Hey so I have been digging looking at old Junior slam results because I’m crazy and here is what I found (some is actual significant lore and some is just silly stuff):
Alex apparently was way better in doubles than singles. Maybe this is still true. That’s for you to decide. Anyway, during his run to the AO 22 dubs final, he and his partner Vallejo beat Jakub and his partner Bartoň. They lost to Bruno Kuzuhara and Coleman Wong in the final. Wong just BARELY missed out on Jeddah last year.
Learner’s first appearance is Wimby 22, where he made the quarters! Pretty impressive in my opinion.
Also in 22 Wimbledon, Joao lost to Sebastian Gorzny in round 2. That was Alex’s doubles partner. Who he won Wimbledon with that year…
Also also in 22 Wimbledon, we were very close to a doubles match between Alex and Joao. Exactly one super tiebreak away.
The first time I’ve seen Alex actually win a main draw singles match is USO 22. And he won two. Further proving that the boy is just much better on home soil.
Nishesh won USO dubs in 2022 with Ozan Baris. Then Learner won AO 23 with Cooper Williams Well, I guess the SoCalites were unstoppable in doubles at that point in time. This supports my SoCal world domination agenda!
Learner has actually beaten Joao!!! Twice!!! Red alert!!!! In 2023, they played their first ever singles match. Not the USO final, but actually, the RG quarters!!! Learner won 6-3 2-6 6-1. That’s the only time they’ve met on clay. Interesting.
So why did I say ‘singles match’? Well. Remember about a paragraph ago when I mentioned Learner winning AO. Guess who else was there.

YEAH. TIENSECA DOUBLES FINAL. THAT LEARNER WON. Ummmm WHAT?!!
I couldn’t find highlights or anything from the actual match, but here is the trophy ceremony with some cute little speeches :). I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS HAPPENED.
Learner also made the AO singles final that year, losing to… Joao’s fucking doubles partner. Yeah. Um. I also want to note that in the singles tournament, Learner bageled his opponents 4 times??? Including a double bagel in the quarters?
Joao made quarters in singles again and semis in doubles at Wimbledon 2023, losing to the eventual champion Henry Searle. I don’t think Learner played. Not sure why.
And then obviously we already know about the US Open that year hehehehe… Tienseca finallll
