First time attempt at a drabble, lol

Blake was staring again. There was a big smile on his face that he couldn't hide, and Loki was doing nothing of note.

Loki was merely leaning against the windowsill, looking down at something going on in the New York streets below, and Blake stared like Loki hung the stars in the sky.

"I love you so damn much." Blake finally said, making Loki turn to see him. A smile appeared on Loki's face, which made Blake's heart melt a little.

"I love you, too, my darling." Loki replied, walking over to join Blake on their shared hotel room bed.

For his master’s thesis in anthropology for the University of Chicago he had an idea about the structure of stories. The basic idea was that a story’s main character has ups and downs that can be graphed to reveal the stories. He said once in an interview that the thesis “was rejected because it was so simple and looked like too much fun.” I came across this while doing research for my BA thesis and thought this was interesting. It’s a different take on the structure of stories. Thea Guanzon has truly outdone herself!! I have been a fan of hers since she first started on AO3, so I was SO excited when she announced her first book. THW is every bit Reylo mixed with Filipino culture/setting and enemies to lovers that Thea is so great at writing!! It does take about 5-7 chapters to get the world building out of the way, but it’s worth it to dive into Talasyn & Alaric’s story. The banter, sexual tension, and Filipino influence are my favorite parts (plus every reference to Alaric looking like Adam Driver🤤). The Hurricane Wars is out now, so run to your bookstore and get it!

This book is accurately described as Gossip Girl meets Get Out. With dark academia vibes this mystery/thriller dives deep into issues like high school drama, homophobia, racism, and more! Popular girl Chiamaka has nothing in common with musical prodigy Devon but when a masked bully starts attacking them both…they must find out what it takes to bring down a hidden nemesis!

How do I put into words what this book means to me and how it had impacted me?!😩 I’ll try! The writing in this book is incredible. Chiamaka and Devon are so complex, with flaws but also the capacity to grow which they do by the end of the book! And the THEMES!!!!! I want to have an in depth discussion with Faridah (or a book club lol) about all the subtle/not subtle themes throughout the book—like the LITERAL SPADES!

*spades are so poignant in Black culture!*

I could go on but I won’t spoil anything! Addressing issues like systemic racism, homophobia, etc. is very tough and uncomfortable for people to talk about, but in this book it is digestible in a way where you can see how it affects these two main characters so radically. I strongly encourage everyone to read this book!

*also I got this beautiful Revolution Card Deck that I thought was so fitting for this book! It features different prominent Black leaders throughout the deck🤍*
