mumbled, pulling out your keys and your phone to call someone. It didn’t look like someone broke in and the door was still locked so you carefully opened it, gasping and dropping both your keys and phone on the floor.
Your once empty and dark apartment was lit up, strings of Christmas lights covering the walls and windows. The tree was placed in the center of the room, fully decorated and lighting the room up as you stepped inside. The music continued to play, the soft tune of Silent Night playing through your speakers.
Someone was in here? Someone did all this? For you?
“Hello?!” You yelled, waiting for any response. Not a second later someone came out of your bedroom. You couldn’t tell who it was at first as you gasped for your phone, forgetting you dropped it and cursed at yourself. Then his shaggy chocolate brown hair came into your view. “Peter?”
His smile brought you back into reality and you ran into his arms, letting him pick you up and wrap your legs around his body. “I made it back.” He mumbled into your shoulder and squeezed you tighter in his arms. You let out a soft laugh, letting him put you down.
“Yeah, I see that! But why? I-I thought you had a mission.” He shrugged, pushing a fallen strand of hair out of your face.
“I did, but you’re more important.” You had to keep yourself from swooning right there as you stared up at him, barely lit by the strand of red lights next to his head.
“Peter...” You whispered as he just chuckled, grabbing your hands with his.
“I got you something.” He let go of your hands, much to your displeasure and headed towards the tree. He knelt on the ground before looking over his shoulder at you. “Close your eyes.” You gave him a goofy smile but let your eyes close.
Peter reached under the tree, grabbing the small black box under it before standing up and looking at you. You looked so beautiful, your face was relaxed and your smile made his knees weak. He fought back the urge to kiss you right then and there.
You heard Peter scurry on the floor and then stand up, but after that you couldn’t hear him move at all. If it was anyone else you would’ve been a little reluctant to have your eyes that long, but not with him. Never with Peter. “Okay, open your eyes.” He whispered as your eyes fluttered open, catching his almost instantly. You both stayed there, gazing into each other’s eyes as the rest of the world just faded out of existence. Peter went to grab your hand but the box got in the way and he finally snapped back into reality, knocking you back as well.
“Uh, here. I got this for you.” He put the small box in your hand as you looked at it. He urged you to open it and with one final glance up at Peter, you slipped the bow off and pulled the top off.
It was beautiful. A gold heart pendent with Peter and your name in the center, written in the most elegant writing you’ve ever seen. It was at that moment you knew Peter meant more to you than anyone could’ve.
Peter saw you speechless, hoping it was a good speechless as you looked up with watery eyes. “Merry Christm-“
“I’m in love with you.” Your words were so rushed out you questioned if Peter had even heard you until his mouth turned into a smile and he laughed. He was laughing at you? All your self pride deflated as you adverted your eyes and cleared your throat. Peter, the poor boy, caught onto your actions and was quick to shut them down.
“Y/N, just look on the back.” He told you as you listened, giving him a small nod. You took a deep breath and flipped the necklace over.
I love you.
You wanted to cry when you saw it. There on the back of a heart necklace with your names, was Peters handwriting professing his love. And it was the best Christmas present you’ve ever gotten. Peter cupped your chin, pulling your face up to look at his as he wiped the fallen tear from your cheek.
“I’m in love with you too.” He whispered seconds before kissing you. On second thought, that was the best present you have ever gotten. His nose brushed yours as you separated, both of you smiling brighter than you ever had before. “So, there’s still an hour or two left of Christmas Eve. Want to watch a movie? And make some hot cocoa?” He asked as you giggled, nodding your head yes.
Peter took your hand, letting you to the kitchen as you turned on the TV, putting on both of your favorite Christmas movie as Peter walked in the room with two steaming mugs.
He sat on the couch, pulling you down next to him as he adjusted, making you lean up against his chest.
“Thank you for coming back, Peter.” You whispered, kissing his now blushing cheek.
“Don’t thank me, Thank Ned and MJ. They’re the ones who distracted you for a few hours.” You made a mental note to thank them for their odd behavior before snuggling into Peter more, watching as the movie started.
Peter looked down at you curled up on his chest, clutching the pendent in your hands as he took it from you. You let out a small whine as you didn’t let go until Peter assured you he was only going to put it on you. His fingers traced the back of your neck as he put it on you, send shivers down your spine from the cool metal.
