Headcanons of how Cabins decorating a Sleepy Hypnos child's hair
Personally I believe that each Hypnos child has soft curly hair which makes it easy for other campers from other Cabins to decorate their hair out of boredom and it slowly becomes a competition between the cabins on which cabin does it the most and which style is their favorite, etc. and here's how each cabin can tell ~this was inspired by some IG reels and a post by @/clovis-enthusiast
**Side Note: I would say some staff of CHB join in to represent some gods to avoid any potential conflicts**
Cabin 1 -Zeus: gold metallic lighting bolts
Cabin 2- Hera: peacock feathers (I like to think Argus decided to represent her cabin and protect Hera's honor in a way)
Cabin 3- Poseidon: little orange starfishes (like the ones in the Aquamarine movie-2006) and seashells
Cabin 4- Demeter: wheat and flowers (they negotiated with the Aphrodite Cabin on which flowers- the ones that represent/symbolizes any type of love or have heart shapes-i.e. heart shaped forget me not flowers are only for the cabin 10 and ofc both cabins have a list of which type their cabins can use)
Cabin 5- Ares: plastic sword toothpicks and mini metal spike balls (which the cabin later had to change them to those spiky porcupine balls for safety because Chiron said so)
Cabin 6- Athena: owl feathers, olive branch crown, maybe ripped up papers with favorite quotes from books
Cabin 7- Apollo: guitar string flowers, ripped up papers with poems/ music lyrics, music note paper clips
Cabin 8- Artemis: silver little stars (they only participate when they visit CHB)
Cabin 9- Hephaestus: nuts and bolts, flowers made out of wires
Cabin 10- Aphrodite: butterfly/flower hair clips, bow hair clips, hearts, and flowers and honestly anything that the cabin sees that's fit and pretty (the cabin was also asked to tone it down just so to keep it fun for all cabins and ofc it's no surprise that this cabin goes all out)
Cabin 11- Hermes: wind-up chatter teeth toys or those fake insects
Cabin 12- Dionysus: grapevine floral crown with little grapes
Cabin 13- Hades: tiny skeleton heads
Cabin 14-Iris: little rainbow hair clips or anything rainbow related
Cabin 15- Hypnos: probably leftover pillow feathers if they're awake long enough
Cabin 16- Nemesis: mini balance scales (the Hephaestus cabin def helped make them just to ensure safety)
Cabin 17- Nike: laurel's leaves (Apollo cabin was nice to give this one up-also yes I did look up some symbols to represent each god/goddess)
Cabin 18- Hebe: tiny clay cups/mugs of any style
Cabin 19- Tyche: mini four leave clovers/ horseshoes (as she is the goddess of fortune, luck, and prosperity)
Cabin 20- Hecate: battery operated flashlights in shapes of torches

— I THINK I LOVED YOU IN ANOTHER LIFE .
( WHERE I WAS THE SEA, & YOU WERE THE SHORE . ) ; general fluffy romantic headcanons for rafayel / qi yu from love and deepspace <3
CW: not beta read, general rafayel story/lore spoilers, may be slightly ooc, tooth-rotting fluff, very slight angst !!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
— RAFAYEL is a terribly sweet, loyal, and affectionate lover. sometimes, you think he is something like a lovesick puppy—always ready to greet you at the door with a warm hug when you return from a mission, always eagerly awaiting your phone calls and texts. always at your side. when he calls you darling and holds you close, burrows his head into the crook of your neck, you can't help but feel like your being has been warmed by a pleasant summer sunbeam.
despite this, sometimes he feels like he's drifting somewhere far away from you. a receeding ocean tide, sea foam dissolving from your fingertips as you dip your hands in the waves. he's somewhere you don't understand, when he looks into your eyes and searches for an iteration of you in the reflected image of his own eyes—perhaps he is 800 years away, a lifetime and more. and yet, when you gingerly cup his face in your palms, feel him lean into your touch, you know he returns to you.
— RAFAYEL'S art studio is admittedly, a mess. there are days where you'll enter that room spotless and leave with splatters of some new shade of red and his beloved blues all over your clothes and skin. some days, this happens purely on accident—a trip right into a canvas here, a palm pressed onto wet paint there—and on others, rafayel seems to delight in using you as a canvas.
— when RAFAYEL kisses you (in that gentle fashion, where he cups your cheek like if he doesn't you'll slip like seafoam from his hold), those soft lips of his taste of cherries and grapes and strawberries. and perhaps that best encapsulates what loving rafayel is like, this sweetest red, red, red: the way his cheeks and ears flush when you press a kiss to his cheek; the colour of his eyes when the morning's rose-gold sunlight hits the pink in them just right; the bleeding, beating heart he offers to your awaiting hands. eventually, he pulls away to let the both of you breathe, and when he presses his forehead against yours, glances at you with that charming smile of his, you're enveloped in warm crimson all over again.
"there." rafayel smiles, leans back to admire the flamulla he'd painted on your cheek and the pout that graces your lips. "a cute flamulla for the cutie that keeps distracting me."
