I am forever moderately amused by the fact that I have a biology degree but somehow wound up with a biologist OC whose specialty is not at all what mine is.

like, don't get me wrong, I love amphibians and reptiles. I used to volunteer for a summer camp where I got to show off amphibians and reptiles to kids and tell them all about the creepy crawly critters.

but my specialty is microorganisms. the macroorganisms I've done the most schooling in are invertebrates, in particular molluscs. which are not the purview of a herpetologist.

but character development just sort of happened and now I have a herpetologist OC.

#tbf I know enough that I don't often need to google things when I have Angie talk about what she does #(other than scientific names bc I sometimes forget those)#like I know more about reptiles and amphibians than the average person #you have to get a good base for all the kinds of biology before you can specialize #but I still think it's funny I made Angie a biologist Like Me and she accidentally wound up doing the stuff I Do Not #that's what happens with OCs tho #a lot of times they just sort of...develop a life of their own #as you write them they end up different than you originally planned #which I think is a sign of a good writer #you have to be able to adjust to changing situations #don't dedicate yourself to one ending bc when you get there it might not wind up the proper one #see: the ending of HIMYM vs the ending of LoK #anyways I'll stop rambling in the tags I have to get ready for my MRI #speecher speaks
