i know they said bank will remain open after general 3ds wifi services shut down but i don't trust for how long that will be, so i'm making an absolutely massive list of stuff i want to transfer for my collection before the ability to do so gets shut off forever...
i'm putting it below the cut because the list is long but i do want to say here that if anyone else is making a sort of "collectible list" before bank's shutdown one day and you're not a total stranger to me (we don't have to be mutuals, i'm comfortable if i just see you in my notifs sometimes), please feel free to reach out to me about trades for old gen event pokemon, i have a plentiful collection of hardware to be able to distribute events to myself in gens 3 & 4 like as if i were a toys r us employee in real life, and i might be able to trade you something for your collection (the "legitimacy" of these since they weren't distributed at the real life event over a decade ago is up to you! but i think it's a cooler way of getting them than cheat codes or injection through PKHeX at least)
okay here's my current list
Ribbon Masters
Kaf Farigiraf
Porygon-Z KAF/U pair
Something from the GameCube games (Quagsire in honor of Ayano?? Butterfree because I like it??)
Gen 3 shiny Zigzagoon
Childhood PKTOPIA Raichu (+ PKTOPIA Pikachu if I have time)
The gen 3 PCNY Pokemon Venty is giving to me at Regionals next year
Gabby the Garchomp
Gen 3 Latias named Bianca
Sport Ball Shedinja/Ninjask (trade to DPPT for evolution)
LeafGreen Bulbasaur at minimum, maybe some other stuff to honor my childhood cartridge
Something to honor my love for Sinnoh, TBD
Maybe others
Mythicals
RNG Shiny Mew in JPN Emerald (Maybe RM it?)
Get Ayano to shiny hunt Celebi in VC Crystal for me (I could RM this one too), grab a normal one too, maybe from the HGSS event
RNG Shiny Wishmaker Jirachi unless that's too agonizing, in which case get a normal Wishmaker Jirachi and RNG a Channel Jirachi instead
RNG Shiny Deoxys in RSE or FRLG, get a normal one from whichever game I don't do the RNG on
RNG Shiny Manaphy in DPPT or HGSS, get a normal one from there as well (Phione can be bred later or RNG'd in gen 4)
RNG Shiny Darkrai in DPPT, get a normal one too
RNG Shiny Shaymin in DPPT, get a normal one too
Get a normal Arceus from DPPT, shiny hunting it isn't urgent since that's only doable in BDSP
Shiny Victini doesn't exist :(, get a normal one from BW
Shiny Keldeo doesn't exist either, get a normal one from BW
Shiny Meloetta ALSO doesn't exist, get a normal one from BW
Get a shiny Genesect from Japanese Gen 5 (the only place it was released), get a normal one too
3DS Mythicals and their shinies can be injected as needed into 3DS games (Volcanion, Hoopa, Magearna, and Marshadow have unreleased shinies. I have shiny Zeraora from SWSH. Magearna doesn't need to be injected)
Not currently concerned about Meltan/Melmetal/Zarude
Other collectibles
Need to check Apriball legality listings, maybe get a few of my favorite mons in Apriballs from HGSS
Transfer a copy of Mikoto's Safari Ball collection
One of every Legendary with a cool ribbon
Ayano's original Crystal team just in case
VC Origin Legendaries since I'm playing through Crystal anyway
Some other various gen 3 & 4 events I can self distribute
More TBD

Ok so here's a rating of all the legendaries from my most favourite to least favourite.
Notes
~
- I am excluding legendaries from SWSH, USUM, and SV because I haven't fully played those games. I played Sword but got bored with it and gifted my copy of it to my brother and I never touched SV and USUM and don't have the money for them :/ (well.... except for USUM I just don't wanna play that one. I do REALLY wanna play SV tho, I just can't afford it).
- Some XY and SM ones may not be on this list as well but that's because I don't even fully remember them/didn't know they existed until I looked. And I have all of XY blocked out from my memory except for the 3 main legendaries. Same for SM, I really only remember the story in SM. Anywayss, let's go!
1. Suicune! 4Ever was one of my favourite Pokemon movies as a kid and I just really love it's design. I also first played Crystal when I was 13 and using a GB emulator on my phone. I LOVED it! So I got some childhood nostalgia tied to this reasoning.
2. Reshiram. The BW/BW2 games are my favourite games in the entire series. I have tons of nostalgia for the games and are both the second/third Pokemon games I ever beat when I was 10. I hold all of Gen 5 dear to me.
3. Entei. The first Pokemon movie I ever watched was 3 and it was the first movie that ever made me cry. I remember when I was 6 I lived right next to a Family Video (R.I.P.) and they had a free kids movie section. Me and an old friend picked out Pokemon 3 and watched together and it made me SOB. I dealt with severe abuse starting when I was only a few months old that worsened at the age of 4. I was still going through the worse of it. I saw a lot of myself in the main little girl and I desperately wished I had a Entei that protected me. So there's a lot of sentimental reasonings for it.
4. Celebi. Again, 4Ever was one of my favourite movies as a kid so that's why. I also cried while watching that one when I was 7/8.
5. Ho-Oh. So Heartgold was the second Pokemon game I ever owned (it was the 3rd or 4th game I ever played) and it was the first Pokemon game I ever fully beaten. I got the game for my 9th birthday. One of my aunt's bought it for me while my mom paid for SoulSilver which I ended up gifting to my friend after she asked for one (I didn't care and still don't, I have no preference for either I adore both HG and SS).
6. Dialga. Diamond was the first Pokemon game I ever owned and the 2nd or 3rd game I ever played. I sadly never beat it, I got stuck at one of the cities with that pokemon pageant thing and then my copy of the game got lost. Idk how it got lost because I took care of my belongings but at the time my cousin was living with my family and he had a habit of stealing stuff and giving them away so it's most likely that happened but I can't say for sure. I wasn't able to touch another Sinnoh game until I was 16 where I got Platinum for my birthday.
7. Darkrai. So fun fact, as much as I adore the PMD games my favourite Pokemon spin offs are the Ranger games with Shadows Of Almia being my favourite. I got it for Christmas when I was 7 and was ADDICTED to it (so was my mom, she loved "stealing" my DS when I wasn't around and played it lol). And it's design is just cool as fuck it gives me Shadow The Hedgehog vibes.
8. Victini. I LOVED the BW movie when it came out. I remember watching it live on CN. And I was obsessed with Victini as a legendary when I was 11.
9. Latias + Latios. I first watched heroes when I was 10/11 and I ADORED it.
Ok so for the rest of these I don't have any sentimental reasoning as to why I like/dislike them the rest is just based off of the design.
10. Mew.
11. Shaymin.
12. Cobalion
13. Virizion (my dumbass keeps reading it as Verizon, like the phone company lmao)
14. Arceus
15. Lugia
16. Giratina
17. Rayquaza
18. Groudon
19. Kyogre
20. Xerneas
21. Manaphy (gonna be honest I didn't even know this was a legendary until now)
22. Phione
23. Jirachi
24. Cresselia
25. Azelf
26. Mesprit
27. Uxie
28. Articuno
29. Type: Null
30. Silvally
31. Raikou
32. Meloetta
33. Cosmog, Cosmoem, and Solgaleo/Lunala (Idk where to put each so they're all going in this spot)
34. Deoxys
35. Keldeo
36. Terrakion
37. Zapdos
38. Moltres
39. Palkia
40. Zekrom
41. Kyurem.
42. Heatran
43. Yveltal
44. Zygarde
45. Necrozma
46. Regirock, Regice, and Regigigas. I don't like the designs they creep me out.
47. Mewtwo. The design is unappealing to me. It's iconic but I don't like it :/.
48. Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus. I HATE these designs they piss me off and idek why they just do.
Ok that's my entire list and again if I don't have any on here that's not from SWSH and SV it's most likely because I don't remember them/didn't know they existed. I have played both XY and SM (I beat XY but I never beat SM cuz I couldn't beat Kukui). But the thing with those games is that I was dealing with a lot of mental stuff and trauma while playing both. I blocked out XY mainly because I didn't like it and also I was suffering from severe depression and SM was blocked out due to the fact that I was going through trauma while playing it (I only remember the starters, characters, and story). So a lot of the Pokemon and legendaries from those games were wiped from my memory.
I probably shouldn't have made this list due to these facts but I mostly wanted to share my favourite legendaries (1-28 are my faves, 29-35 I'm neutral on, and everything below I just don't like, design wise anyways).
#alter coko#only mentioning the alter because each alter has a different opinion#like Cobalion is in one of our alter's top 10s#long post#pokemon#legendary pokemon

