Hosted by the nation’s premier power supplier, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Asian Utility Week is being brought together with POWERGEN Asia, DISTRIBUTECH Asia, SolarVision and Energy Capital Leaders Asia under one roof for the first time.
Clarion Energy has announced the inaugural 5-in-1 Power & Energy Series featuring POWERGEN Asia, Asian Utility Week, DISTRIBUTECH Asia, SolarVision and Energy Capital Leaders Asia.
Scheduled from 3 to 5 September 2019 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), the event will gather together major players in the power and energy fraternity, with one show covering the whole value chain focused on conventional and renewable generation, to transmission and distribution, to its digital transformation and including the financing of the energy transition by industry.
The Power & Energy Series is endorsed by the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment & Climate Change Malaysia (MESTECC).
The highly anticipated five leading energy series will involve 350 exhibitors and is expected to draw over 11,000 visitors and 2,000 international buyers, spreading over 22,000 sqm at the venue. The exhibition will bring insights on practical strategies towards achieving renewable targets while addressing the key issues of energy security across the region.
The establishment of the Power & Energy Series is in line with MESTECC’s energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives. Malaysia has huge potential in renewable energy resources, especially with the new roadmap for energy transition known as the Renewable Energy Transition Roadmap (RETR) 2035.
In this regard, the Power & Energy Series creates a good platform to explore the possible strategies and action plan to support the rapid growth of the industry, especially with efforts from private entities to embark on strategies to produce more renewable energy. Industry players will also be able to keep up-to-date with the latest innovation and technology at the event.
“As Malaysia’s leading power utility company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad is committed towards collaborative efforts to bring secure, affordable and sustainable energy for all. We are pleased to support platforms such as the POWERGEN Asia & Asian Utility Week 2019, which serve as important touchpoints for policymakers, industry players and consumers to convene and connect towards viable energy transition solutions,” said Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s CEO, Amir Hamzah Azizan.
According to Nick Rastall, portfolio director Asia of Clarion Energy, a number of leading events were taken this year and added to Asian Utility Week to form the first 5-in-1 Power & Energy Series. “Not only will participants benefit from knowledge sharing from different industries, but it also presents unrivalled business opportunities for key organisations within the field. This event plays a crucial role in bringing together leading power, energy and utility companies with innovative professionals, to drive the changing landscape and discover the future of the power and energy industry in Asia,” said Rastall.
It is strongly supported by the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MYCEB), an agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC). MyCEB serves as a central hub to assist meeting and event planners to bid and stage international business events in Malaysia and act as a conduit for national product development to all local and international organisers. Business events are a catalyst for socio-economic growth and help to elevate the lives of the professional and local communities in Malaysia.
The 5-in-1 Power & Energy Series comprises:
POWERGEN Asia: A plethora of power generation events and panel discussions will witness experts sharing on finance and strategic market issues, ASEAN’s green revolution, plant performance optimisation, conventional power 4.0 and the power of digital plants for advancing Asia’s generation sector.
Asian Utility Week: Focusing on utility digital transformation and digital energy efficiency, this event is designed to help utilities do business with the world’s digital technology leaders and to help commercial and industrial customers meet their energy efficiency obligation to save money and improve sustainability programs.
DISTRIBUTECH Asia: Many talented professionals and developers will be sharing on technical strategies to support fast-tracking renewable power integration into power grids and solutions for effectively stabilising standalone power solutions.
SolarVision: This event serves the whole solar power market value chain, from the latest components and cell or module technologies to protect financing and development to installation and operation.
Energy Capital Leaders Asia: Discussing energy transition from an investment perspective, this event is dedicated to assisting the financial and investment community to generate change and more value from the opportunities arising from Asia’s shift to renewable energy.
Along with the main events, this electrifying leviathan event will present numerous networking opportunities, seminars and panel discussions. Also happening are free educational events, exhibitions, panel sessions, knowledge hubs and meet-ups in various locations around the venue.
The Power & Energy Series is open to professionals and business visitors from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm on 3 & 4 September 2019. It will be open from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm on 5 September 2019. For more information and to register, visit https://www.asian-utility-week.com/registration. Alternatively, visitors may register on-site during the event or from 1.00 pm to 6.00 pm on 2 September 2019.

The co-location of POWERGEN Asia, Asian Utility Week, DistribuTECH Asia, SolarVision and Energy Capital Leaders in 2019 provides you with one show covering the whole value chain of power and energy – from conventional and renewable generation to transmission and distribution; to its digital transformation and how the industry will finance the energy transition.
The combination of these leading energy shows brings unprecedented authority, with insights shared by the world’s most forward-thinking experts and innovators.
This article was originally published in Smart Energy International 3-2019. Read the full digimag here or subscribe to receive a print copy here.
POWERGEN Asia has, over its 27-year history, established itself as the leading platform, where the power industry comes together to share information on the challenges being faced and to discuss opportunities and solutions for advancing Asia’s generation sector.
At the core of POWERGEN Asia is the desire to help power utilities and IPPs in the region maximise their generation assets and showcase world-leading products and services that will help them achieve that.
This 3-day event offers a comprehensive conference program focused on helping the industry Navigate the Energy Transition in Asia, as well as presenting a truly international Exhibition.
DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION
Asian Utility Week celebrates its 20th edition, having begun as a small event focused on smart metering and billing issues. In recent years, it has expanded the digital theme to include digital transformation topics which include real time analytics and visualisation, cloud platforms, machine learning applications, mobile field services, smart home-business service platforms, and customer engagement strategies which are relevant to liberalised energy markets.
Asian Utility Week is designed to help utilities meet and do business with the world’s digital technology leaders. It’s also designed to help commercial and industrial customers meet their energy efficiency obligation to save money and improve sustainability programs.
The topics are all closely linked with data capture, data communication and analytics programs.
RACE TO THE EDGE
DISTRIBUTECH Asia focuses on the technical strategies to support fast tracking renewable power integration into the power grids, and solutions for effectively stabilising standalone power solutions. The program includes the latest in distribution automation and microgrid strategies that are being developed for advanced energy markets – to highlight development roadmaps – and to offer R&D partnerships in Asia.
Major investment being poured into building the grid edge – supporting a decentralised energy model. This model is supported by new energy services being developed by utilities and others who go directly to large energy users with niche services for carbon reduction and energy efficiency technology.
FINANCING THE ENERGY TRANSITION
In partnership with the Energy Council, we bring you Energy Capital Leaders to ensure the most diverse audience possible assembles to discuss energy transition from an investment perspective. Energy Capital Leaders is dedicated to assisting the financial and investment community to generate change and more value from the opportunities arising from Asia’s shift to renewable energy. We investigate the implications from moving beyond coal, to how gas-to-power and clean tech solutions like solar and storage will radically change the energy value chain.
Our focus is upon bringing together investors and asset owners from traditional utilities and oil majors to look at navigating the finance and investment landscape to support the energy transition, and won’t just be approaching it from a geopolitical standpoint. SEI
