People that say "oh water foesnt have a taste!! any water is good" are fools that unknowingly prove they just cant Taste Good water. A good filtered water is the most refreshing thing on earth. Fill a water bottle with water from one of those sip fountains and take a drink and experience Bad Water. There is Good And Bad Water take my fucking word for it and appreciate that you didnt have circumstanves where you didnt have clean water to drink

All this aroace character shipcourse has proven to me that a majority of people that interact in fandom cannot actually interact with characters and media outside of shipping and genuinely I believe you need to learn how to interact with media outside of shipping.

i got almost all the next month's updates sketched! i'm not doing the last one simply because i am feeling the burn out of composing these pages. (each have at least 6 pages, a good amount have the max 12!)
that said, these are all just sketched. i want to do it in this order: backgrounds -> lineart -> transcript. i got other projects i need to work on (winning hat and NightFell) so I can't really guarantee when Tag will start to update again.
#ooc#for context i do have all the story beats planned aside from one specific character arc which i'm unsure what to do for yet#but otherwise i know who gets the focus where and what would loosely be discussed when#so tag is in a good spot writing wise but the loose nature of it makes scene to scenes both free and fun to make BUT#also makes me unsure of where its going and i won't really get the full sense of the scope of a scene until after the fact#for example this month of updates were planned at work so i had a detailed outline in mind but even that got like reworked as i made it.#for extra contrast on the scale of planning vs no plans#nightfell is meticulously planned and then created and then scrapped and reworked over and over and thats the whole process#meanwhile winning hats i have like. a loose character arc in mind for each character and a big scene or two in mind.#but thats it. each chapter i'll have some ideas spawned from making the previous but anything goes when making the chapter itself#so like in THEORY i love planning and i fully embrace it and think its so so so so important.#with AFR i benefited heavily when i planned things in detail! made a world of difference! but with these ISAT projects they work better on#the fly? maybe its the comedy nature maybe its me enjoying how idk whats going to happen just as much as the audience its like#idk its like im a fan of my own work so i get to enjoy it the same way the audience does lol. its fun#SORRY BUT IM NOT ACTUALLY SORRY FOR RAMBLING IM BEING POLITE ABOUT IT

Big news from the criminology trenches. Did you know that if you treat someone like a human being rather than Someone Who Will, We Know, For Sure And Undoubtedly, Commit A Crime, So We Must Lock Them Away Before Their Foul Words Can Infect Our Pure Minds, then conversations about cybercrime are more successful? i think keeping things a little more vague in terms of sexuality is helpful in most contexts! there's so much wiggle room overall in sexuality and labels, so being able to state a preference and then headcanon something more specific for your MC is nice sometimes. i tend to prefer more vague hand-wavy terms in IF for this reason--i can headcanon a lot onto my MC that isn't necessarily contained in the 4-5 labels it's easiest to code for. however, for games that are specifically dealing with and discussing MC's queerness, i find explicit labels preferable in that you can make more explicit options for explicit labels. but then you still can run into there being far too many labels to possibly ever cover every queer experience in one game, and that can be limiting. so, pros and cons for each. i'm excited for whatever you go with <3
Ahhh yeah you've fully landed on why I've gone in so many directions with this!! I appreciate your insights a ton <3
Because on one hand, I think being able to dig a little deeper re: queerness and the MC's experience is interesting, even though it isn't the main focus of the game. It's certainly something I'm planning for trans and nonbinary MCs, and I don't want cis queer MCs to miss out on those opportunities...
On the other hand, as you're saying, the true expanse of queerness is infinite, and limiting it to the more 'common' labels feels...not entirely ideal. Like, I know I'll never be able to account for everyone and their MC's--that's just impossible--but I also feel like I shouldn't limit things if I don't have to? Plus there is freedom in being able to headcanon the specifics when things are left a little more vague.
There's also just the very real issue of there only being so much one author can feasibly write.
Definitely a lot of pros and cons!! Regardless of the direction I end up going, I'm fairly certain I'll do a choice for the types of attraction MC experiences, to account for ace/aro identities and the variety those hold. That way if somebody wants to play a fully sex and romance repulsed ace/aro character they're not constantly being bombarded with flirt options.
Thank you again for the input! Much to think about~

