She is a Canadian author and retired actress. For Now.  She gained popularity for her first leading role as Kate Austen in the ABC drama series Lost (2004–2010), which garnered her six nominations for the Saturn Award for Best Actress on Television and a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series.

Lilly has also appeared in the war film The Hurt Locker (2008) and sports drama Real Steel (2011), and has starred as Tauriel in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit film series, appearing in The Desolation of Smaug (2013) and The Battle of the Five Armies (2014). She has portrayed Hope van Dyne / Wasp in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), beginning with Ant-Man (2015). Lilly is also the author of a children's book series The Squickerwonkers.

I don’t think I can state enough how much @evangelinelillyofficial means to me. As someone who’s work I’ve admired for quite some time to be so kind to me and my work is an unbelievable feeling. And not just showing kindness; but welcoming me with open arms and trying to encourage me and support me and my work along the way has been absolutely incredible. Some of you may recall about a week ago, I shared my autographs from FAN EXPO Boston (or Boston Comic Con), & one of them was from Evangeline Lilly. I may have forgotten to mention that Ms. Lilly loved my fan art of her book The Squickerwonkers so much that she asked me to take a picture of her with the drawing.

Well, it seems the official Squickerwonkers page on Twitter has uploaded my artwork, & it made me so happy to see that they still love it! I thought I’d share their tweet sharing my artwork, & I want to thank them for sharing my art with the world!

Evangeline Lilly is a pretty good actress, so when I heard she wrote a children’s book I was curious. It’s called The Squickerwonkers.

It took me a while to find it, which is not a good sign. It also has a foreword, which is very strange since it’s a children’s book. The foreword is written by Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens, the trio responsible for bringing the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies to life (Evangeline Lilly was in the Hobbit movies).

The fact that a children’s book needed a forward by three people was also bizarre, so it was with some trepidation that I read Lilly’s book. The thing is, the book itself is pretty good. Lilly is a good writer and this whole thing is written as poetry, which she manages to pull off. As a book, I cannot complain.

However, as a children’s book, this story is messed up. It’s dark and frightening and kind of malicious. In the back of the book, another author is quoted as saying, “In recent years children’s publishing has become increasingly cautious, fearful of upsetting those who think children should be kept safe in their original packaging. Not so the kids themselves...they will LOVE to be unsettled by this book...dark and delicious.”

I’m not saying that children’s literature shouldn’t be more realistic about the negative aspects of life, but at the same time I cannot agree that they should be exposed to horror at such a young age. They’ll get enough of that from real life--no need to force it upon them.

Ultimately, I have mixed emotions. I get it. I understand it. I even like it. But I would never let my kids read this book.

I’m not buying this one, but I’m definitely glad I read it!

Evangeline auditioned for the role of Kate Austen in Lost along with 75 other women. Even with no previous acting experience aside from extra work, she was offered the role almost instantly.

However, it was difficult for her to obtain a work visa for the United States. It took 20 attempts before she was finally given the visa she needed, at which point she immediately flew to Hawaii and arrived on the set of Lost one day late.

As of 2017, her net worth is $15 million dollars.

Evangeline Lilly’s nickname on the set of Lost was “Monkey” because she climbed trees on set. If she’s shown climbing a tree in the show – it’s real.

In 2006, an electrical issue caused her house in Kailua, Hawaii, to burn down which destroyed the house and all of her possessions. Lilly had previously taken the original letter Sawyer had in Lost, as a souvenir – this letter was also lost in the fire.

Lilly met her long-term boyfriend, Normal Kalo, while working on Lost. Normal was a production assistant for the film crew.

Together, they have two children. They had their first child in 2011, Kahekili, which is Hawaiian for “the thunder” because he was born during a thunderstorm. They also have a daughter who was born in 2015.

Both children were delivered at home – the first one was even delivered outside!

Evangeline Lilly has been a fan of Tolkien’s books since the age of 13, so she jumped at the opportunity to play Tauriel in The Hobbit. In order to prepare for the role, she underwent training for swordplay, archery, and learned some of the Elvish language.

She is a published author for the children’s book series, The Squickerwonkers. She said that the idea for the books first came to her when she was 14 years old.

Lilly debuted her first book for the series in 2013.

She has said that she considers acting to be a day job, while motherhood and writing are her top priorities.

Evangeline has contributed to many humanitarian efforts, auctioning off lunches with herself, and running an organization that helps widows and children in Rwanda, among many other efforts.

In her spare time, she likes to draw and paint.

Evangeline Lilly is a notoriously bad driver. She has been in at least 8 car accidents, and none of them were with another car.
