February 2025 Shiny Hunting Challenge

Goal: To collect as many PINK colored shinies during the month of February 2025.

If the first and only instinct you have to give feedback to someone's creative project is a critique of what they did wrong - especially when they did not ask for your critique - please take a moment to step back and ask yourself if this is necessary to share.

It's so grating and really speaks that someone is not a creative when the only time they want to offer their opinion on something someone made is to tell that person what they don't like about it.

And if you are ever so lucky to be invited to offer critical feedback on someone's work - learn the art of the sandwich. Compliment, critique, compliment. Tell the person what they did well. Then tell them what didn't work for you and always offer them suggestions of what could improve it so you don't leave them floundering. And then tell them again the things you like so they leave the feedback feeling encouraged and emboldened to work at their project.

Listen sometimes your family doesn’t want to buy two types of bread so you’re stuck with a turkey cold cut and cheese on a bun. I would be hard pressed to call that a burger

i literally just ate three cut-up hot dog weiners between two slices of toast. i would also be hard pressed to call that a sandwich, because i would be hard pressed to call it food at all. but it's still a mockery of a sandwich because a sandwich is made with sliced bread not fucking burger buns

hey kids, some advice: maybe don’t start sewing at 11 pm thinking “oh i’ll just do one bit” then go “might as well finish the whole bit” only to realize the next step is going to be a nightmare as-is and you hate the end result of the previous step anyway so you decide to course-correct and start to undo two days’ worth of work and restructure the plan of attack and get 4 out of 10 bits redone by redoing them sometimes 3 times not including the two days’ of work you just undid that you’re now going to have to do by hand and then you look up and it’s 2:30 am and you have to get up early tomorrow and Be Active.

Veilguard being so wildly polarizing is tough because yeah I didn't play a ton, but what I did experience was like... 6/10.

Can neither commiserate with the haters nor the lovers without feeling like I'm being a smarmy contrarian.

top 3 shiny hunting methods for me would probably be

pokeradar/chaining (specifically in DPPt/BDSP)

soft resetting

masuda method

i absolutely love how methodical chaining is. you really have to pay attention to what you're doing, and there's this sense of anticipation and suspense as the counter goes up. once you hit a high chain, it becomes so vital to keep that chain going. it's also the only method wherein a shiny is pretty much guaranteed after a certain point as long as you keep resetting the chain. it's a high risk, high reward method that's extremely gratifying to pull off.

soft resetting is fun, too. doing any full odds hunt is daunting of course, but the payoff is always worth it, especially since soft resetting is typically reserved for highly sought-after pokemon like starters, fossils, and legendaries. there's no greater rush than seeing thousands of purple mewtwo in a row and then finally watching that green mewtwo sprite enter the screen. it's extra fun if you're doing it with more than one cartridge/system...it feels systemic in a way that's really satisfying.

and then there's the tried and true masuda method. while hatching eggs endlessly can get pretty dry, it's nice to do a hunt that doesn't require much attention or manual input, especially since the odds for hatching a shiny are so favorable compared to full odds hunts. the sheer variety of pokemon available to hunt this way is unmatched, which makes it very attractive as a shiny hunting method to me.

anyway i'm kind of addicted to shiny hunting again 🤗

ok checking in for the evening <3 the sleeves have, as sleeves tend to do, caused a whole bunch of issues (honestly this is why i hate sleeves- its not that theyre particularly hard to put in but they just seem to pull a perfectly good pattern out of shape So Easily) but those are problems for future me, i think. im tempted to just throw in my sleeve pattern that i know works for me and go fro. there, but thats gonna be a chunk of work making the armholes fit together... so maybe its easier to work with the pattern that "goes" with this (but its not the right shape, either. so)

up until that point it was going well! i forgot how long it takes to move changes onto paper, though, god. but i was being Good, so thats gotta count for something. i have a couple more changes to make before i go into the real fabric

take in the side seams more (though lets see with the sleeves now, urgh)

shorten the button stand another inch

raise the waist at the back

think theres some things im gonna need to adjust further (mostly the fine tuning of the fitting), but they can be done in the final fabric i think. just gotta figure out the sleeves. all will be well
