Adding to The Backlog: Christmas Sale Pickups.
This is the time of year I pick up the most titles (which I then work on for the rest of the year.). And why not? Everything is on sale! I actually budget for this time of year.
It’s “Tales From The Backlog” not “We buy nothing until I finish the backlog”. The backlog will never be finished.
So let’s go over what I got! Links for everything will provided. As I find people are more likely to engage if the work was already done for them. Me included. This is not necessarily a suggestion list. If you want to see if any of these games are actually any good follow my blog. But I do think it’s interesting to show people what kind of gamer you are, the games you’re attracted to, their difficulty level.
A gamer’s library says a lot about a gamer, in my opinion.
For Playstation 5:
Goodbye Volcano High:
youtube
TLDR: I put this one first because if you don’t see any of the other games on my pickup list, I AT LEAST want you to consider this one. This was the only Playstation title I picked up on sale (It is also on Steam). This is pre(historic)-apocalyptic coming of age visual novel with killer animation and music. I’m surprised I don’t see folks talk about this one more. It’s maybe the most stunning looking visual novel to come out this year. (At least at a glance)
Which is a hefty claim considering titles like Jack Jeanne and Virche Evermore: Error Salvation dropped this year. I can’t WAIT to play this one.
For Nintendo Switch:
Roots of Pacha:
youtube
I came back around to this one. It looks like Stardew Valley but with cavemen. You don’t see cavemen touched on a lot anymore so it seems different and interesting.
Wylde Flowers:
youtube
This is one see that keeps popping up in conversations and videos as a great cozy game. It’s supposed to be really good. I’m honest enough to admit that it being on the Apple app store as well as Switch makes me REALLY skeptical. But I’ve seen enough gameplay where I’m willing to take a chance.
Coromon:
youtube
I enjoy Pokemon-like titles. I don’t think we get enough of them. I love Pokemon. And you’ll be seeing my update on how I feel about Scarlet/Violet’s last piece of DLC the Indigo Disc here pretty soon.
However Pokemon is so domineering on the market that a lot of these smaller collector games get unnoticed. This seems to be a very unapologetic Pokemon-clone much like Monster Crown. Which is fine by me.
Nexomon + Nexomon: Extinction bundle:
youtube
Another very obvious Pokemon clone. But it’s obviously prettier than its Coromon counterpart. (Kinda wish the names were more unique.) I have nothing new to say here.
Monster Sanctuary:
youtube
Pokemon… but it’s a Metroidvania. $3.99. I swear the theme wasn’t intentional they just all popped up on sale at decent prices.
2021 Moon Escape:
youtube
This is from the same people who did Traumatarium. I did a review on that one a few months back. It’s on sale for $2.49. And this ISN’T my cheapest pickup for this year. The gameplay reminds me of Zelda or Star Tropics. But I don’t know much about it other than what the trailer already shows us. But also it was $2.49. It’s okay with me if it’s just okay. Not all games have to be 10/10.
Mythic Ocean:
youtube
I have a soft spot for ocean games. Even the more spooky ones like Subnautica or Dredge still have this serene element to them. Mythic Ocean is no different. You apparently help a pantheon of gods find themselves. Which in turn those choices shape the world around you. Sounds simple, short, and cute. It looked a bit explorable too? We’ll see. I’m unsure about that part. It’s on sale for $1.99. And this was my cheapest pickup this season.
For Steam:
Sonic Forces: Overclocked (Steam version REQUIRED for this)
I have, in no uncertain terms. Have played this game. I 100%ed it even. I like the game. Played better but I still like it.
HOWEVER. I haven’t played Sonic Forces Overclocked. Which requires the PC version of Sonic Forces!
This is a FAN MADE incredible mod that blows the original game out of the water apparently. This is, perhaps, my most high priority game purchase of the YEAR. And it’s only $10 to buy Forces right now. This is literally a no brainer.
youtube
Slay The Princess:
youtube
I felt like videos on this one sprung up seemingly overnight on Youtube. I watched someone play the demo and it was an awesome looking game. A horror visual novel about saving a princess is a neat little premise. This one was barely on sale, but I see myself playing this one soon because of the hype. The full voice acting is great.
Magical Diary: Wolf Hall
Tumblr media
The original visual novel Magical Diary: Horse Hall was a game a friend showed me back in high school. Pretty innocent and cute. When this dropped in 2020 I was surprised the game got a sequel at all. The thing I remember most about Horse Hall was that there was a route where you could date Professor Snape. That wasn’t his name but… it might as well have been.

