main take aways from Halloween (1978) rewatch:

michael myers is canonically 21??? this bitch should be at the club

that's it that's the movie

outside of the fact that everyone who has sex is murdered by the narrative, this is a surprisingly chill portrayal of female sexuality? these teen girls are horny and actively enjoying Getting It On with their boytoys. no pushy boyfriends sneaking in through their bedroom windows--these ladies are taking the initiative to sneak out and GET SOME. one of them gets laid and then immediately orders her boyfriend to get her a beer. (yes she gets Slashered soon afterward, but so does the boyfriend so honestly, gender equality.) yes the Final Girl is the only one not having sex, but she's not bullied for that, nor are her friends slut shamed except possibly by being murdered by the narrative

actually the only character who is shown being morally condemned on-screen is michael myers. specifically FOR his violent overreaction to other people's sex lives. (people he is spying on). metaphorically, the villain is American Puritanism sticking its judgy nose into other people's business.

aka Michael Myers Is A Republican

but actually the real villain is the doctor. guy's a judgemental, shaming, pathologizing asshole. and he's been in charge of michael's care since he was SIX YEARS OLD? kid never had a chance. i'd go on a killing spree too

also the parents. where are the parents? it's halloween night and all the teenage girls are home babysitting their younger siblings? come to think of it, michael's first victim was his own older sister, whom he killed while she was babysitting him. teen girls are really shouldering a labour burden here. maybe parentification is the true villain

side note: mike commits his first murder wearing a clown costume...which is never referenced again? his 'iconic' costume is a generic mask and wig and jumpsuit, when we coulda had a Killer Clown Michael Myers??? travesty

i like how the Final Girl and her friend casually smoke weed in her car. yeah she's an honor student and her friend is the sheriff's daughter. yeah they smoke weed. so what it's 1978

(to reiterate, mike is 21 and should be at the club. im not saying he shouldn't be rampaging, im saying it's sad that he broke out, tasted freedom for the first time in his life, and immediately snuck back into his childhood home to go rampaging. let's have a remake where he goes to a nightclub and has a few beers. maybe some slutty dancing. then rampage)

#HALLOWEEN #halloween the movie #michael myers #do you think he's a mike? mikey? to his friends? if slashers had friends?#i'll be honest i was expecting this movie to be way more of a bitch to its female characters #i mean yeah they died but so did some dudes #there's just a lack of cattiness compared to the way most later movies portrayed teenage girls idk #yeah the Final Girl is a Virgin and a Bookworm. but there's no bullying or any strong sense that's she's morally superior to everyone else #mostly she AND the other girls feel a bit sorry for her lack of a social life. one even tries to set her up with a date to the school dance #solidarity! trying to get your nerd friend laid!#overall it's just teenagers being teenagers and then a slasher comes in and ruins everything with his Lack Of Chill #like yeah dude sometimes teenagers have sex. get over it #also something to be said about how while the girl who survives is the one who isn't sexually active and dresses conservatively...#ultimately those things aren't ENOUGH to prevent her from being targeted #you could say that the other girls 'provoked' the villain (the same way women irl are so often accused of provoking their attackers)#but ultimately that doesn't keep the Final Girl safe. it just delays the inevitable.#because violent men never need excuses. no matter how eager society is to provide them.#ultimately she is at the mercy of the same violent whims because it was never her behavior that invited the violence.#gendered violence doesn't need an invitation.#also she doesn't save herself the doctor saves her #it's not her actions or choices that put her in danger OR save her from it--once again it is the whim of a man #no this wasn't intended to be a feminist movie it's just fun how you could argue it that way

Thinking about a scenario where (pre-Plot Happening) Mobei Jun and Shang Qinghua have a tiff, and Shang Qinghua goes back to his peak and honestly he isn't trying to make MBJ apologize first or anything, he just gets so busy that he doesn't have time to grovel (kind of forgets they had an argument in the first place because it's not like MBJ is going to kill him YET unless he does something really egregious, they're on a schedule), but Mobei Jun is just fuming in his ice palace like "that asshole thinks I can't replace him, I can absolutely replace him, he's sooo replaceable" and etc.

So Mobei Jun tries it. He's going to hire himself another evil advisor. Another groveling rat minion. Maybe a dozen groveling rat minions! He's a demon king, these sorts of people are not hard to find. They can't all be working for his shitstain uncle!

And they aren't, of course. Finding a minion who is loyal to Mobei Jun (well, relatively) rather than any of his rivals actually isn't that hard. Mobei Jun is the most promising demon strength-wise of his generation, he's the direct heir, and he's less absent from court than his father and less treacherous and scheme-y than his uncle. There's a whole crowd he appeals to, who serve him readily and have no motive to turn on him.