april hater post
online artists love to invent all sorts of new ways to be unfunny online. a new type i have seen grow in recent years is something i have coined in my head as "arrow humor". the idea of arrow humor is that there is a character or something and instead of having an actual joke they put an arrow next to them and explain the entire joke there. you are an ARTIST!!! YOU CAN DRAW!!!! WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS!!!!!! now there are some exceptions i like (the "full of milk" kitten comes to mind) but almost always i feel the joke could have been better if it were actually illustrated. it's getting to me on the same level as when artists call their finished work "doodle" which is about the same amount of pettiness reserved for these kinds of posts

sever@nce: there was a controversy about someone's innie getting pregnant isn't that crazy. there's a woman who has an innie entirely to deal with giving birth isn't that crazy. this character got recruited into being a test subject at lum0n due to infertility isn't that crazy. this show is about the horror of losing bodily autonomy because of sharing your physical form with someone else isn't that crazy.
the fandom: it would be so boring and cliche if helen@ turns out to be pregnant. it would be such bad writing because i think pregnancy is icky and because other shows totally separate from sever@nce and its themes have handled pregnancy storylines badly in the past. this would be totally unnecessary to the show's purpose and totally uninteresting. i'm media literate btw.

"If the structure of your world ever evaporates, I will still be here."
I think The Q might contain one of the greatest declarations of friendship/love ever.
#books#the q#beth brower#this seems clunkier out of context but trust me in context it's very moving#they're discussing how quincy's entire world is wrapped up in work#so even if she likes the people there if the business somehow disappeared she probably wouldn't see them again#because they all have other family/friends to go to and she doesn't really have any#leading to this promise#and let me tell you it's just about enough to make me believe in found family#because this works as a romantic or platonic declaration#it's a promise#a commitment to provide safety and stability when there's nowhere else to go#and i love it#this book is so odd because i liked it quite a bit last year#then rereading i was at first like 'why did i like this at all?'#there's no scene-setting or character description it's just kind of stuff there#but then the relationship starts to develop and i am SO invested#under normal rules it shouldn't take 100 pages for the story to get good but in this case it's worth it#it's such an odd structure#each chapter is almost like its own little short story#or a character sketch#almost like the character have stopped to discuss their own character worksheet#but in context it somehow works#and it drives home how much traditional publishing and writing rules stifle creativity#because your average editor would look at this and try to smooth it over#make it all into one flowing narrative#and it would lose so much of what makes it unique and compelling#following the rules of 'good writing' robs you of all the stories that don't follow those rules#there is so much scope outside of the one 'best practice' that is currently in fashion#and those stories need to get told too!

like to be clear im not arguing that the mere mention of the avatar construct is Bad because that would be both batshit and silly. but also discussing it like it’s this quantitatively measurable or on/off state. is also a bit silly. in my opinion

i am having a blast reading through these conversations!!! it’s so nice to have a community where people can talk their mind about the sport and not get blasted by it.
i'm having a blast writing the responses (for the most part hehe) !! i think it's important to remember that despite things being up for debate due to the nature of f1, it is a sport and some things are written into the rulebook. i'm never gonna blast someone outright for wanting to discuss their opinions for the most part :))
lovely to hear from you mootie i am getting to your other ask i PROMISE (tugs at collar nervously) <3

My boyfriend and I were chatting about BG3 last night and we agreed on the least realistic interpersonal aspect in the game so far: your companions are WAY too functional specifically when it comes to respecting the romantic boundaries of others and are WAY too nice if Tav chooses someone over them. I was in between Shadowheart and Astarion, and ended up doing certain quests in one order and, realizing I didn't like that order for side-quest reasons, loaded an old save to reverse them. In the first order, the dialogue to solidify Shadowheart's romance came up first, in the second Astarion's came up first. If you agree to the romance and talk to the other in both instances, they are supportive of you (to varying extents) and, if you ask why you can't court both of them, they site the emotional experience/tolerance of the other as why Tav shouldn't do it and why they're not interested in getting involved regardless of they're own feelings.
Larean Studios really said no romantically messy queers /j
