Everyday a tragedy, an emergency, a panic.

I'm exhausted from sheltering my children from the news, from dancing around the cruelty and the horrors in the hope that I can give them one more shred of innocence and childhood optimism before reality sets in.

What a world, to be both so beautiful and so horrible all at once, and to search for the space in the middle where I grew up, where I wasn't afraid to turn on the news in the morning, where I didn't bet on the worst outcomes, and where the light at the end of the tunnel was a beam and not a pinprick.

I love my Golden Retriever husband but I really need him to go find somewhere else to be cute and sweet and eager to help while I'm pissed off and want to burn the world down and stare into the fire of my rage. Like, can't you see I'm trying to wallow in the worst of my qualities right now? Damn.

I want so badly to be a morning person. I want to get up, fix my morning coffee, feel wondrous about the state of existence, and do great things; but unfortunately, I just grumble all day and trudge through it, until about 7 PM when all of the magic in the universe finds me and inspires me to do things until about 3 AM.