"you weren't even painting anything when i came in!" you scoff, dabbing the paintbrush he'd given you into the paint upon the palette. while he painted moon jellies, flamulla, and blowfish on your skin, you'd busied yourself with painting seashells on his. some of the clamshells are too close together, the venus combs look a little too spiky, and some conches don't look quite right. when he looks like he's about to chuckle at the sight of them, you poke him with the other end of your brush; "hmph. you're just a meanie."
"how rude!" he feigns, hand to his heart. "this is how you treat me for making you look like one of my most precious paintings?"
— you notice, eventually, that RAFAYEL always gifts you red jewelry (if not pearls, of course). the little treasures glint in the sunlight; rings with a ruby or red spinel centerpiece, a necklace with a red coral pendant, fire opal earrings... they're beautiful and never gaudy, as to be expected from a man with an eye for aesthetics, but it still perplexes you.
you ask him why, while he helps you put on his most recently gifted necklace as you two get ready to attend his aunt's opera show. your painter answers with a thoughtful hum, deft fingers clasping the necklace for you: "red disappears the fastest in the deep sea, so i never got to see it much." rafayel presses a kiss to your cheek, then, before settling his chin on the crook of your neck. "what better way to appreciate a colour i missed out on for so long than seeing it on you, darling?"
— RAFAYEL'S smug and haughty countenance seems to crumble at the mere press of your lips against his skin, little pecks gracing each beauty mark. the first kiss is placed on his cheek, a little ways away from his eye, his head cradled in your palms; you feel how he heats up beneath your touch, a light blush dusting across his cheeks and a bright vermillion burning at the tips of his ears. the second is placed on his chest, your lips and gentle, roaming hands sparking the rapid thrumming of his heart.
Tumblr media
— RAFAYEL sees you in everything. in the morning sunlight that filters into his kitchen, in the cherry blossoms that land on his hair, in the sea breeze that rushes past him as he walks along the shore. the mundane of daily life has become filled with so many traces of you that he cannot see them as anything other than beautiful. there's a piece of you in every one of his paintings now, a streak of your favourite colour intertwined with his reds and blues. he made the pigment himself, of course, extracted the colours he needed from your favourite things.
THE LOVERS ; Rafayel (20XX) ; Oil on canvas
This painting consists of only two colours, and depicts the view of a simple shoreline, with waves lapping at the shore. Although simple in essence, the two paints were handmade (as is the norm for pieces by Rafayel) with pigments extracted from materials that represented himself and his beloved. Upon closer inspection, one may notice the difference in brushstrokes between colours—where they start to blend, so do the strokes, perhaps one hand guiding the other. As per the words of the painter himself, this artwork is meant to represent a "marriage and a transfiguration; the way two souls are forever intertwined and changed by love."
a/n : pretty privilege is real because rafayel acts a lot like marius but i like him infinitely more than i do lu jinghe 😭👍 my love/obsession for this pretty little fish has made me rise from the grave of uni work and writer's block... please fill his tag i need to satisfy this itch in my brain that he gives me <\3 might write some more for him + him as abysswalker <3 (p.s. that final hc is perhaps the cutest thing i thought to do)

DAMN I went to this rotating exhibit about armor and there was this really cool helmet that was based off of those spiky seashells from the tail end of the Sengoku era, which was notable for its fashion statement helmets. Iirc they didn't know who it belonged to, but it was listed towards the very end like ah, the guy probably never even got a chance to 'prove himself'. I saw this what, a year ago? And I keep meaning to show you all but keep forgetting. I'll have to look through my photos to find it.

MiracOlympus- Kim
Make way for the king of the seas, because Kim has arrived! @imsparky2002 @artzychic27
Kim, God and King of the Oceans (aka Poseidon)
Appearance/Attire: Spiky Dark Brown hair with the tips bleached pale green by sea water, tanned skin with patches of blue-green scales, black eel tattoos all down arms (think Young Justice Aqualad), almond-shaped grey eyes with flecks of bright blue and green, gills on neck, bright blue fins on arms and legs, tall and muscular build. Gold three pronged crown encrusted with coral stones, blue-green exomis-style tunic, gold belt with seashell buckle, wide gold bands on wrists, black sandals. Always carries his huge bronze trident (when he hasn’t misplaced it).
Bio: Kim may have been born the middle child of his parents’ three sons, but you would be hard-pressed to overlook the boisterous god of the seas! With his endless supply of energy and booming voice, Kim’s presence is felt no matter where he goes! He has a bit of an ego, and loves challenging his fellow gods (especially Alix) for fun and is always down for any athletic activity, especially swimming. While usually a pretty friendly guy, Kim does have a ruthless side, with one of the more infamous tempers amongst the gods, known to unleash fearsome ocean storms when something displeases him, though it usually doesn’t take long for his beloved queen, Ondine, to calm him down and still the waves. Fiercely protective of both his younger brother Adrien and his older brother Nathaniel, as well as all the creatures of the sea, Kim is definitely a god whose bad side you don’t want to end up on! But for all his pride, he has a good sense of humor and can laugh at himself when needed. If only he could just stop losing his trident!
