#ROBINDUTT #dandy & #mylove DO #burlingtonarcade & #savilerow which like all of #Mayfair was conceived & owned designed & funded by a woman. In this case the #eccentric Dorothy Savile Countess of Cork & Burlington. The #SavileRow suit still echoes the style of #beaubrummel who not only invented the #threepiecesuit but the practice of polishing one's boots with champagne - a practice I can attest to. It's a fine use of flat champagne. The Bespoke Savile Row Suit is distinguished by its unimpeachable cut & that something extra only obtainable on Savile Row! Thank you Countess Dorothy Savile of #Cork & #Burlington for conceiving & #creating #SavileRoad (it once ran from Bond St to Regent St & had a free #tailorsschool for boys & a #seamstress school for girls ) which she funded. Savile Row was the centre of Bespoke tailoring by 1664 thanks to Henry Jermyn who lured them there as part of KingCharlesII's creating a modern London of garden squares & glass-fronted arcades. This timely building project avoided greater loss of life in the great Fire of 1666. In 1710 CountessBurlington built the glass-fronted #BurlingtonArcade at the back entrance to #BurlingtonHouse so that #Handel & #Kent & her other prot茅g茅s could arrive splendidly suited & booted. Famed as a great #saloniere & patron of the arts, she was an artist in her own right. She also built the first Burlington Arcade in 1710. Her purpose in building the Burlington Arcade (rebuilt in its current form a hundred years later in 1810) was due to the stench of the oyster bar behind #BurlingtonHouse (now the #RoyalAcademy). The oyster bar patrons would throw their shells on the street & visitors would arrive their boots soaked in the stench of old oysters. Burlington Arcade provided her visitors with a dry passage & ensured they arrived fragment with finely polished boots, thanks to the free #shoeshine provided in the Arcade. I highly recommend Mohammed the current shoe shine in Burlington Arcade for while not free he is #debonair & erudite & a fountain of knowledge. What's more he serves up his shoeshine with a free espresso. #onlyinmayfair (at Burlington Arcade)
