I was thinking back to the post I made about ebooks being so much more accessible for so many people compared to paperbacks/hardbacks and the other thing I wanted to add is the vast, vast majority of the time, the author gets so much more profit comparatively for an ebook than a paperback/hardback.
That's not a problem for huge huge huge authors either way, but for small-time authors, or authors with small publishing houses, the difference in profits can sometimes be $2.00 or $3.00 per ebook sold vs. $0.50c or $1.00 per paperback. Really. You pay more, but the author gets a lot less.
In the case of indie authors like myself, ebooks give the highest returns always.
This isn't necessarily something most readers think about, but I have had readers assume that because the book format cost them more, that automatically means more goes to the author. In fact it's often the opposite. There are very few exceptions (university texts come to mind). But in the case of your run-of-the-mill indie fiction, if you genuinely want the most profit to go to the author, get the ebook.
#asks and answers#ebooks more than any other format - audio / paperback / hardback#almost always return profits the fastest#it's hard to explain#but yeah that's how it goes#there are exceptions just like#there are exceptions to everything#also the most expensive format for any author is audio#this is why so many indie authors are straight up using Gen-AI to produce audiobooks#a novel costs around $4000-6000 USD to record in audio#and most indie novels only ever make $1000 over their lifetime if that#for many authors they are either vanity projects#or they thought they'd earn out the loss and then realise just how broke they are#for all that accessibility is extremely important#audiobooks and the cost have killed indie careers#keep it in mind before asking an author to create an audiobook#that's only ever going to sell about 50 copies sdlakfjdas

Hi, happy spooky month, I have a ✨manga rec✨!! And in the spirit of the season, it's a horror story! >:3c
I want to spoil as little as possible because I went into this manga essentially COMPLETELY blind and, honestly, imho, I imagine it's the ideal way to experience the story. I literally first heard about it from a random youtube comment on a video about an entirely different manga--one which, mind you, had VERY different themes, which colored my preconceptions and added to the surprises for me later on!
ANYWAY, what I mean by all that is I'm going to start with the simplest possible summary of the premise, and if that's intriguing enough for you to give it a shot, then I recommend diving right in!! But, if you still need more of an in-depth, slightly spoilery rec? Then I'll gush a bit more under a cut to see if I can hook your attention.
With all that out of the way,
The Summer Hikaru Died is a horror/supernatural story about a high school boy named Yoshiki whose best friend (Hikaru) went missing in the mountains outside of town. What comes back is... something else. It looks, acts, and talks like Hikaru, but it's not him, and Yoshiki is the only one who seems to notice.
The only other thing I knew going in was that the commenter made a brief mention of the "Hikaru"-thing protecting Yoshiki, which seemed odd but intriguing alongside the rest of the premise.
So if that's enough for you (plus the fact that I'm telling you I haven't stopped thinking about this story since I read it two weeks ago), then please check it out! There are only 5 volumes so far!! Suffer through the wait for the rest with meeeeee ಥωಥ
More spoilery extended rec below the cut:
📣THESE MOTHERFUCKERS GAY*!!!📣
📣GOOD📣FOR📣THEM!!!📣
I know what you're thinking, and YES, it appears to be BL between the TIMID HIGH SCHOOL BOY and the ELDRITCH HORROR WEARING THE SKIN OF HIS BEST FRIEND.
And it's SO GOOD.
No SERIOUSLY, for real though, I had NO inkling going into this that it was even in the realm of possibility that it would involve romance
Let alone a nuanced, slow burn, VERY QUEER romance layered with ruminations on grief and identity and one's relationship to society
(ON THIS NOTE, I must advise up front that I DO NOT KNOW if this story will end in tragedy... It's still ongoing, after all! BUT, I think either way it will be an amazing story and... maybe I'm just delusional, and though this may be considered spoilery in itself, the most recent chapters have me optimistic that we might indeed be on track for some sort of happy ending... eventually.)
Anyway, I cannot express enough how incredible it was to uncover this aspect of the story organically without knowing about it beforehand. Born and raised in a rural village, Yoshiki is deep in the closet, and that's reflected in how subtle the hints are at the beginning. Over time, it starts to become clearer and clearer, but always with a layer of plausible deniability, at least if you're not expecting it to take such a queer turn. ("Hikaru" literally makes a ton of "no homo" style jokes early on, which... god don't get me started--)
As you might guess, Yoshiki had feelings for the real Hikaru before his disappearance, and ooh boy does that affect how much the grief and guilt and fear play into things. It's delightfully fucked up.