Note
a few thoughts:
1: With video games, the gang can enter the world of the game if it is a multiplayer game, or like a party game or something, and if it's a game like Minecraft or animal crossing they get an avatar that looks like them, while if they have pre existing characters like Mario kart then they either replace the character and are wearing their outfit, or they have some kind of indicator show up on them like the captures in Mario Odyssey. If it's a game where it doesn't make sense for them to be there, like a point and click game or something, then maybe they get a theatre and a controller, like that one anon suggested, or they can just wander around the game world without actively interacting with things or something. Or they can like, drag the mouse around with their hands and do stuff that way. Once they reach the max amount of players for a game, they become spectators, either joining as a background npc or crowd member or something, or if that doesn't make sense in the game universe then they get a theatre. So if the reader was playing Pokemon scarlet one of the random NPCs in a town would be replaced by them, and in the wilderness they either go to the theater or take the place of a pokemon that can't be battled while they are the Pokemon. In splatoon they could be a jellyfish ig. In a game like the original subnautica where isolation is the point they probably couldn't join the game at all.
2: maybe with the readers app thing, they could select areas and do stuff. Like how you can tell a Roomba to clean a specific area of your house? The reader could set up an area and while they're there they don't get teleported unless they want to, so if they don't want to go with the reader they can just stay home. The reader goes to the store and comes back to them having cleaned the house and made them a pie or something. Maybe they can set up an area that they can't go inside of without permission to keep them out of private areas, or so they can't mess with stuff while the reader works, or something like that.
3: if they are going insane about like, cheap ramen or something, id imagine if the reader knows how to cook they'd immediately be like "I am going to make the best meal these people have ever had" and saves up money to make a nice meal for them, and if they can't cook they just take them to a really nice restaurant, or get food from a relative or something. I'd take them to a good bakery and get them some sweet empanadas and cookies :)
4: your au is really good, love it, want to put it in my mouth like a marble, I have so many brain in my microwave rn. Good food. Tasty. If you are having a good time then keep making content. I just. 🎉🤩💝‼️🔈🔉🔊💯👍✅✴️🎼🔥🌟💌🫂🥭🍽️🥛🍉🎇🎁🏅🏆📢🗯️📈📕📖📝📩
Ahem (Puts on glasses)
Yes they can basically choose whether to join the reader's character in game where their looks will change to match that game's artstyle, they aren't counted as players as the games does no recognize them as such so there is no player limit
2. ... Spoilers for future chapters but there is a plan for that.
3.They would love that, I HC that the food in the digital world isn't exactly bland but there is like a hint of flavour there so it's like having a tastebud bomb when they taste the real world foods
4.I'm glad you like my au! Be careful with eating it though!

(fun fact, Pipevine swallowtails are one of the world's deadliest butterflies, apparently, due to them eating Pipevine plants as a caterpillar. After playing several games that were either Kinda Bad (Pokemon Scarlet, Cult of the Lamb, Rune Factory 5) or just ran poorly on the switch (Subnautica, also Cult of the Lamb) it's nice to play a game that runs well and is good (Harvestella).

Every game I played in 2022
I just thought it would be fun to write this out as a sort of recap. Oh, and the order is weird because I went through my favorites list on steam first, then just general "all". It made it a bit confusing I realize now, oh well. Also, I may have missed some. I don't remember every game played - I just went off memory and checked what I could. Sorry :c This is a stupidly long list. I play a lot of different games. Not all of these were "new" games, but they were played at least once in 2022. Steam: -60 Parsecs! -60 Seconds! Reatomized -Alan Wake -Bloons TD 6 -Control (2019) -Cult of the Lamb -Dead by Daylight -Dying Light -Dying Light 2 -Fall Guys -Frostpunk -Golf with your friends -Hitman 3 -Monster Hunter Rise -Only Cans: Thirst Date -Parkasaurus -Realm Royale -Slime Rancher -Slime Rancher 2 -Stacklands -Temtem -Two Point Campus -7 Days to Die -Among us -Ark: Survival Evolved -Armello -BioShock -Dead Island -Death and Taxes -Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth -Don't Starve -Elden Ring -The Forest -Hotline Miami -House Flipper -Inscryption -Loop Hero -Omori -Oxygen Not Included -Phasmophobia -Planet Zoo -Project Zomboid -Raft -Ring of Pain -Rust -Satisfactory -SCP: Containment Breach -Sid Meier's Civilization V -Slay the Spire -The Standley Parable -Stray -Subnautica -Super Animal Royale -Terraria -Trove -The Unfinished Swan -Unrailed! -Uno -Video Horror Society -CS:GO -Darkwood -Hacknet -"If Found.." -Monster Prom -Paladins -Payday 2 -Second Extinction -Space Engineers Switch Games: -Pokemon Scarlet/Violet -Pokemon Sword/Shield -Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX -Pokemon Legends Arceus -Pokemon Snap -Rocket League -Fortnite -Death Road to Canada -Animal Crossing: New Horizon -My Hero One's Justice 2 -Night in the Woods Misc. Games: -Minecraft -Pokemon Uranium -Pokemon Fusion -Pokemon Insurgence -PokeMMO -Devil Survivor 2: Record Break (Emulated) -Poptropica (Flashpoint) -Wizard101 -Pirate101 -Legends of Runeterra -WoW Classic -Genshin Impact -Destiny 2

PS5 Games: Complete List of Titles for Next-Gen Console
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Sony wants to follow-up on the historic success of the PlayStation 4 with its next-gen console, the unsurprisingly named PlayStation 5. With the PlayStation brand stronger than ever before, many people are already predicting that Sony could be in the driver’s seat heading into the next-generation of console gaming.
