A theme that I honestly wish was brought up more in black butler is the line from Ciel (at the end of boC) where he’s going on about the negative traits of humanity. (I’m using the dub wording cus I like the translation better)
“We’re more demonic then demons are!”
I’ve seen a few post complaining that Sebastian is misscharacterized as “too nice” when he’s really an evil and moral-less demon, which isn’t wrong.
But, truly, is Sebastian any more evil then other human characters we’ve seen in the series? The cult members who abused Ciel? Barron Kelvin? Sirglinde’s mother? Even Ciel himself?
I’ve always thought of Sebastian’s morals as being a reflection of humanities. Like he’s not some omnipotent god who cruelty exceeds human comprehension, he’s designed to match and reflect humanities cruelty.
I honestly find that to be a much more interesting way to view Sebastian and I wish there were more instances comparing demons and humans in the series.
