something i havent seen yet as far as i can tell is the fucking insane implication that the reason that the taurtis clones call out to sam -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- is because taurtis in his last moments most likely thought about him and it carried on to the clones' memories with the same desperation in wanting to be saved and the love taurtis has for his best friend
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's why i think all the clones turn towards sam specifically and not grian because taurtis himself was only thinking about sam. if we take yandere into consideration and the start of yhs — it is sort of implied that they've been friends with each other Longer than they have been with grian + they've lived together for a long time as well since they stay in the Gladiator residence (alone) for the early parts of yhs
isn't it fucking horrifying that this kid, who spent most of his life with one person, gets sent to the hospital and replaced, dealing with all the shit that sam's done because he gets dragged into it as his friend, and then once he gets essentially kidnapped, he thinks about sam for his Last Final Moments only to be immediately replaced and brushed off with a clone. with several clones. with another version.
you're never going to be your own person. you're never going to be remembered for who you are and only as the concept of you. you're never going to be saved and you're never getting a funeral. they mourn for the lack of you, not who you were.
and the big thing is they never really do. they pay respects, sure, (TS E 21 around the end) but when sam and taurtis two see the letter, sam mostly brushes it off because the higher priority is gym class? and poor 2 who had to grasp the fact that he is a clone, and not the original that he thought he was. and im not sure just yet how much they reference original taurtis, but in the finale when they're discussing about having another taurtis;
GRIAN: At what point do we just... take the L?
SAM: Wait, you don't want Taurtis back?
GRIAN: Well- But- I'm just saying like-
GRIAN: How many Taurtises do we have to kill-
SAM, overlapping: As many as- as there is.
SAM: I'm never giving up on Taurtis.
SAM: HE IS OUR FRIEND, DUDE.
SAM: Even if he gets sacrificed to minion zombies and then meets an alternate version of himself named Jerry,
SAM, louder and harsher: I'M NOT GOING TO GIVE UP ON HIM.
^ from this alone you can see how sam feels about taurtis as a person when sam just wants the comfort of having a taurtis around, not so much that it's him
it's why sam didn't feel as bothered that the original died, he had clones that served the concept well. it's why sam dressed grian up and that was enough to comfort him because the idea of taurtis is around. it's why sam dismisses the fact that they should give up on trying to replace the original because he needs a taurtis to even function (it's why he crashes out multiple times so hard without him) and it's why he says "As many as there is." to grian's "How many Taurtises do we have to kill [before we just have to accept the loss]"
sam just can't accept the fact that taurtis is gone moreso that taurtis is a person rather than something him stable. idk. isn't it crazy that your perception warps so hard that your love for your best friend turns into an obsession that leaves him as an idea to you? isnt it crazy that your love for your best friend has you get dragged in to everything he does, consequences and all, to the point that you're grateful for everything anyway and you never get mourned?
something something saurtis whatever idgaf how you interpret this. it's just interesting :-( my kids ...

My advice to my code solvers is to Google cyphers and edit my pages in photo editing software
You guys haven’t found the first secret I’ve put in this chapter already but I do put secrets in the pages so often

moonday I surprised myself and did 108 new lines in canto3. canto3 is maybe bloating tf out right now (and length certainly seems to be an impediment for other people going into the last couple worlds I dropped) but I dont think I'm bothered. I honestly don't think I'm clever enough at this point of my life to get out in front of my own deficiencies. It seems self-defeating to do anything except steer harder into all the things I'm selfconscious about, as far as making the worlds goes. Obscene profuse unstoppable hemophiliac splatter was an image that recurred often in things I wrote when I was teenager. I just was looking at a RT of the insert that came with the "Role Playa" 12" (a d&d character sheet) and it hit me that I must have encoded some kind of message in the numerical stats there. Tried putting the numbers into a alphanumeric cypher solver site and didn't come up with anything. The first three digits are 443 though--a baltimore exchange-- so was maybe an old phone number encoded there? Still a little too early for me to have a real cellphone when that record came out. The lines (second for the modem natch) at my parents' house were 410 numbers (443 was added later) but I was a freshman in college when this record came out so maybe it was a dorm room number?
tuesday I went and helped a tiny bit with M___ and M___'s kickstarter video for a humonguous d20 and after that I read some Scivias and Nibelungenlied and then played ck2 for too many hours.
So there's 1053 lines in "l.l.liber 1" rn. P sure I'm more than halfway but it's quite possible I'm not much further than 57%. But who can say. In my head in bed last night when all the lights were off I went through and tried to reorganize this project in a way that would expedite its completion but after thinking about it awhile I decided it's a bad idea to even think about it. Got to commit to the inspiration instead of correcting the inspiration. It comes as fast as it comes and it not coming at the pace I'd prefer (regardless how practical the reasons involved) is not automatically attributable to some defect on my part. Gonna eat a bowl of beans with smoked turkey in there and watch ZP and then finish (tilde)9-10 more stanzas for canto3 and then canto3 will be done.

