EVERYBODY WANTS TO TALK ABOUT SICARIO BUT NO ONE TALKS ABOUT HOW THE MOVIE IS TOLD FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF A WOMAN BEING IN A MALE DOMINATED ENVIRONMENT AND BEING REPEATEDLY UNDERMINED, USED, MANIPULATED, AND THREATENED IN THE NAME OF VENGEANCE, HATRED, AND ANGER BY SAID MEN. EXCEPT ALEJANDRO. Now you’re probably thinking “Benny, Alejandro was in on the whole thing, HES THE VENGEANCE PART and didn’t give a shit about her” AND TO THAT I SAY BOTH THINGS CAN BE TRUE. WE SEE HIM WATCH HER. WE SEE HIM TRY TO EXPLAIN AS MUCH AS HE CAN TO HER. When she points the gun at him once she realizes what’s going on, he shoots her as a warning but not to kill her, to let her know that he has the ability to if she tries again. It’s not out of anger or malice, but out of necessity. The morning after he saves her from almost being strangled to death, he is the only one to watch her and ask her if she is feeling better. When he tells her in the end that she reminds him of his daughter, there is humility there. The vengeance he acted out was for his wife and daughter. A woman. A girl. PEOPLE. PERSONS. Other human beings he loved and respected. He sees them in her. And yet still levels a gun at her. Because he also knows just how corrupt the operation he is apart of is. He respects her enough to tell her to get out while she can but also will end her life if he has to. The way he doesn’t get wrapped up in the locker room talk the other men do around her. He is as respectful of her as a cold blooded killer can be. He doesn’t see her as a woman. But as a person that he may or may not have to kill. HES RESPECTFUL BECAUSE HE IS DETACHED AND BECAUSE HE MIGHT HAVE TO KILL HER. WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT THE OTHER MEN INVOLVED IN THE OPERATION.

"One day she comes home and finds him hanging up his shirts on the drying rail in the mud room, above the drier. New shirts by the look of them, and later she spots one of them at the back of a chair, its sleeves softly draping down to the floor. An elegant, expensive looking oxford, so she steals a glance at the label. Todd Snyder’s… Hm. Expensive choice. She pretends not to be interested but touches the material when passing the chair and enjoys the softness of it. He has good taste and obviously has the money to order such shirts. She wonders under what name his packages arrive to the post office. It would be easy to go and use her position to ask, but she doesn’t want anybody to know that he lives in her rented house."

Sicario (2015)

Sicario has multiple scenes of police strobe lights at night, and a few instances of bright muzzle flashes from machine guns in dark environments.

There is some mild handheld camera work. Some shots mounted on cars and aircraft may be mildly disorienting.

Flashing Lights: 8/10. Motion Sickness: 2/10.

TRIGGER WARNING: Children are victims of severe violence. In one of the opening scenes, multiple people vomit as a reaction to witnessing the aftermath of violence, which includes decomposing bodies. A sexual encounter turns violent.