But.

Turns out that there is a specific combination of traits which Shang Qinghua brought to the table, and none of his new groveling sycophants have it. The ones who are the best at sucking up also tend to be the worst at having actual skills. The ones who are good at their assigned tasks don't have much of an interest in complimenting his tits or telling him this or that cloak really brings out his eyes. The ones who do tell him those kinds of things also keep turning up in his bed, which is unwelcome and annoying. No one can offer him nebulous sort-of-prophetic insights to the goings-on of his realm either, or if they try to, they turn out to be hacks and charlatans with woefully low accuracy rates. A lot of them just outright lie to try and manipulate him against their rivals or enemies.

Within a week Mobei Jun is frazzled, exhausted, and finally ready to apologize.

He shows up on An Ding Peak and slaps Shang Qinghua across the face. The most self-debasing sign of desire that he can extend. Open palm and everything. He's practically on his knees begging Shang Qinghua for forgiveness (he's not actually, though, after all he's still extremely arrogant demon royalty).

Several years into the future, Shang Qinghua will dimly recollect the incident after actually learning about demon courtship customs (he wrote them, doesn't mean he was actually paying attention to them) and ask what that was about, and Mobei Jun will have a Hollywood style PTSD flashback both to that and to the second time he and SQH had a big fight and SQH left, and not properly answer him.

#deltarune #kris dreemurr #utdr #Fred's art #been thinking a lot about how in Undertale the ACT function is presented as basically universally morally good and is the only way to MERCY #and how that theme is complicated and expanded on in Deltarune where not only are there some enemies which you simply Must fight but #the act of ACTing is also increasingly compared to Acting in the theatrical sense - doing something Untrue in order to elicit an emotional #response (and often for entertainment purposes) - especially in combination with all the Puppet theming and imagery #any time we make Kris ACT we may be sparing innocent people from violence but we are also forcing an action onto someone who has no say in #the matter. and it makes me think of people who are like 'oh im a Good Player im only making Kris do the Good Options' when what Is a Good #Option when you are co-opting another person's sense of self?#oftentimes - especially with Susie - the more obvious 'Good Option' is stilted and awkward and Kris ends up delivering the assigned line in #a deliberately strange way in order to keep from sounding artificial and insincere #likewise things like hugging Ralsei at the training dummy seem cute and wholesome and then you get to the end of chapter 1 and learn from #Asgore that Kris doesn't like hugs at all - and therefore earlier you were just imposing a pre-fab idea of happiness onto someone who would #Not have enjoyed that interaction at all #With how the player just steamrolls into and over Kris' life - quite literally with how you save over the Kris Save File - everything they #do in the game is an ACTion - which begs the question: when will it be enough? When do we get to SPARE them?

I'm still not completely happy with how I draw Thad but I'm getting there slowly, incredibly slowly. Same with Kon, he's not there yet but he's much closer. and I swear that isn't the usual outfit I draw him in, I swear I can do better ToT

Mindless rambles about my struggles with designs aside I've been trying to post more, mainly to get me back in the habit of drawing, but I am working on a larger, not large, but larger project that may or may not have to do with a Young Justice 98 and FNAF mash up and one of the characters is absolutely fucking me over. So I'm just doing easy drawings until my brain agrees with my arms enough to actually draw what I want to draw. I don't think these drawings are things I'll put on the Internet because they are just random drawings, but I'll probably share them to the YJ98 discord server. but I personally think this is a fun AU I am currently making and it will be forced on the world soon, kicking and screaming.

played dragon age 2...just simple scribbles

#dragon age tag #i doubt that will see much use again..but who knows. vvv rambling below #weird game..the characters dialogue stuff and ending were good tho :')#i've played some of the first game but it kept crashing. i knew already despite knowing nothing that this guy was going to be my type #it doesnt feel right making video game art any more bc games like this end up feeling really personal - an experience that happened to me #if i design the main character a bit and fall in love then..that happened to me..i can't make Fan Art of that..only ive been through that..#like i cant make fanart of my dear companions in bg3 despite it having been a huge part of my heart in the last year #almost 1000 hours of playtime in something i can barely talk about bc it means too much.... lol #tons of ideas and conversations and extra thoughts and scenes and emotions about all the incredible times i've been through in bg3 #and the maelstrom just rotates around intensely in my own heart forever...but that's ok too...that is so precious to me #but fortunately i already knew people that have played this game and talked/drew abt it recently so it was saved from that for me #sharing scribbly fanart on my Blog is a way to capture the feeling just after experiencing something so it has good points #witch hat atelier escapes that by not being a GAME. games are so immersive. but my wha art & feelings are incredibly immersive too #which makes it difficult sometimes now. i live a complicated and emotional life <3 i am not suited to fandom <3 #my character ended up looking so much like oru without me realising that's what i was doing. As much as the 'haha Takemichi went to save his husband after saving his wife, bisexual much?' joke is funny, people who seriously thinks Tokyo Revengers should've stopped when Hinata was finally safe and sound missed an important component to the plot.