Fun Facts!
For all his confidence, Kim is actually extremely awkward when he likes someone! He was immediately smitten with Ondine the moment he saw her, but couldn’t work up the nerve to even speak to her for months! Finally, one of his closest friends, a clever dolphin named Xuppu, had enough of this and approached Ondine about the sea god’s crush on her. She ended up asking him out and the rest is history.
Would you believe that the creation of the horse was actually the result of a bet between friends? Kim, usually one to create sea creatures, couldn’t turn down the challenge issued by Max and Mylene that he couldn’t make a land animal that would be beneficial to mankind. It took him a few tries, the first results being the animals we now know as the giraffe and the camel, but eventually he got it right, and humans were introduced to horses. That’s why they’re sacred to the sea god.
As mentioned, Kim is very protective of his loved ones. So when a mortal queen named Cassiopeia dared to say that her own beauty surpassed that of all the Nereids of the ocean, he wasn’t about to let such an insult towards his queen (or her sisters) go unanswered, and the kingdom’s shoreline was plagued by a fearsome sea monster, Cetus, until the mortal queen apologized for her foolish words.
He’s the king of the wa-a-a-aves! Leave your thoughts in the comments and reblogs!

✧ STORY UPDATE ✧ underwater chrysalis - ch 88
Seto leaned back into the seat and folded his arms and nodded stiffly to show that he was listening. Not.
The teacher placed a piece of paper on the desk and turned it around so he could read it.
It was a worksheet for ‘My Future Dreams’.
Adina had written her answers neatly in the center of the boxes, even decorating the corners of the answer box with doodles of stars, seashells, and starfish. “ 彡☆ My future dream is to become a good and patient queen. I will follow Father’s good example as a leader and listen to my Daddy’s advice about managing businesses, making everyone, mainly Grandpa, Auntie Mai, Auntie Anzu, and Warrior Mahad proud of me. Noah too, I guess. 彡☆ ”
“Aw,” Seto gushed, picking up the paper and feeling his face heat up. This was so cute. He needed to frame this forever.
“This is not cute …anymore, sir,” the teacher said nervously, lacing her hands together atop her desk, her frown deepening “We ask the children to make realistic goals. Her writing about ‘ being queen’ is alarming. She likes to play pretend and has an obvious fascination with mermaids.”
“How is that a problem?” Seto asked testily as he kept his grip on the paper. “The goal she’s written here sounds wholesome and attainable. I’m keeping this.” To show Atem, because this was fucking cute. And then maybe rub it in Solomon’s face too, as an extra ‘fuck you’.
“I will need that back,” the teacher replied with her eyebrows raised in alarm. “Sir…”
Someone knocked on the door, and it was slid aside with a loud clack!
Atem stood breathlessly in the entryway, leaning on the doorframe while another teacher stood nervously beside him, stammering, “t-this is Adina’s father, here for a parent meeting?”
Seto’s mouth dropped open, and Atem gave him a fiery look that clearly said, ‘how dare you leave me out of this’, and Seto closed his jaw with a click.
“There must be a mistake, because this is Adina’s father,” the teacher said pointedly, gesturing at the blond man sitting before her, secretly stunned by the appearance of another foreigner, and this one had wild, spiky hair…almost like a starfish… READ ME on AO3

Tillandsia, AKA air plants, are so much fun. They are completely unique to the plant world, requiring no soil to survive. But, they do require a different water routine in order to thrive. Follow these steps to water air plants the right way and keep them hydrated and happy all year long. For even the most experienced gardeners and houseplant enthusiasts, air plants can remain an enigma. What do you mean they don’t require any soil!? By far the biggest question new air plant owners have is how the heck do you water a plant that doesn’t have any soil. While many people will recommend misting your air plant, I have a different method that will give your air plant the hydration it really needs. A bath! This post will cover… Tillandsia variety: Snowball What’s in a Name? Tillandsia gets their more common name, air plant, because they grow without soil in the air. One of the most common misconceptions about Tillandsia comes from their name and the idea that they only need air to survive. However, it really means that they need to absorb moisture through their leaves consistently. This either comes from very high humidity (as in a greenhouse) or from regular soaking. Their spiky tendrils are oh-so-cool looking, and because they don’t need soil to survive, there are endless creative ways to display them, from terrariums to popping them inside seashells. You can even make them into jewelry! They are hardy and easy to care for if you know what to do, and the most common problems that people have with air plants are due to incorrect watering. When Tillandsia grow in the wild, they absorb moisture from the air, which is much more humid than it is indoors, and that is usually where we keep them, so we have to soak them to rehydrate. But it must be done properly or the air plant will rot! How to Water Air Plants Water your air plants in the morning to ensure they get enough time to fully dry, or it may disrupt their ability to respire at night. To water air plants, remove them from wherever you have them displayed and submerge them in a bowl or sink full of enough water to completely cover them. Parts of the plants will float up above the water—this is okay. Just make sure that the majority of each air plant is submerged in the water. Leave them in the bath for one hour. Remove each plant, hold it facing upside down, and shake well to get rid of any excess water pooling at the base of the inner leaves. Then, turn your air plant upside down on a towel and place