Mythical Pokemon for Pokemon Unite!
Having just posted a moveset for Diancie for Pokemon Unite, it's time to see which 'Mythical' Pokemon should join Pokemon Unite next. If you're a big fan of those pint sized legendaries that show up at the end of a regional Dex, then this is the poll for you! Since we already have Mew and Hoopa in Unite, who would you like to see join the game next?
Because they all have 600 BST, they're all packing some legendary power. However, some have specialized stats which sets them apart from their peers, with Melmetal and Zarude being the biggest example. Also, these kinds of Pokemon tend to get added once in a blue moon, which is why almost everyone has the Unite License for Zeraora or Hoopa. For that reason, you should vote as if it'll be the only legendary that'll get added in for a while. (to be clear, this is just a blog with no affiliation with Pokemon Unite or any members of the dev team, I just like talking like this)
With all that said, get voting!

A Pokemon Cosmology
Trying to have positive pokemon thoughts so I went and created a sort of map of emanations of the various mythical/legendary/ultra beast pokemon from larger concepts like Space and Time emanating down into more specific concepts like Guardians of Specific Islands
This mostly does follow canon groupings/leaderships etc but some groups were put near other groups, or in some cases given a leader or pairs associated with other pairs etc depending on if I decided I liked it or not
it’s not meant to be like “This Pokemon created this Pokemon” or etc, just that the things they have dominion over, are lesser than the things the Pokemon higher up the foodchain has dominion over
Also, sometimes some legendaries were sort of given designations that they may not have canonly have, but I think would be a good idea for them to have dominion over/represent
I made a chart and then explanations will follow:
First we got Arceus, Ultimate Creator
then he’s surrounded by all the Unowns as his “Thousand Arms of Creation”
then the big three concepts he made were Dialga (Time), Palkia (Space) and Giratina (Antimatter)
First, Dialga
Since Dialga represents Time, I’d figure he’d have dominion over the Pokemon that represent the things we use to recognize Time, The Sun(Solgaleo), the Moon(Lunala) and Light/Darkness as a concept itself (Necrozma) which are all essentially concepts of Light and Energy in the Universe
Also with Dialga is Celebi, a being able to move freely throughout any Time, so possibly representing the Currents of Time, or specifically Past, Present and Future
Undereath Lunala (The Full Moon) we have Cresselia (Crescent Moon) and Darkrai (New Moon), the three of them representing the Night and possibly Dreams
Under Solgaleo (The Sun) we have Meltan(Metal) and Melmetal(Fusion), and where Lunala and friends represented things of a metaphysical nature, Solgaleo and friends represent Light’s more physical side, with Meltan and Melmetal representing the idea of a Star’s molten metal core as a representation of the byproduct of Nuclear Fusion and the natural origin of all Metal
Lastly under Zekrom (Light) are Jirachi(Meteors/Stars) and Deoxys(Auroras) the other natural phenomenons that symbolize Light other than the Sun and Moon
Then Cosmog/Cosmoem represent Nebulas/Cosmos/Shiny Stardust and put under Lunala/Solgaleo as their natural parents
Next, Palkia.
Palkia represents Physical Space, and therefore, the next in line are those that created the pieces of our Physical Planet, Kyogre (Ocean), Groudon (Land) and Rayqauza (Atmosphere)
Also with Palkia is Hoopa, a being with a relationship to Palkia similar to the one Celebi has with Dialga, being able to freely move throughout Space, teleporting as it pleases, representing the idea of Teleportation and Location.
Celebi and Hoopa are not higher than Dialga or Palkia, they merely have the total freedom to explore the ideas under their dominion, theyre like Palkia and Dialga’s kids. Manaphy had the title “Prince of the Sea” under Kyogre, maybe Celebi and Hoopa can be the Princes of Time and Space?
Under Kyogre (Ocean) we have Phione (Warm Seas) and Manaphy (Cold Seas).
then also we have Lugia (Beast of Underwater Currents) and under Lugia the three legendary birds.
Now, the three birds don’t really all have an association with some form of water, but you could stretch them into either Weather Patterns (Which are determined by the ocean and it’s currents) as Snow/Rain/Sun OR as representing different States of Water, Frozen Ice (Articuno), Liquid Rain (Zapdos) and Gaseous Vapor (Moltres), which, kinda makes sense, idk theyre ruled by the ocean currents and all live on islands surrounded by water its the best I can come up with
either works, but, since there is a “Weather Trio” later on, the states of water probably work best
Nest we have Rayquaza (Atmosphere) which has the underlings Latios (Cold Air Currents) and Latias (Warm Air Currents) and from them spawn the actual Weather Trio, Thundurus (Humidity), Tornadus (Wind) and Landorus (Heat), rather than just saying rain/storm etc I figured making it the three factors that control all the weather patterns that can happen to make the most sense here
Finally we have Groudon (Land) which has the underlings Heatran (Earth’s Molten Core) and Diancie (Earth’s Crust) and I like this because it matches the pattern of each Planet Trio member having two underlings representing the hot and cold versions of each trio. Also under Groudon (Land) we have Regigigas (Continents) who rules landmasses in general, then under Regigigas we have the various types of solid landmasses possible Regice (Ice/Snow/Tundra), Regirock (Stone/Earth/Mountain) and Registeel (Cities/Steel/Construction).
Then separately under Regigigas, but lower then the other 3 Regi’s, we have the rulers of specific small particular landmasses, various Island Guardians, the 4 Tapu’s. I’d say Regigigas is their direct ruler, because what are islands except Tiny Continents, but theyre lower in priority than the 3 Regi’s since those guys represent 3 basic types of landmasses, similar but different.
The more specific you get the more things fractal outwards
Next we have Giratina who represents Antimatter, and under him most nonphysical/spiritual concepts that are misunderstood and foreign and hard to grasp, since they sort of exist on the “other side” of things. Xerneas (Life), Yveltal (Death), Zygarde (Balance/Aura).
Also with him is Marshadow and Mew. Marshadow is a ghost pokemon that lives in the shadows, but also represents the idea of the “fighting spirit” which often associated with “Aura” in pokemon. Whereas Mew is the genetic physical origin of all living Pokemon.
So both sort of represent the two halves needed to create a living existing creature. Mew representing the body and the physical form, Marshadow representing the soul, the spirit, or the aura needed to give life to that physical form. Dunno what exact title to give, perhaps Prince of Aura and Prince of DNA or something along those lines.
Underneath Zygarde, representing Balance/Nature, we have Ho-oh representing Reincarnation or Rebirth
and while you’d think it makes sense to have Ho-oh underneath Xerneas (Life) instead, the idea of Rebirth naturally involves a delicate Balance or natural Cycle of both Life and Death. So under Zygarde they go.
then of course Ho-oh as Reincarnation has dominion over Suicune (Purifying Water), Raikou (Revitalizing Electricity) and Entei (Transmuting Fire) aka the various ways something can be “reborn”: Purified of any corruption or healing of damage, given new strength or Vitality, or physical remoulding of it’s shape or form, the same things that happened to all three. (also because i like to believe that while Unown’s may have created the Entei in the third pokemon movie, it’s ability to reshape reality at will could have naturally been it’s own as well, maybe, i know not really but still)