Yes, it all started with Hinata - but since when was it all about Hinata?

Takemichi, kind-hearted Takemichi, should've just stopped everything after saving her? He got into Toman for this reason, yes, to get closer to Mikey and stop him - and Kisaki - from killing her, but he also sincerely got closer to Mikey. And everyone else. And he's supposed to simply leave them be when 'mission: save Hinata' is complete? As if the number of people he wanted to save didn't get longer with each timeline? Those are his friends why would he throw them all away.

To protect Hinata he decided to stick close to Mikey since he failed to prevent Mikey and Kisaki meeting each other - and he got attached to Mikey during that, as well as all of Toman. Each steps to save Hinata was also a step to save Mikey from corruption and self-destruction. It was all linked from the start.

There was a shift after Bonten, okay, whatever, the only thing that truly changed was Hinata's importance in it. New enemy? That happens in each arc (right, sure, there wasn't Kisaki anymore). Mikey being more and more violent? Again, each arc featured a moment of Mikey showing signs of being mentally unwell - and now it was aggravated because it was two years earlier than what Takemichi got used to go back to. Etc, etc. Toman may be disbanded, but its (at least main) members still meet and interact and they all kept in touch - Mikey aside. That just a change of mood, a mix of the present/future timelines with a more serious setting and of the past timelines with how young they are, despite not being as young as before. And future timelines have never been a problem - there's a lot of love for Manila and Bonten. If Wakui had had time and energy, Kanto Manji, all 70 and so last chapters of TR could've worked with its fanbase. For some reasons it didn't, and I don't get why by myself

#mikey has already been violent. past mikey never that much but we saw manila and bonten mikey's behavior #how is kanto manji mikey's surprising when you know what he did in manila and bonten #chifuyu had already tried to stop takemichi in his stubbornness that was harming him. several time. Tenjiku. hi i make more hybern ocs bc... bc yeah. niamh lore is that she is a mother so i dooble her with her children (non biological tho she just likes picking them off hybern streets and goes mhm mhm 🙂‍↕️, my kid now)

they are her first children 🫶 she doesn't know how to handle kids but fast forward present time they are grown, + she has like thirty children now and counting idk. i explore hybern a lot (because i have to hyperfixiate in very particular things sjm threw in the trash or what else am i going to do with my life) she takes in children because they are often given up since it's mandatory that they are thrown into military training. children who escape or are deemed unfit to become soldiers she manages to place into her care. in secret ofc. for the longest time they are just her will to live 😔❤

timeskip this is them grown up they are a trio of creatures trying to overthrow the government with their mom, all just very great bonding activities

in my mind i have a lot of hybern ocs bc i am very delusional but one day i will manage to manifest them in canvas. or write them 😔 for now they live in the dark recesses of my mind. i haven't even updated my fic in months yet mind u all the drawing and writing happens in my daydreams and occasionally i come here to yap..... i think im rebranding my fic and moving it to ao3 just so i don't post art and writing in same account, for once i will be organised! 🙂‍↕️

another funny story from today, which i would believe was made up if i hadn't been there myself. so i'm at work, mid-class, my ipad in front of me because i wanted to do some stuff for uni while the kids are doing homework. and for a while now my background image is still sieun from weak hero. because pookie, obviously. anyway. this kid — ten years old, tops — walks past, stops dead in his tracks, points at my screen and asks: “wait… is that weak hero class?” and i just stare at him for a second because—what do you mean, is that weak hero? why do you know what that is? but before i can even formulate the follow-up questions, this kid goes: “but ren, suho’s in the hospital.” and now i'm sitting there, completely off-track from whatever i was supposed to be doing, because this elementary schooler then launches into a full unsolicited analysis of sieun’s emotional repression and that he gets that he is this angry about losing his bestest of besties, while i'm just slowly realizing that this generation… they are growing up knowing our national sunshine ahn suho is in a coma. they deal with that at age ten or eleven. and honestly? a lot of things about gen alpha are starting to make sense now. they are our strongest soldiers.