it in a bright spot. Let it sit for one to three hours, depending on when it is fully dry. Ensure there is no water pooled or else your air plant may rot. Return your air plants to their regular spot until it is time to bathe them again. Soak your air plants for an hour before removing them to completely dry out. Use the Right Water Don’t use chlorinated water for your air plants, as it can harm them. Instead, use rainwater or filtered water if possible. If you want to use tap water, allow it to sit out in a bowl for 24 hours first so that the chlorine evaporates. Chlorine can turn the tips of the leaves brown. Change Your Watering Schedule Seasonally Depending on the season, air plants need to be bathed at different frequencies. In the summer, when it is hot, they like to be bathed once a week, but in the cool winter months, once every three weeks or so will do. Pay attention to the changing of the seasons and the health of your air plant and water accordingly. You will also want to note the location of your air plant. For example, how much light is your plant receiving? If it’s getting lots of sun, it may need to be watered more often. Is your plant located next to a heater where it may dry out more quickly, or do you live somewhere humid where it will require less water? Take the time to evaluate the surroundings of your air plant when thinking about a watering schedule. More heat = more frequent waterings. Should I Mist My Air Plants? Many garden centers or plant stores will tell you to mist your air plant with water from a misting bottle a few times a week. Personally, I do not find this to be very helpful for the plant. Spritzing is just too inconsistent and doesn’t provide the air plant with enough moisture. Misting should not be the only method you use for watering your air plant. That being said, greenhouses and garden centers just mist them because it is already humid inside a greenhouse. And if you live in a humid climate (or a greenhouse) you can also get away with spritzing them. For air plants adopted as houseplants for the rest of us, the key is soaking them in a bath. If your air plant is stuck in a terrarium or glued somewhere and it cannot be removed, misting may be your only option. If this is the case, mist very often to ensure it gets as much water as possible without letting water sit in the base. However, I highly discourage placing air plants anywhere where they cannot be removed and bathed! Don’t rely just on misting to water air plants. Signs of an Unhappy Air Plant If your air plant is showing signs of distress, it could be due to watering. Crispy tips that are turning brown could be a sign of under-watering. You will also notice that the air plant’s concave shape is more noticeable when water is lacking. Signs of over-watering, however, are tricky to undo. If the air plant is rapidly losing leaves and the base has turned black or brown, the air plant has gone rotten. Resist watering and cross your fingers! View my guide on how to revive a sick air plant for more information. Brown tips can indicate your plant isn’t getting enough water. FAQ About Watering Air Plants My leaves become soggy after I water my air plants. What am I doing wrong? While soaking the air plants is the proper way to water, the most important part of the process is actually drying them. You want to water them in the morning, so you have all day to let them dry.Shake off as much water as possible after watering. Then, tip them upside down and place them in a bright and sunny spot until they’re fully dry. I repeat, fully dry. One commenter advised laying it on a screen so the water can drip out underneath. How can I tell if my air plant is dead? If it is dead, all the leaves will fall off, or it will turn brown and crunchy. Can I glue my air plant to display it? Avoid buying glued air plants. The glue is safe for air plants and won’t kill them, but it is certainly not the best option if you want to have long-living, healthy plants. I have purchased some gorgeous displays with air plants glued onto them, but I can never water them properly. It’s best to display them so they can be removed to be watered, such as this wire display or this living air plant wreath. More Posts About Air Plants: Source link

When Xander was little, about five or six-years-old, he had this fascination for the ocean and to go along with it, an odd obsession with sea urchins of all things. He was rather insistent on seeing one at the beach after several private visits to different aquariums with behind-the-scenes tours proved fatal to satisfying his curiosity. One summer, the Hawthorne family was on vacation touring the Adriatic-Mediterranean region on their yacht and every so often, they'd dock at a new marina to enjoy a day on the mainland and explore.
On a day at the beach, the boys were building sandcastles;  Xander and Nash casually worked on one together while Jamie and Gray were having a sandcastle building contest (because, of course) and Xan went looking for shells. He wandered into the shallows and spotted a strange black spiky thing in the water which turned out to be an urchin but an injured sea urchin. An exhilarated science nerd freakout sesh and one nearly induced heart attack later, Nash found his youngest brother excitedly jumping up and down before pointing at a black spiked ball in the water (Nash was extremely thankful his brother had enough common sense to not pick it up although that was still a very real possibility). Xander followed up by explaining what it was and how he knew it was injured so his older brother suggested that they call a rescue to admit it. But, Xan really wanted to take care of it himself and after a bit of back and forth, the next day, on the yacht, they had a saltwater tank set up with everything that a sea urchin would possibly need and also a professional caretaker for it. The boys were still instructed how to care for it but Xander seemed to know a good bunch already and eagerly named the urchin Sea Steve.