This has potential then for future legendary pokemon underneath Yveltal and Xerneas to represent different specific concepts of Destruction/Death/Illness and Creation/Life/Healing. Like Sickness, Old Age, Decay, Growth, Youth, and Vitality.
Next we have those also directly under Arceus, as an ultimate creator, whereas Dialga, Palkia and Giratina represented Time, Space and Antimatter respectively, Arceus has dominion over the concept of Humanity, with me sort of borrowing the concept of gods creating humanity in their image.
Now, you can see a sort of empty point here where it looks like a Pokemon should be in this spot, similar to Palkia/Giratina/Dialga, but this is because technically Arceus is both directly fulfilling this spot, and because this spot overlaps with the three beneath it, Reshiram/Zekrom and Kyurem. I kind of see it as both Arceus and “the original dragon” that is Reshiram/Zekrom/Kyurem all fused, which we get close to, but never really fully see. And i like this because it kind of highlights that the question to humanity’s existence and purpose, doesn’t have an answer, just like this spot doesn’t have a ruler.
Here also, we have the two beings who would have supported what this ultimate being of humanity might have represented, and indeed what Arceus may have intended to shape humanity into all along.
Victini, representing Power, Victory, Success and Shaymin, representing Gratitude, Appreciation, Recognition.
Really does paint a picture of an almost angelic sense of euphoria and love. If we take even more christian mythos as inspiration here, it makes sense that the lack of a figure representing Euphoria and Love as penultimate concepts of humanity, and the fact that it no longer exists, almost points to a “fall of man/why evil exists” kind of situation, where that being of love and euphoria and what it represented was rejected by those it was meant to have dominion over, and was thus shattered from existence as a result. And it makes sense in another way too, to be eternally euphoric kind of demands a lack of free will and choice in order to be true, which humanity would obviously never accept, even if temporary pain and evil was the result.
So from that, Reshiram represents the human conception of Truth, and Zekrom represents the human conception of Ideals. This is branched out to be a sort of Intellect/Rationality versus Emotion/Freewill kind of idea in my mind. But they also represent different forms of Energy, Reshiram’s Fire and Zekrom’s Electricity. Kyurem as the third is a nullifier of both, due to it’s nature as empty husk of the original. So while Reshiram/Zekrom represent the natural leftover concepts of Humanity and Energy, Kyurem represents unnatural humanity and Entropy (Absolute Zero Ice).
So from Reshiram (Truth), spawns the idea of Keldeo (Justice), the idea that things can be Right or Wrong, or can be logically determined as such. This gets you Cobalion (Rationality), Terrakion (Reality) and Virizion (Intellect).
A subset of Reshiram’s Fire Energy we also have Volcanion, who represents specifically Steam energy.
on the other side, you have Zekrom (Ideals), spawns the idea of Meloetta (Expression), the idea of individuality and that each person has their own perspective or priorities. This gets you Azelf (Willpower), Uxie (Knowledge) and Mesprit (Emotion) (also it just feels really aesthetically nice to think of Meloetta as the Lake Trio’s “leader” she has basically the same color scheme and design of being somewhat pixie like, has the fourth color green to the lake trios red/yellow/blue, and is slightly taller more humanshape to denote her status as leader, its a great idea and you should love it like i do)
a subset of Zekrom’s Electric energy we have Zeraora, who represents specifically Plasma Energy.
Underneath Kyurem (Unnatural Humanity) we get all of our man-made legendaries. Starting with Magearna (Manufacturing/Man-Making in general) as the oldest legendary created by man, then branching out to Genesect (Scientific Modification), Type:Null (Scientific Blending) and Mewtwo (Scientific Creation). Then Type:Null gets its evolution in Silvally, possibly representing the concept of Trust or Friendship as a whole, a wholly natural human activity, that also has to be created or nurtured by humanity to continue existing, Naturally Man-Made, a perfect blend of the two. And I like the coincidence that a lot of the manmade pokemon are a direct result result of man’s freewill to be evil or good, just like they were a direct result of Kyurem/Reshiram/Zekrom’s current state of being.
Lastly the Ultra beasts are kind of, outside of this whole dynamic, I’m not sure if i could solidly put any of them directly tied to Dialga/Palkia/Giratina/Arceus, like there’s some that I thing could kinda work maybe in some cases but overall not really?
Like Xurkitree Kartana and Celesteela looking very man-made (but they aren’t technically) Poipole/Naganadel representing Poison and possibly Illness or Decay, putting it under Yveltal as Death, same as Guzzlord being Destruction
But it’s not, the greatest, so overall I just kinda put them in a circle outside of everything, but closest to the major concepts they sort of have a connection with.
But instead of being tied to anything directly and representing specific concepts, they represent extremely vague ethereal/ephemeral concepts in contrast that are also very alien and inhuman and almost eldritch (when not representing specifically human concepts)
Guzzlord - Represents Destruction in all it’s forms, recycling, transformation, restructuring, but not with any malice, just with the cold unthinking unreasonable processing of a wood chipper eating your leg.
Poipole/Naganadel - represents poison, illness, sickness, decay, old age, allergies (because theyre bees) basically all things that usher in potential death
Blacephalon - represents Primal Fears/Illusions/The Void/The Ineffable/Unknowable/Eldritch due to the clown association and it’s attack Mind Blown hinting at a more “its all in your head/cannot comprehend the nature of this attack” concept as well.
Celesteela - represents all the ideas of motion, the laws of gravity, propulsion, magnetism, all the forces of the universe that push and pull things together or apart
Pheromosa - represents all concepts of value, beauty, worth, strength, ability, importance, awe, wonder, admiration, love, desire etc the things most humans desire to head towards at full speed
Xurkitree - represents all concepts of machinery, clockwork, computers, circuits, programming and automatons and technology in general, past present future and alien.
Stakataka - represents ideas of a legion, many being one but all being the same, lack of individuality, a hive mind of samey clones, moving and speaking and being in constant unison, like grains of sand, drops of water, leaves in a forest, it is indistinct, incomprehensible, numerous, countless, innumerable, incalculable, immeasurable, untold, endless etc
Kartana - represents the concept of all physical textures, rough, smooth, sharp, hardness, hairy, coarse, fluffy, slimy etc
Nililego - represents ideas of infiltration, parasitizing, possession, loss of identity, erosion of the self, influencing, puppeteering, invasion, permeation, infection, an undoing of boundaries, overlapping, linking together, echoing
Buzzwole - represents all concepts of power, strength, dominance, leeching, violence, force, ferocity, wildness, cruelty, hatred