So yeah. I 100% expected the plot of this manga to revolve around the intrigue of the monster finding out Yoshiki knew its secret, the fear of not knowing when the monster would strike next, etc, but NO! That particular "reveal" happens within the first 10 pages, and then the entity just kind of... lives the life of a high school kid! He's kind of a little shit, but for the most part, he's a nice boy! Yoshiki is the only one who knows who "Hikaru" really is, but much of the tension comes from him having to come to terms with that, rather than the fear itself.
...and also the OTHER horrors and mysteries. There's tension there too, considering it's where the actual plot lies, lmAO. Just because "Hikaru" isn't a totally evil monster doesn't mean there aren't a lot of grotesque and scary things in here. Most of this manga I would classify more in the "supernatural" genre than "horror", but in those moments it DOES delve into horror, it goes pretty damn hard. I remember more than one moment where I felt sharp regret about reading it in the dark at 2 a.m. 💀
Still, if you dare, it's worth the read. I can't recommend it enough.
P.S. I wouldn't say it's a "funny" manga but it does nonetheless have an amazing sense of humor. There are a handful of actual jokes and gags that did have me rolling, but more importantly there's an unspoken, implicit acknowledgement of how absurd this all is, in that way only good self-aware horror can achieve. Take the main character Yoshiki for example. The image I used of him up above? The unsettling camera angle, the haunted look in his eyes? That's just how he always looks. The panel after that one shows that all he's looking at on his phone is a text from his sister reminding him to pick up wasabi flakes.
P.P.S. There's apparently an anime adaptation coming out sometime? I'll probably watch it, but I expect something will be lost in translation. We'll see, I suppose.
*- To be precise: Yoshiki is gay. The creature that takes Hikaru's place has a more nuanced (and alien) perspective on sexuality, and... I'll leave it at that.
#The Summer Hikaru Died#body horror/#eye trauma/#all but the latest volume have been officially released in English so I will likely be buying them soon to show support 👀#also I've only read through chapter 28 but the bookstore's website seems to be selling ebooks of the chapters through chapter THIRTY?👀👀👀#I shall investigate this matter further.... *steeples fingers ominously*#btw I meant for this post to be ready by Oct 1st but this week has been kind of crazy so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯#there's still plenty of month left though for anyone who wants to read something atmospheric for the season!

How I Increased My Sales by 5x – A Proven Step-by-Step Strategy
Every business owner dreams of multiplying their sales. In a highly competitive market, getting even a 20% increase in sales feels like a victory — so imagine what a 5x jump can do for your brand, income, and confidence. I managed to increase my sales fivefold in just a few months, not by luck or magic, but by applying proven strategies, consistent testing, and customer-first thinking.
In this blog, I’m sharing the exact steps I took to grow my sales dramatically — and how you can apply them to your business starting today.
1. Deeply Understand Your Target Customer
Before trying to grow sales, I realized I needed to understand who I was selling to. The mistake most businesses make is trying to sell to “everyone.” That never works.
What I Did:
Conducted surveys using Google Forms and WhatsApp.
Asked existing customers why they bought from me.
Studied my competitors’ reviews to find customer pain points.
Result:
I created a customer persona — their age, income, habits, fears, and goals. That allowed me to craft offers and messages that hit the right emotional trigger.
2. Create an Irresistible Offer (Not Just a Product)
A product or service alone doesn’t guarantee sales. What matters is how irresistible the offer is.
What I Did:
Bundled products together at a better price.
Added free bonuses (eBooks, guides, limited support).
Created urgency through limited-time discounts.
Result:
Conversion rates increased because people felt they were getting more value than they paid for. I wasn’t just selling — I was solving a problem with a complete solution.
3. Optimize the Sales Funnel
Your sales funnel is the path a customer takes from discovering you to making a purchase. Most businesses leak money because their funnel is broken or incomplete.
What I Did:
Created a landing page with a clear message and call-to-action.
Used WhatsApp for lead follow-ups.
Automated email sequences for abandoned carts and follow-ups.
Result:
Leads stopped slipping away. My conversions grew 2x just by fixing the funnel and staying in touch.
4. Use Social Proof to Build Trust
People don’t trust brands — they trust other people. When I realized this, I started using social proof everywhere.
What I Did:
Collected testimonials from happy customers (text + video).
Showcased before/after results.
Shared screenshots of real customer feedback on Instagram and Facebook.
Result:
New customers were no longer “cold.” They came in warm and ready to buy because others had already trusted me.