Tackling the GCHQ 2021 Christmas Card!
In today's blog post, we tackle the challenge of this year's GCHQ Christmas Card!
Every year, one of the puzzliest challenges many solvers will encounter all year descends upon the world, as the GCHQ issue their Christmas card. The GCHQ — or Government Communications Headquarters — provides security and intelligence services for the British government. Back when they were known as GC&CS — Government Code and Cypher School — they were responsible for funding Bletchley Park and…

The newest British bank note features Alan Turing and geeky puzzles, flourishes

The newest British bank note features Alan Turing and geeky puzzles, flourishes
The new £50 bank note that’s just been unveiled in the UK features the face of Alan Turing on one side – and in tribute to the legendary mathematician and codebreaker, UK intelligence agency GCHQ has set a series of tricky puzzles linked to the note.
According to GCHQ, the 12 riddles should take experienced solvers around seven hours to complete from start to finish. If you want to give them a try, you can find the so-called Turing Challenge online here.
The brain teasers pick out various symbols, signs, and drawings on the bank note, including a representation of Hut 8 – the section in the Government Code and Cypher School (GC&CS) at Bletchley Park where Turing was based during World War II.
Other riddles cover Turing’s birthday, which is written in binary on the £50 note, and the foil on the note that has been altered to resemble a microchip, in honor of Turing’s work in computer science.
There’s also a sunflower on the note, recognizing Turing’s interest in morphogenetics, or the study of shape and architecture in plants. This has inspired another of the challenges set by GCHQ.
Other puzzles are based on the British Bombe technical drawings on the note – that’s the code-breaking machine Turing used – and a table from Turing’s 1936 paper “On Computable Numbers, with an application to the Entscheidungsproblem”. That paper eventually led to the idea of the Turing Machine.
As well as issuing the Turing Challenge, GCHQ bosses again acknowledged the appalling ways Turing was treated during his lifetime. He was prosecuted for having a gay relationship, had to undergo chemical castration as a result, and eventually took his own life.
“Turing was embraced for his brilliance and persecuted for being gay,” says Jeremy Fleming, the director of GCHQ. “His legacy is a reminder of the value of embracing all aspects of diversity, but also of the work we still need to do to become truly inclusive.”
Turing contributed a huge amount to mathematics, computer science, and other fields during his lifetime. His work cracking the codes of the German Enigma machine for the British government probably saved millions of lives by bringing World War II to an earlier end, according to several experts.
Scientists are still making discoveries today that back up theories Turing came up with decades ago. He devised the well-known Turing test for assessing artificial intelligence and co-created the first chess computer program.
The new note goes into circulation on June 23, Turing’s birthday, and is the latest UK note to be converted from paper to a polymer; the new material lasts longer and is harder to create counterfeits of.
We should probably leave the last word to Alan Turing himself, which also appears on the £50 bank note. It’s something he said of one of the very first computing machines he helped develop, the Manchester Mark 1.
“This is only a foretaste of what is to come and only the shadow of what is going to be,” Turing told The Times in 1949 – something else that he got exactly right.

