Just shattered my entire world view by learning that Ronald Reagan was responsible for making GPS available outside of the US Military, for free, as a common good.

This goes against every single thing I know and loathe about the guy and his administration.

#ramble #us politics #he did make it so only the us military got fully accurate use. but still. that's insane. REAGAN?? giving out a government service FOR FREE?#still fuck reagan. oh my god. i would incinerate the guy atom by atom if i could.#bill clinton later went on to remove the inaccuracies for other uses which is how you can use google maps today #gps is still maintained by the us military and provided to anyone for free. its also no longer capable of being selectively accurate #so they couldnt just switch off gps for the rest of the world. also because many other satellite systems exist now #which seems smart considering certain tyrannic toddlers enjoy the idea of rescinding their communication satellites #the us government also invented cheese crust pizza but that was for nefarious reasons so it makes sense to me
