Vipassana meditation
Vipassana meditation is referred to as "seeing things as they really are," originating from the Buddha teachings, and emphasizes self-observation by directly experiencing mental purification. These people focus on the depth connection between the mind and the body, watching physiological sensations and thoughts without judgment for deep understanding of reality and emotionally balance.
It entails mindfulness and awareness, calling on individuals to observe the appearance of thoughts and feelings as they happen. This then leads to the realization about impermanence, suffering, and nature of self, ultimately leading practitioners towards liberation from suffering. The meditation is non-sectarian, hence common and available for use by everyone to solve all human common challenges.
The discipline further comprises following five precepts to maintain ethical practice for maximum benefit during the meditation session4. Pure awareness develop through Vipassana allows people to have greater peace and clarity in their lives.

Post4 Session4 -strategies of realism
In human history, there are various styles of art such as abstractionism or impressionism, and under the influence of these artistic styles, a large number of outstanding artists were born. Among many artistic styles, surrealism is widely used in today’s films and paintings, surrealism is considered to be extremely close to real life and this art style is quite sought after by game makers and players alike. However, some people consider that realism or surrealism does not have its own unique attributes, such as abstractionism or impressionism, because it relies too much on direct access to reality. For example, no one says that a movie is good because it uses realism. Therefore, some scholars argue that realism devalues aesthetics.

However, according to the article by Biswas, the author believes that realism makes the sense data of the real extraordinarily vivid, which is a supplement of belief, and reality out there is itself saturated with representations. Moreover, realism does not degrade the aesthetic, and its social and spiritual values privilege certain structures of reality. The best of realist theory lies in reproducing the relations between rather than the inert presence of things. For example, Indian movies utilize the method that combines music and film plot, which is considered that these films avoid Hollywood realism and the postwar realist style of Italian cinema, it absorbs a lot of realistic elements and forms a unique film and television entertainment mode.

In conclusion, with the development of society and time, realism has been endowed with various new elements, and realism is still widely used in a lot of works of art and literature.

Blog Post 4 Session4 - strategies of realism
15/10/2023
In this lesson, we learnt about the strategy of realism, which provoked me to think about the relationship between art and reality. Art cannot always be completely realistic, and it tends to omit certain aspects of reality.
This reminded me of a game called SimCity, in which the player takes on the role of the mayor and is responsible for building, maintaining and managing his city. The game contains various realistic elements of city management, such as road construction, urban planning, traffic management, resource availability and environmental protection. Players must balance various demands and challenges to ensure the continued development of the city and the satisfaction of its citizens.
This game is known for its highly realistic simulation of city planning and management. Players can experience the complexity and challenges of city management, the size of the city, traffic flow and environmental impact. This makes SimCity an extremely realistic game that appeals to players interested in city planning and management.
However, the 'SimCity' series, while known for its highly realistic city simulations, is not an exact replica of reality. The games contain a number ofseveralof several simplified and abstracted elements to enhance the overall gaming experience. Here are some of the simplified aspects:
Simplified Economic Model: The game's economic model is relatively simplified to make it easier for players to understand and operate. While real-world city economics involve numerous complex factors, the game typically focuses on key indicators like taxes, employment rates, and budgets.
Time Scale: Time in the game usually passes in an accelerated manner to allow players to observe the city's development within a shorter timeframe. This differs from the time scale of city development in the real world.
Environmental and Social Factors: The game may simplify or overlook some complex social and environmental factors, such as crime rates, political decisions, pollution, which can impact city development in reality.
Freedom in City Planning: While "SimCity" allows players the freedom to plan their cities, certain real-world regulations and limitations may be ignored or simplified in the game to provide more creative freedom.
Even though these real-world factors are ignored, the game maintains a high degree of realism, allowing players to simulate and explore the various complexities of city management. This balance makes the 'SimCity' series a broadly appealing urban simulation that offers gameplay and entertainment value. Consequently, although these animated images may not bevisually realistic and/or physically indexical, they areundoubtedly informative and possess a truth value thatlegitimises them and should prevent viewers from automaticallydisregarding them as fictional”(Erlich 2011)
This example made me realise that art is not about achieving perfect realism; in fact, the pursuit of absolute realism may hinder the player's experience. Thus, art involves a process of selecting and omitting elements from reality to create meaningful and engaging experiences.

I wish for everybody to be more aware of their actions, of the dimension they have and of the way they reflect on our sorroundings. I started wondering what kind of scenario could capture this idea and how it would look like.

This seminar mainly discussed the exact content of copyright and its classification (like copyright in dramatic works , in literary work, artistic work and so on ) and the digital challenge to the copyright . What the most appeals to me is that the part in copyright infringement. It is a very interesting case regarding a machine learning tool alleged infringement for using the scrapped data from the internet to train the tool. And it also arises a question about whether the digital copy is a kind of copyright infringement right now to us.

Artists complain that technology doesn’t allow them to properly exploit copyright in their works. Blockchain (which is becoming increasingly important in the financial and real estate sectors) would help to prevent copying, provide a complete source of information about the song, as well as ensure proper compensation for artists with each play.
This is an article written by an artist, Imogen Heap, which is a fantastic discussion of why we need the technology and what it could do.

Non-Hierarchy of Needs
One of Marcels main points was, that the human should be the very center of the design process. He proposed to always have a look at the human needs and decide according to them. In this context he talked about Maslow’s theory of human needs. I always wandered, why this is shown as an hierarchy in a pyramid, I thought this might not be the right visualization. Are human needs always the same? Can you just say, that food is a higher need than safety? Do we survive without love? So I tried to find a new visualization, which I thought was important, in order to define things new, and therefore think in a different way. Later on I asked myself, how does this new hierarchy or non-hierarchy influence our design process. The dependence of the situation, that forms our needs, needs a design, that is flexible enough to adapt to this and even think of situations that you could not think of. I decided to show the pictures of my notebook in a video, because I think you can follow the way of thinking better this way, than just reading it.

Session 4 - tutorial Plan A - the projection of stag’s head.
Today’s tutorial we showed our 3 ideas.
Idea 1:

Idea 2:

Idea 3:

And we were thinking if we can use this flower ball to recognize hand gestures, which can make our project become an interactive projection.

These are the sketch of the animation effect.

But unfortunately, Ian said our project doesn’t have enough content if we just use Hertfordshire’s stag head directly. So we decided to use Plan B.