But that doesn’t mean a thing if you ain’t got those games. Sony will launch the PS5 with both a series of first-party exclusives and many next-gen third-party titles. Could these games be enough to beat out the Xbox Series X’s confirmed list of titles?
Below, you’ll find a breakdown of the launch titles you’ll get on the PS5 as well as the PS4 games you’ll be able to upgrade to their PS5 versions for free and the PlayStation Collections library you can expect to see on day one:
PS5 Launch Games
Here’s the list of all of the next-gen PS5 games you’ll be able to play when the console launches on Nov. 12:
Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla Astro’s Playroom Borderlands 3 Bugsnax Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War Demon’s Souls Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition Destiny 2: Beyond Light DiRT 5 Fortnite Godfall Just Dance 2021 Maneater Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate NBA 2K21 No Man’s Sky Observer: System Redux Planet Coaster: Console Edition Sackboy: A Big Adventure The Pathless Warhammer: Chaosbane – Slayer Edition Watch Dogs Legion
PS4 Games Getting Free PS5 Upgrades
PlayStation players will be able to upgrade select PS4 titles to their PS5 versions free of charge. You’ll be able to do this either with a digital copy of the PS4 title you wish to upgrade (if available for upgrade) or with the PS4 game disc of the title you want to upgrade. Sony has instructions on how to do this here.
Here’s the list of PS4 games you’ll be able to upgrade to their PS5 versions:
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Borderlands 3 Cyberpunk 2077 Dead by Daylight Destiny 2 Dirt 5 Doom Eternal Far Cry 6 FIFA 21 Hitman 3 (Digital Only) Horizon Forbidden West Immortals Fenyx Rising Kena: Bridge of Spirits Madden NFL 21 Maneater Marvel’s Avengers Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom Mortal Kombat 11 RIDE 4 Riders Republic Sackboy: A Big Adventure Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege The Elder Scrolls Online The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Watch Dogs Legion WRC 9 Yakuza: Like A Dragon
Can You Play PS4 Games on PS5?
The short answer is yes. Almost all of the over 4,000 games available for the PS4 will be compatible with the PS5, including PSVR games if you already own the PSVR headset and PlayStation Camera. You can even transfer digital games, game data, and game saves from your PS4 to the PS5 through LAN, wifi, USB drives, and cloud storage if you’re a PS Plus member. Here’s a breakdown of how that works.
As for how playing PS4 games on a PS5 will improve those experiences, here’s what Sony has to say about that: “Select PS4 titles will see increased loading speeds on the PS5 console, and will also leverage Game Boost, offering improved or more stable frame rates. Some titles with unlocked frame rates or dynamic resolution up to 4K may see higher fidelity. Additionally, PS4 games will also take advantage of some of PS5’s new UX features, but more to come on that later.”
You will, of course, also be able to play PS4 game discs on the PS5.