Every day, Xander would wake up early to check on it (which turned out to be a male) and just watch the urchin in the tank, looking at it in awe. He was very interactive and loved doing everything he could to make Sea Steve feel better. However, being the child he was, he also did things to make him feel better by putting a bandage on the glass, listened to his "heart", brought him colorful rocks found on the beach and seashells, sang him his favorite song and recited his beloved nursery rhyme, read him stories before bedtime and always checked on him at night when he needed water. Of course, this was all very endearing for Nash to watch but eventually, Sea Steve healed and the time came for him to be released. Xander wasn't pleased and was very upset at the prospect of having to let him go and pleading to keep him didn't help so to keep the peace, Nash got him a toy urchin that was around the same size as Sea Steve. That gave Xander a brilliant idea; the day that Sea Steve was to be put back in the sea, the young boy was unusually calm but still acted somewhat affected to not be too suspicious. He had switched in his toy for the real urchin in the little transport tank the night before and returned Sea Steve to the tank. Nash is still oblivious to this fact to this day and everyone thought when they saw an "urchin" in the aquarium that it was just the toy because Xander had a hard time letting go. The charade went on for a long time, mostly because the old man still knew it was the urchin but he looked the other way.
When they got home from vacation, a much bigger tank was installed in Xander's room for supposedly another sea urchin that would be ordered from someone who actually kept and sold them with no one being the wiser that it was still intended for Sea Steve. The truth was never found out and when Xander still called the "new" urchin Sea Steve, they presumed it was named after the original which was still very much with them. Ever since, Xander and his sea urchin have lived in blissful ignorance of the others.
One of Xander's favorite games was playing pirates and every time, he declared himself captain and Sea Steve was first mate except for the times he played with Jamie which usually ended in a bickering of sorts for who got captain or first mate. In most cases, they settled the matter by being enemy captains on the search for treasure which there almost always was, courtesy of their grandfather, and of course, the sea urchin was always on Xan's team.
Nowadays, the sea urchin is still found safely tucked away in a tank in Xander’s lab with a new tank mate or two of his own species. He is still the youngest Hawthorne’s favorite pet and lab companion.

Tumblr media
Roles explanation: Mediators - Mediators are cats who manage day-to-day social scenarios throughout the clans. I.e, arguments, break ups, negotiating with other clans/rogues/kittypets etc. They're also responsible for grave-keeping duties. Such as cemetery caretaking, burying the dead, consoling cats who are grieving, and proving emotional support to cats going through a hard time. They often serve as a middleman between the council and the warriors. Mediators have the same territory rights that medicine cats do- they are allowed to traverse the forest regardless of borders.
Clerics - Cleric is another term for medicine cat. "Medicine cat" is considered a colloquialism. Cleric is the more official term.
Caretakers - Essentially perm. queens. They give new parents information about kit-care, provide babysitting duties, foster, organize den repairs, perform midwife duties, etc.
Queens - Cats who are caring for or currently nursing kits- term is used regardless of gender (I.e, there are no "kings"). May also used to refer to an older cat who has had many litters.
Retired - Cats who no longer perform any work- or who are not required to perform any duties (although they may choose to participate on their own). I.e, cats who are born with a disability that prevents them from working, or cats who become disabled and can no longer perform their duties. This rank is different from elders, which specifically refers to cats who have retired from old age.
Council - "The council" is a categorical term used to refer to the higher ranks of the clan. Meaning the leader, deputy, clerics, and mediators. Caretakers may be considered a "higher rank" by certain cats, but their work is largely underappreciated. Warriors, apprentices, and caretakers are regarded as the lower/standard ranks of the clan- less coveted.
Warriors make up the largest body of the clan. Their are colloquial titles for certain groups of warriors based on what duties they are best at/typically perform (hunter, builder, patrolcat, etc). But these aren't considered official roles in the same way the terms listed above are.

Selfshiptober Day 8: swim / terror
Phoenix has a bad dream.
TW: Nightmare, feelings of loneliness and being trapped, low-key depression(?), not being able to see under water, and drowning. (Not literally. Just the feeling of it.)
Tumblr media
Divider from @strangergraphics
Tumblr media
"Phoenix, what about this one?" Thimble called out.
They were at a beach looking for seashells. The moment a bit extravagant, being how they were only here to gather seashells for a project Phoenix was planning. Or so they thought.... Phoenix couldn't seem to remember anything before this moment. Other than the fact that Aza was at his job as a hand and leg model.
Maybe that's another reason why they and Thimble were here? The couple didn't seem to have much time with just the 2 of them lately...
Phoenix snapped out of their thoughts, and looked towards Thimble. She was holding up a small shell. A bit too small to see from their current distance.
Phoenix stepped out of the shallow water that they were previously wading in, and walked over to the dry sand towards Thimble. Finally seeing the full shape of the shell.
It was in a spiral shape almost like a horn, and was pure white except for a few black specks near the top.
"It's perfect." They grinned at their partner, before gently taking it and placing it into the pocket of their shorts. "thank you" They gave a kiss on the top of Thimble's head as they expressed their appreciation.
If they kept their head there a bit longer though, it would have been pummeled as Thimble turned around and jumped not even a second later, pointing down towards a sand dollar a few steps away.