are there any mythical/legendary pokemon that people are allowed to keep? (I really love Shaymin but I'm worried about the legality of it all)
What a great question! Thank you for bringing it up.
I did make a post a while back about the ethics of keeping a legendary or mythical Pokémon, but I haven’t yet had a chance to address it more in depth. I briefly explained that if you are able to capture a legendary Pokémon, it means that it trusts you enough to believe you’ll take over their task for them. Such as the island guardians of Alola. If you manage to capture one of the island guardians, the guardian believes that you, in turn, will become the island’s guardian.
Another important issue is the legality of it, which I’m very glad you decided to bring up today!
The capturing of high-profile legendary Pokémon—Arceus, Dialga, Palkia, Ho-Oh, Lugia, Reshiram, Regigigas, Zekrom, Groudon, Kyogre, Xerneas, Yveltal, Mew, etc.—is entirely illegal unless you are a region Champion (or former Champion), Professor, licensed scientist, or have a particular permit (but these are only distributed if all other candidates are occupied, such as during a state of regional emergency and a legendary Pokémon must be awakened in order to deal with a threat.) Illegally capturing one of these Pokémon can result in a lifetime sentence in prison, as well as a massive fine for any damages caused in the fabrics of existence in the legendary’s absence.
Harsh? Yes. But deterrents must be in place so not just anyone can swoop in and pick up a deity!
Next, on a far less harsh scale are Pokémon you can own with a permit—the legendary dogs, the lake trio, the swords of justice, the legendary birds, Latios and Latias, Mewtwo, Darkrai, Type: Null/Silvally, etc. These are less powerful, but still a bit more than the normal person could be willing or able to handle. They’re still a bit more difficult to obtain, but the laws are less strict since these are more numerous and not entirely endangered.
Lastly is the group of Pokémon you can legally own and obtain so long as you take a proper care class and register your Pokémon so officials know you have one in captivity. Lucky for you, this list includes the likes of Shaymin, Manaphy, Phione, Victini, Meloetta, and Cosmog! These pokemon are very numerous and are not considered endangered anymore.
This was a bit of a longer post, but I hope this addressed what you were looking for!

