Tired Around Midnight

[Dr. Kondraki X GN!Reader]

"How was your day at work?" You ask, looking up from your phone as the front door of your house closes with a soft click. It's rare that both you and Kondraki are at the foundation together, mostly because the foundation hates when spouses are in the same room at the same time. You don't work until tomorrow morning, when you barely cross paths with him at noon before you head home, and he heads in for the day.

It's safe to say that the two of you hardly see each other except for late, late at night. You wait up for him, and while Kondraki appreciates it so deeply, he worries about you for your shift in the morning.

"Long, tiring," the dark haired man replies as he shrugs off his coat, holding it haphazardly in his arms before running his fingers through his hair. "And you? How was your day?"

You hear him walking through the house, mostly changing into something more comfortable for the house. "The morning was fine," you start, "and well, relatively boring."

Kondraki hums in recognition of your words before returning back to the living room. He flashes a warm, tired smile at you. His green eyes check the TV screen, and he reads the time. Goodness, how is it already a quarter past midnight? He shakes his head, sighs and then plops down onto the sofa.

"Konny-" you watch with vague amusement as your husband moves over on the couch to the point he's fully stretched out on it, his head on your lap, strong arms wrapping around your waist. "It was a rough day, wasn't it?" You ask softly.

Kondraki sighs deeply before nodding. He peeks his gaze up at you before relaxing into your warmth. He doesn't want to lay all of that on you, but you can feel the energy regardless.

You smiles softly and reach your hands over, tossing your phone to the side gently before reaching over to touch him. Your hands begin to press over his shoulders and back. "Jeeze," you start as you work on him a little harder, "you're really, really tense. Huh?" You chuckle.

Kondraki mutters something against you to the effect of "uh-huh, sure," before melting further and further into your touch. He's slowly slipping from consciousness, wanting nothing more than to be comforted by his spouse's grasp. You've always had a habit of doing this for him, a massage when things got too stressful, and you know he becomes a puddle every time it happens.

You hum softly, briefly reaching for the remote of the TV to turn it down low, so your voice is the only thing that reaches his ears. You watch as his eyes continue to fall deeper and deeper into slumber, face that was twisted into a frown finally relaxing. His grip around your waist begins to loosen. "What a sweetheart," you murmur, one of your hands leaving his back to thread through his hair.

Kondraki hums against you, practically purring as your nails gently rake against his scalp. You've always put him into such a place of rest.

You chuckle to yourself, basking in the image of your husband at ease.
