My @merrywitchermas gift for @squiddviscous! I hope you like it! I'm so sorry it's not more game-focused, but I really wanted to tell a hurt/comfort story about what Triss lost at Sodden, and how Philippa heals her. I used Netflix canon for a bit because I liked this healing starting in secret.

summary: Triss Merigold survived the Battle of Sodden Hill-- and wished she hadn't. That is, until she experienced a mysterious mage healing her in her dreams, whose teasing, tempting touches begin to bring her back to life.

Philippa Eilhart has taken a particular interest in a little witch's recovery, but what begins as a purely mercenary effort to gain an ally grows... complicated.

She couldn’t feel life anymore. Not in the mages surrounding her. Not even in the plants and grasses and trees, the connection to which she had always felt, even from an infant. That pulsing green throbbing push of pure life reaching and reaching. For sun, for water, for nitrogen, for connection.

One endless, ceaseless day, she felt her chin be tipped, and a draught poured down her throat, and she moved back into grateful unconsciousness.

Until she dreamt again.

2. What's your total A03 word count?

3. What fandoms do you write for?

The Witcher (books/games), Cyberpunk 2077, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Star Wars (though specifically Andor), House of the Dragon and one brief sojourn into Ace Attorney

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

That would be The Queen Who Never Was (but once), The Sins of Fathers, The Swallow of Novigrad, Love is the Value of Life and Lord Edgeworth and the Inn by the River

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Always. Because i want more lol. But also because I want to scream with people and love seeing what particular things people liked or picked up on.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I think that would be The Traitor's Daughter, my Andor fic. Because I was thinking of giving the characters catharsis and a happy'ish ending and decided naaaah

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I think its toss-up between Where Paths Lead and Let me be your armor because they both literally end with people in love riding off into the sunshine.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not really. Got one person complaining recently that no HOTD AU should be allowed a happy-ish ending but you know...

9. Do you write smut?

No but I'm inching closer.

10. Do you write crossovers?

No

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

So last year some loon stole The Swallow of Novigrad and tried to sell it as an self-published ebook on amazon, which was wild. The thing that amused me the most I remeber was that they chose a picture of Cavill!Geralt for the cover, which is funny since a) I don't write in the show canon and b) Geralt doesn't even appear in the fic.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! @herbalinz-of-yesteryear does occassionally work on a chinese translation of Swallow (when not writing her own excellent work) and also there's a Russian translation of the same work.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not since the Star Trek fic I wrote in High School

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

I don't know, I don't really ship as such even do I have alot of ships (Ciri/Morvran, Yennefer/Geralt, V/Judy, Keira/Lambert, Theresa/Henry/Hans) that I enjoy.

15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I'm increasingly sceptical I will ever write the final part of my Ciri triology but we'll see

16. What are your writing strengths?

Vizualisation, dialogue, introspection

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Currently finishing things lol. But also connecting dialogue with action.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Naah. I think most con-lang is overrated. There are some cases its warranted but usually unneccesary

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Star Trek

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

My Ciri duology is my pride and joy but if you want me to give you a totally honest opinion its The Queen who never was (but once) because I walways wanted to be able to out together that kind of epic short story, if thats the word.

Six Sentence Sunday

I’ve been attacked oh so cruelly by @squiddviscous (kidding I love being tagged in things). For November I’m working on original work but I do have some fic progress to boast as well!

From the net part of my Amelioration series (Jaskel and Lamden): He was burning. From his lashes to his toes Jaskier was burning and he could not stop it no matter how he tried. He could not breathe, he could not fight, and he could not scream. That was the worst part, he thought with sudden and painful clarity. He could not scream. Only beg.

“I had urgent business to-” she started but Triss interrupted her.

“Alone, barefoot and in your night-robe? Please Ciri. As your political adviser I’d be embarrassed if you told such obvious lies.” She shook her head. “You were visiting general Voorhis chambers weren’t you?”

Some of the earlier anger flared back. “Were you spying on me?” she demanded.

Triss continued unfazed. “Of course not, don’t be absurd!” She waited a second before adding as an afterthought, “Fringilla was spying on you.”

“We are taking the boat?” he asked.

“We are taking the boat,” she reiterated, “don’t worry, I payed for it.”

“I’m sure her grace could have let us borrow one.”

“One of her pleasure barges you mean? With rowers, musicians and jugglers? Perish the thought. To high profile and not as fun.” Ciri was rummaging around, doing something with ropes that he didn’t quite understand. ”This is a perfectly suitable craft and also-” suddenly it seemed to dawn on her that Morvran was still on the pier. She stood and balanced her fists on her waist. “Morvran are you afraid of getting into a boat with me?”