The moment it was clasped on you took your spot again, wrapping your arms around his torso and pushed yourself into him. Peter knew as he heard you laugh at the screen that he made the right choice in coming back for your traditions.
Coming back for you.
Feedback! Christmas Requests?
@lilith-the-ancient Id like to address your comment here. You said : “ As a Sam girl and wincest shipper who binged 12,5 seasons in 6 months: to me the writing is just significantly weaker: plot holes, characted assasination/oocness for the sake of plot, retcons. Important, emotional scenes becoming utterly inconsequential because death has no meaning anymore and trauma isn't dealth with propperly.” I will agree there have been some problems, but as a Sam girl wincest shipper who binges the show constantly, I dont see much of the later problems as new problems, but problems that have always been there. Death was made to mean nothingm on our level, in “In my Time of Dying” S2x1 reestablished in All Hell Breaks Loose, 2x21 and 22 and driven home, in Lazerus Rising 4x1. This is not a new late season problem. We were supposed to recognize this very early on, that Sam and Dean (and others) will die, and come back to life. Its the manner of death, the reaction of the surviving brother, and the story that comes about because of it, that is important. To this day, Sam’ first death, Dean’s 3x22  and 9x23 death, and most recently Sam’s death in 13.21 bring me to tears. Not because I dont know theyre coming back, but the brother’s reaction is excruciating, and drama always unfolds around it.   I think the writing, as well as the acting has improved overall, save for a couple dumb stories, but Ill take dealing with the BMOL over the S3 Lilith chase any day, and was there actually a storyline in S2? Oh yeah “Dad said I might have to kill you” There were a lotof plot holes and retcons in the early seasons, remember when “Christos” would bring out demons? Or they could see ghosts on their cell phone cameras?  Anti posession tats that appear conveniently out of the blue? (sure they could have gotten them after getting the charms off Bobby, but if they both suddenly had an angel warding tat on their chest too, everyone would bitch about the retcon) Emotional moments got boring by S3. Which brother is going to cry today? Why will Dean punch Sam today? Which one is gonna pin the other to the wall today? Im really lad they moved from that, because now if either cries, or punches the other, theres a reason behind it, not just for the sake of “chicks dig crying guys and physical altercations” The only OOCness and character assassination I have witness in all 13 seasons was Sam at the beginning of S8. However, Sacrifice was the single most important episode in Sam and Dean’s relationship and wouldnt have been so meaningly and touching, if Sam hadnt felt a guilty as he did. Justified guilt or not, had he not felt so much like he let Dean down and Dean had others more important than him, Deans words wouldnt have meant anything.  I dont see any other actions by the brothers as OOC even if it was ugly for the moment.  Trauma isnt dealt with properly, Ill agree there. But most of the time I think its us, the viewers, that put more into the trauma than the story actually does. Ive read a lot of meta, and I see a hug amount of projecting going on, but surely, some truama should never have been brought up if they werent going to deal with it.  Like I said, the early seasons have many flaws too, and one huge one IMO is bad acting, maybe not BAD as much as the boys trying too hard to become these characters, that it looks/sounds forced a lot, and sometimes a bit cringey. Once they got comfortable with the characters, the show got much better. Once writers got ballsy enough to write more than folk lore monsters and missing Dad... and added things like addiction, sex with demons and angels, Hell, insanity, and so on, I was full on obsessed. Also, not stepping foot into the fandom made it better. I wasnt tainted by what other people had to say about anything, and formed my own opinions. And figure, there are almost 300episodes and new show runners and writers, its inevitable things are going to get missed... its sad though that it was happening even before they had 100 episodes and all the original writers.
System rebooting. Initializing hunter, Paladin back online.Gabe came back online first thing seeing he was held down by two other hunters in a makeshift court room. Normally Mavericks are executed on site but this was a special occasion. Mach Pachyderm presiding over the ex-hunter Paladin.
“Due to your service I figured Id owe you atleast a chance to explain yourself and provide information on whats about to happen next from the Hikari. Give us something and your execution shall be swift. ”
But Gabriel wasnt even listening, more going over what happened. There was a fight, his memory circuits starting to cycle through, the team was ambushed hard by someone in the Hikari. Close to how Salem was  but far more dangerous and went by the name of Midus, more so probably to be funny than anything. The attack happened swiftly as Mach went over the details of the situation.
