I love this idea @the-woomyverse, and these tags @sparkmasters !

I've said this before, but Beep-0 pretty much never gets karmic comeuppance for his flaws: hubris, overconfidence, making (often false) assumptions about everything. He is, in the end, usually able to get away with claiming he knew the truth all along, even if he totally didn't- surely most of the team can see right through him, but still.

I do believe he is the perfect target for unwilling corruption in some way or another.

I'm reminded of Super Paper Mario yet again; you have a companion in that game (Tippi) who can tell you things about other characters and the world, and find hidden doors and such. But there are parts of the game where you don't have her for story reasons, and you just don't have these abilities. This would be the case here with the heroes having to go into battles without the Tacticam, and not have access to anything else Beep-0 does. I imagine Jeanie rapidly trying to program herself to perform similar functions while under the immense duress of coping with her creator's current state. More logical and efficient she may be, but she has learned more than enough emotions by this point to be impacted.

Okay, totally random thought.

The Sparks of Despair AU…

But Beep-0 gets corrupted by Darkmess.

Probably some time after Jeanie is freed, the gang visits the Space Opera Network studio, and frees Phantom from his Darkmess corruption (and rescues Midnite too.) Phantom is genuinely remorseful for what happened, but Beep-0 refuses to hear him out. (Relatively speaking, since Phantom returned to his voiceless state upon being freed.) It only gets worse when everyone else decides that Midnite can tag along to help restore hope to the galaxy, while Beep-0 is, at best, extremely hesitant to acknowledge her.

Things reach a tipping point when Midnite reveals that Edge was a former Spark Hunter too. Beep-0 blows his circuits, and due to his rage, doesn’t notice the nearby Darkmess reaching out a tentacle towards him…

And now, they have to fight the very one who helped them start their journey way back in Kingdom Battle.