5. Focused on Retargeting and Repeat Buyers
Getting new customers is expensive. Selling again to someone who already trusts you is smart.
What I Did:
Retargeted website visitors with Facebook/Instagram ads.
Sent special offers to past customers on WhatsApp and email.
Launched a loyalty/referral program.
Result:
Old customers came back with bigger orders. Some even brought in friends. My Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) increased significantly.
6. Improved My Online Presence
Visibility = opportunity. The more people saw me, the more I sold.
What I Did:
Posted reels, tips, and success stories on Instagram and YouTube Shorts.
Went live once a week to build trust.
Added SEO blogs to my website with keywords like “best [product] under ₹999.”
Result:
Organic traffic and followers increased. People found me more easily, and sales kept coming without running ads all the time.
7. Delivered Amazing Customer Experience
No sales strategy works if your customer experience is weak. I made sure every buyer felt valued.
What I Did:
Quick replies on WhatsApp/Instagram DM.
Fast delivery and clear instructions.
Thank-you messages after each purchase.
Result:
I started receiving 5-star reviews, and referrals increased. People trust those who treat them well — and they repay you with loyalty.
8. Analyzed and Adapted Weekly
Every Sunday, I reviewed the week’s performance.
What I Tracked:
Ads performance (CTR, ROI)
Website conversion rate
Most popular products and customer questions
Result:
I stopped guessing and started scaling what worked. If a product wasn’t converting, I replaced or repositioned it.
Final Thoughts: Consistency Wins
Growing sales by 5x wasn’t instant. It took 90+ days of consistent effort, testing, failing, learning, and improving. The key is to never stop learning and adapting. What worked for me was listening to customers, simplifying my message, and focusing on value — not just selling.
If you want to increase your sales, pick even three of these strategies and apply them consistently for one month. You’ll be surprised at the momentum you can build — and once it starts, it multiplies fast.
Want help building a 5x sales strategy for your business? Drop a message or leave a comment — I’d love to hear from you!

THE QUEENS OF PEMBERLY: A Pride and prejudice variations
By Jillian Atkinson
Chapter 1: The Duchess of Pemberley

Elizabeth Bennet stood poised at the edge of an abyss she could neither see nor fathom, her heart a tumult of elation and dread. The vast halls of Pemberley stretched before her, their towering arches and ancient stone walls bearing witness to centuries of grandeur and whispered secrets. Today, those walls would witness her transformation—from a spirited gentlewoman of modest means to the Duchess of Pemberley, bound in matrimony to Fitzwilliam Darcy, a man whose pride and tenderness had once seemed irreconcilable.
The air thrummed with anticipation, heavy with the fragrance of lilies and the faint musk of polished oak. Guests filled the cavernous space, their silks and satins rustling like leaves in an autumn breeze. Chandeliers glittered overhead, casting prisms of light that danced across the marble floor, illuminating the path Elizabeth would soon tread. Her gown, a cascade of ivory lace and shimmering silk, clung to her frame, its weight a reminder of the mantle she was about to assume. She smoothed her hands over the fabric, her fingers trembling despite her resolve.
Behind her, her sisters stood in a constellation of contrasting temperaments. Jane, radiant and serene, offered a smile that steadied Elizabeth’s nerves, her eyes aglow with unspoken pride. Lydia, ever restless, twisted a curl around her finger, her gaze flitting about the room as if seeking mischief amid the solemnity. Mary, rigid and austere, clutched a prayer book, her lips moving silently in some private litany. Kitty, flushed with excitement, shifted from foot to foot, her whispered giggles barely contained. Together, they were a tether to the life Elizabeth had known—a life now slipping through her fingers like sand.
The organ swelled, its notes reverberating through the hall, and Elizabeth took her first step forward. The aisle stretched endlessly before her, lined with faces both familiar and foreign. Nobles clad in velvet and brocade murmured behind their fans, their eyes sharp with curiosity or veiled disdain. Among them sat Mr. Charles Bingley, Darcy’s steadfast friend, whose boyish grin and warm nod eased the tightness in her chest. Beside him, Lady Catherine de Bourgh presided like a queen in exile, her stern visage framed by a severe black bonnet, her disapproval etched in every line of her countenance.
Elizabeth’s breath hitched as she caught sight of Darcy at the altar, a figure of imposing elegance in his tailored coat and crisp linen. His dark hair gleamed in the candlelight, and his eyes—those fathomless eyes that had once judged her so harshly—now held a softness that pierced her soul. She remembered their early clashes, the barbs exchanged beneath the veneer of civility, and the slow unraveling of his heart that had led them here. Now, as she drew nearer, she felt the pull of him, an invisible thread that bound her to this moment.