Alex stared at the destructive dessert, which they'd moved to the small table in their kitchen, arms crossed and lips bitten. The idea of sending the cake pre-lit was an intriguing one but how...
Alex wasn't someone who pulled pranks. They were the subject of numerous ones on this day, and so was their brother, and anyone else within the vicinity who breathed. No, Alex was more a tactician in this case. Sending a cake out of the blue was too suspicious (especially with that exposed rocket), and a cover story could only get them so far even if they made it believable. If they sent the cake pre-lit and no one was there to witness it, what was the point of the "cake" part, aside from the mess? A punchline without a joke. Taking the cake directly to the target would be too close. They'd not only be hit in the crossfire, but they'd be roped in closer to the madness no doubt going on in that household. They couldn't call for backup, because no one was reliable. No one could be trusted. Not today at least.
After a little while they smiled. No, no they stopped smiling. No... Yes, they were going to smile about this, and nod to themself. This plan could work. This plan would take advantage of Alex themself. Their curiosity, their trust, and the fact that they weren't typically attentive of specific dates.
They practically had to blow dust off one of the old cartages, but they took an empty card from the unused sylladex, lit the cake, and instantly trapped it inside. As per usual, the card bugged out and coded itself with a random cypher, and to unlock the contents they'd have to solve the puzzle. Frenchie was more of a rubix cube gentlemen- a physical puzzle solver- but Alex would send a message with it, sharing the intrigue and excitement, offering a.
"Oh! The dragons had to be taken out for a walk and for a hunt, which would take a while. Afterwards they should head to the temple for some more reconstruction work. Clearly, far too busy and studious, they couldn't visit Frenchie in person to crack this code, but it'd be bugging them for days! What had they stuffed in this card so long ago that they forgot what code was even used! Maybe if Frenchie took a look at it they could stop by and see...?"
...
Maybe this plan was a too complex. Maybe it was too big and detailed that it showed itself to be obvious from an outsider's point of view. They WERE trying to deal with an expert, after all. Maybe they could- No, they couldn't go back now, the damn thing was already lit and stowed away. Maybe Frenchie take one look at this obvious disaster and give Alex the necessary pity and let them get away with ONE prank, for the spirit of the day...
No matter how they reached the end result, hopefully it would work...
Hopefully
@nemorialex
As promised weeks ago in a mad frenzy of baking mistakes, a single cake shows up; whipped chocolate frosting surrounding a triple-layered vanilla cake, with what appears to be foot-long prop rocket skewered through its centre.  It’s topped with candles that look ordinary enough - but that’s exactly where the fun begins.  When any of the red candles are lit, their wicks will spark and fizzle very rapidly, setting off a rapid-burn fuse run through the cake, leading directly to the very real, fairly powerful 50mm rocket engine hidden within.  This will proceed to launch the rocket, cake and all, in a very fast and completely uncontrollable flight for about 15 seconds, before blowing the whole thing up with a sizeable, yet mostly harmless cherry bomb.
There’s a note attached, which reads ‘FYI i lit everybody else’s cakes before sending them.  given its april fools i probably shouldve lit this one too cuz the jape wouldve been fuckin choice but i also know youll make good use of it as it is.  send me a picture after the fucker blows up’

Announcing the Winners of the 2020 Tech Edvocate Awards
Every day, technology innovations transform the way people learn and how educators teach. In the last few years, the edtech field has attracted a lot of talented people, all with excellent knowledge bases and ideas. Though the edtech industry has been around for a few decades now, the last few years, in particular, have seen a surge in investment from both school districts and investors.
The education market is currently worth around $5 trillion globally, and it is forecasted that edtech investment alone will reach $300 billion by the year 2025. This growing investment in edtech start-ups has created some exciting changes in the world of education. Naturally, with increasing capital, the number of edtech companies, products, and thought leaders is also growing. In that spirit of change and innovation, we present the 4th Annual Tech Edvocate Awards.
After 4 months of hard work, we’ve narrowed down the year’s top edtech companies, products, people, and more. We solicited nominees from readers in June/July and held online voting from May 1, 2020 – July 31, 2020. The nominee’s performance during the online voting period was used to gauge their popularity, but in no way signaled that they would become a finalist or walk away with an award. The finalists and winners were ultimately selected by a panel comprised of two edtech thought leaders, two PreK-12 teachers, one college professor, two K-12 administrators, one college administrator, and two PreK-12 parents.  Here are our winners and finalists for 2020. Winners and finalists can access their award seals by clicking here.