"What about this?!"
Phoenix turned to look, and gasped as they suddenly had an idea. "Oh! That reminds me."
They walked over to it. The sand dollar white, signifying that it's been dried up for quite a while.
The young bard picked it up, slowly turning it around in their hands as they made their way back to their partner.
Motioning for him to sit down, the couple sat across from each other in the warm sand, as Phoenix reached over so that they held the sand dollar between them.
"This is something I learned a long time ago as a kid. See, you have to get a sand dollar like this, and-" with a sudden 'SNAP!' the sand dollar was broken in half. Almost a perfect straight break right down the middle.
"-Once you break it like this, you'll have two pieces." They continued, "And sometimes, you can find something special inside. Here, give me your hands."
Thimble hesitated for a second. Making sure to soak in what Phoenix told them, before doing as it was told. Both hands cupped towards its partner.
Phoenix looked at Thimble with another grin, and slowly began to tilt the 2 halves towards their partner's hands. The opened ends suddenly dumping out broken bits of shell and something a bit different.
"What are those?" Thimble asked, looking at the spiky looking bits in their hands.
Phoenix picked one up, gently holding it between 2 fingers.
"I recently read somewhere that these are the teeth of a sand dollar. But when I was younger, I was told they're doves because they kind of look like birds sometimes." They blushed lightly, a bit embarrassed by the thought.
"I was told that keeping them could give you peace, but for some reason I always thought they'd bring me luck, because I felt lucky whenever I found some . I-" They paused for a minute, looking away from Thimble as they cupped a fist to their mouth. Seeming a bit embarrassed as they chose how to say their next words.
"I thought.... I thought that maybe if we could find some of those "doves" in that sand dollar, that maybe you could keep some, and I could give some to Aza later. So you could both think of me when you see them and remember how lucky you make me feel. I-"
They were caught off guard by a sudden cold feeling on their body. Looking down, Phoenix realized that their whole bottom half was.... Wet?
"W-What's this?" Their words seeming to come out with a struggle, their confusion making it hard to think of the right words to say.
Suddenly another cold feeling. This time leaving their top half except for their head, soaking wet. The faint scent of salt water overcoming their senses.
They looked up, and gasped. Thimble was gone. Nothing showing that he was there, except for the bits of the sand dollar sitting where they had previously sat.
Once more a cold feeling hit them, the bard blinking hard as their vision suddenly became a blur.
Their breath escaping them, they looked around. Nothing but water could be seen. A few fish darting around.
Phoenix mumbled in shock and confusion, trying to gasp in a breath, only to choke as water poured within their mouth. A few air bubbles escaping them.
They looked down. Nothing but darkness below them. Phoenix tried to swim away from it, up towards the top where the air and safety was, but the darkness seemed to creep closer. As if it had a mind of its own. They tried to swim faster, but that only made the darkness creep up to them even faster.
This all happened within a few seconds, (Though if you were to ask Phoenix, they'd tell you it was much longer.), before the darkness completely swallowed them.
Tumblr media
Phoenix blinked rapidly. Were they.... Awake?
They tried to look around, but there was nothing but darkness.
Where were they? Where was Thimble? Where was the beach? How did they get here?
Dozens of questions danced within their mind. More would have surely came, if it wasn't for Phoenix having had suddenly realized that they were holding their breath.
They took a big gasp, choking a bit as they expected more water to come in, only to find that they could breathe perfectly fine.
Which.... Shouldn't be possible, should it? They could swear they were still under water... The feeling of them floating and their legs and arms moving in the way ones arms and legs usually would when you're trying to tread water.
This was all too strange. None of it made sense. It scared Phoenix. And soon, that fear brought on new questions.
"Would they ever make it home?" "Would they see their partners again?" "Will they be alone forever?"
The questions kept coming. More more MORE.
Until, finally, they all stopped. Phoenix could no longer think of anything. Nothing, but the feelings that soon overtook them.
Fear, loneliness, sadness, guilt, embarrassment... All that and more, growing until it seemed to consume them.
Phoenix curled up in a tight ball. This was it, wasn't it?
No more Aza. No more Thimble. No more love and happiness. No more cozy nights cuddled beside them under a blanket. No more sharing meals and going on dates. No more.... Anything with them.
There was so much they wanted to do with them. So much more the 3 of them still hadn't experienced together.
Phoenix's eyes began to fill with tears. This wasn't fair. They.... They didn't even get to tell their partners that they loved them one more time...
Phoenix cried.
Tumblr media
Seemingly out of nowhere, Phoenix woke up to find themselves at home.
Wait..... At HOME? But the beach. The ocean. The dark water. What WAS all of that?
They could barely make out the silhouette of one of their partners. Whoever it was, they were on the edge of the bed, seemingly holding something cool up to Phoenix's forehead.
But where was the other one? Someone was missing.
Blinking rapidly, Phoenix could finally make out Thimble. Their fear lessening, but not fully.
"It was just another fever dream. You're ok." Thimble reassured them.