Thinking about restarting Pokemon Y
Trade to OmegaRuby: Starters (All Kanto and Kalos Starters. Johto Starters Cyndaquil and Totodile. Hoenn Starters Torchic and Treeko. Sinnoh Starters Piplup and Chimchar and Unova Starters Oshawott and Snivy)
All Mythical Pokemon: Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Manaphy, Shaymin, Darkrai, Arceus, Victini, Keldeo, Genesect, Meloetta, Hoopa and Volcanion
All Legendary Pokemon I have (Including Shiny Xerneas)
All Vivillon Patterns (Including Fancy and Pokeball Pattern. I had collected fifteen Vivillon Patterns. Browsing through the GTS for Vivillons was for the most part unbearable)
All Shiny Pokemon I caught in Y (Glimmer the Pangoro, Edmund the Venipede and Polly the Gothitelle)
Most of the Kalos Pokemon I have caught and unavaliable in Hoenn
Version Exclusives
My brother’s Celebi and several of his best Pokemon.
Several select Pokemon from Wonder Trade (Pokemon in rare balls, Italian Ditto etc)
Basically all Pokemon with my OT and my brother’s best Pokemon are going to Hoenn.
They all will hold either Berries or items. It will take several days before I replay Pokemon Y. But this time I will have the Exp All off. As for the theme of my Pokemon nicknames in my next playthough, I’m thinking of either astronomy or plants.

I recently decided to tackle the long-overdue challenge of completing my HOME national dex to finally claim a sought-after original color Magearna for my own. Filling the gaps in my dex has been no easy feat, and one requiring I do far stranger things than I ever expected. Catching ‘em all isn’t quite so simple as it seems at first glance, lemme tell you...
Catching various Pokemon was the easy part. Between having three complete living dexes on Sword alone and the complete living Alola dex on my Ultra Sun, a significant portion was already filled in. But that piqued my curiosity about something I first noticed about a year ago when HOME first launched: why did my HOME dex have Pokemon registered that I’d never moved off of gen 7? Well, the good news is that Bank has its own Pokedex, composited from all the dexes of all the game cards you connect to it, and this data is sent to HOME every time you move even one Pokemon. You don’t have to send anything important up to gen 8 if you don’t want to! What a relief.
Still, SWSH infamously don’t offer everything, and so most of my work involved trawling through older gen games and picking up the odd forgotten straggler. A couple of them really surprised me, like how I apparently had Sunflora but no Sunkern, or Ducklett but no Swanna. Regardless, this kind of thing is the fun part of Pokemon, tracking stuff down and catching it, and before too long, I was already finished. Easy enough.
The difficulty ramped up when I reached the point of no return, the point where nothing remains but those dreaded mythicals... the only Pokemon out of ‘em all you can’t just go and catch. Who came up with that idea? I’d like to have a stern word with them (that word is fuck). I left concerns of legitimacy behind me and pressed dauntlessly on. Whatever it took, I was getting this done.
Thankfully, even here I wasn’t starting from square 1. I have a modest collection of mythicals of my own; Meloetta, Celebi, Phione, assorted random pickups from my obsessive play beginning in gen 6. This narrowed it down to thirteen elusive targets. And then I remembered I’d neglected to catch Keldeo in the Crown Tundra, narrowing it down to twelve elusive targets:
Mew - Manaphy - Darkrai - Shaymin - Arceus - Victini - Genesect - Hoopa - Volcanion - Zarude - Meltan - Melmetal

My first stop was the era of the original DS, with my friend Elliot pointing me towards the Nintendo Wi-Fi DNS Exploit in order to access long-passed events. Limited by the language of games I owned as well as hardware (I never managed to get this exploit working on gen 4 because of that goddamned WEP requirement), I managed to download Darkrai, Victini, and Genesect.
Mew - Manaphy - Shaymin - Arceus - Hoopa - Volcanion - Zarude - Meltan - Melmetal
Up next was the HOME mobile app, where I got by with a little help from my friends - well, friend, namely Nia, who had four more to trade me. Also worth mentioning is how HOME’s friend trading system is normally supposed to be restricted to local-only, a restriction that was supposedly lifted due to the pandemic. I guess I chose the right time to get this underway, at least.
Shaymin - Arceus - Volcanion - Zarude - Melmetal

What followed is probably the strangest step of my journey, and if I’m being honest, one of the most surprising and impressive. Around this time I’d begun poking my nose various places online looking for where I might get in contact with somebody to spot me the last handful of Pokemon I needed. I saw a post on one subreddit offering “ANY POKEMON YOU WANT” and figured I was about to message some hacker. Instead, all it took was connecting to a discord channel and messaging a bot, and I was in touch with an automated hacking robot capable of trading any Pokemon legally obtainable in SWSH! I was blown away. I felt like the NPC from the beginning of each game who’s impressed by how incredible technology is. And I had three more mythicals registered in my dex (then promptly released).
Shaymin - Arceus
Bringing this quest nearly to its close is the final adventure I’ve had recently, and one of the more exciting things I’ve done in my time playing Pokemon. Coincidentally, I recently ordered a Japanese copy of Pearl, which happens to be one of the only two games fit to serve as the stage for this endeavor: I was going to attempt the “tweaking” glitch.
As I understand it, this glitch fucks with the loading triggers in the game, and enables you to venture out of bounds in real time using nothing more than your DS and the cartridge. Through careful exploration and the execution of some game events, you can encounter Darkrai, Shaymin, and even Arceus. You can technically fuck up your game file if you go astray, but with very little to lose on my new JP Pearl to begin with, I set to it in earnest. Following video tutorials as my guide, I was biking my way through darkness in no time flat, sights set on the Alpha Pokemon Arceus.

I had no Master Ball available on any of my gen 4 games, so capturing this thing came down to three P’s: Patience, Poke Balls, and Parasect. I didn’t have Parasect ready for my first attempt, which ended in failure, and although this tweaking encounter can be repeated an infinite number of times, I wanted this over with as soon as possible. After a day spent grinding Parasect until it was ready to stand toe-to-toe with a god, I dove into the void again and caught myself my first ever Arceus. Thanks to Sakura Miko, of course.

From here, I’m so close to Magearna I can practically taste it, yet I’m still one Pokemon short - Shaymin. Even though I could catch one through tweaking, it’s reportedly the only tweaking capture incapable of being transferred up to newer games, which leaves me back at the drawing board for one final Pokemon. One final step, and at this point, I can’t imagine what it’ll entail.