NSA Challenge 0
I would like to say I’ll do a challenge a day and that’s perfectly reasonable. However, quite difficult nonetheless. Often times things do come up in life and get in the way of what you say or intend to do.
Take for example:
Promising that you will exercise everyday
Some days you just feel tired, bloated or lazy. Other days you may have too much work to do. Things just get in the way - and you can see this in people when they laugh at the thought of New Years’ Resolutions. However this shouldn’t stop me from making this intent in the first place. Even if things don’t pan out as much as you would hope, I think it’s perfectly fine as long as you have the heart in working towards it. That shows that you’re at least thinking about it and is the first step - so at the very least I want to try my best.
I think this will help me get the most out of this experience. By trying to do at least one a day, this attempt will at least discipline my behaviour and make me a better engineer.
Tumblr media
So to start, first I just jumped straight into it. Maybe not so wise, but I wanted to see how well I would do going in blind. I don’t think I would recommend this, as reading the rules beforehand (which I didn’t know existed) and the tips they gave would have definitely helped direct me in how I approached my first cypher. Things like using the clear button and how to enter your answer was what I figured out in the middle of solving it, instead of just reading the introductory text.
Tumblr media
So immediately looking at this the first thing I notice is the numbers 336, and the 336 above it. This number seems to be translated across so the meaning still stays the same. This highlights a clear weakness in this type of code as numbers can easily reveal the context of the plain-text message. Also at the end when you get to the answers, if you simply Google ‘336′, you could probably find the answer faster than I took to solve this code.
So, jumping off I focused my attention on QWS and made a clear assumption. There aren’t many words in the English language that are 3 letters, occur at the start of a sentence and are different letters. This is where context is a huge downfall of the language and how it helped me crack this code. Basically I first made a reasonable assumption that QWS = THE where Q = T, W = H and S = E. This gave me the first word, and some characters to play around with.
By then counting the letter frequency of the certain numbers, I could then be even more confident that I was on the right track, with s appearing 4 times in the whole message. Since I know ‘e’ is the most common character in the English language and that ‘s’ appeared in quite convenient ‘e’ locations, I was doubly sure that ‘s’ represented ‘e’.
From here I was quite unsure where to go, since the information I had so far didn’t give me much direction onto any other words. WMC could be anything, and the rest had too many possibilities to be cracked.
So from here, I made another assumption. Based on the letter frequency, ‘m’ also appeared 4 times as did ‘h’. However, the position of the m’s in the code led me to believe that it was most likely a vowel, seeing that it was mostly in the first and second position. Knowing that also, words primarily have vowels, I had some degree of confidence that this assumption was true. Going off this thought, one of the more common vowels is ‘a’. So I made the connection that M = A.
Looking again at the letter frequency, ‘h’ also appears 4 times, however it wasn’t in a position where I could justify it being a vowel. Crossing off ‘a’ and ‘e’, I would be left with i, o or u. And ‘h’ appears in a double at one point (HH), none of these substitutions seemed valid. So with my familiarity in the language, I thought it would either H could either be L or T, since these are common double letters in words.
Moving on, looking at the last word, IGEVHSC, so far I had S = E, so my currently standing was _ _ _ _ _ E _. Again, drawing on the common practices of English, I again made an assumption with some degree of confidence that C = D. Since a lot of words end in ‘ed’.
Drawing back to the code map, I couldn’t find any obvious circular relationship, which led me to believe that this was simply a substitution cipher.
Now with the information that S = E and M = A, I went to the second word MYSTMKS, which to me looked like A_E_ _A_E. This looked very promising, but I couldn’t for the life of me work out what it was. So I reasoned whether or not I wanted to use online tools to help me. I figured this was the best way to use my resources, instead of playing a guessing game with all the words and it would help me progress faster. So I looked up a simple hangman solver to assist me in finding the word.
Tumblr media
This came up with ‘average’ which gave me a whole word to now work with. Adding onto this, having the word average led me to believe there was either some statistical or sports context to this code. With adding justification to my suspicions being the RMHH which looked like ‘ball’ to me.
So going off that, I now had enough information to do a quick google search and let autocomplete do the rest, which led me to the final answer.
Tumblr media
Overall, this was a fun and entertaining challenge. I had more insight into how you can go about cracking codes and learnt a lot from this experience. It’s very different from just hearing how you can solve them to actually solving them yourself. My time wasn’t great and there were some points where I got stuck - so I think a good goal to have is to try and always improve and beat my personal best. That way I have some measure of me improving my code-cracking skills :)