Phoenix nodded slightly, their head hitting the pillows behind them as they laid their head back down. A small tear, barely noticeable, running down their cheek in relief as they continued to come to terms with reality.
They were sure they'll tell their partners about this dream later today. But for now, they wanted to surround themself with the comfort and love their partners would end up giving them.
Tumblr media
(NOTE #1: This is about the dream that was briefly mentioned in the last story. If you haven't read it yet and want to know what happens to Phoenix, I highly suggest you read my Day 7 selfshiptober fic. BUT you won't miss anything if you don't read it. I tried to write both stories in a way where you could choose to read only 1, or both of them, without missing out on any important character info/any other important details.)
(NOTE #2: Phoenix mentioned "doves" earlier in the story. If you're wondering what they were talking about, please feel free to check out this link for more info: http://www.seasideaquarium.com/sandDollars_page2.php#:~:text=Each%20tooth%20closely%20resembles%20the%20shape%20of,found%20worldwide%20and%20there%20are%20many%20different

Clan Culture: Manes
The Clan cats are physically distinguished from outsiders by their anime hair-like manes. They dye and groom them in styles, each clan having their own preferences. The cats consider this to be a part of their culture, with a cat's mane signifying rank and Clan.
Medicine cats have longer manes, which they decorate with herbs and feathers, both for use and to honor their connection with StarClan.
There are particular styles, dyes, and decorations reserved for leaders or particular ceremonies.
Mentors do their apprentice's manes for their warrior ceremony as representing their relationship, and how they will fulfill their mentor's pawsteps to serve their Clan.
The leaders wear elaborate manes for ceremonies, dyed with their Clan's colors.
ThunderClan: More spiky manes, yellow or orange dyes
ShadowClan: Sleek manes, green or black dyes
WindClan: Shorter manes, or braids, white dyes to mimic the stars
RiverClan: Similar to WindClan, red dyes, seashells or reeds in their manes
The cats are very proud of their manes, and consider the lack of them on outsiders as a symbol of their lack of class.

Chapter 6-7
Tumblr media
Haruka: You're picking...seashells?
Natsumi: Y-yeah! Fuyu-chan's my best friend, and I thought I knew her better than anyone...but it's only now I realise how little I've seen her upset in front of me.
Natsumi: Or rather, that she's probably been hiding any of her unhappiness from me all this while, from all of my antics, bottling it up inside while thinking only of my happiness... It's no wonder she reacted like that. It's my fault, not hers.
Haruka: ...
Natsumi: Anyway, because of that, I don't...actually know how to cheer her up. But I always loved her smile the most when I gifted her seashells I picked along the beach, so...
Natsumi: I think she likes the spiky ones most, so I'm going to find the spikiest seashell I've ever- ahh!
Haruka: ...Hey, Shimizu! Watch where you're going!
*thud*
Natsumi: I-I'm okay! The snow cushioned my fall! I know snow falls in winter, but I never imagined there'd be so much of it this near the coast. Ehehe...
Tumblr media
Haruka: Okay my ass, you were one step away from falling into the freezing water!
(Haruka: And before I came, Ikeda always stayed by her side and watched out for her. But because of me...)
???: *rumble* GRRRR....
Haruka: !? D-did you hear that!?
Natsumi: I-I did, but...there's no one there...
Haruka: Hey, we'd better move it with finding those shells! Our partners aren't with us, so we're dead meat if a hostile Digimon decides to show up now.
Natsumi: R-right!
(Natsumi: Everything's going to be alright, I'm sure of it. Even if it's not...I'll make it alright...! Wait for me, Fuyu-chan!)

[Image description taken from alt: a 6 frames comic about farcille at the beach.
the first panel is of falin, sopping wet, full of sunburns with an algae in her hair. a spiky text bubble reads "FALIN?!!!" she looks confused.
marcille runs to her, worried sick, while falin searches for something in her pocket, she's not really paying attention to what she's saying. the text bubbles read : "oh my god falin ARE YOU OKAY?!" "what" "your skin.. does it hurt?" "did... did something ATTACK you??" (what's that in your hair..?) "marcille.. i'm fine" "you're gonna want to see these though"
it cuts to a close-up panel of falin smiling, looking proud.
in the next panel she's showing off the seashells she picked up, yellow text reads "TA-DAAH!" there are sparkles around them.
this panel has no color and is hastily drawn. it's of marcille with a blank expression on her face, staring at the seashells. she doesn't get it.
the last drawing is of both of them sat down next to each other, falin is still showing the seashells to marcille
the text bubbles read : "aren't they pretty?" "oh, this one's for you! it has the same color as your hair. see!" she's pointing to a yellow colored seashell while marcille smiles at her, but she still has that same worried expression on her face. marcille says : "ah.. thank you falin <3" all the while, she has one hand on falin's leg and the other in her bag. the text next to her, in lower opacity, reads "where the hell is that damn sunscreen". End description.]

Alright! Here's what we've got!! (Excluding the garbagiest garbage)
So many plastic buttons, so so grimy. Washed my hands several times and will wash all the buttons later.