Fresh Start
(Not sure if this is official Pokémon art or fanart. If the later then please tell me and I’ll remove it.) Ok, First I’m going to explain my classification on the rare Pokémon and what can and can not be recruited, from what I’ve learned of pokémon from these past 20 some years. Legendary Pokémon I see them as a pantheon, making each one the only one until otherwise shown in the animes, movies, manga, and games; Arceus, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Regirock, Regice, Regirock, Regigigas, Latias, Latios, Groudon, Kyogre, Jirachi, Azlef, Mesprit, Uxie, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Cresselia, Darkrai, Heatran, Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion, Keldo, Tornadus, Thundurus, Landorus, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde, Hoopa, Volcanion, Magearna, Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Tapa Bulu, and Tapu Fini. As legendary each is unrecruitable unless shown in any of the official series or because they are of a stature that recruiting them wouldn’t make sense one way or another.
Mythical Pokémon These are species that have more than one that have been shown in the animes, movies, manga, and games(or stated by the series that more than can exist) but are still rare to find and capture; Mew, Mewtwo, Lugia, Moltres, Articuno, Zapdos, Entei, Suicune, Raikou, Rayquaza, Deoxys, Manaphy, Phione, Shaymin, Victini, Meloetta, Genesect, Diancie, Cosmog, Cosmoem, Solgaleo, Lunala, Nihilego, Buzzwole, Pheromosa, Xurkitree, Celesteela, and Kartana.
EXTRA INFO Now I will elaborate on a few that can or have been recruited/caught. And there are other bits of info here. 1. The Regi Trio all have a trainer as shown in the series, thus I won’t be posting my game capturing of them as part of the JE as recruiting, even though I have in the game. 2. The Legendary Beasts have been shown to have others of there kind so I will mention them in my story should I receive one via event or in-game capture. Though it will most likely be a shiny as I have a shiny Suicune from the Heart Gold/Soul Silver event with shiny versions of the three. 3. There have been two Mewtwos shown in the series, one male by its voice & depiction and the other female by it voice & depiction as its reaction shows it was surprised Ash knew it. Plus to add to the evidence of that is that both Mega Evolutions were shown to next to each other in the anime or movie, I don’t right remember which. And with the recent Pokémon Tournament game having Shadow Mewtwo it supports my theory. So because there are three in known media I assume more of them have been created in the Pokéverse and so in my JE world there are more. 4. Genesect falls into the same category as Mewtwo, there is more than one. But since how they even reproduce is an unknown I won’t bother with them at the moment. There’s just too little info. -_- 5. Deoxys is an extremely rare species as they appear when a space virus mutates upon entering the planets atmosphere. Thus one can be caught. 6. It is stated that if one of the Creation Trio is caught then Arcues has the power to recreate another of them. So it’s of the highest of rare recruits and thus making an exception to their being only one. But as to what happens when the first returns after the trainer dies or releases it, I’m guessing Arceus simply has the two merge together or something, 7. Now as for Latias and Latios, these two have been shown as sibling Pokémon and did have a father. I can not speculate as to what the father was as Manaphy has shown that a child will not always be the same as the parent. 8. There a few on here I haven’t listed as there is little info on them. Thus I won’t be using them in my entries except for perhaps lore. 9. Now I’m gonna address villians, they exist in the world of my Journal Entries. I will have encounters with them occasionally but my Pokéverse self is not the hero who takes down the organization. So don’t expect anything like him going up against Giovani. 10. Also, villains in this Pokéverse have worked on making pokéballs and other methods that capture pokémon, but not recruited pokémon.(Note: Reason is because the recruiting balls register the pokémon under to the trainers team.) 11. Pokéballs come in to sets; Recruit Balls and Capture Balls. The difference between these two is rather obvious. There are variants though. For example, the Recruit Master Ball is for recruiting pokémon who are too strong for an average recruit ball. And a Capture Master Ball is one designed to capture and enslave any pokémon without question, but also to capture pokémon that are extremely powerful. I will make a complete list of the different Recruit and Capture Balls in a later post. 12. Because my Pokéverse self originates from Orre, Shadow pokémon are a historical thing and still pop up. Additionally there are other methods and occurrences that twist or corrupt pokémon and other creatures, even humans. 13. There is a sordid history when it comes to humans in the Pokéverse, at one time there were places and people who openly and without worry of consequence enslaved pokémon as their own personal property, whether it be as trophies, entertainment, or some other horrid reason. This is how the organizations such as the Ranger Union came into being.

I’m working on the next chapter of my fanfiction and I think the following conversation might be the best thing I’ve ever written:
"The only Pokemon confirmed to have two different Mega Evolutions is Charizard,” Gary informed them. “There are rumors about Mewtwo, but... well, it's not like we can confirm that Mewtwo even can Mega Evolve in the first place."
"Why not?" Ash said, sounding surprised.
"Why don't you try getting that thing into a Pokeball?"
"Oh..."
Ash paused, then said, "Well, can't you just ask it if it can Mega Evolve?"
This got a sigh of annoyance from Drew and a preposterous laugh from Gary. Misty, meanwhile, gazed back at Ash with an expression of deep thought.
"Okay, Ash, you tell me once you've managed to find Mewtwo and somehow gotten it to talk to you," Gary said, shaking his head. "You do realize that some researchers debate whether Mewtwo even actually ex- "
"Okay," Ash said, shrugging. "I'll tell you. I've found Mewtwo and gotten it to talk to me."
"What the- when?" Gary said, disbelief plain on his face.
Ash shrugged. "I dunno, four years ago?" He glanced at Misty for confirmation, and she nodded. "Yeah. I was still traveling with Brock and Misty. We found it up on a mountain or something."
"Mt. Quena," Misty supplied. "He's telling the truth, Gary. Do you even know how many Legendary and Mythical Pokemon we encountered when we traveled together?"
"I met even more on my other journeys," Ash added. "Let's see... Mewtwo, Entei, Lugia, Ho-oh, Zapdos, Moltres, Articuno, Suicune, Raikou, Celebi, Groudon, Kyogre, Regice, Registeel, Regirock, Manaphy, Phione, Mew, Latias, Latios, Rayquaza, Azelf, Uxie, Mesprit, Dialgia, Palkia, Giratina, Shaymin, Heatran, Regigigas, Cresselia, Darkrai, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Keldeo, Virizion, Terrakion, Cobalion, Tornadus, Thundurus, Landorus, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde, Meloetta, Victini, Jirachi, Genesect, Diancie, Hoopa, Deoxys, Volcanion, Magearna... yeah... I think that's about it." He frowned. "Oh, and Arceus."
By now, everyone in the room was staring at him, dumbfounded.
"I think..." Professor Oak blinked in shock. "I think that's... literally all of them."