Some PS4 titles won’t be playable on PS5 at all, but we don’t think these omissions will send you into much of a frenzy. Here’s the list of PS4-only games:
DWVR Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge 2 Just Deal With It! Shadow Complex Remastered Robinson: The Journey We Sing Hitman Go: Definitive Edition Shadwen Joe’s Diner
PlayStation Collection Launch Games
In addition to the next-gen PS5 launch titles, PS Plus users will also have access to a collection of PS4 titles on the PS5 simply called the PlayStation Collection. Here are the PlayStation Collection games available on PS5 at launch:
Battlefield 1 Batman: Arkham Knight Bloodborne Days Gone Detroit: Become Human Fallout 4 Final Fantasy 15 God of War (2018) Infamous: Second Son Monster Hunter World Mortal Kombat 10 Persona 5 Ratchet and Clank Resident Evil 7 The Last of Us: Remastered The Last Guardian Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Until Dawn

TIL that holding small fish essentially gives you extra lives in reaper territory.
That normal “one hit kill” grapple they pull when they catch you on low health? Well, when you hand-feed them, they technically aren’t actually attacking you, like any other native predator accepting a handout, so you’re fine. The animation just happens to still play when the player is at this HP, which did confuse me a bit at first. I’ve repeated this result about 4 times now without fail on survival mode.

So, I heard y’all really like the spooky kelp.
Great thing I do too. I’m finally at a point in my current play where I’m ready to move the starter base to a permanent spot, but I see there that you all made a perfect tie (35% to 35%) with your recommendations. I think I finally got an idea for how to thank you and meet ya in the middle.
The main base of operations is fully decided now on being built deep within the blood trench. Already got a good moon pool and basics put up right there just above the local lost river entrance.
For the BK islands, I’m drawing up some plans for an alien zoo now. Big complex I want to set down, either around that area’s own lost river entrance or the crater edge. The time it’s going to take me to get the resources together (we only ball in survival mode) will give me a chance to make a decision. We won’t hurt the leviathan there, and after the whole thing’s done I’d love to lure it a little closer to an observatory. One room for about 9 distinct biomes, every breedable creature/plant in the game. Excited to share the project later on. Still getting around to building the cyclops right now :)

I am so glad someone asked! See, I got into a little bit of experimenting in the sparse reef with releasing tame wildlife, and here’s a few things I’ve noted about some common ideas for outdoor “base pets/guards” I’ve tried out.
Tumblr media
Now I know for one that most captive raised predators are supposed to be at least neutral to the player upon release. Ideally you would want that dolphin sized carnivore outside your hatch to be focused on cleaning up the hostiles around your home instead of grabbing you every time you exited a hatch. In my experience, and this could be the result of bugs that have since been patched, crabsnakes and crabsquids have always been a little unpredictable when it comes to clearing this bar.
I’ve had both instantly attack me upon leaving my inventory, and crabsquids in particular are so tech/light hostile that they make pretty awful additions to the area no matter what, unless you love the occasional base-wide power blackout every time it decides to let off a pulse close enough to the hull. They didn’t even deserve to be in this consideration list. I have a small suspicion as well that crabsnake AI is a little finicky outside of their home range, because they don’t have designated cave shroom patrol routes like the wild ones. Amp eels are in a similar vein to gasopods, technically neutral, but not harmless due to natural defenses. In the eel’s case, an electrical shock, and in the gasopod’s, their acid pod droppings.
And speaking further about the latter, gasopods are broadly pretty useless, at least to me, outside of being nice to listen to. I don’t really invest at all into torpedos, but if you do, I guess free acid pods could be my trash and your treasure.
Sand sharks and bone sharks are on par with each other, being fairly territorial toward other lifeforms but also reliably chill around the player once released. The same, however, absolutely cannot be said for your vehicles. Bone sharks are still attracted to light sources and both still readily take a nibble on your unattended moth/prawn.
Stalkers now, stalkers actually have quite a bit going for them. Just like wild ones, they still love to play around with metal savage and will occasionally drop teeth. Anyone who has played far enough into the game can see why a safe and near-instant source of enameled glass is absolutely fantastic; big however, I actually cannot stand stalkers near my base. They are almost as annoying as crabsquids in their own respect, because they are even more hostile to your technology than anything else on the list. They are a nightmare around scanner rooms because they WILL steal your cameras as toys and run off with them. Not only are they just as aggressive towards smaller vehicles, but they like to test their teeth on your cyclops as well. Sure, they can’t actually put a dent in the hull, but they really like to endanger themselves while you’re piloting it. My tooth farm always stays a healthy distance away from where I park all my things for good reason.
Finally, there was one more con to all of these I didn’t even consider until I accidentally discovered this pro about the Mesmer-
It can take down much larger creatures than itself without enduring a single scratch, and it’s incredibly fun to watch in action.
