WIP Wednesday

Another week, another tag game! Please share your last sentence; or, if you don’t have one, share a plot bunny or idea! (OR sketch for your artwork!)

I have been so busy I have not had much time to write this past week. I managed to get a few paragraphs done in Chapter 11 of my Aldflaed WIP Darkest Before the Dawn; I hope to finish this chapter by the end of the week but I don't know how that will go lol!

Aldhelm stopped at the small village about a thirty-minute ride just south of Saltwic to rest for the night before continuing his journey to Lunden. He sat outside the entrance to the inn, half-heartedly drinking a small ale in an attempt to calm his nerves, the breeze of the night air cool against his flushed face. His heart was still pounding in his chest, as if he had been fighting a horde of Danes. He convinced himself that the visit was strictly for sharing information with her, but he could no longer pretend that he did not have an ulterior motive for traveling to her estate.

I finished my first pet portrait of the year, a cat named Chibi! You can see that post here.

Next on my list is a panther chameleon named Sherbert. Here is the rough sketch I just sent the owner for approval:

This will be fun, as he is very colorful! He has a lot of red, orange, yellow, and green coloration and the background will be dark with pothos leaves and branches.

In other WIP news, here is also what I am working on currently:

Making gifsets for 4.04 (there will be several as he was in it for most of the episode!) this week and adding to my queue

Making more edits for S3 for my Pinterest (just because....)

My edit for Mercian Monday next week (still haven't decided what to do for that)

Finish making Wihtgar gifs from Season 4 (still have to do 4.03)

Here is what I have planned for this year:

Making caps from the movie

Re-editing my screencaps (yess all two thousand of them!) and reposting them in much smaller batches. I am not happy with the way they look currently; the coloring is too cyan/blue especially in S2 and 5, they are not sharpened, and many of them are still too dark. I will be recapping everything from scratch to do this, so this is a long term project.

Making gifs of the BTS videos (Aldhelm-only ones; there are still a LOT that I have not done yet)

Adding all the BTS pics and vids from TheLastKingdom Instagram page as well as other cast/crew's Instagrams (the directors and costume designer have a lot of great pics!) to my queue (there are, like, 600+ posts so this will take a while lol)

Giffing/capping the rest of James' filmography (I have five films left to do, as well as his upcoming TV series 'Marie Antoinette' whenever that is released) [low priority]

Learning how to do more complex gifs/edits

So, I originally started this blog so I could reblog all the Aldhelm posts I had been bookmarking over the past year and a half, keeping them all in one place since I did not want to post them on my main art blog. I also wanted to use it to post my fic, since I finally decided to take the risk and publish it for better or for worse, and also share all the screencaps I had been taking for drawing references (and just for my own pleasure let's be honest here).

I am rather late to this fandom, having binge watched this show in the middle of last year (2022) just as season 5 was released. It was sitting in my watchlist on Netflix for a few years, but I neglected it, thinking it was just another Vikings ripoff. Boy was I wrong. This show has really gotten to me in a way that no other TV show or movie has. I have never been so obsessed with a TV show or movie in my entire life.

But what compelled me to make an Aldhelm blog? Well, for starters, it had become apparent to me that, although many in this fandom like his character, very few consider him to be their favorite character, and far fewer still are obsessed about him in the same way that many are about Sihtric or Finan, for example. I still can't wrap my head around that, but maybe I am the weirdo, so oh well. I will create another post about why I love him so much at a later date if anyone cares to read it.

There are tons of blogs for the show in general and for other characters, and most of Uhtred's "pretty boys" get lots of love on here, but not so much for Aldhelm. I don't know if anyone else will really care about anything on this blog, but it is honestly not why I made it. This is more for my own sake than anyone else's, and if anyone else gets anything out of this that is great too.