“Going over the report your group from the wreckers were investigating some Hikari disturbances as they were ambushed over in the warehous district, thanks to your help most of the squad was wiped out along with more attacks against civilian targets to help your cohorts escape away with whatever information they were looking for.” As if to seal the deal, muffled explosions reverberated through hunter hq as the fighting over the city intensified.
But That wasnt the case Gabe thought but didnt speak they wouldnt believe him. the evidence was overwhelming, plus along with the virus…no the attack did happen, Gabe and the others were separated but he was ordered to help the civies out. Then he ran into that Hell reploid…Looking around the room seeing the different hunters for this wondrous occasion he. Emerald wasnt there maybe a mission or didnt want to show but Excalibur was there. He opened up a private com to him using some codes that were given. “Flamingo please I need you to listen to me!” Gabe pleaded “I should make sure the codes are changed after they are done with you so no other traitors use them” Flamingo stated as Gabe continued “You know me I wouldnt betray my team like this, Its a set up and I need help they are in trouble!” “Ha I used to know you, to think I would consider you a friend… and here you are just like sam…” “Flame please you were there during the sigma betrayal youve been there countless times you know I would never do this and if I dont get out of here my friends and others will die please I need your help.” Gabe practically begging at this point staring down Flamingo seeing him shift to his other leg “Say I want to believe you, say that what your saying is true.” “Excalibur I swear to you on my core if whatever I say is a lie ill lay down and let you kill me, but please my friend please…” Flamingo took a moment shifting from foot to foot as he stared Gabriel in the eyes trying to find the lie. “Im going to regret this… you have five mins before I change my mind..” “I only need two.” The link went dead and Mach was finishing up his speech. Gabriel went thru his  systems. VAS systems. Armor statues Buster -24% Berserker 34% Burst 12% Strike 10% Sword 35% Shield 20% BeastG 48% correction 52%, correction 55%
All other armors destroyed. Vwes system at 50%, Weapon 40%, Limbo ready. “Silence gets you no where Paladin” Mach spoke up glaring at Gabe. “Seems  to me then your loyalty then has changed. Maverick.” The acid from his tone could of melted Voltairs armor. To everyone in the room Gabe looked to be defiant but Flame was watching intently, reading Gabes lips as he mumbled. “System override Dr. X code 0117836 safety disengage of Core,VAS, Weapons and Vwes system. Confirmation code Kingslayer….Sorry Dad, forgive me but I need to save my friends,” Gabes systems shifted into Last Man Standing mode, experimental limiter removal  for his systems. He had five minutes before his core gave out. “Ex-hunter Paladin  do you have any words before we execute you?” Mach Pachyderm said as Gabe looked up defiant but smiling. “Yeah I do, style change, Buster form.” In a flash Paladins armor shifted into buster armor as two buster shots blasted back the two hunters beside him, as he turned toward the wall and bore a hole through it escaping from the makeshift court room bolting through the hallways of Hunter Hq. The alarm rang off as Gabriel heard Pachyderm screaming or his blood. “If im going to get blamed for it..” setting his busters to low any new hunter that rounded the corner got a quick burst to knock them back. Making his was down low thankful Veronica wasnt at the desk, tho Flamemingo was waiting for him as Paladin rushed him “You cant beat me in that armor “Friend” give it up.” “Your right buddy but Mach isnt the only one with CQC busters” Excal smirked as the two met, Rising phoenix against fulled charged Plasma shot. The smoke cleared as Flame saw the buster armor fall to pieces, then boots sprinting away from him. Catching a glimpse of burst armor rounding the HQ entrance, “I hope my faith isnt misplaced Gabriel.” As Flamemingo reported the prisoner escaping towards the back. Paladin ran, boosters at max rushing back towards the warehouse district passing by destroyed buildings, hearing the shots of blaster rifles and buster ring through out the city.  