Like all of the other predators, captive Mesmers are pretty happy to wander around where you release them and occasionally chase after small fish to eat. What I did not consider was that the player is not the only creature they are willing to use that fun gimmick of theirs on. I learned this one time when I released a mes near a base I had set up in the grassy plateau biome. Within a few in-game days, I noticed the former presence of *sand sharks* around my setup had gone practically silent. Curiously, I released a fresh one out of containment to see if it would try to attack the Mesmer still lingering around.
And to my amazement, rather than directly attack it the way Mesmers will small fish, it turned around and used its hypnotic ability on the sand shark… and it freaking worked. You could literally see the larger predator very slowly closing in on the creature until the Mesmer took a hefty bite and sent it fleeing. A couple loops of this cycle and the thing was dead in good time. I still have to test this out with some other fauna but I can say for sure that local sand sharks can be pretty much wiped out by a single individual. Incredibly effective invasive species lmao. Most of all I’m extremely curious to know if this works on Warpers, so in the future I might be testing out releasing some Kharra infected ones near a precursor base.
And in the name of sprinkling in a bit of personal bias, I just find Mesmers pretty neat to watch once they stop trying to kill you. My favorite one occasionally clips through the base and doesn’t seem to eventually wander off somewhere else the way bonesharks and stalkers tend to. But best of freaking all they leave your freaking stuff alone. Absolutely harmless toward your gear and your submersibles, which is more than even tiger plants (stupid base-flooding weeds) have going for them.
But yeah just my two and half cents on the matter!

Xbox Series X Games: Complete List of Titles Coming to Next-Gen Console
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
The Xbox Series X and Series S are Microsoft’s next-gen consoles that will bring all-new graphics, faster load times, and plenty of ways to enjoy all of the games you love digitally through Xbox Game Pass, the Smart Delivery system, and backward compatibility. We’ve learned quite a bit about the Xbox Series X and Series S’s impressive specs as well as what the consoles look like. In fact, based on what we know so far, it looks like the Xbox Series X will be very stiff competition for Sony’s PlayStation 5.
But console wars always come down to one thing: the games. The Xbox Series X and Series S already has quite a few first-party and third-party titles in its lineup, including flagship titles like Halo Infinite, Avowed, and the new Fable. What else do you have to look forward to playing on the Xbox Series X?
Here’s a rundown of all the launch games, Smart Delivery titles, and the full list of titles confirmed for Xbox Series X/S so far:
Xbox Series X Launch Games
While the Xbox Series X isn’t launching with any major first-party next-gen exclusives, it will have several first-party Optimized for Series X/S re-launches, such as Gears 5, Sea of Thieves, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps. You should also expect quite a few third-party titles on the console on Nov. 10, also fully Optimized for Series X/S.
All of these Optimized for Series X/S titles will be available in the Microsoft Store, with many also available as part of your Xbox Game Pass subscription. Xbox Smart Delivery will also enable players to upgrade current-gen versions of select titles to the next-gen Optimized version free of charge, including Asssasin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs: Legion.
This list doesn’t count the hundreds of backward compatible Xbox One, Xbox 360, and original Xbox games that will be playable on the console at launch.
Here’s the full list of launch games:
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (Smart Delivery) Borderlands 3 (Smart Delivery) Bright Memory 1.0 Cuisine Royale (Smart Delivery) Dead by Daylight (Xbox Game Pass + Smart Delivery) Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition DIRT 5 (Smart Delivery) Enlisted Evergate The Falconeer (Smart Delivery) Fortnite Forza Horizon 4 (Xbox Game Pass + Smart Delivery) Gears 5 (Xbox Game Pass + Smart Delivery) Gears Tactics (Xbox Game Pass + Smart Delivery) Grounded (Xbox Game Pass + Smart Delivery) King Oddball (Smart Delivery) Maneater (Smart Delivery) Manifold Garden (Smart Delivery) NBA 2K21 Observer: System Redux Ori and the Will of the Wisps (Xbox Game Pass + Smart Delivery) Planet Coaster (Smart Delivery) Sea of Thieves (Xbox Game Pass + Smart Delivery) Tetris Effect: Connected (Xbox Game Pass + Smart Delivery) The Touryst (Xbox Game Pass + Smart Delivery) War Thunder (Smart Delivery) Warhammer: Chaosbane Slayer Edition Watch Dogs: Legion (Smart Delivery) WRC 9 FIA World Rally Championship (Smart Delivery) Yakuza: Like a Dragon (Smart Delivery) Yes, Your Grace (Smart Delivery)
