Art dump from 2017-19 of my various O.K. K.O. fanart as well as an old sketchbook walkthrough including some of the stuff posted here! I was OBSESSED with this show back then. If I hadn't been working through burnout, there'd probably be more O.K. K.O. related vids too (I have audio recorded for something now. I'm just looking for a decent beginner and Linux friendly video editing program!)
A lot of these were from my awkward hard shift into traditional media vs the mix of digital and traditional I made pre-2016 (my harddrive at the time died and I was really discouraged from digital after that). I've figured out a good mix of what I like from the mediums I use now but it took awhile to get there, heheh.

Guess who has to thumbs and found out about Great God Grove? *gestures to myself *
I knew I had to check out this game as soon as I saw Thespius. I was hooked within a few minutes of watching the walkthrough. I love the characters and the world they lived in. The communication mechanic was the cherry on top.
I’ll refine this sketch tomorrow (hopefully). I don’t think I’ll make it into a finished piece, since it is in a SKETCHBOOK. My goal is to get pencil on paper after a while.

So, your Madoka Kaname drawing looks amazing, and as a traditional artist, I was trying to observe to see if I could learn from your drawing.
One thing that stuck out to me was the shading and outlines.
How do you shade so well? How do you know which colors to use, and where to use them? Same question goes for outlines, too.
hihihihiii!! first of all thank u so much, im rlly flattered that u were so impressed 🫶🫶 im honestly really surprised how much attention my drawing got gyuh
anyways!! the picture i referenced was from the crash fever x pmmm crossover, so it’s by no means completely original. here’s the side by side comparison of the (cropped) og image vs in my sketchbook!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so, most of the actual shading decisions and placements are from the original work. however, i had to change up the colors a bit because of the selection i had. (please note that my version is also darker because of lighting and iphone picture quality 😭😭)
also, for most of my drawings i follow the call of the wind (make guesses) and fufill the prophecies (keep adding more colors until it looks okay)
that being said, below the cut is a full coloring walkthrough if you’re still interested!!
please note that this is much smaller scale and done in less time (took an hour instead of two days 😨) so the quality will be a bit less!!
alright. so let’s say we wanna draw this image, but we tweaked it a bit because drawing BOTH eyes was too much of a hassle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
after you clean your sketch, the best thing to do is open with an outline that’s not QUITE black but close to it.
Tumblr media
now, i have a rule. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE remember this rule: you can use ANY color. for your outline, shading, whatever. it doesn’t have to match the reference.
if you are using this as a genuine tutorial, please know that i change colors every fucking time i draw. i change mediums too. this is only the process i used for my madoka drawing (as best as i can remember)
cuz, like my art teacher said, you have this thing called artistic license, which means you have the right to change whatever the FUCK you want if you think it makes your drawing better. make her purple, give her one ponytail, whatever. as long as you can make it work, have fun!!
anyways. next, go over that outline with other dark colors of different hues. there’s no rhyme or reason, it’s just fun.
Tumblr media
after, place your highlights on the hair. i used cream instead of the pastel pink in the original because i like cream better and it adds more hues.
Tumblr media
usually, i start with the darkest value instead for shading as it’s more vibrant, but madoka doesn’t have any really standout dark tones. it’s okay though i love her
then, you gotta go in with base colors. simple pink and peach yada yada
Tumblr media
listen, quick reminder: YOUR BASE COLORS DON’T MATTER AS LONG AS YOU CAN STILL ADD ONTO THEM!!!
just pick a light base close to the original. don’t agonize over it. apply lightly and gently in circular motions, and you’ll be okay!!
next, we adjust the tone of the hair. i wanted a cooler toned pink, so i added amethyst. i also added a bit to the stray eye.
Tumblr media
after, adjust your tone more as needed. again, any color goes. the means justify the ends, and if you end up adding some blue or yellow or whatever then good!! go bonkers with it. i used vermillion.
Tumblr media
next, add shading blocks (referenced from the original image!) in a color that’s light enough to blend in more but dark enough to see (amethyst is my favorite for this, and i use it a lot!!) you can also add extra shading in some areas to give it some personality.
Tumblr media
after THAT, blend in your shading a bit more with your base colors. by this point you should be pressing down a lot to get the pigment you want. i think for her skin i added beige instead of peach in this step, but that’s also what i did for the above drawing.
Tumblr media
the purpose of this is to mute your colors a bit so they fit together more. however, if you want it to pop, you don’t have to add another base color!!
i also went over the outlines with the base color to lighten them and even out the drawing. i do that with almost every step, as needed. follow your heart on that one
also, i gave her a little bit of blush in that step. just because.
ok, so now is the fun part. for the hair and any accessories/clothes/things of the same texture, add random streaks of random colors.
Tumblr media
yeah, go ahead, add orange, blue, yellow, whatever. it’s best if it’s of the same value (aka darkness) so it fits in with the base color, but it can be anything!!
you don’t have to do this, but it’s fun.
also, i shaded the eye too offscreen. same process, because pmmm’s style has a very flat texture on characters. thus, it’s okay to use the same shading technique.
now, we can do the same with accessories!! these are simpler and i honestly got too lazy to even reference for the scarf because the hair was the main focus.
Tumblr media
finally, add little details, clean up anything you don’t like, and do whatever you want with it!!
Tumblr media
that’s all i do for shading, and i hope it helped a bit. i mainly work with pen and paint markers, but the process is the same aside from tweaking parts.
just remember:
its your art do whatever the fuck you want
LAYER LAYER LAYER fix anything by adding new things
it doesnt have to be perfect yada yada
fun color = fun drawing
it doesnt have to look like the picture because thats boring and you wont learn if you try and carbon copy everything you see