The officiant, a wiry man with a voice that carried like a bell, began the rites. “Dearly beloved, we are gathered here in the sight of God and this company…” His words blurred into a hum as Elizabeth’s mind raced. Beyond this day lay a future she could scarcely comprehend—a labyrinth of royal duties, glittering courts, and the stewardship of an estate vast enough to rival a small kingdom. She would no longer be merely Elizabeth Bennet, but a duchess, a title that carried both privilege and peril.
“Do you, Elizabeth Bennet, take Fitzwilliam Darcy to be your lawfully wedded husband?” The question cut through her reverie, sharp and insistent.
“I do,” she answered, her voice clear despite the storm within. She met Darcy’s gaze, and the flicker of relief in his expression sent a shiver down her spine.
He slipped a band of gold onto her finger, its cool metal a stark contrast to the warmth of his touch. “With this ring, I thee wed,” he murmured, his tone low and fervent, as if the vow were a secret meant only for her.
The ceremony concluded with a flourish of music, and the hall erupted in applause. Darcy’s hand found hers, and he drew her close, his lips brushing hers in a kiss that was both a claim and a confession. For an instant, the world dissolved—the guests, the expectations, the towering walls of Pemberley—and there was only the press of his mouth, the steady beat of his heart against hers. Then the moment shattered, and they turned to face the throng as husband and wife.
The tide of well-wishers swept them up, a current of bows and curtsies and honeyed words. Mr. Bingley approached first, his handshake hearty and his eyes alight with mirth. “Your Grace,” he said, the title sounding strange yet thrilling on his tongue, “I daresay Darcy’s met his match in you.”
Elizabeth laughed, the sound bubbling up unbidden. “I shall strive to keep him in good humor, Mr. Bingley.”
Lady Catherine was next, her presence a thundercloud amid the festivity. “You have ascended far, Miss Bennet,” she said, her voice clipped and cold. “See that you do not stumble from such a height.”
Elizabeth’s smile held, though her pulse quickened. “I am equal to the task, Lady Catherine. Pemberley shall not find me wanting.”
The older woman’s eyes narrowed, but before she could retort, Darcy intervened, his hand a steadying pressure at Elizabeth’s side. “Aunt, your presence honors us,” he said, his tone polite but firm.
Lady Catherine sniffed, her retreat a silent concession. Elizabeth exhaled, grateful for Darcy’s quiet strength, but the respite was brief. A new figure stepped forward, his demeanor polished yet enigmatic.
“Ambassador Julien Moreau,” he introduced himself, bowing with a grace that bespoke foreign courts. His sharp features and piercing blue eyes gave him an air of quiet command, and his faint accent hinted at distant lands. “A privilege to witness this union, Your Grace.”
“Likewise, Ambassador,” Elizabeth replied, intrigued by the guarded smile that played on his lips. “Pemberley welcomes you.”
“An estate of such renown deserves a duchess of equal mettle,” he said, his words smooth as silk. Yet there was a shadow behind them, a suggestion of something unsaid that set her nerves alight.
Before she could ponder it, an older woman approached, her silver hair swept into an elegant chignon. “Dowager Countess Eleanor,” she announced, her voice resonant with the wisdom of years. Her eyes, though softened by age, were keen, as if they could peer into Elizabeth’s very soul. “I knew Pemberley in its youth, and I see its future in you.”
Elizabeth warmed to the compliment, though it carried an edge she couldn’t place. “Thank you, Countess. I hope to prove worthy of such faith.”
The Countess tilted her head, her gaze lingering. “Faith is a fine thing, my dear, but courage will serve you better. You’ll need it, I wager.”
The cryptic remark hung in the air as the Countess moved away, leaving Elizabeth to grapple with its meaning. The evening unfolded in a blur of introductions and dances, the music a lilting counterpoint to the undercurrent of tension she couldn’t shake. Pemberley’s splendor was undeniable—the gilded mirrors, the frescoed ceilings, the endless sweep of its corridors—but beneath it all, Elizabeth sensed a pulse of something darker, a riddle woven into the very stones.
It was during a lull, as she stood near a towering window overlooking the moonlit gardens, that she noticed a figure slipping from the crowd. Clara, a maid assigned to her service, moved with a haste that belied her usual deference. Her dark hair was pinned tightly, but a single strand had escaped, fluttering like a signal as she vanished down a side passage.
