How I navigate through the 911 fandom:

I don't trust Buddie shippers who also ship Stucky

I sometimes trust Buddie shippers who also ship Destiel

I always trust Buddie shippers who also ship Sambucky.

And you might think this has only to do with ships I like but it's mostly due to the behavior I witnessed in these fandoms.

The Stucky fandom is the only fandom I know that actively ruined an actress' chance of being in another movie (Emily VanCamp) because they were angry she kissed one of the characters in the ship.

I've noticed similar behavior in the Buddie fandom, with some of the so-called fans driving the actors (Oliver Stark) off of social media because of their harrassment.

I feel like if you're used to being in a toxic fandom, you'll reproduce that behavior in other fandoms too.

Also I definitely don't trust Buddie shippers who hate Tarlos.

is it just me or are so many sambucky writers not writing anymore? I'm realizing more and more people I used to recognize in the tag all the time haven't written in months or longer. I'm sad people are leaving :(

Hi anon! It is sad that some people have stepped away for now but I think it's a natural slow down between shows/movies. We're two years post-tfatws and a year out still from Cap4 (and Thunderbolts). It makes sense that the engagement is less at the moment. I'm sure many will come back next year!

But also, fic writers are just people. They have lives, jobs, everyday troubles, and so we can't expect them to provide a constant output of content. There's been a decline in reader engagement too that leads to writers feeling burned out. I used to be incredibly shy about leaving comments on fics (silly cos I'm just a random name on the web but oh well) and I've been making a conscious effort to comment and reblog more and support the writers still out there writing incredible stories. For us, for free!

And of course, there are moments when certain sects of the fandom (or adjacent to us sambuckies) get a little hostile and ignorant and the exhaustion of dealing with that kind of nonsense also disengages people. Or just keeps folk from going into the tag.

Anyway, this is longer than I intended. 😆

There's still so much amazing work out there to enjoy, even if it's not in the tag. Sometimes, on Ao3, I'll set the filter to a particular date range. Either around a previous film release, or the time after one the tfatws soldier episodes released, and I'll find amazing stories that got lost in the avalanche. Read those, engage, comment, and maybe those authors will see that notification and be re-inspired to create more?

All it takes for a character to be interpreted as heterosexual is simply for the character to exist. A character can never kiss a member of the opposite gender, hook up with one, or show any signs of attraction and still be viewed as straight. Meanwhile, two members of the same gender can have the most intimate onscreen relationship, flirt, check each other out, show visible signs of being in love with the other, and somehow none of that is enough to even SUGGEST that they might be queer.

What a gross double standard. Sexuality is not “straight until proven otherwise” like so many believe it to be. Newsflash to all the straight normies out there, your favorite non labeled, sexuality unconfirmed character in your favorite show is NOT STRAIGHT just bc they haven’t been confirmed as queer. Use your fucking brains for once. It’s all about diving into media and picking up on subtext until that subtext suggests queerness. Then, suddenly, everyone loses their fucking ability to interpret a piece of media. Have you considered that: if all signs point to them being gay then maybe they actually really are just gay???

Many links aren't active anymore, but maybe the servers are, so I'm trying my luck in tagging the OP and waiting.
