Elliot has been playing bass guitar since he was fourteen. He played upright bass in middle school (rented from a local music shop) until he was in the ninth grade (where being in marching band ((where he sat down a majority of the time as a string player)) got him out of gym class) before switching instruments and doing an independent study for bass guitar outside of class. Playing an instrument gave him both privacy and admiration from his mother— two things he found he wanted more and more as he grew older. Well. Moreso the former than the latter.

I’m debating making this an open verse, where other roleplayers can play in a band with Elliot! Right now, I imagine that he, Darlene, and Angela all play in a band. Thinking their sound is a mix between The Killers and Flor.

I have so many more headcanons for this verse, but I’m gonna be writing a fic in this verse on AO3, so if you wanna know ‘em, you’ll have to see ‘em there!!

headcanon: though elliot ‘seeing’ mr robot is often read as esmail displaying schizophrenia through visual hallucinations, i see this storytelling element more as mr robot, an alter, being co-conscious with elliot. he feels as if he sees him, and he sees him interact and talk to people, but this is mr robot giving elliot intrusive thoughts on what he would do in his shoes, or what he genuinely does when he fronts. in his mind eye, sure— he sees mr robot how mr robot visualizes himself, as the late mr alderson— but mr robot isn’t physically there in his line of sight. he might have a delusion that he is, and he certainly believes he hallucinates him (“because my dead father is standing behind you right now”) but i hc this just isn’t the case. maladaptive daydreaming, maybe, when they’re alone. but not visual hallucinations.

tl;dr: i hc that elliot does have schizophrenia (he displays many symptoms in various ways) but ‘seeing’ mr robot is a facet of elliot’s d.i.d., not esmail giving a ‘roughly inaccurate’ portrayal of schizophrenia.

headcanon: the ‘server room incident’ happened at elliot’s previous place of employment before angela got him a job at AllSafe— NewWave Technical Solutions.

the position was just another cyber security engineering position, but we know from the show that elliot’s coworkers didn’t give much of a shit about him. they thought his social anxiety stemmed from a haughtier, more self-satisfied vein, and nobody was too fond of him, there. they thought locking him in the server rooms was genuinely funny, having tossed in a water bottle and a packet of crackers before locking the door.

elliot still feels horribly upset whenever he sees crackers, which makes him feel even more spiteful towards himself.