I HAVE WATCHED THEM ALL!
And ranked them all, from favorite to least! (Three guesses as to what’s #1, given what 97% of the content on this blog is concerned with.)
1. Revelation Lugia: At no point was there any competition for the top slot. Crisp art direction, an appropriately epic scale to the design and the staging of action, a gorgeous musical score (the dub surpassed the original on this point IMO), the best editing and pacing out of any of these movies, and a well-constructed plot that’s simple without being simplistic all speak well for it. But the real selling point for this film is the character work. The CotDs are engaging and play a vital role in the plot without overtaking it. This is the TRio’s finest hour to date IMO. Tracey may be along for the ride (as he often was in the show), but Misty enjoys the best role a travelling companion has gotten to date, and Ash is saddled with his greatest challenge ever (to my knowledge, anyway; I’ve got a hell of a lot of episodes to go in catching up on the series, but it’s hard to top “save the world by yourself because Prophecy.”) And this and the next entry on this list are the only two films where I felt that Ash (and Misty, in this case), more than just experiencing another adventure, actually grew as characters. Not that Johto or the later series built on that growth, but in this show, I’ll take what I can get.
...And, yeah, the pokeshipping doesn’t hurt its rating either.
2. Lucario and the Mystery of Mew: Again, it’s all about the character work here. This is the only other time that Ash seemed to grow, through his relationship with Lucario and his discovery of his Aura (and, in a way, it’s more of a shame that the show never built on this than it is that they never built on Ash and Misty’s growth after Lugia, when you consider that the staff wrote themselves a golden opportunity to do so in DP!) His “this time, it’s personal” goal of saving Pikachu and the parallels between himself and Sir Aaron also serve to enrich his role in a way most of the other pokefilms don’t even attempt. Lucario is the most compelling and dimensional of the movie-featured Pokemon since Mewtwo. Mew is absolutely adorable. The art direction is beautiful, and it’s scope and ambition are appropriate for the high fantasy subject matter. It loses points for some awkward pacing in the front half (the dance is so slow!) and a ridiculous lack of pathos shown when the whole human cast (temporarily) dies, but it makes up a lot of those points with its gutsy ending. No contrived out for the heroic sacrifice this time!
3. Spell of the Unown: So glad I decided to give this film a re-watch. Having an innocent and traumatized little girl, or her feelings of loss and loneliness to be more specific, be the antagonist, is an amazing move by the staff, and it works so well. The threat that those feelings pose to Ash and friends when given immense power is very tangible, though the full impact of that threat takes a while to become apparent. Giving Ash a personal stake in the adventure is very welcome, both travelling companions get decent roles, Charizard’s return is spectacular, and there is some delightfully off-beat and experimental work done in the production design. With the possible exception of Mewtwo Strikes Back, this film has the most ambition and daring of any of them. An uneven pace at the start and a questionable final fight can’t take away the fact that this movie is just cool.
4. Pokemon 4Ever: Possibly the most impressive art direction out of any of the movies; the forest feels huge, and old, and real, just in one look. The Miyazaki-esque look is appropriate for the “destruction of nature” plot, the consequences of which are plainly felt. The time travel aspect is intriguing and not confusing, and Sam is the real hero of the human cast. It tries to give the TRio a real reason to be in the movie, though it’s less successful on that front than Lugia. Drawbacks include a lag in the pace toward the middle, a contrived resurrection, a waste of the travelling companions even by pokefilm standards, and the sidelining of Ash himself.
5. Hoopa and the Clash of Ages: The most threadbare plot out of any of these movies, no real role for the companions or even Ash, and some of the dullest CotDs out there can’t change the fact this is just such a fun movie. Every ten-year old’s dream of an epic inter-gen smash-fest gets thrown on-screen, and even if it doesn’t crank things up to 11, it’s still extremely entertaining. Easily the best thing about XY/Z that I’ve seen so far.
6. Jirachi Wish Maker: An extremely choppy pace and story elements that don’t belong are a serious handicap. But this film not only gives a traveling companion an arc, but makes Max’s friendship with Jirachi the main focus. The damage done to that arc by the plot’s flaws doesn’t erase its charms. And Ash, put into a supporting role, excels in the part, much moreso than in many of these movies where he stays on the sidelines for much of the running time before abruptly becoming the hero.
7. White: Victini and Zekrom/Black: Victini and Rashiram: The “villain’s” actions are poorly motivated and the CotDs are forgettable. But Victini is just so damn cute, and its bond with Ash is so endearing. Those two things elevate the film, and give Ash one of his more dramatically satisfying stints as a glorified plot device. The gimmick of these films, however, feels like a waste.
8. Mewtwo Strikes Back: Compared to my childhood memories of it, this is a very uneven film. The travelling companions have nothing to do, the CotDs are forgettable, the TRio set the “why are we even here” trend up early, the film loses a lot of juice once the battle of clones vs. originals starts (mostly due to sluggish pacing on the fight), and the means of Ash’s revival is infuriatingly dumb. But for the first (and, as far as they knew at the time, only) movie of a kids’ cartoon meant to sell video games, it’s shocking to me how dark they went with this film. Mewtwo is a wonderfully grey character, and his origins and struggles render the first half of the film one of the best sequences in the whole franchise. The idea of prejudice and fighting for superiority as a basis for the conflict is solid in theory if a bit heavy-handed in execution. If Ash and friends (mostly friends) don’t get a lot to do once they reach the island, their journey to it is a fun adventure. And there’s a delightfully twisted horror film look to the production design. For a first outing, this was a very risky film, and even if doesn’t fully work, I think it’s a more impressive effort than most of the pokefilms because of that.
9. Rise of Darkrai: On a technical level, Darkrai has a more even script, and a more consistently solid execution of that script IMO, than Mewtwo. It’s the best of the Sinnoh trilogy by a wide margin. The CotDs (well, Alberto at least) are fun and Darkrai is an effective featured Pokemon. But the problems of the Sinnoh trilogy, while not as pronounced here, are still at hand: a light tone that leaves the Legendaries feeling less impressive than their predecessors, a rather episodic layout to the plot that kills a sense of scale, sluggish pacing and a sense of padding, no real role for the travelling companions, and Ash being a glorified deus ex machina.
10. Kyurem vs. the Sword of Justice: Technical proficiency, a cinematic scale, decent dub work, and excellent use of the travelling companions argue in favor of this one being higher on the list. Arguments against that include this film featuring some of the more poorly-designed Pokemon around, a severe lack of tension and stakes in the plot, and a disappointing role for Ash. Ultimately, it just didn’t grip me the way the films immediately above it did.
11. Arceus and the Jewel of Life: Out of all the Sinnoh trilogy, this one felt the least padded, and helped clear up some of the murky plot mess of the earlier entries. The CotDs are serviceable if a little on the dull side. And this final chapter of the trilogy does aim the highest in its scope and scale, even if it doesn’t reach its goals. But Arceus’s terrible voice in the dub, and his rush to apocalyptic judgement, really hurt the character. And the main cast is worse off here than in the other entries, as Dawn ends up as sidelined as Brock in the finale.
12. Giratina and the Sky Warrior: You can give the film this - Shaymin is a well-developed character. She’s a little shit, but she’s a fleshed-out little shit. And Giratina was the most impressively presented of the Sinnoh Legendaries. But the human villain here is very dull, and Shaymin’s obnoxiousness makes it damn near impossible to get invested in her conflict or to buy her eventual friendship with Ash. On the plus side, wonderful art direction and animation.
13. Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea: This film gets off to a strong start and gives us one of the best CotDs, but it’s overlong, stalls in the middle, and its focus on the main plot comes at the expense of May’s arc with Manaphy. It also has the most maddening plot resolution out of any of them (that’s right - it’s even worse than the magic tears from Mewtwo.)
14. I Choose You!: It earns points for shaking up the routine, giving Ash an arc, and doing a superb job at retelling his first meeting with Pikachu, but its meandering middle, superfluous story turns, and some forced character work bog it down. You can give it this - it was a better anniversary show than “Mastermind of the Mirage Pokemon.”
15. Pokemon Heroes: Possibly the most frustrating of these movies to date for me, because there were a lot of elements - the setting, the mythological background, the Dragon-types - that I really liked. It’s easily one of the most beautiful of the movies, and there was a lot of potential in the plot. But most of that potential was untapped, the elements never gelled, and I was often bored watching it. When I wasn’t bored, I was frustrated and questioning - see my “review” for the whole list. And this may be the worst film on the matter of sidelining the travelling companions.
16. Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction: The charms of the titular character and some brief impressive work with the travelling companions can’t make up for an overstuffed, meandering plot full of easy fixes and an abrupt shift in focus during the last third.
17. Zoroark - Master of Illusions: Very similar situation to Diancie - a wonderful story between the titular Pokemon and Zorua can’t overcome a crowded plot that’s saddled with a weak, scene-hogging villain and terrible pacing.
18. Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel: My biggest problem with this one is that there just wasn’t much about it that was unique. Its many flaws are the same ones that plague at least half these flicks. Its good points are the same sort of good points as in the other movies. Its art direction is pleasant but nothing that wasn’t tried before. It’s just...dull.
19. Genesect and the Legend Awakened: These last two are the only ones I wouldn’t hesitate to say were bad. A fundamental weakness in the plot caused by making the titular Pokemon so unsympathetic, the poor handling of Mewtwo’s return, an unremarkable set of roles for the main cast, uneven animation, and a general feeling of laziness all conspire against a decent premise.
20. Destiny Deoxys - Awkward alien subject matter, lack of a clear emotional core, and the worst padding out of any of these flicks all leave it dead on arrival IMO.