Again the warzone it became as hikari’s plans began to come to fruition. He felt it before he heard it just as the round exploded near him shattering the remains of his burst armor, Thanks to his vwes and some luck Gabe rounding the corner back in base form breathing heavy of that near death shot as he spotted a hunter tank rounding the corner. “I really dont have time for this” was all he managed as the tank tracked back onto him and fired. As the round exploded demolishing the corner to bits, the tank crew was about to report a successful kill till the smoke cleared revealing a barrier and a for the most part unhurt Paladin in Shield form. As the barrier lowered they lost sight of him. “Payback!” Gabe shouted as he activated his vwes jumping high into the air and punching the tank with his shield completely destroying the gun and smashing the front armor completely. Tho his slight repereive was short lived as 3 more rounded the corner along with more Hunter support. Hopping off the side taking cover and switching to Bereserker armor Paladin gave a savage kick to the crippled tank sending it sliding towards his ex comrades. They chased him hard through out the war torn city crossing different combat zones, if it wasnt for strike vanish and the teleportation Gabe was sure he’d be dead by now. Making it back to the last location of what he remembered the warehouse they were sent too came into view, then the road exploded. Phasing out barely to safety, Gabe cursed himself for being reckless as the strike armor shattered off of him.  He heard the click of the coms as Mach screamed into his ear. “Maverick give yourself up or I swear on my…that you will…and I will…” But then his voice was replaced through the static as Gabe continued on his way in. “Good to see your still alive Paladin would of hated to see you taken out by such low class hunters.” “Im going to help my friends out Midas then Im coming for you.” “Tick Tock my friend or yours wont be around much longer” The line went dead as Gabriel marched on through hearing the fighting intensify as he got closer. “ Im coming to help guys,” As Paladin shifted into sword form lifting Limbo up feeling it ready to cleave through whoever was in the way. Cleaving is way into the warehouse surprising some hikari that decided to move to late, he heard the team fighting below as more goons came pouring in swarming where they were hold out. “Ah you finally came Paladin, just in time too” Gabe spun around just in time bringing the blade up in time as Midus attack his beam saber meeting limbo sparking plasma off. “Not even a hello Paladin? how rude” As Gabe growled and swung viciously. They traded blows. Sword to sword they fought as each cut shredded the sword form but limbo scored gashes into Midius armor.Breathing heavy as they pushed each other back, “Well now lets see if your worth it.” Midus stepped back as his appearance changed  seeing One of the Hell beast armors covering him instead of the normal, before he could react Felt his core almost crack as he was sent flying crashing through walls before landing in a heap. “A shame really, you had so much potential, gaining all this power to do what protect the weak like the Knight you think you are?” Midus laughed as Gabe attempted to stand. “To think all this planing, all this setting up to see you come up short…” With a roar Gabe shifted the beast armor of Gregor Roaring with him as he attacked Midus full force feeling the rage build within him while he tried to tear Midus apart. Each hit caused the already damaged building to crumble more. They traded claw for claw, shot for shot each viciously striking, Midas toying with Gabe while he did his damnedest to rip out Midas’s core “Is this all you have? its sad.really.” Midas commented as he swatted to the side as he caught himself. Gabe just smirked seeing the timer count down before his core would give out.
“You know what Ill give that to you. You set me up pretty dammed well, fuck if I ever will be accepted back, and the virus…hell either im lucky or just to stupid to infect anyone else but your going to get your dam wish.“ As Gabe dropped the beast armor causing Midas to pause “Oh giving up so soon?” “No Midas i have one more trick, and im glad for once none of my friends are around for after the ordeal we went through to kill this thing…Im sure they would hate me to have this, but Ill give you the show of the life time and its going to be your last.” “Lets see what you got Paladin!” Midas Rushed forward just as the timer for Gabes core ticked to the one minute mark. (Thanks Dad, I know why you made this to give us a chance to deal with the bullshit assholes like this throw at us, but I hope you can forgive me for snooping around and know that im using this armor for the right reasons. And to my friends…) As he switched to Comms hearing everyone call out wondering if he was alright and able to assist. “You guys are my family and thank you” He clicked off the comms before rushing Midas himself. “STYLE CHANGE! GRAVE ARMOR, VANISHING WORLD!” For the briefest moment Midas felt raw power spike up to unbearable levels only to be condensed into one point, Feeling Paladins energy spike as his fist connected detonating our in a single direction, All Gabriel caught before the world went white was a smile from Midas as he felt his own energy reserves blow out sending him tumbling down…down…down…
