It's kind of bizarre how differently Lena is framed in episode 3 of the second season, compared to every episode after it in the second season. Like, her anti-alien biases are just... completely dropped? And the framing of how Kara agrees with seeing her point is also frankly pretty bizarre. "There are bad aliens too" she says, as if she didn't spend all of last season fighting bad aliens, and it's extra bizarre because the alien she's referring to is Mon-El, who literally doesn't turn out to be bad! It also undermines what Lena says about Lex and some people being just bad, and all you can do is protect yourself.

Frankly, maybe this is uncharitable, but I'm genuinely not sure that Kara would have pushed back against the alien detection device at all if she hadn't been being pushed to try it out right then and there. Sure, Lena says that she has bleeding heart pro-alien views, but her views are basically average, not especially enlightened.

I guess I was thinking about this especially because I was going to write a fic about Kara pushing back harder and outing herself in that scene, but as I started plotting and thinking about it, I genuinely don't think that it fits. It could only really work in a fic where Kara is actually part of a marginalized community, which in canon she is just totally separated from.

When I see a fandom post I really don’t agree with, or one that just straight up upsets me, I just block the person. And if they’re a mutual, I’ll use the filter feature instead. Lately, there are some Squid Game ships that I legit hate, so I’ve filtered out the tags used for them.

When I don’t want to see stuff, I make sure I don't have to see the stuff I don't want to see.

Honestly, with how divided things are in the fandom lately, especially around Season 3, I think curating your feed is one of the healthiest things you can do.

And when I have to, I unfollowed people who kept posting stuff that upset me, or that I just didn’t vibe with. That's okay.

Tumblr gives us so many tools to shape our own experience and we don’t have to engage with stuff we don't like and we don't have reblog the posts that we don't agree with and attack the people who made that post or who agree with that post.

Most of us have been in fandom long enough to know we’re not going to like every headcanon, every opinion, even when it’s coming from someone we usually enjoy following. That’s just how it works in a big, passionate community. People bring their own perspectives, and sometimes those won’t match ours and that’s okay.

Yeah, there are definitely times when things need to be talked about, moments where conversations around accountability, representation, or harm in fandom are necessary and valid. But there's a big difference between having a real conversation and showing up just to pick a fight. Especially when people are calmly saying, “This is what we were trying to say…” and genuinely trying to clarify or offer context but the response is just more hostility or refusal to engage in good faith then that’s not a discussion. That’s just performative discourse. It becomes more about being “right” or getting the last word than about listening or learning anything.

Not every disagreement has to turn into a debate. And not everything needs to be dragged into the spotlight just for the sake of conflict. A healthy fandom, or any community, makes space for hard conversations and for boundaries.

But when the goal shifts from understanding to confrontation, when you're just ready to be mad and just want to attack, that’s when things stop being productive and start being toxic.

While creating a recent fanvid, I couldn't help but notice the resonance of these two shots.

The cold blue and the warm yellow. The first steps in anger, the second steps in trepidation.

The light cascades, first with Lena walking away from it, and second with her stepping into it.

Kotaro is holding a flower crown for Marie, so he's just going up to her and placing it on her head there. "I thought this would look nice on you, so I made it for you."

"Ohoho~! What lovely weave-work you did on this, Kotaro! My little diamond, i'm so proud of you!" She places her lovely gloved hand on the top of one of the flower petals, gently caressing the flora with tender care. She always did love to watch others make flower crowns like these, and for the assassin to give her one as a gift at that! It made the young queen smile in happiness!

"I'll keep this as safe as my ring. All gifts from my fellow lovely friends are treasures that I adore~!" With that said, the Rider then pulls Kotaro in for a full hug! She's gentle and soft, of course, and Marie pulled away with a sudden sparkle in her eyes.