He immediately moved to embark, handing over the saddlebag which contained their provisions“Just thinking we should have brought someone who knows how to sail.”

“I know how to sail!” Ciri protested, “now come down and help me with these cables.” She pointed to one of the benches along the side. “You can stow the bag beneath. Once you've done that untie the moorings and help me with the sail.”

“The what?” he asked and looked around.

“The moori-the ropes tying the boat to the pier.”

“Oh,” he turned around and started untying the aft rope, “then why didn’t you say so.”

“I did say so.” Ciri shook her head as she untied for forward line, “keep a hand on the tiller while I raise the sail.”

“The what?”

“That thing!” Ciri pointed to the wooden pole hanging off the aft, “it steers the boat, hold it steady and we will head out straight into the lake.”

WIP Wursday

I was tagged by @poetikat cause very day is sharing day now and I love it!

The problem with queen Alicent, Rhaenys has long surmised, was that Rhaenyra never got a chance to take her flying.

There are no rules, no law, duty or tradition in the sky. The rulers of old Valyria, their ancestors, had understood this. This is why their house, still a century after the conquest, keep to the old ways, celebrate matrimony by sharing blood, marry their sisters and brothers to the disgust of the septons.

For even the great Starry Sept of Oldtown does not reach as high into the heavens as a dragon.

Targaryens are beyond such things. And had poor Alicent gone flying but the once she might have understood that.

So instead she claws at the walls of the prison she and her duties has built for her while ignoring that the roof is long gone.

It would be sad, where she and Rhaenyra just women.

But they are not and so the realm might yet burn because of it.

Maybe the gods will be good. Maybe her cousin will draw breath for a while longer. Maybe the young women will reconcile.

Its a beautiful dream. But it is not to be true, for Rhaenys never inherited that particular gift of her lineage. So when her door is locked shut from the outside she feels sadness and relief in equal measure.

She was not wrong.

You know, for a while there it was one of my Cyberpunk short fics but I can finally say that my love The Swallow of Novigrad has finally surpassed them. (87164 k, no real pairings apart from some Ciri/Morvran flirting and Keira/Lambert. Recommended if you want a story about Ciri learning the costs and possibilities of being empress)

Hidden Gems

(Honestly I think my Kingdom Come: Deliverance fics qualify as these but then again they're written for a very small fandom...)

You cannot go home again (again) (1445K, V/Judy), is probably the most underrated of my two Cyberpunk 2077 fics and while it doesn't quite hold up in the end I still like its look at the corpo mentality.

Were Paths lead (9057 K, Eskel/Natanis the succubus, Geralt/Yennefer) is probably some of my best short fiction writing. Read if you like witcher bros being brothers, Toussaint landscapes, food porn and abit of romance.

So of course I’ve only actually published 8 but here goes, in chronological order (note: i don’t include the quotes in the empress Ciri fics:

1. The empress was coming to Toussaint.

2. With a dull thud Theresa lets the last sack of flour down onto the cart. 

(Let me be your armor, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Theresa/Henry, Henry/Hans)

3. On moonlit nights much like this one he likes to take a walk down the poplar lined road from his cottage to the old graveyards by the abandoned estate.

4. It was his second time wintering in Toussaint and this time he made it well in time before the snows. 

(Where Paths lead, Witcher, Eskel/Natanis Succubus with slice of Genralt)

5. The von Everec estate had been described by the Vivaldi bank agent as "somewhat rustic but charming, if a little bit run-down, with a beautiful view of Millers lake". It was in fact, thought Morvran as he gently stepped around an overgrown flowerbed, better described as one step above a ruin, a ruin that may or may not have been on fire at some point or the other and certainly not the estate worthy of a noble lord or lady.

6. It looms over the city, it's obsidian and black edifice jutting up from the city center like a colossus of old, massive in height and girth, making every other building in the city feel small, drab, unplanned by comparison. It's chrysanthemum logo shines through the smog like a second moon, it's stark simplicity of design and diamond-on-black almost mocking the garish holo's that emanate up from the city streets.

7. At Arasaka Counter-intell they teach you that every life has value, and that that value can be as meticulously calculated as the roll-out of a new phone model.

8. It is the cold that’s getting to him. The cold that the wind has blown straight through his clothes, his thick jupon and scarf, the wind that makes their (his) threadbare banners beat smartly against their lances. The cold that is sticking to the ground and covering the trees with frost while threatening to make his ears fall off below his warm hat. The ice-cold water that splatters upon his boots and hose as the horse breaks through the thin sheet of ice that covers the many pools of water on the road, oozing through his clothes.

So, patterns? Obviously scene setting, either by description or action seem to be important. For favourites I love the ope igns of Where paths lead and Love is the Value of Life