Tumblr media
I'm going to donate most of them (my button stash is big enough already and I don't often use plastic ones) but I will go through and choose some to keep. I'm really loving all the different green shades.
They're of wildly varying ages and qualities, and of course some of the older ones were disintegrating in various disgustingly textured ways and had to be thrown out.
Tumblr media
A few metal buttons. There were more that were also gross and corroding, some in a green way and some in a rusty way, and these were the only not completely awful ones.
Tumblr media
Some mother of pearl buttons, and a lot of these seem to be... also degrading in a gross textured way?? I have never seen mother of pearl do that. Maybe they were stored in an acidic environment, or maybe some gunk from something else got on them? I'll try washing them.
Tumblr media
Some leather and wooden buttons, and a few non-disgusting fabric covered ones. (There were many more fabric covered ones that were rusty)
The little slanty ended ones are cute, but their shanks are very thin wire that's also very rusty, so I think they'll have to go. But I wanted them to be in the photo anyways.
The two biggest wooden buttons have the statue of liberty embossed on them.
Tumblr media
I wonder what they were originally attached to.
Tumblr media
8 glass beads, a glass stud with a yucky corroded green back, and a mother of pearl stud with a yucky rusted back. A tiny spiky buckle, 2 broken jewellery bits, a dangly wooden doodad, and 4 buttons that I think came off button boots. I'm quite sure the black one did, at least.
Tumblr media
Glass buttons! Yay!! Much better luck here that with the MOP ones, which is the reverse of how it usually is. Those 3 little blue ones are doing one of my least favourite button things though, which is when one has a perfectly pristine metal back and another has a very oxidized one. Perhaps I can polish it.
Also look!
Tumblr media
look at the little bird!
Tumblr media
Instructions on setting invisible zippers from 1969, a crochet, knitting, tatting, and embroidery book from 1952, and a packet of mostly ugly Artex embroidery transfers.
Here, I reversed this one so you can read it.
Tumblr media
I don't know what decade these are from, but I feel like maybe 60's or 70's? What the heck is ratfink??
Tumblr media
2.8 metres of tatted lace, 2 small plain white cotton scraps, a crudely made hat shaped needle book, and Ethel why would you do that? Why would you print your name in a random spot on two handkerchiefs? If you're not going to embroider a monogram you could have at least centred it nicely on a corner, or put it along an edge.
Tumblr media
Most of the thread was really awful quality, but there were a few nice ones, and some wooden spools! The two bottom spools were also fuzzy garbage, but I just wanted to include them in the photo because the ends look like radiation symbols.
It's a bit hard to read, but I think this spool says "mom hates her little children" :(
Tumblr media
Several of the other spools had scribbling on them.
Tumblr media
Seam binding, hand sewing needles, a bodkin, machine needles, and a plastic fork thingy. When I saw the handle I thought it was an awl, but it has two points so I'm stumped. Is it for eating fancy little snacks?
Tumblr media
Safety pins and danger pins (and rusty extra danger pins which I put in my sharps disposal) as well as a few tacks and small nails. A broken floral brooch made of tiny seashells glued together, 4 links of a chain, 8 tiny metal balls and one big one, and a marble.
And of course a square glass container with a lid! I don't know what things I will put in it yet, but I will certainly put some things.
Tumblr media
Belt tool connector thingy, 4 plastic buckles and one metal one. (slightly rusty but also slightly sparkly. Cheaply made fake cut steel.) An embroidered patch, a seashell, and more pins and needles in prescription bottles for two different people, neither of whom is Ethel.
Tumblr media
Three very dull pairs of scissors, a cork, 3 bobbins which I think will fit my Singer but I haven't tried yet, a tracing wheel, two machine parts, a screwdriver, a board game piece, chalk, and a couple of mystery metal bits.
Tumblr media
A wristwatch box with a single skein of embroidery floss.
Parent pencils named "EAGLE Verithin Dark Green" and "Says "Think Fire Prevention"", with their darling baby pencil, "Mini Frie".
Tumblr media
4 snaps, more than 4 hook and eye closures, and a zipper so old the packaging calls it a Slide Fastener. And it was made in Canada!
Tumblr media
An intriguing torn corner with a lot of "omit" and "deduct" on it, 4 puzzle pieces, a luggage tag, a sports ticket from 1989, a doctor's appointment, and a child with a bad haircut.
Tumblr media
Make your own covered belt, buckle, and buttons! I'll save these until I find a good home for them.
Tumblr media
I had thought this bag was old tissue paper, but no! It's little square scarves!
The fleshy mesh one in the upper right looks newer & coarser quality and is cut in half diagonally, but I'm pretty sure the three on the left are silk, and the red one appears to be one of those 50's nylon ones I've heard The Closet Historian talk about a few times.
Tumblr media
I will also set these aside and someday find them a good home. They're too small for me to wear as cravats, but there must be some vintage ladies out there who want them.
Tumblr media
Ok that's everything! Thank you for coming on this adventure with me!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just grabbed this box of stuff from the free junk pile at an estate sale and I'm about to have the BEST afternoon! I will update you on the treasures later!
