🦄 Rocking Horse Makeover 🦄 This holiday I got the opportunity to repaint this vintage rocking horse from the 1980s. For the past 30 years or so it has been a curious garden ornament, the base having been broken for years. I decided to first paint a few colour options in watercolour before touching the pony itself (swipe if you want to see those!). ☆ 🐎 Because of this pony's outdoor lifestyle, it had many cracks in its fiberglass body, as well as holes where the handles used to be. Before I could repaint I'd need to repair. 🦄 Firstly I had to sand off all the old paint and give the chassis a scrub with sugar soap. With the sanding done, I then began repairing the cracks with epoxy putty, and later with roofing fabric and waterproof coating. The epoxy putty was sanded down as much as possible and covered with more roofing fabric (which takes ages to dry apparently). 🦄 The second stage was to paint an undercoat of waterproofing medium to fill any remaining cracks and give the pony a uniform colour. This I painted over with white epoxy roof paint. 🦄 The final stage was the fun part- painting in the details. First I mixed pink craft paint with the white roofing paint to create a soft pink base. Next was adding the pink stripes. Gold fabric paint and copper craft paint was combined to create a warm gold colour for the saddle, mane and tail. Finally, the finishing touches were added using some Pentel paint markers. 🐱 Swipe to see the before photos both from the 80s and the pre-makeover pony. Okay so, looking up “chien-tang“ and “chu yuan,“ I think what the dragon is saying is Drago’s dishonoring the Boat Festival by abusing his dragon power to win it. There doesn’t seem to be any more in-depth stuff there.

Very intriguing that they put some legit longs (Chinese dragons) in here. Very cool.