Celebrating 20 years of Pokemon by drawing each mythical Pokemon each month! To tie into the monthly distributions~ This is a BONUS PICTURE! And yes it's not really monthly for the bonus pictures cos I suck and just do em when I feel like I have the motivation. This took 5 months to complete. Once because of a huge lack of motivation, two because I didn't have any ideas, and three because Volcanion is hard to draw. Like, really hard. The scene is taken not from the movie, but from a promotional trailer. I decided to do this as I want Magearna's picture to involve a landscape from the movie. I was wondering if I should have put Magearna and Volcanion in the same picture, but I decided against it. The trailer in question is here: youtu.be/NWtBDuxrcS0?t=1m30s

Celebrating 20 years of Pokemon by drawing each mythical Pokemon each month! To tie into the monthly distributions~ This is a BONUS PICTURE! So after my successful Pokemon 20th Anniversary project in 2016, I ended up failing to keep it up with the bonus pics. However, I've decided time does not matter. The comic is taking all of my time, and that matters a lot more. Basically I haven't had anything else to draw lately, so I picked up on this again~ The Diancie movie might not be one of the best movies of the lot, but it says enough for Diancie to capture my heart. Here we have a Diancie and a Mega Diancie within the Diamond Domain, creating a new Heart Diamond. If you look closely, you'll see another little hint to the movie in there! I've also decided to really tone down the watermark for this picture, and will probably do the same for the rest of the bonus pictures. I'm very proud of this one~ It was looking so calm for the entirety of the picture, until I threw the effects in. Then it changed the tone completely!

It's been a week, and to no one's surprise, Marshadow is the winner of the poll!
I've seen a lot of people requesting Marshadow on Twitter, so I'm not surprised to see it win the poll here. What IS surprising, though, is the losers of the poll, those that didn't get any votes whatsoever. Manaphy I'm not too surprised to see get no votes, but Magearna was really shocking to see totally lose out altogether. I was sure it would get at least one vote...
Well, there were a lot of votes, so we can actually put up a bit of a standing here.
In 1st place, we have Marshadow, holding over 30% of the popular vote.
In 2nd place, it's a tie between Celebi, Jirachi, and Victini. I guess there's still something appealing about little psychic powered pint-sized pokemon.
And in 3rd place, we have Zarude and Calyrex. Kind of odd that they're both Grass Types...
While Melmetal and Shaymin didn't make the cut, at least they got a vote.
Thanks for voting everyone. The next poll will be up very soon.
