Thursday is ‘sort day’
I cannot deny that Thursday is the busiest day of the week for me. Right now, I am starting to feel like Thursday is my first day of the week just because I dread it more than Mondays.
Preparing 54 SLM (self-learning materials) kits is no joke, for I have to deal with such a task with all my might. A single mistake in sorting materials into the kits would cost me to check each one before I could start packing again.
Based on my self-monitoring, it normally takes me around 1-2 hours to prepare the kits, but this estimation is subject to change depending on the following:
availability of printed modules (if there are none provided, then I have to print them all on my own: 10-20-paged module per week x 235+ Grade 11 students)
number of special assignments I have to accomplish in a certain week (may that be from the Region, Division, or District)
my remaining amount of energy (based on my hours of sleep)
Sadly, Thursday is also the most stressful day of the week for me, for on this day, I am reminded of the number of unclaimed SLM kits and the long overdue submissions that I have yet to check on. But that's okay, for I know everyone's having a hard time dealing only with printed modules without the physical intervention and presence of a human teacher.
That is why at times, it pains me to think of how long do we need to go through this seemingly never-ending cycle of printing, sorting, collecting, checking, and grading...
Attending meetings one after the other, signing up for online courses at the same time pursuing graduate studies, participating in two to three webinars and live-streamed talks all at the same time because rewatching them is no longer plausible after work hours...
Waking up everyday and going to work, thinking of your students and what the future has in store for them (though you haven't even seen or met all of them yet in person and the emotional attachment is not that strong yet, I guess), and fighting for your dreams—one dream at a time...
All these and more on top of our sworn duties as public school teacher and our personal life. #worklifebalance
To you watching this video right now, remember to take care of yourself always and do your best to not catch the virus. And I hope you get to spend your 'me time' in peace despite your busy days and hell weeks.
We are down to the last day of this week, and tomorrow is a new beginning. Which day next week will you be at your busiest?
