#we run this summer fellowship program every year#and historically have only had 3-5 students apply for it#this year I went hard promoting it - info sessions email blasts class visits personal invitations to faculty mentors you name it#and a few weeks ago redacted was like#I鈥檓 very disappointed that your efforts didn鈥檛 result in more applications#we had really hoped to have a larger applicant pool this year#to which I closed my eyes and took a deep breath and was like#the application doesn鈥檛 close until May 15#we do not yet even KNOW what the pool will look like#so it seems premature to chastise me for not doing a good job recruiting students#but you know. let鈥檚 just wait and see. maybe you鈥檙e right and I鈥檓 bad at my job#WELL#as of this morning we already have 30 applicants#and the application is open until midnight#i am thinking we could get as high as 40 but tbd#that might not seem like that many!! but increasing from 3-5 to 30+ is pretty good for the first year of really concertedly trying!!#and I bet we will get even more traction next year!#that鈥檚 30+ kids who will be having a paid structured summer experience with advising support!
