But her golden armour is enough to tell you that she is still ready to pick up a weapon if needed. Adventure Hiking Trail

Part 2/3 of the Indiana Triple Crown, 26 miles and nearing 6 hours ❣️

~900 calories and ~80 oz water (some with calories) consumed, with a salt tab each hour proved run altering

I fall more in love with this trail every time, but what trail is that not true for? The rock features and various waterways the trail runs above stand out as the leaves drop and this was an ideal time to run it, aside from creeks being dry (bring a filter or stash some).

I had done some longer runs on the AHT over the years, but don’t think I had completed it in its entirety since my friend Laura and I put our names on the FKT lead board 🤘🏻 Another hidden gem of Indiana that offers anything but flat terrain, nearing 5,000 feet of elevation.

The 8 mile section between Cold Friday and Old Forest Road feels like a wilderness and I did filter a few ounces of water into a handheld with a squeezy LIfe Straw bag filter, just in case but think I barely ending up drinking from it, still having some in my bladder. It was a great day to be outside, practicing my craft, traveling along cliffs and chilled by the shadows in the ravines as it was getting close to dusk. I felt alive and capable.

Doey wasn't sure what to make of the "employee" Poppy brought to Safe Haven. Hell, he wasn't sure what to make of Poppy. Especially not with how she abandoned them- No. No time for that. Not in front of the minis, at least.

And especially not in front of the employee.

Right, the employee.

Giving his head a good shake, Doey quickly turned his attention to the woman standing before him.

Tall - for a human he supposed - with a large build and round features, dark hair pulled back in a ponytail with blue eyes that sent an uncomfortable shiver down his non-existent spine.

She couldn't be any older than Kevin would be, if they even aged in this body. Surely too young to have worked at the factory. Why is she here? Family, friends? Could've been an orphan who actually got adopted, but why would any of them return, if any actually existed? Asking never hurt-

"Poppy said I should speak to you."

Doey managed to suppress the jump, but not the faint ripples it sent through him. That's the first thing the employee has ever said to him, having said not a word the entire journey to Safe Haven with him, despite his multiple attempts at conversation, with not even a squeal when Yarnaby was nipping at her heels.

Failing to hide his surprised look, Doey took in the employee - he'd just realized he was never told nor asked her name, if Poppy even knew herself - before him.

"O-oh, heya Pal! I- Uh- have something I wanna talk to you about." Awkwardly fidgeting in place before gesturing to the auxiliary power room, it felt as if the employee's gaze bore right through him and the wall behind; probably just embarrassment or something. Anxiety. Paranoia?

The employee wordlessly followed Doey. Embarrassingly enough, he found himself considering keeping the door open, just in case, but he isn't some scaredy cat, the employee wouldn't hurt an ally. Not when they're so few.

The entire conversation, if you could call it that, was like needles prickling all over his mass, being back under that horrible florescent light with the scientists who hurt, sitting at that table answering questions with all the wrong answers. Oddly tense, yet unnervingly calm all at once.

He wanted out of that room as fast as possible, or have the employee leave to go work their toy slaying magic; whichever came first.

Much to his relief, it ended with the latter; albeit after a few seconds of the employee's prolonged staring. And smiling. Smiling.

Smiling like she wasn't in hell. Smiling like she didn't have to crawl over the bodies of her own kind to be here. Smiling like she hasn't been hunted down like a dog by living toys since she stepped foot into the factory. Smiling like she knew something.

It was just a smile. He's one of the few friendly faces she's come across since she got here, of course she'd be smiling. She's probably just a bit worse for wear right now. Hopefully she'll accept his offer and rest before going back out.

But he's not quite sure he wants the employee to accept. Shamed as he is to admit it.

The sooner she left, the better.