My Voice: “The Quarry” is a Spectacular Summer Slasher
Tumblr media
July 12, 2022
Supermassive Games has published the newest game in their horror library. Famous for “Until Dawn” and the Dark Pictures Anthology, Supermassive Games has received both incredible praise and incredible criticism in response to their games. Their new game, titled The Quarry, is no exception to this tradition.
The Quarry is a fast-paced horror game set at a summer camp in a place called Hackett’s Quarry. You play as counselors trying to survive the night and investigate the mysterious Hackett family. As a fan of Until Dawn and a critic of the Dark Pictures Anthology, I found The Quarry to be a welcome return to form. It’s a a game that feels like a genuine spiritual successor to Until Dawn, with cheesy one-liners and all. If you’d like to play it blind, please go do so, then come back to hear my thoughts on it.
Tumblr media
This article is a story discussion, not a comprehensive gameplay walkthrough. That being said, the game waits to reveal that the beasts are werewolves. I will not. We are working with traditional, full moon, old lycanthropy lore: werewolves.
The prologue does a fantastic job setting up the story. I actually like the juvenile and cheesy ‘Officer Hackett is a bad guy – no, wait, he’s complex’ plot twist in the later game because few stories and games do camp right. This a game that knows it’s over the top, that it’s ridiculous, and that it has the freedom to be silly and stupid. What other modern game fulfills its genre so well? There’s a fundamental difference between being tacky on purpose and poor writing. That’s what I loved about Until Dawn and it’s what Supermassive has been missing since.
“Chapter One: Hackett’s Quarry Forever!” takes place two months after the events of the prologue. We see the last bus of campers leave, being waved off by the counselors. These are the main characters of the game and you will play as each of them. You learn about them through the game. For readability, I will list their basic information now:
Abigail – The art tutor. Abi is a caring and sensitive soul, she’s an artist who is always carrying a sketchbook. She has a crush on Nick.
Emma – The theater coach. Emma is an internet content creator. She hides her complexity behind her pretty girl persona. She is a people pleaser and perfectionist. She dated Jacob as a summer fling, and broke up with him today.
Dylan – The camp DJ / radio technician. Dylan is incredibly intelligent but uses camp as a break from academic pressure, so he can just be a typical guy. He is gay – evidenced by the fact his character has no options to flirt with the opposite sex. The player can have him fall in love with Ryan.
Jacob – The sports coach. He’s a jock who’s sweet and also a bit dimwitted. He thought his relationship with Emma wasn’t just for fun. He causes the entire night by secretly breaking the car, forcing everyone to stay instead of going home, so they can have ‘one last party together’.
Kaitlyn – The activities coordinator / nurse. Kaitlyn is a natural leader. She’s mischievous and likes to cause drama. She’s great at reading social cues and reasoning with people to get what she wants from them. The player can choose to have her fall in love with Ryan.
Nick – The cook. He’s a preppy Australian who knows he’s charming. His beast attack is unavoidable and his main purpose is to show the group they’re dealing with werewolves. Nick has a crush on Abi.
Ryan – The sailing coach / campfire storyteller. Ryan is quiet, shy, and a loner. He loves the paranormal and often listens to podcasts about it. He is the counselor who is closest to Mr. Hackett and is the only one who calls him by his first name. He also might know more than he lets on. Ryan is bisexual and can fall in love with either Kaitlyn or Dylan.
Other than giving a basic introduction to these characters and the location itself, the chapter’s main purpose is to set up the starting conflict. Jacob breaks the van and Mr. Hackett’s reacts by demanding the group just lock themselves in the main cabin for the rest of the night ‘for safety’. The group decides to party the second he leaves instead of listening to his warnings. This sets up the player for a hell of a night.
Tumblr media
We know there are werewolves, but the counselors do not. Mr. Hackett’s reluctance in telling them is understandable. A big plot hole here is that he didn’t simply drive them to the nearby motel mentioned in the prologue. Also, why did they end camp on the day of a full moon?! That’s bad planning all around.
All in all, the plot’s quick start is appreciated. I sincerely thought we’d have at least one chapter of ‘party time’ before the werewolves joined in. That was quite the shock. I also love that instead of keeping the Hacketts to the shadows entirely, Supermassive made the creative choice of showing Bobby, and showing him saving Jacob, which gave us such important information about him.