BTS WINGS REVIEW
This article has been published in Daily Star: http://www.thedailystar.net/shout/pop-culture/one-k-pop-album-you-dont-want-miss-1336981
This is an edited version by the editor of SHOUT
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan/Bulletproof Boys) is one of the popular boy bands of K-Pop, consisting of 7 members – Jin, Suga, J-hope, Rap Monster, Jimin, V and Jungkook. Last October, they released their second full album called “Wings”, an album where one flies through art and history, and ride a rollercoaster of one's hidden emotions. By this album, they have achieved an “all-kill” on South Korean music charts, and numerous (emphasis on numerous) achievements internationally.
Wings contains 15 tracks, of which 7 are soulful solos of individual members, a bold Cypher track with the 3 rappers of the group, a soothing song with the 4 vocalists, the intro and interlude, and the rest being with all 7 members. The physical albums are sold in 4 versions – W, I, N and G, each having of a different photobook, but the CD is the same in all versions, and they all have one random member's photocard.
Tumblr media
This album is very different from how K-Pop is stereotyped, and also from other K-Pop albums, as its theme has been taken from the book “Demian: The Story of Emil Sinclair's Youth” by Hermann Hesse, with references from The Bible itself. The album explores more themes from the members' solo songs, consisting of things the youth can feel and relate to – guilt, self-loathe, despair, love, failure, etc. They also have songs which are positive and uplifting. Even one of them, titled “21st Century Girls”, is about girl power.
They have had 7 short films released before this album was released – a feat never seen before. The shorts successfully pull off their theme from the book, giving it a thriller movie feel which touches the peak of a curious mind. The storyline from the trailers finally reaches a debatable conclusion in the music video of the title song “Blood, Sweat & Tears”, which is beautifully set in a museum-like production design with the use of paintings and statues. The storyline is, of course, related to all these artefacts and Hesse's book. It keeps the fans in awe, turning them into mystery solvers who then share many theories on the internet of what has happened.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It should be mentioned that this story started from their previous mini albums from last year – The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Trilogy. However, there is an ongoing debate that it might have started from their first album ever. All these mind-boggling settings by the albums create theories which keep the fans in anticipation and interested on this one-of-a-kind album.
For me, Wings is a 10/10 album – one of the most unique and distinct albums in the world of K-Pop. It is enriched in art and emotion, and has done justice to the themes they have used.

as fucking insane the lore is for [og] yhs/ts, it's like - horrifying to think about in the context of the characters themselves. they're just teenagers, they're just kids.
in yandere, sam, a fucking FIVE YEAR OLD, gets tricked into killing a grown adult, was taught to steal, forced to items without knowledge of what they are (ingredients for wine for jane, fish king freddy's fin for vonheimer, teargas for rowan) gets a bomb threat at his HOUSE, and gets chased off by SWAT MEMBERS. REMINDER. HE'S FIVE.
also with the asylum theory - it's totally plausible to think that sam was at least put into it inbetween the ages of 5-15. so its like even more Crazy ? that theyre just doing this to a CHILD.
HEY ALSO - THINK ABOUT TAURTIS FOR A MOMENT. he's been friends with sam for ~10 years basically growing up so he'd be continuously dragged into whatever sam does right? briefly talked about his ~purpose to sam in my other post but like taurtis alone is like . suffered more than jesus. guys - he's never been his own person really in the entire series even before / after death (clones + alt. dimension) and he's also been disrespected A LOT.
one thing i never see get talked about more is that taurtis gets sexually harrassed? there is an entire episode dedicated to taurtis 2 getting harrassed by two grown adults (dr. nurse + old man kurokuma) for an ENTIRE CLASS - IN FRONT OF THEM.
[TAURTIS is running away from KUROKUMA]
DR. NURSE: Stand still, boy.
SAM: Just stand still for the lesson!
TAURTIS: No! What is the lesson?!
TAURTIS: Is it to stop sexual harrasment?!
SAM: What is this demonstrating? SAM: Is this demonstrating um... to protect yourself from creeps? DR. NURSE: Yup SAM: Oh- oh okay, so- so explain how- this helps- Taurtis protect himself from creepy people. TAURTIS: I don't feel very protected, SAM: Well he's going to explain how to protect yourself from creepy people! DR. NURSE:

also by prof. geode the class after,
[GEODE forces him to sit in the special chair, then proceeds to sniff intensely]
TAURTIS: I've been harassed by three different people today.
and this behavior isn't even new? i'm surprised people look over geode's clear disgusting romantic interest in taurtis when discussing about them
Tumblr media
i know he's referred as the clones' dad, because he did create them, but it's a little bit - weird? that people actually see (headcanon) geode as taurtis' actual father? idk lol
my random tangent ? WRONG. TAURTIS POSTING.

narrative timeline wise the asylum theory looks promisable as fuck...
if yandere's abrupt ending (ep 17), where sam gets chased away by rowan and threats of SWAT (around the end, rowan yells out to SWAT members to get him) and yhs' beginning where sam is somehow softer/weaker/a crybaby compared to how he is in yandere (similar to current him*) where he's erratic/violent/more eager to crimes, get taken into consideration ... there's an interesting confusing take of What Happened? for sam's personality to switch that easily
*NOTE: IM AWARE THAT YAN. WAS MADE DURING/AROUND THE END OF TS, SO IT IS EASIER TO JUST KEEP PLAYING THE SAME CHARACTERIZATION BUT LIKE? YOU ARE AWARE THIS IS A PREQUEL. SO WHY —
i just think that its like ... interesting. literally what the fuck happened to the anger issued violent kid when presented with a scared crybaby ten years later? dude what Happened to sam? scary.
