And then lastly...I made a comic to celebrate Underevent last night of the Goober Gang getting tickets.

Examining Standpoint Theory and the Second Shift to Reveal Gender Inequality

This blog post will examine the main ideas and conclusions of standpoint theory as well as "The Second Shift," discussing how they relate to current social issues and day-to-day experiences. We will examine the intricacies of gender inequality and develop tactics for promoting greater justice and equality in our communities, workplaces, and homes through an analysis that takes into account the intersecting influences of gender, class, and race. 

Our understanding of social dynamics has greatly benefited from Dorothy E. Smith's groundbreaking work in feminist sociology, especially from her development of standpoint theory. Stakeholder theory's central claim is that people's perspectives and worldviews are significantly shaped by their social positions within the larger societal structure, rather than being merely subjective reflections of individual experiences. This framework emphasizes the significance of taking into account the perspectives of oppressed and marginalized groups, challenging the idea of an objective truth. According to Smith's standpoint theory, people who are marginalized in society such as women, members of racial minorities, LGBTQ+ people, and other oppressed groups possess distinct perspectives and understandings that are frequently disregarded or ignored in the mainstream of sociological discourse. 

However, "The Second Shift," by Arlie Hochschild, offers a sophisticated examination of the complex dynamics pertaining to the division of domestic work among heterosexual couples. She explores the distribution of household chores between spouses in families where both partners are employed. She notes that in these dual-income homes, women frequently assume what she terms the "second shift." This concept describes the phenomenon where women, having finished their paid employment for the day, return home only to engage in significant amounts of unpaid domestic tasks and childcare. Hochschild points out that, although strides have been made towards gender equality in the workplace, challenges persist in achieving an equitable balance of domestic responsibilities. Her work directly tackles gender roles and expectations, showing how deeply ingrained societal norms about femininity and masculinity dictate the division of labor at home. Yet these gender roles are not innate or biologically determined but are instead the result of social processes that dictate the division of labor. Having said that, class introduces added complexity to balancing work and family, with socioeconomic status influencing the unique challenges and resources available to families. Higher-income families may hire domestic help, easing the burden of the second shift, while lower-income families, lacking this option, experience heightened stress. Employment type and hours also differ by class, as working-class jobs typically have less flexibility and more demanding schedules, exacerbating the challenge of managing both work and family duties.

The studies of Dorothy E. Smith and Arlie Hochschild both go deeply into the complex problems of gender inequality and the formation of gender roles, offering contrasting viewpoints that deepen our comprehension of these intricate phenomena. Hochschild's analysis of the second shift highlights the concrete effects of gendered labour divisions within families, highlighting the unequal burden that women bear in juggling paid work and household duties. Smith, on the other hand, provides a theoretical framework in his standpoint theory that explores the more intricate mechanisms and processes by which gender influences people's experiences and viewpoints. The theoretical ideas presented in these multimedia materials are relevant to today's social issues because they illuminate important issues like gender inequality in the workplace, the persistence of traditional gender roles, and the difficulties women face in juggling paid work and household responsibilities. These theories shed light on the fundamental processes that sustain systemic inequality and provide important new directions for social change. Furthermore, these theories lay the groundwork for intersectional analyses, which are crucial for tackling the complex realities of modern society, by acknowledging the connections between gender dynamics and other points of identity like race, class, and sexuality.

She's awesome. These are her characters Cibil (left), Ash (middle(kinda)), and Decay (right). They're AU versions of Poppy, Dusted, and Rust. They're peam.

This was actually a lot of fun to make. It's fun to design Christmas outfits for characters, I need to to it more. And I'm quite pleased with the end result. It came out pretty much as I imagined it, which is always awesome.

I also made a drawing to celebrate today as not only New Year's Eve, but also as the birthday of my good friend Proctor Dorkchop!