Elizabeth’s curiosity flared, sharp and insistent. Clara had been a quiet presence since her arrival at Pemberley, her eyes often downcast, her hands quick and capable. Yet now, there was a furtiveness to her that tugged at Elizabeth’s instincts. Without a word, she followed, her slippers whispering against the floor as she left the revelry behind.
The passage twisted deeper into the estate, its walls lined with portraits whose painted eyes seemed to track her progress. The air grew cooler, the sounds of the ball fading into a distant hum. Elizabeth quickened her pace, catching a glimpse of Clara’s skirt as it disappeared around a corner. She rounded it herself, only to find the maid gone, swallowed by the labyrinth of Pemberley.
Undeterred, she pressed on, her senses heightened. A faint murmur reached her ears, drawing her toward a recessed alcove half-hidden by a velvet drape. She paused, her breath shallow, as voices emerged from within—low, urgent, and laced with menace.
“The pieces are set,” one said, the timbre rough and unfamiliar. “She mustn’t meddle, not now.”
“She’s no fool,” came the reply, smoother and tinged with disdain. “But she’s green yet. She’ll falter before she finds her footing.”
Elizabeth’s heart thudded against her ribs. Were they speaking of her? What scheme could demand such secrecy, and why did it hinge on her ignorance? She edged closer, straining to catch more, when a shadow fell across her path.
“Elizabeth?” Darcy’s voice, soft but firm, startled her. She turned to find him standing mere steps away, his brow creased with worry. “What brings you here?”
Her mind raced, torn between confession and caution. Could she trust him with this fragment of intrigue, or was he part of the tapestry she had yet to unravel? “I wandered too far,” she said, summoning a smile. “Pemberley’s twists are a puzzle to me still.”
He studied her, his gaze piercing yet tender. “It’s a place of many layers,” he conceded. “But you’ll master it in time. Come, let us return.”
She nodded, allowing him to guide her back, but the voices lingered in her mind, a discordant note amid the evening’s harmony. The ball resumed its rhythm around her, but Elizabeth’s thoughts churned. Who plotted in the shadows, and what did they fear from her?
As the night drew to a close, she retired to her chambers, the vastness of her new quarters both a comfort and a cage. She shed her gown, the silk pooling at her feet, and crossed to the window. The gardens below shimmered under a silver moon, their beauty masking whatever secrets they held. She was tracing the outline of a distant hedge when a knock sounded at her door.
Darcy entered, his presence filling the room. He had shed his coat, his shirt open at the collar, and his expression was a storm of resolve and hesitation. “Elizabeth,” he said, his voice a low growl, “there’s something you must know.”
She turned, her pulse quickening. “Speak plainly, Darcy. What troubles you?”
He stepped closer, his hands flexing as if wrestling with the words. “Pemberley is more than an estate—it’s a crucible. There are forces here, old and restless, that may test us both. I need your trust, whatever comes.”
Her throat tightened. “Test us how? What aren’t you telling me?”
Before he could answer, a cry rent the silence—a raw, guttural sound that clawed at the night. It came from beyond her door, echoing down the corridor with chilling urgency. Darcy’s eyes widened, and in an instant, he was moving, Elizabeth at his heels.
They raced toward the sound, their footsteps a frantic tattoo against the stone. The grand staircase loomed ahead, its sweep illuminated by flickering sconces. At its base lay a figure, sprawled in a tangle of limbs and crimson-stained silk. Elizabeth’s breath caught as she recognized the sharp features of Ambassador Julien Moreau, his once-vivid eyes now dull and unseeing.
Darcy knelt beside him, his hands hovering over the lifeless form. Blood seeped from a wound at Moreau’s temple, pooling beneath his head. Elizabeth’s gaze snagged on his clenched fist, where a scrap of paper protruded. She reached for it, her fingers trembling as she unfolded the torn fragment.
A single word stared back at her, scrawled in a desperate hand: Traitor.
The air thickened with dread, and Elizabeth’s eyes met Darcy’s, a thousand questions burning between them. Who had struck this blow, and why? What betrayal had claimed the ambassador’s life—and what did it mean for the new Duchess of Pemberley?

since I actually have time this year I think I'm going to do nanowrimo. it would be nice to actually finish my novel so I can get that off my list of things to do
#I'm referring to my alternate history urban fantasy hardboiled resurrection mystery detective novel#I haven't worked on it in years but I'd like to have it not be unfinished anymore#so I can actually like. turn it into an ebook and sell it for 5 dollars or whatever#especially since my other detective fiction appears to be in production hell at the moment
